Comparing Libraries

Hi there!
Level of Experience: Beginner
Backstory: Back when I had no idea what I was doing, I was trying to access my original aperture library over a wifi network share...bad idea lol. Well, I tried this with about 4 different libraries before I knew better. Each library is likely damaged but does open correctly and each one contains some photos, many of which are probably duplicates.
Task: Since I can't have multiple libraries open at once to compare, I'm trying to consolidate them to one instance of aperture so I can figure out how to sort through them all. I recently found and utilized the Import > Library feature and used this for each one of my old libraries. I now have them all in to one instance of aperture. Now this leaves me with a 1TB mess of unorganized files that I need to sort through to ensure I leave no photo behind. During the import of the libraries, I did put them in their respective libraries so I can at least compare by # of items or size of the library/project/folder for instance, though I'm not sure how to do that in aperture.
Question: What is the best way to confirm that all the files that were imported from another library are currently in my new library and how is it done within aperture? (Compare by size, # of items, etc?)
The folders below equate to the libraries mentioned in this post...
CURRENT: My new aperture library that I'm consolidating everything in to.
Aperture Library latest: Attempt #3
Aperture Library 1: Attempt #1
Aperture Library 2: Attempt #2

This issue still remains, not sure what do to.
Also, In an effort to manually pick things out which will certainly end poorly, I tried comparing photo by photo. Problem is that the thumbnail previews aren't the same as the photo itself when it's double-clicked. I've done the following: "Generate Thumbnails," "Update Preview," and "Generate Preview." All have taken considerable time (1 day or so) to do, each completed successfully, and each made no difference. I'm also currently running WhatSize for Mac to see if it has any suggestions. The duplicate finder has also been running for about a day.
Can anyone give any helpful advice on any of this or am I doomed?

  • Home Share comparing libraries

    Running iTunes 10.1 with Homes Sharing On and working. I have two libraries connected, one with music only and another with all my videos too. When browsing the Home Shared library with all the media, I see it all. When I choose the "Items not in my Library" option, I expected to see all the videos not in the library. Instead, the only media I see are the few tagged in the main library as TV Shows. All of the media tagged as a movie or music video is missing. This seems to be a bug in this version.
    I wiped out the iTunes library files on the small library and reset everything. At first, the comparison toggle correctly showed all the videos not in the current library. *Then I set up the Genius feature.* After the Genius was complete, all the missing videos were again not displayed as "Items not in my library". The Genius setup process seems to have changed something.

    Tried the Genius solution you posted and confirmed it worked. Great job. Specifically, I turned off Genius on both machines, turned off home sharing on both after the Genius results deleted and then turned Home Sharing back on. Worked perfect, showed all items that were not in library.

  • Help understanding shared iTunes library on external drive

    Here is what I tried to accomplish:
    merge two iTunes libraries (currently on two MacBooks) and store all music files on external drive, but keep each MacBook's custom playlists intact - the idea is to make space on each laptop.
    I started comparing libraries on each laptop with the external iTunes library and copied missing media files/folders over to the external drive.
    Question: is it save now to delete media folders from each laptop and just keep the library files in each laptops Music > iTunes folder?
    Question 2: which folder do I select when changing to new iTunes Media folder in Preferences?
    There is no iTunes Media folder on the external drive.
    The folders Music, Movies, Podcast etc just reside in a folder called iTunes (which also holds some library files)

    Launch iTunes with the Shift key held down, click on Choose Library, and navigate to that instance of the library.

  • None of Mail or iTunes or other app connect to iPhoto.

    When I use the icon Photo navigator on mail or word or when I want to use iphoto in iTunes to select the photos I want to sync with my iPhone, the option iphoto does not appear or it says "open Iphoto to see your iphoto library" (word)
    Is there somewhere in iphoto where I should accept to share the library with other applications?
    Thanks for input
    jls

    Thank you for your input.
    I have iPhoto 9.6 (919.29). I have already made all the 4  steps proposed in the dialog box which opens when you double click on the library with alt-cmd pressed. BTW  I also have the problem when iphoto is opened with a different library that I have on a separate hd. I also tried to re install yosemite using command-r on the start of my macbook air. I recently used iphoto library manager to compare libraries, but I am not sure if the problem came right after that.
    When I do the same as described on the first message with the macbook air of my wife, which also runs Yosemite, there i can use iphoto to select the photos I want to sync with her iphone!! This is the reason I asked if it is not a iPhoto authorization problem?

  • Compare 2 Document Libraries from different Site Collections

    Hello,
    We are in the middle of migrating from SP 2013 to SP 365 and I would like to be able to compare the documents from our existing document libraries to what was moved over to the corresponding 365 document library.  Is there a search feature in Windows
    or something easy someone can tell me about?  Right now I am taking screen shots of the 2 libraries and doing this manually.  I added a 'count' in my view in the library and that helped a little but thought there would be a search or something like
    that.  Any help is much appreciated!

    Hi
    You can use ShareGate tool to compare or even move your whole document library to SP 365 with content and permissions.
    Also it comes with 15 day trial so you can review it and use it without any problem for 15 days

  • Help!!!! Comparing 2 libraries

    Help Please! I was trying to organize all my music onto 1 hard drive and I dragged the Itunes Music Folder into the Itunes on my new computer. Now some of the music is missing. I put music from other computers into the new one already and when I added the bulk of my old computer's music in it didn't add up. Now I can't start all over again because I would lose the songs I put in there already. Is there a way to compare 2 libraries to find out what is missing? I can't go through album by album because I have over 10k in songs. Thanks

    the first error is:
    esp == espanol;
    eng == ingles;
    that does nothing useful so you should remove it.
    you can use:
    var ingles:Boolean;
    var espanol:Boolean;
    background1.addChild(eng);
    background1.addChild(esp);
    esp.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, spanish);
    function spanish(event:MouseEvent):void {
         espanol=true;
        instructivo.text="Estas en el ...";
            background1.addChild(instructivo);
    var score_text:TextField = new TextField();
    score_text.x = 100;
    score_text.y = 100;
    score_text.width = 100,95;
    score_text.height = 100,95;
    score_text.defaultTextFormat = fmat3;
    if (espanol) {score_text.text = "Puntaje:"}
    if (ingles) {score_text.text = "Score:"}

  • Can you run 2 iTunes? Compare 2 libraries

    Hi,
    Is it possible to have 2 iTunes (with different libraries) running at the same time?
    Currently, I have to quit iTunes in order to access my other library.
    If not, what would be the best way to compare the content of 2 iTunes libraries?
    Many thanks,
    Leonardo

    check out PowerTunes. also, there is http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/ituneslibrarymanager.php.
    the developer of SuperSync claims that the app can *Compare and merge any two music libraries*.

  • How to compare photo libraries?

    I started using the internal drive on my mini for storage of my photos...initially, no problem, as I didn't have a digital SLR, and wasn't taking as many photos. Now, I have added over 6000 this year and am over 10,000 pix. At some point I duplicated the library to my ext. f/w 250 gb drive and load new photos there, exclusively.
    I'm a little concerned that some of the early photos may not be in the current external library. Is there any way to have the program (or some external program) compare the libraries and indicated any photos which occur in one and not the other?
    (I know, I should have made sure it was the latest when I switched) but it began as an experiment to see if the 7200 rpm speed of the external was enough of a benefit to eliminate using the internal 4200 rpm drive...answer for me, was a YES.
    TIA.

    John
    I honestly don't know, and the website is unclear, so a little trial and error might be in order.
    Another possibility might be to explore what you can achieve with iPhoto Library Manager. It has a Merge function (the paid version, that is, at $19.95) that might be worth exploring as well.
    You can download it here:

    Not exactly what you're looking for, but it may help...

  • How to compare two libraries

    I recently bought a 17-inch MBP to replace my old WindTunnel G4 as my primary machine. (The G4 will still be in service as a server.) I'm in the process of bringing my iTunes library over to the MBP, a process that has been made much easier by Home Sharing in iTunes 9. Thank you, Apple, for this feature!
    My question is, when I connect to the shared library, iTunes on the MBP shows 41 fewer tracks than iTunes on the G4 shows. With nearly 200GB of music (over 40,000 tracks) in my library, manually comparing the two libraries to determine which tracks are missing would be an exercise in boredom and futility. Is there any automated way, any software, that I can use to compare the contents of the two libraries so I can locate the missing tracks and figure out what's wrong with them? I'm not averse to using Terminal if that's going to be the most straightforward way to do it.

    I am in the same boat as you are Mark. I only have about 88G and 16,000 tracks of music (that does not include any video), and in trying to manually compare two libraries from directory listings by hand is not the way to do things. I am also thinking that creating some output listings for the directory is the solution, but the directory structure is not the same, and would require some level of automation for dumping the differences. I am a tad rusty at my unix scripting to say the least, but I guess I could pull out some of the old reference books. Even if a properly specified ls command could give an output format to pull into an excel file? and then be able to do the diff there with some small tweaking ? I've gotten myself into a bit of a mess with this (nothing that can not be resolved with some careful cleanup), but I don't want to have to rebuild another new library from my old master if I could do a diff between the two, so I can add the remaining 10G (estimated) that is missing in the new library.
    Hopefully by replying to your thread someone else will spot this and can give an assist.
    I am missing a lot more than 41 tracks, I am guessing a few hundred (200 - 300 plus?).
    One place to check on the old library is in the unknown folders? (unknown album or unknown artist?) and also to check under what is labeled as a compilations folder.
    I think what created part of my problem is that I suspect the new directory structure (part of the new iTunes version) placed on top of the old directory structure (prior iTunes versions - when the orig library was created back in 2003 and then moved to an external device) was something I did not clearly understand or investigate sufficiently prior to starting to move things around. I have not lost anything (i.e. the physical files are all still there in the old master, along with a backup), but certainly the new master is not in full synch with the old master.
    I would have preferred to be far less cognizant of some of these things, but as this exercise continues some of this gets unearthed.

  • Compare two different iPhoto Libraries

    Is there any program that could compare two iPhoto Libraries and let me know the difference between them? I've got two libraries, they should have the same pictures, but for some reason one is 80GB bigger than the other one.
    I know there are duplicates, but 80GB seems a lot for only duplicates, so I want to compare both of them and see what pictures are missing.

    How many photos does iPhoto indicate in each of the libraries? Open the Photo mode, do a select all and see how many are indicated at the bottom of the window. See if that corresponds to the number beside the Photos icon under the Events library. Be sure to turn on Item Counts in iPhoto's General preference pane.
    Which is the larger: the old or the new?

  • How to compare two big itunes libraries

    I´m looking for a way to compare two different itunes libraries, each one with about 50.000 tracks, in order to find all the tracks that aren´t common in both. How can I do this?. How many entries con handle itunes in windows without problems and how much memory I need?
    Thanks in advance
    Dell 9100   Windows XP

    I don't think there is a way of doing this directly as iTunes can only handle one library at a time.
    You could export each library into a separate text file and then use other software fo compare them. If you have database software, it should be fairly easy to do using that. The files should be easy to import as tab delimited files.

  • Compare two iTunes Libraries

    Hi all.
    I have two iTunes Libraries: one in my Time Capsule and one in an external HD. They are similar with slight differences. In the TC library I have 15.600 tracks, in the HD I have 14.900 tracks. I'd like to update the HD library with the same tracks I have in the TC library. How can I compare the two libraries in order to understand what tracks I have to copy?
    Thanks.

    I know this email is confusing and really hard to understand...perhaps now you will know how i've been feeling--lost and confused with all the mis-information, with a hit and miss phone, and out of time with all the 1 1/2 hr to 2 hrs EACH wasted on this issue.
    On top of all this, I can't even find out how to file a complaint with anyone higher up than Customer Service.
    I hate to tell you this, but you didn't write an email. You wrote a discussion post on the Verizon Wireless Community forum which is a public peer to peer forum. Unfortunately since you didn't mark your post as a question, the VZW reps that roam this community won't ever see your post. Before you re-post it, don't. Duplicate posts get removed from the community.
    I see there were several missteps both by the reps and yourself in your post. First you should have insisted on returning the phone within the 14 day return policy period. Second which Samsung Galaxy mini model did you purchase? The S3 mini or the S4 mini? Did you do any research prior to deciding on this device. The reps at that time deflected the easiest course of action, by trying to get you to replace the phone under insurance instead of returning the phone. The Early Edge payment option requires the current phone on the line using the early Edge must be returned to Verizon Wireless. Did you once considered going to a third party site like Swappa to purchase a gently used device for your daughter?

  • How do I open iTunes on 2 drives at once, to compare them?

    I recently noticed that iTunes on my iMac lost a few tracks, but whether this was my carelessness or whether it was a 'glitch' I just don't know. In the end I found them on an older backup of iTunes on my external HD.
    My question is this : I now want to open iTunes twice - one using the Mac's Library, the other using the external HD Library - to check and compare the contents.
    What I tried first was to open the external backup's XML file, but though TextEdit opens it, it is all html and I can't use it; I also tried to open it using FileMaker 6, but although I supplied it with the http: path specified in the 2nd line of the TextEdit document (as a DTD reference - which is what FM6 asked for, I haven't a clue what this is about) it very quickly produced a syntax error.
    Then I tried opening the "iTunes Library" document (again, in TextEdit) but this was even worse, it might just as well have been a picture document for all I could get any sense out of it.
    So what I want to do now, is to compare the two Libraries directly by having iTunes open twice over, to have both Libraries open simultaneously - but please be aware that I don't actually need the MUSIC from the external backup, just the list of Songs and Artists and Albums in a meaningfully browse-able form.
    (And please - don't suggest I open the external drive's iTunes Library using a new user account specially for the purpose : I know I can do that, but I need both Libraries open SIDE BY SIDE so I can compare them easily).

    Hi - no, this is no good. I already have pdf's of the two libraries, but cross-checking them is too much of a task as I cannot do the kind of manipulation on them I can do directly in iTunes itself (click headings to re-sort by different criteria instantly; do comparisons by subfolders or smart folders; use subfolders to create temporary playlists ready for deletion or copying across; put 'marker' comments in fields such as Comment or Grouping, etc etc etc).
    No, I need to do what I originally asked : have iTunes open TWICE, each with a different Library, in the same user account. How do I do this?

  • Report on Sites, Lists and Libraries with Unique Permissions

    I would like to get a report on Sites, Pages, Lists, Libraries, Items and Documents under a Site Collection having Unique Permissions. What is the best way to accomplish that ?

    Finally catch your meaning. In SharePoint 2010, uniquely secured objects can be displayed on the permission settings page of the parent object(see my screenshots here
    http://cid-6f40fb61d28cf147.office.live.com/view.aspx/Technology/UniquePermission.docx
    ). And as you may already know, it seems only show inheritance broken within a site. I found it does not show unique permission of sub sites in a site collection.
    You may want something like a Broken Inheritance Report Jobs in SharePoint Administration Toolkit for SharePoint 2007 (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sharepoint/archive/2009/08/27/announcing-the-fourth-release-of-the-microsoft-sharepoint-administration-toolkit.aspx
    ). However, I had not found it in SharePoint Administration toolkit for SharePoint 2010.
    If you are currently in need of this kind of reports, you may try third party tools such as that from the Lightingtools(I am not familiar with it and don’t know
    if it will meet your requirement).
    Or you can back up the content database from and restore it to test environment to query. With the help of SQL Server profiler, I found that the stored procedure proc_SecChangeToUniqueScope(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd358095(PROT.13).aspx
    ) is called when you break permission inheritance. You can find more information around this store procedure by searching:
    http://www.bing.com/search?q=site%3Amsdn.microsoft.com+proc_SecChangeToUniqueScope
    And you can make use of database comparison tools such as that from the visual studio 2010 premium/ultimate to compare the content database before and after the site
    permission inheritance is broken to learn what tables to query (of cause, you should do all this in test environment).
