Compared to other *nixes

Compared to other *nixes, does OSX spend a LOT of time with "super" processes?
Roger

I don't think there's a simple answer to that question, Roger.
A lot of it is going to depend on your specific environment - not just the hardware configuration (disks, RAM, etc. which will affect memory-based tasks, paging, etc.) but also the software you're running.
On the software side you'd need to consider how the applications are written to be able to compare them. It's quite likely that a generic POSIX souce file compiled and run would work well, but probably not optimally compared to other OSes. Differences in things like threading models, memory handling, etc. will all affect the OS overhead element (which is what I assume you're leading towards).
So the answer to your question is a definite 'maybe'.

    To reproduce the problem:
    - open any file from the applications-browser
    - click into the editor window to make it active
    - select the "Source"-View
    - right-click into the editor window and choose "Compare With / Other Revision"
    => an Error-Message "0" will be shown, Button Details reveals the stacktrace above
    The problem does NOT apear if you
    - right click in the Application-Browser
    - right click in the "Design" or "History" view of the selected file.
    The problem apears with any type of file (tested: jsp, xml. java)

  • Content server pros and cons when compared to others

    Hi DMS Gurus,
    we are in a process of deciding which storage area to go for, and the client is kneen on going for a common existing  server, as he is not kneen on spending on DMS content server.
    my question are,
    can we transform any existing file server or system (which is already in use) in to a content server just by installing windows 2003, and content server CDs. if so please tell me how to go about this.
    is content server only the preferred storage to process the original files in through WEB DMS, or will Starage in SAP Database,Vault or Archive also will give this funtionality.
    let me please know what are the major Pros (benifits) and cons (demerits)  which Content server storage gives when compared to other storage.
    Points for sure,
    thanks in advance
    Shanti

    Shanti,
    ArchiveLink:
    You use SAP ArchiveLink as a communication interface between the document management system and the archiving systems. You can display the archived data using the SAP ArchiveLink viewer. Many times there are documents generated which needs to be tied to a DIR and hence you use the archive link to tie these to a transaction and the originals can be stored in the content server.
    KPRO
    KPRO apart from attaching the originals, it provides a wide range of other functionalities like content service,
    where after every check in& checkout of DIR you can mantain the working copies in the content server.
    Knowledge Provider is a component of SAP Web Application Server and provides the general infrastructure for storing and administrating documents.The Content Server and the Cache Server are server components that interact with the Knowledge Provider
    Knowledge Provider provides the following services:
    -Services for KPro client applications
    -Document Management Framework (DMF)
    -Document Management Service (DMS)
    -Content Management Service (CMS)
    -Integration of content servers and cache servers
    -Content Server
    -Allows you to integrate SAP Content Sever or
    external content servers
    -Cache Server
    -Allows you to store documents close to the client (caching)
    -Content Modeling Tool
    -Document Modeling Workbench (DMWB)
    Hope this helps

  • How does x120 compares to other netbook

    Hi,
    When you consider that you can get an asus eeepc for 220-250$, I wonder if the x120 high price tag is justifiable. I own a x220 and love it, but really it wasn't that expensive if you compare to similar options (fast cpu, lightweight, long battery life...).
    When it comes to a netbook, the cpu are pretty much the same, along with size and weight. I wonder what the x120 would give me that an eeepc doesn't, given it's about twice the price!
    Thanks,
    Dave

    I've had my lenovo for about a year now, I bought it in Feb.. 2011, and it's freaking awesome. Before I had decided on my X120E (with the E-350) I had actually ordered an HP DMZ1, and HP even shipped it to me because I had cancelled that order right when I learned about the X120E. I had a chance to compare the quality of both PCs and it's a world of difference. The case, the screen hinges, and the plastics on the lenovo are basically better quality. The build quality itself is pretty good too; I had a Sager before my Lenovo and that thing creaked (a lot), and it was way more expensive.
    Compared to other netbooks, it's fast, really fast. Not only does the GPU/CPU integration work, but it works well. The performance beats other comparable PCs, in both price and specs, and that's something's that's weird coming from a netbook that only costs $450.00. At the time I got it there were other PCs out there for almost the same price, and some were even actual laptops, but for the price I think I got a bargain.
    Another thing I failed to mention is the warranty. The HP, for the same price, only had a 30 day warranty and that was one of the big factors that switched me over to the X120E. The one year warranty cannot be beat. I just sent in my netbook because the right speaker went out, and the turnaround was quick, since they didn't have to wait on any parts. They even did a good job at the repair depot, a fact which I found surprising due to all the negative feedback I've heard from it. All in all, even with the one issue I had with my speaker, I would definitely buy my X120E again if I had to.

  • What is the diff between sd userexits compared to other userexits

    hi all,
    can anybody tell the diff between  sd userexits compared to other userexits
    thanks and regards
    sareen

    Hi
    In some of the SD Transactions, Some user exits were default provided in the STd program of that transaction for example Sales order program SAPMV45A has provided with MV45AFZZ and in that you can write most of your user exits
    similarly the Delivery Std Program SAPMV50A also has this type of facility
    apartfrom these exits these transactions also have other exits which we create/using CMOD/SMOD tcodes
    User exits (Function module exits) are exits developed by SAP. The exit is implementerd as a call to a function module. The code for the function module is written by the developer. You are not writing the code directly in the function module, but in the include that is implemented in the function module.
    The naming standard of function modules for functionmodule exits is:
    EXIT_<program name><3 digit suffix>
    The call to a functionmodule exit is implemented as:
    CALL CUSTOMER.-FUNCTION <3 digit suffix>
    To find a Exit.
    Goto Transaction -- Find The Package
    SMOD >f4>Use the Package here to Find the Exits In the Package.
    Else if you Want to search by Application Area wise ,
    There is one more tab to find the Exits in the Respective Application Area.
    Implementing the Exit-- CMOD Create ProjectsAssgn your Component .
    Now Run ur Transaction to Check if it Triggers.
    Thats it..
    Suppose you need to find out all the user exits related to a tcode.
    1. Execute the Tcode.
    2. Open the SAP program.
    3. Get the Development Class.
    4. Execute Tcode SE84.
    5. Open the Node 'Envir. -> Exit Techniques -> 'Customer Exits -> Enhancements'
    6. Enter the Development class and execute.
    Check out this thread..
    The specified item was not found.
    1. Type the transaction : system->status-> <PROG. NAME>
    2 open SE37 , type EXIT<PROG NAME> and press F4 to get the list of function exits available.
    3. Open CMOD utilities->SAP enhancements
    EDIT->All selections
    4.type the function module name obtained in step 2, in fields 'component name' in 'additional selections' block. and execute.
    5. The displayed list contains the enhancements names for the transaction You were looking for.
    6. Create a project in CMOD and the code in default include->activate.

    Beats Solo HD On-Ear Headphone red has a 5 stars review compared to others,are they the same products ,same quality of sound?

    First, there are plenty "Fake" Beats headphones and earphones, they are almost looked the same with the original, but the sound qualities are basically poor.
    Beats is good for people who likes strong bass.
    Recently, I am in love with the new Apple earpods, they perform good, and particular with an app. called "Dirac" lite.
    This is a great review for most of the top quality headphones and earphones

    I got my iPhone 4S and I think I have a problem with it. Sound when locking and unlocking is quiet compared with other iPhone 4S. I compared it with others and really is a little quiet. Other people have confirmed it too. Other sounds may be better. No problem tones, watching videos. This problem or is it something normal?

    I have this problem too, but it is intermittent. Sometimes the lock/unlock volume will drop to barely-audible, even though in settings the volume slider hasn't changed. If I then move the volume slider, it fixes the problem and the lock sounds jump back to normal, but then later on the problem will happen again.

  • Yellow tinted iphone 3G screen compared to other 3G iphones?

    Hi guys,
    I juts purchased a new iPhone 3G, however when I compare this to either my friends iPhone 3G or any of the demo handsets instore, mine has a noticably yellowish tinge to it.
    I am aware that Apple changed the white point between 1st gen iPhones and the 3G version, yet I am comparing this to other 3G handsets and it seems noticably duller.
    I have exchanged the device 3 times, amde sure each was running 2.2, and each handset has been the same-does anyone know why this might be?

    Actually I don't think that's amazing at all. I think its the norm.
    When you stop to consider that three High Volume retailers are offering $99 refurbs its pretty clear to me there are a LOT of refurbs, way more than you ever here about on this forum, and Apple is standing squarely behind this product by replacing them for the slightest problem.
    Many posters here insist that if the forum isn't overflowing with complaints there is not a problem. Yet any visit to the Apple store will show genius after genius dealing with iphone after iphone ALL DAY long. The vast majority of people, when faced with a gadget problem do not get on the web and complain.
    They either RTFM, call apple, or go visit the store.

  • Limitations of Discoverer compared to Other Reporting tools

    Hi,
    I need to evaluate the Pro's and Con's of Oracle Discoverer.Can u please tell me the advantages and disadvantages when compared to Business Objects, Cognos or any other Reporting Tool.
    Thanks, Prasad

    Hey Prasad.
    Now there's an open question (ie: which is better, Ford or Chevy).
    I'm sure this has been address on this forum before so you might want to perform a search for this subject.
    However, dipping my toes in the pool ...
    1. Oracle is pushing Discoverer as an important tool in their repertoire. Future versions will now interface with XML Publisher (now BI Publisher), etc. so it's tightly inter-woven into Oracle. BO, Cognos, etc. are 3rd. party tools and therefore not tightly woven.
    2. If running Oracle Apps, then you can use the BIS views for pre-written views, Disco workbooks, etc. It's simply not practical to try to use BIS without Discoverer.
    3. Newest version of Disco (10g r2) now supports OLAP. Badly ... but it's a start.
    4. Oracle is really pushing the idea of everything being in the database and therefore they are pushing OLAP, DW stuff in the database along with your relational stuff. What this means in tools is that they're strongly pushing Disco with OLAP instead of a customer having to buy hardware, software (ie: Hyperion, Cognos, etc.), people (dbas to manage, software types to program), etc. and exporting your data from the Oracle database to a 3rd. party database to then report on. Again, Disco with OLAP (and someday if actual possible / practical) mixing your OLTP stuff with OLAP stuff.
    5. It's been awhile since I used BO and Cognos so not sure if their newest versions have the same idea of 3 versions (well 2 someday) where you create the report with Plus (or Desktop) and allow users to lightly manipulate (but not create) existing reports using a simple HTML browser (Viewer).
    6. Discoverer is a neat name as it sounds like you're stuttering ...
    I'm sure they'll be lots of other reasons stated by others on this board, but if I was betting the farm on where to go, I would go with Discoverer if I had an Oracle installation. It'll cost you - and Oracle is definitely in it for making a buck or two - but if you're in for a penny with Oracle databases, etc., then you're in for a pound and using 3rd party tools that may do the same, less or even a bit more, never appeals to me as Oracle will either catch up and surpass them ... or let's be realistic ... buy them out! Like Microsoft, they've been doing that lately with a spare few billion dollars falling out of Larry's pockets.

  • Simple compared to other topics on here

    This is very simple or so it would seem compared to what i've read on this forum so far.
    If any of you would be kind enough to tell me why i can not read an Object from a file...
    I'm storing a single object made from a class to a file...
    This single object has another object from a different class in it...
    I get a NullPointerException and the file returns null.
    I'm posting in Serialization because Object I/O does implement...if this is the wrong forum let me know..
    If you need more information i can try to give it... or if there is no helping me i'll also understand that...
    Thanks

    OK, it's up to you. You're description is rather general, so the best you can expect are generalizations. Here are a few:
    if you catch the exception and then print it out, e.g.
    try {
      ... trouble code goes here
    catch (Exception e) {
      e.printStackTrace();
    }Java will literally tell you the line where things are going wrong. You can then stare at that line and think about what might be causing it.
    The other thing I do is to try to write the smallest program that still has the problem. That usually gets rid of all the distracting junk and let's you see what the problem is. In the worst case, you have something that's postable that other people can help you with!
    Good luck.

  • How Documaker Studio 12.0 - compares with other tools - like HP EXSTREAM

    Hello Experts !
    I am trying to find a comparison document between latest versions of Documaker Studio 12.0 & HP Exstream.
    I had worked on Documaker 10.2 for several past years, but has been working on HP exstream in Recent years.
    I am trying to understand what has changed in Documaker 10.2 to Documaker Studio, so that I can work on Studio - mostly for batch Application. I have gone through most of the Docs for Documaker Studio, & understand the BASE product which works on the back ground RUN TIME process has not changed a lot for batch processing at least. I understand that GUI is totally different, with various additional features for versioning, check out, checkin etc.
    Also I am trying to compare DOcumaker Studio with HP Exstream, with which I have now about 4 years recent experience..
    If any of you have any comparison docs, request to forward to me. ( [email protected]). Also I encourage if any of you Documaker studio experts can talk to me - I can explain the features of Exstream & we can have an interesting discussion - my number is (302) 312 3120..
    Thanks in advance !

    Thank you Gaetan, I appreciate your response. One last question.
    Pretend I have a ParagraphList with 4 paragraph choices. In two of those paragraph choices, I need each of them to have another 2 paragraph choices EACH.
    So I know that you can't insert more MLT fields in paragraphs. Because of this, I don't think I'll be able to use PSL's and PAR's if I have multi level selections. Can anyone verify that this is correct? or am I missing something?
    Since I will need a table selection for multiple sections, and those sections needs to be able to call additional tables for for more sections, I'm thinking TERSUB is probably my best bet. This could go on for three or so levels.
    Any inputs? thanks.

  • How does Solaris compare to other OS's?

    Hello,
    I am looking to install another operating system on my computer in addition to windows. I have heard many good things about other O/S's and I am curious as to how Solaris compares to the various UNIX and Linux distributions and what kinds of programs are available for Solaris. Thank you.

    Just get "http://www.vmware.com/products/free_virtualization.html" (VMWare server) from their 'free virtualisation' section. After you installed it simply download and install Solaris in your new virtual machine. That way you get to keep Windows while still being able to try other OS's.

  • Writing generated XML into a file after comparing with other XML

    Hi,
      I have completed the comparison of two XML now I have a requirement to concat these two xml but also need to append the XML with a status node that if after comparing the two XML output is Y or N so if it is Y then a node with
    <status>Y</status>
    <from table>t1</from table>
    then completing those task I need to write it in a file
    declare
        p_emp_info   CLOB;
      l_emp_tab        xmlsequencetype := xmlsequencetype();
    BEGIN
      FOR i IN (SELECT id from emp WHERE emp_name='ABC') LOOP
        l_emp_tab.extend;
        SELECT XMLELEMENT("ABCD",
               XMLELEMENT("id",i.id))
          INTO l_emp_tab(i)
          FROM dual;
    END LOOP;
      SELECT XMLELEMENT("EMP"
                           ,XMLAGG(t.column_value))
        INTO p_emp_info
        FROM TABLE(l_emp_tab) t;
        --Dbms_Output.put_line(getclobval(1,2));
    EXCEPTION
        WHEN OTHERS THEN
       Dbms_Output.put_line(SQLCODE||sqlerrm);
    END ;
    I am using this query but it is giving me an error that expression is of wrong type  at this line {  INTO l_emp_tab(I) }
    I am unable to find out the error that what I am missing here !!

    You've changed the datatype of i from the example that Odie gave you in
    repeating nodes using FOR loop but when concating XML string then concating only last iteration of FOr loop ??
    In his example, i was a number.  In your above code, i is now the rowset for a cursor.
    You could rewrite your version to look like
    declare
      p_emp_info     XMLTYPE;
      l_emp_tab      xmlsequencetype := xmlsequencetype();
      l_pos          PLS_INTEGER;
      CURSOR c_info IS
        SELECT id
          from emp
         WHERE emp_name='ABC';
    BEGIN
      FOR r_info IN c_info LOOP
        l_emp_tab.extend;
        l_pos := c_info%ROWCOUNT;
        SELECT XMLELEMENT("ABCD",
               XMLELEMENT("id",r_info.id))
          INTO l_emp_tab(l_pos)
          FROM dual;
      END LOOP;
      SELECT XMLELEMENT("EMP"
                           ,XMLAGG(t.column_value))
        INTO p_emp_info
        FROM TABLE(l_emp_tab) t;
      --Dbms_Output.put_line(p_emp_info.getclobval());
    END ;
    You can't use the c_info%ROWCOUNT in the INTO clause, hence the need for l_pos.
    Or you could rewrite it to be
    declare
      p_emp_info   XMLTYPE;
      l_clob       CLOB;
    BEGIN
      SELECT XMLElement("EMP",
               XMLAgg(XMLElement("ABCD",
                        XMLElement("id",e.id))))
        INTO p_emp_info
        FROM emp e
       WHERE emp_name = 'ABC';
      SELECT XMLSERIALIZE(DOCUMENT p_emp_info AS CLOB)
        INTO l_clob
        FROM DUAL;
      Dbms_Output.put_line(l_clob);
    END;
    Both produce the same XML.

  • How to return the rank compared to other cells in Numbers

    Hi All,
    I am working on a spreadsheet that provides a seasonal average for a set of canvassers. I would then like to add a column which returns their ranking compared to the others. For instance:
    Canvasser
    6/1/2012
    6/2/2012
    6/3/2012
    6/4/2012

    Average
    Rank
    Joe

    175

    Ellen
    155
    185
    205
    300
    175
    =average(b3:b6)
    So, the rank column should return Joe as 2, Tom as 3, and Ellen as 1.
    Thanks for your help!
    Cheers,
    Koz

    Hi Kozguy,
    Let's start with the Averages column:
    Assuming the names are listed in column A, and that there are no hidden columns, Average is column G (ie. not column '7')
    The formula for Joe's average should be =AVERAGE(B2:F2).
    Filled down, that will also give the correct formulas for Tom's and Ellen's averages.
    Rank is calculated in column H, using the RANK function.
    Canvasser
