Comparing count of one table with another

Hi,
I want to compare the number of rows in three tables with the number of rows in another table and see if they are equal
Here is what I have so far:
SELECT decode(the_count,100,1,0) from (select sum(num_rows) as the_count from user_tables where table_name in('LOCATION','DEPARTMENT','JOB'));
This compares the number of rows with 100. If they equal 100m, then 1 is displayed, otherwise 0.
I want to compare the_count with the result of select(num_rows) as other_count from user_tables where table_name='EMPLOYEE';
Any suggestions?

it is better to use the actual table.
  select decode(cnt1.the_count,cnt2.other_count,'Number of rows equal','Number of rows not equal') comment
    from (select sum(row_cnt) the_count
            from (select count(*) row_cnt
                    from job
                  union all
                  select count(*) row_cnt
                    from salary_grade)) cnt1
          select count(*) other_count
            from price) cnt2;

  • How do I replace one table with another

    In my swing application I go out over the network and retrieve information, and then present that info in a table. Problem is this button can be pressed more than once, so in this case the old table needs to be replaced. Looking through the API their does not seem ot be a remove to compliment add. Right now when I hit the button multiple times another table just gets added to the right of the previous table.
    So how do I get rid of the first table?

    Im not that advanced yet -- although I have looked over the literature and understand what you mean. Seems to me tables are more complicated than other swing elements. In any case, the container class DOES have a remove method, which is being used succesfully. Thanx for replying.

  • Validate one table with another

    Brand new to HTMLDB, can't find specifics in HELP.
    I need to validate a user entry as follows:
    User is trying to create a new record in tableA.
    But tableA.column1 must be found in tableB.column1, or they will receive an error message. Where do I put the SQL validation and what condition do I use?
    Thank you for any help.

    That's a very good idea. I did that. It works when I attempt to add a record outside of HTML DB, however within my page, it still allows all values. Rather than creating a whole new "add" page using the wizard, what can I change on my existing page to allow for this constraint check?
    Thanks.

  • How to insert records with LONG RAW columns from one table to another

    Does anybody know how to use subquery to insert records with columns of LONG RAW datatype from one table to another? Can I add a WHERE clause in the subquery statement? Thanks.

    Insert into ... Select statements are not supported for long or long raw. You will have to either use PL/SQL or convert your long raw to blobs.

  • How to convert data when transferring from one table to another

    I have two tables and these are the structure of the tables
    create table E1(
    ID NUMBER
    ,NAME VARCHAR2(30)

    ,GENDER VARCHAR2(10));
    create table E2(
    ID NUMBER
    ,NAME VARCHAR2(30)
    , DESIGNATION VARCHAR2(3)
    ,GENDER NUMBER); Now I want to transfer records from one table to another using a master tables where data are compared because the datatypes in tables are different
    The first one is a gender table to match the gender and convert
    create table Gender(
    E1 varchar2(10),
    E2 number);The second is for the designation
    create table Designation(

    Can we do it with the help of a cursor.
    All SQL executed by the database are parsed as cursors and executed as cursors.
    I mean I have to insert data in bulk and I want to use cursor for it.The read and write (select and insert) are done by the SQL engine. The read part reads data and passes it to the write part that inserts the data.
    Now why would using PL/SQL and bulk processing make this faster? It will reside in-between the read part and the write part being done by the SQL engine.
    So the SQL engine reads the data. This then travels all the way to the PL/SQL engine as a bulk collect. PL./SQL then issues an insert (the write part to be done by the SQL engine). And now this very same data travels all the way from the PL/SQL engine to the SQL engine for insertion.
    So just how is this approach, where you add extra travel time to data, faster?
    and i want to commit the transaction after every 50 recordsWhy? What makes you think this is better? What makes you think you have a problem with not committing every 50 rows?

  • Moving time-dependant data from one table to another (archiving)

    Hello all
    I would like to know if there's an easier solution or a "best practice" to move data from one table to another. The context of this issue can be found within "archiving".
    More concretely: we have an application that uses several tables to log information to.
    These tables are growing like crazy, and we would like to keep only "relevant" data in those tables, so I was thinking about moving data from these tables that have been in there for, say 2 months, to "archiving" tables.
    I figured there must be some kind of "best practice" to get this done.
    I have already written a procedure that loops the table that has the time indicator and inserts the records from the normal tables into the archive tables (and afterwards delete this data), but it seems to be taking ages to get it done.
    Thanks in advance!

    There is nothing to do with PL/SQL.

  • How to replace one variable with another in large number of queries

    Hello guys!
    I have this situation: our company needs to use one variable instead of another for certain amount of queries.
    Is there some way to automatically replace one variable with another for a certain characteristic in big number of queries ( like 150 - 200 ) ? Doing this manually would take lots of time)
    Apreciate your help!

    you could try (at your own risk) the following:
    1. search the technical id (ELTUID) of your variable in table RSZELTDIR
    2. see where this variable is used in table RSZELTXREF (by filling RSZELTDIR-ELTUIID in RSZELTXREF-TELTUID)
    3. add similar entries for your new variable
    4. delete the entries for the old variable (they're part of the key, so you can't simply "change" them)

  • How to update one table from another

    I am creating scripts in Oracle 10g. I have a table that has data corruption on three date fields.
    I created a table with the following sql of all the affected rows:
    CREATE TABLE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE AS
    select request_id,received_date,planned_start_date, actual_start_date
    from lsu_inter2_requests_t
    where received_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
    OR planned_start_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
    OR actual_start_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
    I then repaired all of the rows with three data fixes
    UPDATE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE
    SET received_date = TO_CHAR(received_date,'YY-MON') ||'-'||(TO_CHAR(received_date,'RRRR') + 2000)
    where received_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
    UPDATE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE
    SET planned_start_date = TO_CHAR(planned_start_date,'YY-MON') ||'-'||(TO_CHAR(planned_start_date,'RRRR') + 2000)
    where planned_start_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
    UPDATE LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE

    where actual_start_date < to_date('01-JAN-1900')
    I now want to update the original base table with the corrected data so I wrote the following SQL UPDATE command:
    UPDATE lsu_inter2_requests_t aaa
    SET aaa.received_date = bbb.received_date
    FROM LSU_INTER_FIX_DATE bbb WHERE aaa.request_id = bbb.request_id
    When I run this sql Oracle returns the error “ORA-00933 SQL command not properly ended.” How do I update multiple rows in one table from another table that share the same primary key?

    When you want to produce a DATE datatype when starting with a string,
    you must use TO_DATE() on the SET line!
    (TO_CHAR(received_date,'RRRR') + 2000)since when do you do add characters (from TO_CHAR) with a constant number (2000)?
    You should NEVER EVER rely on implicit datatype conversion

  • How to copy data from one table to another (in other database)

    Hi. I would like to copy all rows from one table to another (and not use BC4J). Tables can be in various databases. I have already 2 connections and I am able to browse source table using
    ResultSet rset = stmt.executeQuery("select ...");
    But I would not like to create special insert statement for every row . There will be problems with date formats etc and it will be slow. Can I use retrieved ResultSet somehow ? Maybe with method insertRow, but how, if ResultSet is based on select statement and want to insert into target table? Please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

    No tools please, it must be common solution. We suceeded in converting our BC4J aplication to PostgreSQL, the MSSQL will be next. So we want to write simple aplication, which could transfer data from our tables between these 3 servers.

  • Copy data from one Table to another Table

    How can I copy data from one Oracle Table to another Oracle Table on a different server? Question 2: How can I clear all of the data in one Table with a single SQL script?
    Thanks...

    Question 1:
    I assume you have the privileges. If you don't, ask the DBA to give them to you. Then
    1. Login to database_source (It could be either the source or the target. Let's assume it's the source.)
    2. Create a database link to database_target: CREATE DATABASE LINK link_to_database_target CONNECT TO myuserid IDENTIFIED BY mypassword USING 'database_target'; Note the single quotes.
    3. Copy the table data: INSERT INTO targetowner.mytable@link_to_database_target SELECT * FROM sourceowner.mytable; COMMIT;
    Question 2:
    You have two options, but you may not have privileges for both.
    Option 1:
    DELETE FROM tableowner.tablename; COMMIT;
    Advantage: Since this is a DML (Data Manipulation Language) statement, you have to commit the transaction. Also, the data will be gone but the table size is NOT changed, so it's ready for accepting replacement data. DML statements can simply be executed not only from SQL scripts, but from PL/SQL scripts as well.
    Disadvantage: Slow, because all record deletion is logged, so you can recover from it by issuing a ROLLBACK; instead of the COMMIT; above. The table size is NOT changed, so if you are short of disk space or tablespace space, you have not resolved the issue.
    Option 2:
    TRUNCATE TABLE tableowner.tablename;
    Advantage: Since this is a DDL (Data Definition Language) command, you do NOT have to commit the transaction. (DDL commands automatically commit both before and after their execution.) The table size will be changed back to the initial extent size which is the minimum size a table can have and can only be set when the table is created. If it needs to be changed, the table has to be dropped and recreated with a different initial extent size. The statement execution of this command is not logged, therefore it's much faster then the DELETE.
    Disadvantage: No rollback. Being a DDL, this command cannot be executed straight from PL/SQL. If you need to issue this within PL/SQL, you will have to use dynamic SQL.

  • Flowing data from one Table to another

    I am new to Numbers and I am having a hard time figuring out how to flow a sum from one table into another table. Is this possible? Please help.

    Hi lassiegirl,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Numbers '09 forum.
    Apple provides two excellent resources that I recommend be downloaded by all Numbers users, the Numbers '09 User Guide and the iWork Formulas and Functions User Guide. You'll find linke for both of them in the Help menu in Numbers.
    The first will give you an overview of Numbers and how it works—spend some time with the preface and the first chapter, browse the rest on a need to know basis when you're doing something new. The second is a reference, useful when you're trying to write a formula.
    To your question...
    You can copy the sum from one table to another.
    For the example formula beow, both Table 1 and Table 2 have one header row and one footer row, and a total of 21 rows each.
    If the SUM on Table 1 is in cell C21, and you want to include it in the SUM of column C in Table 2, you could transfer the sum to C1 in the header row of Table 2 with:
    C1:  =Table 1::C21
    In C21 of Table 2 (a Footer row), use any of these formulas:
    =SUM(C)+C1
    =SUM(Table 1::C)+SUM(C)
    =SUM(Table 1 :: C,C)
    The first calculates the sum of the cells in column C (of its own table—Table 2) and adds the value in C1, the total transferred from Table 1.
    The second returns the same result by calculating the sums of the two columns separately, then adding those sums.
    The third takes the single arguments of the two SUM statements in the second, and lists them as multiple arguments in a single SUM statement.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Append data from one table to another.

    Hi,
    I want to insert/append some or all the data from one table to another table.
    For eg: Data from table table1 to be appended to table2 with the same constraints, indexes etc. The columns are same for both the tables.
    I am using 10g version 2.
    Please specify which method would be good for this process.
    Thanks
    Jafar

    INSERT INTO TABLE1 SELECT * FROM TABLE2;The above command would insert data into table2 and it also contain the old data.Is that right,
    Thanks
    Jafar

  • Copying table rows from one table to another table form

    Hi
    I have a problem about Copying table rows from one table to another table form.On jsf pages if you enter command button go anather jsf page and it copy one row to another table row. But when i execute this process for table FORM it doesn't copy I wrote a code under "createRowFromResultSet - overridden for custom java data source support." Code block is:
    ViewRowImpl value = super.createRowFromResultSet(qc, resultSet);
    try{
    AdfFacesContext fct = AdfFacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    Number abc = (Number)fct.getProcessScope().get("___");
    value.setAttribute("___",abc);
    }catch(Exception ex){System.out.println(ex);  }
    return value;

    Table may be copied with the
    expdp and impdp utilities.
