  • Preventive Maint Plan for Similar Equipment

    Dear ALL
I hv 100 similar tpye of equipment. I want to create one maintenance plan for all equipment and want to assign all the equipment in that paln. But problem is when i shedule the plan, plan date is same for all the eqipment but its not possible to comlete all the equipement in single day.
So how i map my all equipment in one maintenance plan when i shedule the plan diffrent plan date occur for different equipment.
    Regards
    Neelam

    hi
For your requirement it will be better if you create seperate maintenance plan for different equipment, since the cycle or counter specified for the maintenance plan is common for all the equipments your planned date will be same .hence it is better to create individual plan for individual equipment

  • Exercise Equipment Interference

This is a weird one! I changed from my iPod to my iPhone for listening to music while I work out at the gym. I use a cardio program on the treadmill which periodically asks me to hold the heart monitor handgrips so that it can adjust speed and grade percentage to maintain the proper heart rate for my age. I have found that the heart monitor function on the LifeFitness brand treadmill goes bonkers whenever I use a data function on my phone (checking email, etc.). I am not holding the grips but the heart rate digital readout suddenly jumps to hummingbird levels! The machine responds by suddenly jumping out of the program and going super slow and flat grade to keep the user from having a heart attack. This happens on all the machines. Bummer. Probably no fix possible on phone side, but the makers of these machines are going to need to build in shielding for these new generation devices.

If all you want to do while exercising is listen to music put the phone in 'Airplane Mode'. That should take care of the problem. It occurs to me that the problem that you are experiencing is not only a danger to you but also a danger to others using similar equipment in the proximity of your phone. Since your purpose for going to the gym is to achieve a good work out perhaps it is best that you not check email while using the equipment.

  • T61 NVIDIA driver not working?

    Hello!
I have a really old T61 (Type 8895) and I updated it to Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit from it's original Windows Vista Home Premium recently, which means all the drivers are gone.
So, I went to Lenovo Support and searched for it's drivers, and one of them was a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M (v296.88) driver.
Each time I try to install it, it tells me: This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.
I decided to get a newer driver. So, I went to NVIDIA's website, got the newest driver (v320.00) and still, it would give me the same error.
So, I googled the problem, still couldn't find the problem I am having.
What is going on? (I need the laptop for some testing before I decide to get a new laptop and waste money)
    Thanks!
    Sincerly,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Your model 8895 doesn't have nVidia graphics, it has integrated Intel graphics but this is a good thing since the nVidia chips sometimes fail on similar equipped models. You want to install the graphic drivers for the Intel GM965 that matches your windows version.
If you want a more detailed explanation, the nVidia chips used in T61 series built before August 2008 sometimes fail resulting an need to replace the motherboard. Your system is a 14.1" with standard 4:3 screen. This size was phased out starting in the end of 2007 and general production stopped about May or June. We've never seen any of this size manufactured in August 2008 so the only way to get a board with a Good nVidia chip on one of these is an extremely rare new replacement board. The supply of these boards has been exhausted for years but there were recently a few found still sealed in the original IBM boxes. These rare boards generally cost about what the used laptop is worth, but are still a good investment considering this is the last and best Thinkpad made before the switch to the widescreen format, it's also the only standard screen model that supports 8gb of ram. Many users retrofit these T61 boards into T60 models too since they had better screen options.

  • Mac mini slow internet repeat

    hi folks,
back again with slow internet on my INtel Mini with Leopard installed. Things ALL worked fine after the upgrade but the last couple of days the internet seemed slow (slow page loading). I posted about this previously and found that Yasu and/or OnyX cleared up some digital garbage and restored performance. However, this time, no such luck. Speed tests show the mini to be slower (33% or less) that a similarly equipped iBook G4.
Intel Mac Mini, Leopard 10.5.1, Firefox, Yasu, OnyX. It's not a DNS issue, pages load similarly with IP addresses or words.
    Any ideas? TIA

    Hiya,
Sorry for leaving out some info, I had this problem before and it was solved by Yasu/Onxy. Recap: Mac mini and IbookG4, very much identical set up. Wirelessly, in same location, iBook is >3Mbps in a speed test when Mini is 1.0 (Ibook closer to airport, over 4). Wired, both are 7-8Mbps. Changed DNS things, no improvement. cleaned caches of Firefox, no improvement. Downloaded Yasu and OnyX, ran through both and bingo, the speed on the mini went to over 3. Now: Several weeks ago, upgraded to leopard. No problems on either computer, but at some point, internet on the mini was again slow. (Ibook getting 3-4, mini getting around 1) Cleaned with yasu and onyx, this time no help. I have been using speedtest.surewest.net but just tried myspeed.visualware.com.
    download 292K 1.4M (2 tests)
    upload 1.7M 2.4
    quality of service 83% 30%
    download test type socket
    upload test type socket
max downlaod pause 594 ms 499
    ave download pause 43ms 9
min rt to server 29ms 23
ave rt to server 66ms 26
I have Comcast cable with internet and a new Vudu box (new internet movie download thing--very nice actually). vudu is a wired connection to the airport. I disconnected the Vudu, that this difference between test one and 2, but I don't think it's the true basis for our slow download numbers. test 3, with Vudu reconnected, 1.4Mbps download, 2.3 upload.
any tips greatly tried and reported back to this thread.

  • Can't view frontview home page of netgear NAS, "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded"

Did a clean install of win XP x64 after a registry problem gone bad. At the same time updated from ff 8.x to the newest 9.0.1 and can at the present not log on to the readynasNV+ from netgear using it's web interface. Also can't view the bitorent page of same machine. On the previous version I got a security pop-up with this but after puting that aside as an exception no further problems with it. I can acces it in IE 6.0 no problem except for similar security pop-ups.

Right, went looking for anything related to 10.0.0135 witch was the adress the working one was on and found that there was an exception in tools, advanced, encryption, certificates, servers tab. Then added an exception for 10.0.0.136 witch resulted in the add exception popup I had in previous versions, one click and it's now working !. Hope this helps anyone experiencing similar trouble for similar equipment.

  • Long render times in Premiere CS6

    Hello everyone.
I am exporting my first ever Premiere show. It is a 82 min. long program, HDV 1080i. Everything is rendered - the entire timeline is green. It took well over 2 hours to render, which seems excessive to me, though I did have filters on almost everything.
In the Export Settings window, both "Match Sequence Settings" and "Use Previews" boxes are checked. I expected that since I already rendered everything, this would mean that the export would go very quickly, as the entire show was essentially rendered already. But, it is halfway done, and already taken 20 min., so looks like 40 min. for the whole thing. Am I doing something wrong? Can I do anything to speed things up? When exporting a similar "pre-rendered" show from Final Cut 7 on this computer, it would take just a few minutes.
My specs: I am on a Mac Pro, 2x3 GHz Quad Core, 8G of RAM. I do have a newer Mac with a faster processor & more RAM, which I am going to experiment with the same project later on. But I still think this is awfully slow on the current computer, at least compared to the performance I got with Final Cut 7.
    Thanks much

If you had a PC I would suggest that you compare your PC with others using Premiere Pro CS6. Take the test at http://www.ppbm5.com and see how you stack up. You might be able to detect any possible bottlenecks from your CPU, GPU, memory or disks.
When comparing your scores, only compare to other CS6 tests. Apparently 5.5 was a bit faster at some things.
I see that I have been knocked down to #3 for CS6 - by three seconds. I think I could reconfigure my drives a bit to match his by using my extra SSD for projects, but I prefer to keep it the way it is as a true hot spare. For now at least.  I don't really know how he got better scores in some of the other categories. I don't think I actually care that much at this point either.
The point I am trying to make though, is that I can see where someone with almost identical specs has arranged things a tiny bit better than I have, as far as speed is concerned. He beats me by 3 seconds, but he bettered me by only one second in two categories, two seconds in another, and I gained a second on him in another.
These results basically tell me to leave well enough alone.
However, if I had seen a 5 second loss on drives, for example, or on RAM, then I would have something solid to consider upgrading.
Take a look at the difference between my #3 (remember to only look at CS6 by checking CS6 in the Version tab) and PCx79 who is 11 seconds slower on the weighted total (so the actual numbers do not add up). One second in the disk i/o so that isn't really a factor. MPEG one second. Nothing there.
H.264 BR is a factor. He lost seven seconds. That is the CPU and probably just reflects the fact that I allowed Eric to overclock my system to 4.5 since we have the same CPU but his is clocked to 3.9. Which demonstrates a LOT of trust on my part because I don't really "get" overclocking but I have decided to trust Eric.
MPE Off was a big difference too. I don't understand this one because he has a slightly better graphics card. It must be more of the overclocking? I don't know.
So, it is fairly easy to spot the advantages of the overclocking of his 3.9 to my 4.5 I think.
Take a look at your scores. If they fall into line with other people who have similar equipment, be happy that you seem to have configured your system correctly. On the other hand, if you see a problem you can't really explain, look there. That is your starting point. Or, perhaps you just give the slow PC to a needy relative and splurge on something new for yourself.
Unfortunately, I don't believe that PPBM5 works for a Mac. Yet. Volunteer to be a beta tester.

  • Does Final Cut Express 4 work with mac mini and other questions...?

I have a few questions I need help in answering... I would appreciate opinions on the following:
I am about to make a purchase of a new mac. I already have a mac mini PPC, but it is too slow...
Here is what I am thinking.
Mac mini, 2GB mem, 160GB hard drive. Will this new mac mini work with Final Cut Express 4?
Or should I go with the more powerful iMac?
I like to make movies on my mac but I hate iMovie 08 so I constantly use iMovie HD 06. Should I go to Final Cut Express 4 or just stick with iMovie HD 06?

There is no doubt that FCE 4 will run on an Intel mini - the GMA graphics processor is compatible. There is also no doubt that an iMac would give you somewhat better overall performance, though it's important perhaps to note that as complex as FCE is, it is actually a little less demanding on hardware than iMovie has traditionally been, so the difference between a mini with 2Gb RAM and a similarly equipped iMac will not be all that great in FCE, though it will become a little more noticeable if you continue to use iMovie 6.
The main reason for the performance difference between iMovie and FCE is that in order to provide a reasonably sophisticated video editing package that will run on very basic hardware, Apple relied heavily on caching techniques, meaning that while FCE basically spools from video and relies on CPU power, iMovie constantly moves data to and from the hard drive. The mini's hard drive is a (relatively) slow device in comparison to the iMac's - thus the iMac runs iMovie rather more seamlessly. In FCE, the difference is, as said, rather less clear unless you were to go for the top-end model.
If your budget can stretch to an iMac it makes sense to go that route simply because the extra power and overall performance (and the better graphics processor) will give you greater flexibility down the road. On the other hand, if funds are tight and you need to spend as little as reasonably possible, a mini will do fine, and is sufficient;y inexpensive that in a couple of years could be sold off and replaced without severe financial implications.
In terms of the choice between FCE or iMovie, beware that if you haven't used FCE before, the transition is not easy, and the learning curve for it is pretty steep. That said, it has far greater power and flexibility in terms of what you can achieve with it than has ever been possible with iMovie.
That said, for casual and home use, iMovie (version 6 at least) has plenty of power and tools for the majority of projects. iMovie 8 is, in many ways, deeply flawed for those who want that sort of power and workflow tools, being that it is designed for quick and easy creation of movies, not creative and considered productions. It has it's uses, but if you have experience with iMovie already, v8 is really not intended for you at all.
All that said, I've used iMovie 6 on systems will a lot less power than the current Intel minis, and have found it stable and workable, so I have no doubt it would work well on any current Mac.

  • Powerbook 12'' Maximum HD?

I am going to buy a 12'' Powerbook on eBay and it comes with an 80gig HD. This is not enough for me and was wondering if it could be fit with a 200 or even 250gig HD or is there a limit?
    Thanks.

Well, just in case anyone else has the same question:
    1) The currently largest capacity hard drive you can install in any Aluminum PowerBook G4 is the Western Digital 250GB 5400RPM hard drive. (I think Hitachi or Toshiba also makes a PATA version).
    2) The currently fastest and largest capacity is a 100GB 7200RPM drive (don't remember which companies make them).
    3) The "best" upgrade, in my opinion, is the Seagate Momentus 160GB 5400.3 hard drive as I've upgraded a former 15-inch PowerBook (the one I got before this 1.67GHz DLSD I'm typing on... my 12-inch is my backup unit now) with it and it's more silent than silent. Not a peep. It's also been tested (not by me, but the pros) to run just as fast, if not faster, than a similarly-equipped 100GB 7200RPM drive due to its "perpendicular recording technology."

  • External SATA recommendations

    All,
Can anyone recommend an external SATA solution for my Powermac G5? I have a card with external ports, but I need advice on the following:
    1. Decent enclosure that will allow spindown of disks
    2. Cables
    3. Disks
The other option would be for a NAS solution, but I don't believe that would be suitable for photography or video editing, but I guess it would be ok for archival storage ?
I'm preferably looking for gear available in the UK and known to work with the G5... Ever since finding out that a WD400GB disk was going to cost me an additional SATA controller, I've been a lot more cautious about this kind of thing

    Wayne,
Your shopping in the same area i have been exploring recently. I'm looking for much more storage, possible with RAID AND backup options. I use Aperture extensively - as extensively as the hopeless and unapgradeable 6600 nVida video card allows. I also have a large itunes collection and do video creation on FC. I need more spindles!
I've settled on the Sonnet E4p PCIe card for my quad offering 4 external SATA ports, and it also support Port Multiplication (PM). PM is a means of clustering bunches of drives physically and connect them to one eSATA port. This particular card £200, supports up to x5 SATA drives per port, thus 20 external drives. However PM is slightly slower than direct connect to each drive. My view is that PM, possibly with RAID within it will be fast enough AND give me a backup option.
After the I/O card there is the choice of enclosure. I have done a lot of reading on what is out there and again i'm falling back to one of two Sonnet products, the 400A and 500P. The former offers x4 SATA drives and supports direct connect to each drive which would make a screaming I/O sub-system. However i also want lots of on-line data capability so speed is not the only priority. This moves me to the 500P enclosure, a x5 SATA PM-only setup. It allows sleep, drive temp monitoring and S.M.A.R.T. What i like about this is i can run a 2-3 drives of 4-500GB SATAII in a fast RAID leaving 3-2 drives for rolling (daily) and (weekly) backup processes as well as one left for x. All within one enclosure. And i still have three eSATA ports to expand on !
AMUG has some good detailed reviews of this and similar equipment:
    http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/home_frame.html
I've not settled on software to run my backups yet, but the above represents my theoritical approach for on-line storage expansion of my Quad. What i am hesitant about is whether i will stick with my mac setup. No matter how much screaming about the lack of video upgrades from Apple, i've been totally hacked-off at the attitude of Apple towards me and others on this Aperture-critical issue. Its a long and very sad story that Apple should be ashamed of. Its 2 days short of 1 year since Apple launched the G5 quad and still they have done NOTHING grrrrrr...
PS One other useful benefit you get from the seperate SATA controller is you can choose and gain from SATA II drives. I'm looking at the WD RE2 drives, 400 or 500GB.
PPS I've been 'stalking' macheaven in the UK, they had the 500P on a ~12% discount, but missed it. Scan seems to have the best prices on drives.
Hope this helps, and appreciate the thoughts of actual eSATA users.

  • Cannon GL2 - FCE 2 and iMovie Capture Problems

    Hello Hello
I've read here that folks are having a tough time capturing with thier Cannon GL2. The device goes from NO problem to 'Can't intiate a capture because the device looses connectivity.
I tried to find a common denominator to this problem, and it seems this post regarding Quick Time Files can help? Yes?
    Is this the main problem?
Anyway I'm also having connectivity issues with both iMovie 6 HD, and FCE 2
Just wondering if I should also follow the directions on this post and have my capture problems solved?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301852
    BTW - I currently have Quicktime 7.0.4
    Thanx

Hi Tom - Thanx for your reply!
Well, yes I have (as my profile indicates), a G5 1.8 Gig, currently with an external Lacie HD plugged in. I also have a Cannon GL2.
But before I go any further, and before I try those directions for cleansing certain Quick Time 7 Library Files, I think I figured out the dilemma.
This problem of GL2 recognition (from what I've read), is common for folks who have similar equipment, and a similar set-up as mine:
It seems (as I've also read here), that my G5 does NOT like 2 devices which require the same connection speed plugged into the 1394 Firewire Port at the same time - trying to share the same bus.
I confirmed this by disconnecting the Lacie FIRST - then booting back up - and WALLAH - the GL2 was certainly receoginzed both in iMovie 6 HD, and FCE 2!
I also further resolved the issue by buying a 'cheaper' Cannon Camcorder - the ZR500.
Now I can actually share the Lacie HD in the Fire Wire Port with this slower connection speed camcorder. And a further benefit is giving my GL2 a rest when it comes to 'capture only'
    Does all this make sense?
If so, perhaps I've already discovered stuff that other folks already know ...
    Thanx
    Mike

  • Crazy to buy a maxed out late 2013 iMac now?

Was waiting to see if there would be any update but alas, no.  Not sure I want to be an early adopter of a retina 27" iMac.  Looking at a nearly maxed out non-retina (aka late 2013) 27" iMac.  Only about $400 less than similar equipped retina model.  Am I crazy or what?   Use is just home computing and home video/photo editing.  I just looked at retina 27 in store. I can see the  difference if I try   I don't see point in waiting for next gen chips either.

I just did something similiar.  I waited and waited for the Retina iMac to be released before I made my final iMac decision.  I was on board for even max'ing out the Retina iMac until I learned it would not support Target Display Mode.  I already own a Macbook Pro w/Retina.  And while I understand not seeing 5k each and every time, I expected (current technology limitations or not) the Target Display Mode to simply reproduce the same resolution as the Macbook Pro when connected via Thunderbolt.
Once I learned that the Retina iMac did not work as a secondary monitor I made my Late-2013 iMac decision.  I understand where you are coming from because I had the same 'fears'.
It kills me to not have the 5k version when it exists, but last year's version (including TDM functionality) fit my day to day needs better.

  • Sprint upgrade question - can I keep SERO plan?

I currently have a smartphone and what used to be called the SERO plan.  I pay $30/month including data, unlimited text, and 500 anytime minutes.  If I upgrade the phone once my contract expires, can I keep the same plan?  I have the protection plan on my phone, which will essentially guarantee me similar equipment forever, but I am interested in some of the new phones out there now.  Thanks.

unsure which part of the reply you are calling untrue, so i'll respond thinking you mean both...
As far as the first part..I'm going by experience.  Before moving to where I am now, I had a Sprint SERO account in charlotte, nc.  When I went to a Best Buy Store to try to upgrade my phone, as well as add a line, the associate asked me for my phone number, and upon entering it, they told me they could not access my account because it was SERO....Just experience...
As for the second part regarding Smartphones... For WebOS, Blackberry,  and Android smartphones Sprint requires an Everything data rate plan(for SERO users they would have to get the Everything Plus Referral data plans) this requirement does not apply to the Windows Mobile OS......

  • Epson Printer Driver Update 2.18 and Stylus Photo 1400

My Mac Mini was unable to communicate with my Epson Stylus Photo 1400 printer, after installing the recent Epson Printer Driver Update 2.18. I am running Mac OS 10.7.5. Reinstalling the original driver from the Epson CD got me back on track, but, a test print from the installer did not work without additional software from Apple's servers. Avoid Update 2.18, if you are using similar equipment.

Since updating to EPSON Printer Software Update 2.18, I have not been able to print to my EPSON Stylus DX6000 (under OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard).  The printer dialog box says
    Error:/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/ MacOs/rastertoescpll failed
Using Time Machine, I restored rastertoescpll.app from a time before I upgraded to the 2.18 drivers, but that didn't work.  I then restored the entire EPSON folder from
    /Library/Printers/
from a time before I upgraded to the 2.18 drivers, and that still didn't work.
I was not able to find the Update 2.17 on the Apple site, but I was able to find it on the www.techspot.com site.
I downloaded EPSON Printer Software Update 2.17 from
    http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/16158/
    This downloaded EPSONPrinterDrivers2.17.dmg
I dragged the EPSON folder to the Trash, and emptied the Trash.  I then ran the installer for the 2.17 drivers.  After switching the printer off and on again, I was finally able to print.

  • Another Airport Express problem thread.

    Hi Everyone,
I got a Powerbook recently and like many on these threads I am beset with Airport Express problems.
Here's my story. I purchased my Powerbook about a month ago and popped into the Apple Store to ask about the best way to have wireless internet access at home. They recommended the D-Link DSL-300T ADSL modem and Airport Express. I purchased these items and set everything up at home. This didn't work. After a week of talking to Apple, I got the answer to my problem from a Mac message board. Supposedly the ADSL modem recommended by Apple and stocked in their online store wasn't compatible with the lastest version of Airport Express 6.2.0. So I dowgraded the firmware to 6.1.1 and everything worked fine. My next problem was after running an OS X software update which I can presume also updated the Airport Express back to 6.2.0. So again I downgrade to 6.1.1 and it works again. Then I have to get my Powerbook replaced as the refurb Apple sold me didn't have the superdrive in it that Apple advertised, so I transfer my settings and files and i can go online for a couple of days and then it stops working again. I do the downgrade again but this doesn't help. So I take it to see a genius at Apple who performs the AE update 2005-001 which he says will solve the problem of incompatability with 3rd party modems. Take it home, it doesn't work. Powerbook almost gets thrown out of the window.
Why is something that should be so simple so difficult.
My questions are does anyone have a D-Link DSL 300T modem that works with the update 2005-001 ???
Why do Apple recommend an ADSL modem which doesn't work with their products ???
What ADSL modem for the UK does work with Airport Express ???

Hi Bollard, not sure whether this would work with the current model of the modem, but I ran into problems with the DSL300+ when first using it wit an airport extreme, back in 2003.
I eventually resolved the problems by using the modem in bridging mode. Not sure if this would be applicable with the new model, or whether it work if you are needing PPPoA rather than PPPoE, but for what its worth my experiences and solution can be found at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607296&#607296 I've had a fair bit of positive feedback from people who found it worked for them, at least with similar equipment and connection protocol.
    Cheers
    Rod
