Comparision of Oracle upgrade(9i to 10g) and export/import process

Hi Friends,
I have a schema in Oracle 9i Database and i would like to have it in Oracle 10g.
I ned to know what will be the advantages and disavantages between the Oracle upgrade(9i and 10g) and export/import (9i export and 10g import)process?
Please suggest.

  • Difference Between Export and Direct Import Process.

    Hi SD Gurus,
Can anyone help to understnad difference betwenn Export and Direct Import Process.

    Hi,
export = out of the system or country
import = into the system or country
    For example in SAP-ABAP
    On the EXPORT side
    DATA: ls_indx TYPE indx.
    ls_indx-aedat = sy-datum.
    ls_indx-usera = sy-uname.
    ls_indx-pgmid = 'ZNAME'.
    EXPORT tab = lt_orders
    TO DATABASE indx(v1)
    FROM ls_indx ID 'PERCENT'.
    On the IMPORT side
    DATA: ls_indx TYPE indx.
    ls_indx-aedat = sy-datum.
    ls_indx-usera = sy-uname.
    ls_indx-pgmid = 'ZNAME'.
    IMPORT tab = lt_orders
    FROM DATABASE indx(v1)
    TO ls_indx ID 'PERCENT'

  • Difference between "Archive/restore" and "Export/import"

What's the difference between the utilities "Archive/restore" and "Export/import"?
Which utility must I use for putting my maps from a development environment to a production environment?
For the moment I am using version 9.0.3.
I will migrate to 9.2 when the version for AIX is available.

    Marc,
You should use OWB Metadata Export/Import utilities (not to be confused with Database Export/Import utilities).
The Archive and Restore utilities will be desupported in the next release of OWB.
The exact differences are documented in "OWB 9.2 User Guide", page 15-12, "Differences Between Archive and Export" and page 15-23, "Differences Between Restore and Import". The same sections are available in "OWB 9.0.3 User Guide", pages 11-45 and 11-46 respectively.

  • Upgrading JVM in 10g and 9 - again

    Hi
I need to have Java 1.5 in Oracle Database 10 and 9. I know that there was a disscussion on this in Re: Oracle 9.2 update jvm's jdk? But it was 2007.
Has something change in this matter ?? Kuassi wrote "We are looking into this for future releases".
My problem looks this : I need to write/migrate PL/SQL packages for authenticating and manage administrative applications for RSA Authentication Manager 7.1.
Now this is implementend upon RSA 5.0 C language API and called through ext_proc.
This new RSA 7.1 no longer supports C API . Writing EXP_PROC in C for calling Java through JNI is out of the question.
Please advice how to force upgrade JDK in Oracle 10 an 9.
    Thanks in advance
    Jacek

    Hi Jacek:
There is no possibility to upgrade the JDK into 10g and 9i databases.
As Kuassi's say the design of the Oracle JVM is different from other alternatives, which means is complete integrated to the RDBMS sharing, for example, the memory manager and the thread manager.
Oracle 11g by design provides the possibility to upgrade his internal JDK 1.5 to 1.6 or other, sure using a patchset. But now there is no upgrade planned.
    Best regards, Marcelo.
PD: Did you try compiling the code outside with a JDK 1.5 and using a Retrotranslator to downgrade to 1.4

  • Creating an Oracle Spatial database in 10g and connecting ArcGIS

I have a set of shapefiles that I want to convert into Oracle Spatial 10g and then be able to view these with the capability of ArcGIS 9 (without using ArcSDE).
From what I've read, I think this could be done by using ODBC. Once that connection is made, will I then be able to use the full functionality of ArcGIS especially read/write functions to edit the information in Oracle Spatial?
What data formats does Oracle Spatial in 10g support. I am concerned about raster data, CAD data, Survey data etc

The shape files can be loaded into Oracle spatial using shp2sdo.exe available on web.To view the GIS data in ArcGIS ,ArcGIS needs the layers to be registered. Therefore you need Arcsde for registering the layers. But for viewing the data in Arcgis we do not need arcsde ,we can view the data using direct connect. For editing the data we can use ODBC connection.
About raster data,we can load tiff, jpeg, bmp, png, gif using georaster tools provided by oracle into georaster tables.

  • About Oracle 10g Data export/import

I have two DBs, let's call them AProd, BAcpt.
all tables/procedures/sequences etc. are defined same, only schema names are different, and the role names are different (e.g. In AProd, role 1 named as AProd_ROLE1, but corresponding role in BAcpt is named as BAcpt_ROLE1).
In order to use Aprod data to refresh BAcpt, in OEM, I established a DB link from BAcpt to Aprod and planned to use "Import from Database" option.
Option 1: By selecting "Schema" -> "Data Only", Import content type =" Import all objects", I am able to refresh BAcpt's tables with AProd's data, however, I can't refresh Sequences, especially the last_number of the sequences.
Option 2: By selecting " Schema" -> "All", Import content type =" Import all objects", I am afraid this will overrite all the roles/privs of BAcpt, and I have to run scripts to recreate BAcpt's roles, and grant those roles to users again...
Is there any better solution for this request?
    Thanks,

    Thank you first.
I did drop and recreate on target DB using source DB's sequences. Extending the original question a bit, if the sequence doesn't exist on target, I guess Option 1 won't bring over the new sequence/procedures from source DB either, correct?
Also for Option 1, It seems the Index also be updated........... Any document I can refer for details? I thought after import data, I need to "rebuild Index online" ... will it still be true ?
    Thank you for any answers:-)

  • Oracle 10g - SCHEMA Export Import

    Hi
I have a query - Whenever there are some changes in Database schema say for eg, New Columns are added, Some New Sequences are created and sundry other changes for an application release - What is the best way to take backup of the DDL so that I can bring the database / it's objects to the same position as they were in before the release?
    Regards
    Kapil

You can take export of the schema. Its not required any downtime.
Also, you take the cold backup and restore it to other server.
Clone the database by RMAN duplication and restore it to other server before making the changes.

  • Is there a way to save and export/import Adobe Reader X printer settings?

I would like to setup printer settings to a specific paper size and other print settings and have several different print profiles that can easily be loaded instead of adjusting settings every time. Then if possible I'd like to be able to save all of them and then load them onto a separate computer running Adobe Reader. Basically I am looking for the functionality that the InDesign print dialogue provides.

We don't have that functionality in the Acrobat Family. InDesign uses the print system from Creative Suite, Acrobat and Adobe Reader do not.

  • Upgrade Oracle Text 8i to 10g

    Hi,
I have to upgrade a database 8i in Sun to Linux 10g, I know that I have to upgrade via export/import but I don't know how to migrate Oracle text.
In the new server I have installed oracle text, but I don't know if i need to make and export/import of CTXSYS user or if I need to recreate all indexes in the new database ...
    Can anyone help me please!?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
it safer to make CTXSYS user in 10g with 10g options, then export and import tables for indexes, then make new indexes. But you have to test it and find if Oracle Text work the same way for you application as on 8i.

  • Oracle 10g and JAWS -- use of Up and Down Arrow keys

We are in the process of converting an Oracle 6i application to 10g and applying Accessibility standards to our application so that it will work with the JAWS screen reader.
The version of JAWS we are using is 7.10.452 Unicode, The Java Access Bridge version required is version 1.2.
THis problem manifests itself when using the UP and Down arrow keys to move between rows in a mutli-record screen.
The problem is that on using either the Up or Down key JAWS read the content of the current field before moving to the new record and announcing the prompt and content.
Has any one got any solution to this.

    Hello Larasoft,
I understand you’re up and down arrow keys are not functioning, is that accurate? I will do all I can to help you with this issue.
I want you to access the setup menu to test the keys out, see instructions below.
    1.       Shut down the computer.
    2.       Locate the F10 key across the top.
    3.       When you turn the computer back on immediately start tapping the F10 key repeatedly.
    4.       If successful you should be on setup utility screen. What’s different about this is you can only use you arrow keys to navigate.
    5.       Try working the arrow keys  up and down on different menus and see if they work.
    6.       Once you tested it press F9 to setup defaults and then press F10 to save and exit.
If I have been helpful or if you’d like to say thanks you can click the white star under my name to give me Kudos.  I really appreciate it.
Please respond at your earliest convenience with you results.
    Thanks
Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!

  • Query to do import and Export for Oracle 10g

For MYSQL we have queries available for import and export
import:-LOAD DATA INFILE 'filename' INTO TABLE tablename FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
export:-SELECT * into OUTFILE 'file name' FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' FROM tablename
Do we have similar query in Oracle which can be executed on SQL * Plus

Is it a feedback opinion you want to get/put ?
If not, then use a proper forum, which you can find somewhere here below :
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=18
Maybe Database General is the one for your question.
By the way, explain where you get the data from (flat file -sqlldr - or dump file -imp -?), and where you want to put the data (flat file - select - or dump file -exp - ?), be sure you know the format of file of your output.

  • Upgrading Stellent 7.5 to OCS 10gR3 Import Process failing HELP NEEDED

    Hi,
I am upgrading Stellent 7.5 to Oracle COntent Server 10gR3. Here is what I have done.
    1. Migrated all the configuration from Stellent to 10gR3

Is there a way to keep the import processing running even if the errors are coming. As it looks like when there are too many errors the import process stops in the middle.
How do I find out the total number of folders and the documents. As I want to run the same query on Stellent 7.5 and find out total number of folders and the documents and then run the same query on 10gR3 and compare the results. Just want to fnd out how much content is imported.
How do I run the import process over again as half of the content is imported and my import process failed in the middle when running the process over again what settings do I need to provide to make sure no duplicates get created etc.
    Any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi
There are a couple of ways to get around the issues that you are facing such that import process is not interrupted because of these. They are as follows :
    1. Use ArchiveReplicationException component . This will keep the import process running and make a log of the failed process which can be used for assessing / gauging the success of the import and what all needs to be redone.
I would suggest this as the option for your case.
    2. Put the config variable for arciver exception to 9999 so that the archive process stops only after hitting the limit of 9999 errors.
I would suggest to go for step 1 as that would be a much more foolproof and methodical way of knowing what all items have failed during import.
    Thanks

  • Export - Import in Oracle Application Database

The export in Oracle Applications Database works fine.
But the import always show some issue and sometimes never completes.
Even if it completes it complete with error , how to ensure an error free export/import ?
How to handle a table movement if the table consists of a LONG column ?

The errors are cannot import this tables..
Also mostly are of Long tables..Any IMP-XXXXX or ORA-XXXXX messages?
Can you explain how long objects are exported and imported ?What type of objects?
    What is the database version?
Are you doing a full database import?
Also sometimes import hangs for 2/3 days?Does it hang when importing a specific object?

  • Issue with Oracle Export/Import

    Hello Oracle,
I m using Oracle Import Utility to Import data .This utility, i m controlling through a C#.Net Application.
But I want to show the time estimation required to complete the Export/Import process in advance just like the windows feature when we are copying files from one place to another.
How can we get time estimation in advance to import the dump file or after analysis of dump file ?
Is Oracle providing any information regarding estimated time required to import the dump in data base.
    Pls guide me.
    Thanks.

But I want to show the time estimation required to
complete the Export/Import process in advance just
like the windows feature when we are copying files
from one place to another. So you want to show the user that it will be another 10 minutes left to complete the export/import, and just when he/she thinks it is nearly complete the time to remaining is reported in some 20+ digit number? ;)
The export and import utilities do not have a method to report the time remaining to complete that I have seen.

  • Export-Import and Naming convention question

    All,
Newbie here. Have a question related to the naming convention for SAP R/3 system and XI manual export/import process. We are currently in the development environment where our R/3 systems are named as D55CLNT400, D56CLNT300 etc (first 3 characters are the system id, and last 3 are the client number.) This is per the XI best practices convention.
The question i have is - if we name the technical system as above - and export the configuration objects from the Dev to Test environment - where the R/3 systems are named as T55CLNT400, T56CLNT300 (similar naming structure). Does it mean that we need to manually change almost all of the items in the Test environment on the configuration side (like business sytem name, interface determination, receiver determination etc)
Is this the correct way or are we missing something??? I would have preferred a way - where we needed to only update the communication channel parameters.
    Thanks.

In the SLD, create three Business System Groups: DEV, QAS and PRD.
In each of these groups, you must have the relevant application servers (in your case, R/3s) and one integration server (XI).
Then, for each Business System in Group DEV, define a transport target in QAS group.
In your case, the transport landscape should be like this:
    D55CLNT400 -> T55CLNT400
    D56CLNT300 -> T56CLNT300
    XI_DEV -> XI_QAS
Do the same for the QAS group (defining transport targets in PRD group). Observe that you need to have the same number of Business Systems in each group for this to work properly.
Now, when you transport your configuration objects from XI_DEV to XI_QAS, all the Business Systems in DEV landscape will be replaced for the equivalent ones in QAS landscape.
