Comparing 2 documents

How can I compare 2 different versions of a document to see if there are any discrepancies.
In Word, it's part of the Track Changes function.  There is a Compare function.  How do
I do this in Pages?

No, no such function. You have to open both document side by side and compare manually (eyeally ).

  • How do I accept/reject green/red changes in a FM CMP Compare Document

I am working in FM 11 and needed to merge one file that two writers worked on at the same time with different sections of that file updated. I used the FM Utility > Compare Documents. The result CMP file showed me the inserted text in bright green and the deleted text in red. How do you accept/reject these changes? My workaround is to retype what I wanted to keep and select and delete text I wanted to delete.
I also tried to use SVN update to merge the files, but SVN didn't seem to be able to merge my two files (even though SVN merged a text file that user 1 UPDATED before they COMMITTED their change. The UPDATE merged the changes from writer 1 to the working copy from writer 2 without disturbing writer 2's changes. Then writer 2 was able to COMMIT. But this only worked on a TXT file and did not work with FM files. With FM, SVN just would not let writer 2 UPDATE if his copy was not in sync with the committed copy.
Ideally I would like to be able to merge changes on the same file from two writers who updated different sections. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    Another approach:
FrameMaker uses the conditions Inserted and Deleted to mark inserted and deleted text in the CMP file.
In the Search/Replace dialog select the Deleted condition for deleted text to search for.
    Leave the Replace box empty.
Then search for the Deleted condition and either replace (i.e. delete the text) or leave it as it is.
After this search/replace the remaining text with the Deleted condition is correct. Therefore delete this condition without deleting the text.
Then do the same with the Inserted condition for inserted text. Either delete this text or leave it as it is.
    Then delete this Inserted condition.

  • Compare Documents tool in Acrobat Pro 9

I'm assessing the Compare Documents tool in Acrobat Pro 9 for business use, and have some very specific questions about its functionality:
When I initially load a pair of PDFs to compare, occasionally Acrobat refuses to accept them as anything but "scanned documents" even though they are fully electronic-sourced PDFs created in, usually, Adobe illustrator.  What are the specific criteria that cause Acrobat Pro to force the "scanned documents" type?  Is it related to the presence of only "flattened"/"outlined" text instead of embedded fonts?  Lack of layers?  Some other graphical feature?  How do the comparison parameters/performance change when the loaded docs are designated as scanned rather than one of the other types?
Second, when I've done a Compare on two nearly identical documents and then call up the "old and difference images" display - is there any way at all to manipulate this display?  Some of my docs are large - potentially full press-sheet size of around 24" x 40", and when the differences between them are tiny (e.g., a change in only a few Braille dots over the entire graphic) the on-screen rendering of the "difference image" side of the display is relatively tiny and practically useless, although it contains exactly the information I need to see.  Can it be grabbed/stretched/magnified/saved/printed/analyzed some other way besides how it is?  It seems to disappear literally at the first mouse-motion or key-touch, which is incredibly frustrating.  Are there any changes or improvements in this feature in version 10.x over version 9.2.0 (which is the latest version my company has approved)?
Third, also at the post-compare stage, the feature tags a small printer info block in a corner of the document with "This image was replaced" even when I know the info block has not been changed.  Why could this happen?

Sounds like you want to do this on a server, but you should know that Adobe Acrobat cannot legally be used on a server.
For server-based PDF operations you can look at Adobe LiveCycle products or our Adobe PDFLibrary (available in both Java and C++)

  • Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro - Compare Documents

    Hello everyone,
I work for a construction company and have to sets of plans showing the building site in pdf.
Say they are revision A and revision B. I want to see the differences between the two drawings.
When i use the compare documents feature in acrobat 9.0 pro i get the new plan highlighted all in orange. When i click anywhere on the highlighted area i get two thumbnail pictures pop up - one is the old plan and the other is the "difference image".
This difference image is the one i want to view but can't seem to find a way to view it other than in this thumbnail pop up which is too small to really see.
Does anyone know how to get this?
Thank you so much for any help that you can offer.
    Regards
    Alex

But the image is there when I click, it's just very small.

  • I have Adobe Acrobat XI standard, but would like to trial the "compare documents" feature on Pro. I tried to download a trial version of Pro, but the installer indicated that "it detected a more fully featured version of the product" - presumably my stand

Okay - just realised that the last screen was just asking for a "title" for my question!
I have Adobe Acrobat XI standard, but would like to trial the "compare documents" feature on Pro. I tried to download a trial version of Pro, but the installer indicated that "it detected a more fully featured version of the product" - presumably my standard version? - and stopped installation. It is not clear to me what my options are for either upgrading to Pro, or selectively purchasing the "compare documents" plugin (if possible). I am using what is presumably an Enterprise version of acrobat (i.e. my employer owns it, not me) - so not sure what limitations that results in. I think this is a simple question, but would be grateful for advice.

    - You can't install Acrobat Pro alongside Acrobat Standard. You will need to remove Standard to be able to install Pro.
    - You (probably) can't upgrade your license if it's a part of an enterprise license. The entire license will need to be upgraded.
    - It's not possible to install just the "Compare Documents" function as a sort of add-on to Acrobat Standard.

  • Missing Compare Documents command in Acrobat x (10.1.2)

I watched a couple of Adobe TV flicks and supposedly I can compare two PDFs by clicking View > Compare Documents. That command is missing from my View menu. Can anyone tell me how to get it?
    Windows 7, Word 2010, Acrobat x (10.1.2)

    Good day,
Bill is correct.  The Compare Documents feature is only available in Acrobat Professional.  A number of the differences between Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Professional are outlined here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/matrix.html

  • How to suppress Compare documents dialog in Acrobat 8 using Visual Basic

    Hi,
We are having one utility developed in VB and we are using this to compare PDF documents with Adobe 8.0.
Before comparing the PDFs,first Compare Documents dialog is displayed and then we have to say OK. Then,
mismatches between the documents is shown. I want to suppress the Compare dialog box and is there anyway
in VB to suppress the compare dialog and to click on OK programmatically.
Thanks for your Help in advance.
    Raju

No there is nothing in the API that allows you to automate the pushing of buttons in the UI. You could try and use something like SendKeys to see if it worked but a word of warning. Doing so would be a real HACK and totally unsupported.

  • Acrobat X Pro Compare Documents To Sensitive

    Hi,
I am testing the "Compare Documents" functionality for my company in Acrobat Pro X. I must say I am pleased with the results for the most part but it seems like the compares are picking up to much information. For instance, If I insert a table row, I don’t want to see indicators that I have added 20+ new rows to a table (see Screenshot) when I only added 1 row (see grey indicators). I'm looking for a way to modify or tailor the sensitivity of the search function.
I posted this in the general section of Acrobat and am positing in here for posible scripting ideas. I did see Joel Geraci "Document Compare found too much – JavaScript to the Rescue" ariticle but the dowload link was broken and it would have to be updated to X. http://blogs.adobe.com/pdfdevjunkie/2009/05/document_compare_found_to_much.html
    Any scripting ideas?

Its a take it or leave it. You cannot adjust the comparison.

  • Acrobat X Pro - Compare Documents - Need Help

I'm running X Pro as a trial to determine if it is right to purchase for my company.  The main feature I am interested in is the "compare documents".  I am in the construction industry and part of my business is to provide estimates for projects.  We use acrobat 9 to view and comment on these documents and specialized software for the estimating portion.  Anyway, construction documents (aka blueprints) are commonly used in a pdf format.  As pricing develops, it is not uncommon for blueprints to change as the design of the building progresses.  Hence the allure of the compare document function.  Repeated attempts at comparing documents has proved unsuccesful.  I keep getting the message "unable to find matching document".  I have used both the "image" setting and the "scanned document" setting.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a PC.  I’m running windows 8  64 bit, but this problem occurred on Windows Vista as well.  There are no error codes it just won’t open.  You can use the program that morning to convert or combine files into a pdf. then 2 hours later you go to repeat the process and nothing.  The icon for it will appear on your desktop for 5 sec. and then disappear.   That’s it nothing else happens.  The same results will occur no matter how you try to open the program, restart your computer, or check for updates.
The only way to make the program work is to uninstall and reinstall it.  The first time this occurred the adobe rep told me to reinstall the whole suite.  It took 8 hours.  I have now found were I stored the suites setup files to reinstall the individual application verses the entire suite, but it is still annoying to have to re install it ever 30 days or so.  When I do re-install it all the serial numbers are in place and it says I have 36,XXX days left in my trail.
I don’t know what else you would want, but this is all I can give you because that’s what happens.  I’m currently taking online classes and we are all required to have this exact same suite and I know at least 2 other students who have mentioned this requiring problem.  One was so tired of it the purchased a different program to do it’s job.

  • Comparing Documents | Acrobat X | Adobe TV

This video details using the Compare Documents command in Acrobat X Pro. to identify what has changed between two versions of a PDF file.
    http://adobe.ly/A1ANdu

Thanks for that, but if we have a large document in which there are only a few differences, is there any mechanism to easily find each difference, or look at ONLY the differences? It offers a link on the first page to the "first" difference, but after that, it seems we have to eyeball the document or compare panel to find any other differences. Again, in a large document with few differences, that's painful (and risky, if spotting any changes are critical).
I've also looked in the help and now am looking to see if other resources discussing PDF compare might show it. Thanks for any thoughts.

  • Why is the Compare Document Feature is greyed out?

    Hello Everyone,
I am trying to compare two very similar large documents.  I want to use the compare document feature but it is greyed out.  What would cause this to happen?
    Thanks
    Derek L.

Here's what happened and worked for me.  My solution, observations and recomendations.  I have FCPX 10.0.9
After creating a 2 minute plus video feature , I discovered I could not export (share) the project.  The share option was greyed out.  Also greyed out was the File> 'Reimport from camera / Archive' option some have suggested as a solution.  There were no errors or any indication why this was happening, which is a huge problem with this editing software and I will address that below.
My problem was isolated to exporting (sharing) one timeline (project) so, reinstalling the entire program was not a logical option.  This is what I had to do...
I was faced with the prospect of chasing my tail for weeks on end hoping that I could find an answer buried deep within the FCPX manual or online but, what I did instead was, the grueling task of creating a new project and copying clip by clip from the non-share project and pasting each clip into the new project until I found which clip or clips were the problem.  Each time I pasted into the new project I would look to see if the 'share' menu was greyed out.
By doing so, I did indeed isolate the bad (?) clip in the new project and what I did in the 'non-share' project was simply reimport that one video clip.  Like magic the non-share project was able to export (share).  Share menu no longer greyed out.
This taught me a valuable lesson.  1.) FCPX does NOT always give you the ability to isolate a clip it, for whatever reason, does not like.  Meaning, you're up the creek without a paddle when export / share time comes.  Huge, huge problem that needs to be addressed.
2.) My humble recommendation is to ALWAYS check your 'Share' menu as often as you can tolerate. Specially those of you producing long projects. It's a pain but, if there is just one clip FCPX doesn't like you will NOT be able to export project.

  • Comparing documents with Track Changes on

    We're currently using Acrobat Pro 8.1.6 with Word 2003 (11.8307.8221) SP3.
We create PDFs with Track Changes on (showing).
We're testing and will soon be implementing Acrobat 9.1.3
    Here's the issue:
We have a large number (10,000+ documents) created in Word, with Track Changes showing.
We create a PDF using Acrobat 8.1.6.
As long as we continue using Acrobat 8.1.6 we can compare documents with Track Changes on.
However, now we're moving to Acrobat 9.1.3.
We can open these existing documents, and edit them (delete pages, add comments, etc.) but when we try to compare an 8.1.6 file that has Track Changes on, we're getting an error message:
"These dots conform to PDF/A standards and do not allow editing. Please modify PDF/A secumenttings to allow editing and try again."
In Word, our Adobe PDF settings DO NOT HAVE "Create PDF/A-1a:2005 compliant file" checked (for kicks we tried it with this option on and off...same results). We have also DISABLED "Enable Accessibility and Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF."
This is only an issue taking 8.1.6 files into 9.1.3. If we create a PDF in 9.1.3 with Track Changes on, we have no problems. It appears to be a disconnect with 8.1.6 and 9.1.3.
I've gone through the forums and the web, and cannot find this issue anywhere else.
I can also recreate the issue at will.
Anyone out there have any ideas? We can't recreate the old 8.1.6 PDFs in 9.1.3...too many files, too little time, too much trouble.
    Thank you!

Open the old pdf in Pro 3.? using file open.  Under "Advanced" select "Preflight", under "PDF/A compliance" select "Remove PDF/A information" and save the pdf.  We had to do this to both old and new pdf's before we could compare without the mentioned error.  It sucks though, having to convert the documents and save them before compare.  Hope this helps!

  • View/Compare Documents does not appear

How can I get View/Compare Documents to appear in Acrobat X?

Do you have Acrobat X Pro or Standard? Because this feature is only
    available in Pro...

  • Can not compare documents

Hi, I just found out that you can compare documents in Acrobat.  By problem is that I have two versions of a document that I would like to compare in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.  But when I go to > Document > Compare Documents it comes up with an error message:
“These documents have security settings which prevent comparison.  Please modify the security settings to allow editing and try again.”
In both documents I have gone to > Advanced > Security > Show Security Properties; but the both show in the Security Tab “No Security” in the Security Method and everything is “Allowed” in the document restrictions part.
What other security settings would this error message be talking about?
    Thanks in advance

I have the same trouble when I compare secured documents. I have received the documents from other person who has secured the documents and I can not change the settings.
So, how to compare secured documents? I see no reason why to prevent comparison because I do not edit them, only compare.
