Comparing 2 PDF documents text - differnet results in 8.2 and 9.0 versions of Professional

I am trying to compare 2 PDF Documents - Text. When I compare it in Version 8.2 of Adobe Professional using the right Options and selecting text compare. It compares the two documents perfectly fine and give me the right difference results.
When I compare the same 2 PDF documents - text in 9.0. It give me a totally different results. It treats the PDFs as Image and doesn't compare and produce right and clean way as 8.2. Do you know the reason why this is happening in 9.0.
Ideally all the functionality that is being supported in 8.2 should be supported in 9.0 Right??

  • Comparing pdf documents

I receive multiple copies of pdf documents from different sources and many
times they differ by just a few pages. (that is, 1 set has 1 or 2 extra
pages that the first set did not). Does anyone know of a program that can
actually compare 2 pdf documents and determine if pages are missing? I have
seen many programs that compare by text, but they compare page 1 of a file
to page 1 of another file. If the pages are not in the same order, the
    comparison is useless. Thanks

    Hi David,
I have the same question! Were you ever able to figure out a solution? Do you know if there is a way to add a page to get them back on track?
thanks for any insight you might have!

  • After installing, PDF document text is now all blocks??

So I install iLife 09 and iWork 09 and now all my PDF documents show gray blocks rather than text??
    Example
    http://www.myrobtv.com/Home/PDFDocumentProblem.html

PDF documents show gray blocks rather than text
People colour type even if type should not be coloured (colour reduces contrast and reduction of contrast reduces legibility).
If people colour type, they can choose a soft colour such as gray or yellow and they can choose to set soft transparency on top of this which further reduces contrast.
The screenshot suggests you did something along the lines of the above.

  • 11.0.10 Update Issue -  Problem saving documents - getting message "This document could not be saved.  There was a problem reading this document (21)."  The PDF documents are being created by Esker VSIFax and the problem is only occuring with updated vers

Our IBM Unix system uses a program called VSIFax (Esker) to create PDF documents such as invoices.  Users that have updated to Acrobat version 11.0.10 can open the PDF but then when trying to save the document the get a message "This document could not be saved.  There was a problem reading this document (21)."  The problem is only occuring with updated version 11.0.10 (11.0.9 works fine).

More information about this issue can be found here:
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1672655
A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially.
I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.

  • PDF Documents with Functional Buttons - Works for IE and FireFox but not for Chrome and Safari

    To all,
Good morning.  Our institution developed a PDF document with functional buttons for printing and e-mailing.  When the document is viewed via Internet Explorer and Firefox, the functional buttons work as expected.  However if the document is viewed via Chrome and Safari, the functional buttons do not work.  The workaround for those who are using Chrome and Safari, the PDF document needs to be saved to their local drive before the functional buttons work.
Has anyone experienced this issue before?  If yes, what was your solution other than the workaround.
    Thanks.

  • View compared PDF deleted text

Hello!  After utilizing the Adobe Pro "compare" feature, how do you view the deleted text within the document (as opposed to only having access to it by resting the mouse on the revised text)?  Thank you!

I believe you are referring to a service like this which would yes, enable you to view deleted texts...

  • Connecting Multiple PDF Document Text

My project consists of creating a PDF input form (PDF1) where a user will enter answers to questions. The form questions correspond with a template (PDF2) and the answers to the specific questions will be put in a specific place in the template.
The user will then email PDF1 with the completed questions to our data entry person and she will key it into the template manually.
Is there any way to link the two files so that once the user has entered all the required information into PDF1, the information can be transferred to PDF2 in the corresponding field without completing any manual data entry?
I am using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8, Windows XP Pro, and I do have access to LiveCycle Designer.

See "Using Javascript to create concatenated string from checkbox fields to one text field" http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b56b84/7 for the Acorbat "fillin()" function that can concatenate up to 3 string fields and insert an optional separator as necessary based on the non-null passed strings. Be sure to click on the "Show All Messages" to see all the provided code.

  • Some PDFs contain text (e.g. OCR'd) and some do not contain text.

I have a document management system that full text indexes all of our documents, but if a PDF is simply a picture then the full text indexing becomes useless unless I run an 'OCR' on the PDF...in essence adding text.
In order to make PDFS fulltext searchable I run an OCR process on an entire folder.  I'd rather not run that process on PDFs that ALREADY have embedded text.  Is there a way to identify whether or a PDF has embedded text without opening it.

You can use a Preflight to check the PDFs via an Action (Acrobat X) or Batch Sequence (pre-Acrobat X).
The Preflight would use a Custom check.
You could use "Can be mapped to Unicode"
To be searchable the PDF pages' glyphs must map to Unicode.
Similarly you can create a Preflight, Custom check to evaluate for "Invisible text objects".
"Invisible text objects" are text objects using text rendering mode 3 (invisible text).
Text rendering mode 3 (no glyph/font fill or stroke) is used for the output of OCR (Searchable Image and Searchable Image (Exact)).
Acrobat Pro has two out-of-the-box Preflights that may also be of interest.
One to use a fix-up to embed fonts another to embed fonts (including text rendering mode 3).
    Be well...

  • Creating PDF from multiple files results in file name AND chapter name both appearing in TOC.

And all the bookmarks in that chapter nest directly under the file name. I would rather have just the chapter title appear with no file name in the TOC and the chapter bookmarks nested under that.

    Hi tekwrite1955,
This is an expected behavior. When you create a pdf from any file it will list the filename in the TOC.
You have to manually edit the bookmarks.

  • PDF from 9.0 results in weird inter- and intra-word spacing. Cause?

Running Framemaker Version 9.0p250 on Windows XP.
I printed a book using the Adobe PDF printer driver. There are scattered instances where there are significant spaces (between 3 and 12 n-spaces) between consecutive letters of a word or between two words. For example:
Inter-word spacing examples:      main    processes employed and          the functional
Intra-word spacing examples:      audi         t         Descrip                        tion
These spaces do not exist in the Framemaker source files. In addition, when I copy the content containing these spaces to the Clipboard and then paste them into this message, the odd spacing disappears. However, when I print the pages containing these errors to my local or network printers, the pages print with the strange spacing intact.
I checked maker.ini and the setting is "DisplayUsingPrinterMetrics=On" as expected.
    Any help much appreciated!
    Val

Information about the hotfix is here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/2008/07/hotfix_for_framemaker_1.html
    PS Hotfix KB 952909
Over the years I've occasionally seen extremely large spaces like that but it was always resolved by a reboot.

  • How to upload a PDF document from an e-mail attachment file and convert it to word document for edit

I received an e-mail.The attachment is in PDF format. I would like to upload the file to convert it to word for editing. How to do that?

    Hi Quincy,
You would need to save the file to your desktop and upload it from there for conversion using your ExportPDF subscription.
Let me know if you need further assistance!

  • Why do all pdf documents open only for a few seconds and then close?

I'm on a Mac Book Pro using OSX 10.8.5
I just updated Adobe Acrobat X Pro to to 10.1.8

It could be because you haven't accepted the license agreement.  I woud suggest that you open the Applications folder, double click on the EULA.
And this is the Reader forum, not the Acrobat one...

  • Highlighting text in PDF document

I am a surgeon and subscribe to lot of medical journals which are now increasingly made available for downloading in PDF format. I am used to highlighting the important text in an article with an ordinary hi-lighter pen to make it easy when I need to go back to that article.
Is there a way one can highlight the text in a PDF document the way one can highlight it on a paper? Will professional versions of Acrobat solve my problem?
    Sanjay Ghotkar

A little late for the original post, but for anyone else looking to highlight text in Acrobat Pro 9 and be able to change the highlighter color...
    Accessing the highlighter tool:
    Right-click on the Toolbar.
Select/check "Comment and Markup." This is the toolbar that contains the Highlight Text tool.
    Changing the highlighter color:
You can right-click on the highlighted text and go to Properties, etc, but there's a more convenient method.
While using the Highlight Text tool, turn on the Properties Bar (make it visible)
    Window:  Ctl+E
    Mac:  Cmd+E
Mouse:  Right-click on the Toolbar and select/check Properties Bar.
This will give you quick access to your highlighter properties, and it will remember your selected color between uses.
The Properties Bar is context aware and will change based on the tool you're actively using, so you have access to change your highlight color through it when the Highlight Text tool is selected/in use.

  • I cannot open a pdf document in Safari 6

When I clik, on a website to a link opening a pdf document I only get a black screen and no pdf opens!  (Mac OSX Lion et safari version6.0.2
    What dan I do?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.
