Comparison Matrix for Logic Express and Logic Pro?

I have looked everywhere for a chart that compares the features between these two products and can't find one.
I am thinking of moving up from Garageband, and leaning toward Logic Express right now.
Is there a comparison matrix somewhere?
Thanks,
Kirk

I don't think so, but you can go to their respective Specs in Apple web-site and make one yourself.
Basically, LE is the same thing as Logic Pro, but with less instrument/effects plugins and less audio/instrument loops content. Also, Logic Studio package has additional tools like Mainstage/Soundtrack Pro, which you may not need.
As a sequencer and 3rd party plugin host LE is as powerful as Logic Pro.

  • Will Logic Express and Logic Pro X co-exist on my Mac?

I use Logic Express. If I buy Logic Pro X can I have both versions on my Mac? I assume I'll eventually move to the new version, but just incase I have issues?
    thanks.

Mate, it will run absolutely fine... But like with most DAW's it will be hosting other plugins, so alot depends on what you have running at once.  But an i5 w/8gb well probably take more than what you will throw at it if you're only just starting out - It's when you get into serious sound and mastering where you need high end processing power.
However, saying that you can bounce down realtime pluging into audio files so that free's your CPU up.  Plus, in my experience Logic is very efficient as it disables plugins etc. when they're not producing sound.
Have you already got an audio interface?
The only issue you will have is screen size on a 13" MBP, i did post a get around to give you more resolution on here a while back, i will try and find it for you - Just incase you need more res.  The Logic X interface is a little 'bigger' so tends to cram on a 13".

  • Logic express and pro 7 to logic studio 9 upgrade question

I have logic express 7, logic studio 7, and just upgraded to logicstudio 9, but my serial number is not recognized. All my copies should be registered with apple already, so how should i best remedy this?

Hi again and thanks for the reply.
I tried to follow your instructions but isn't working still. I think I did something wrong. Here is what I did:
    1. Went to Midi Setup, double clicked on IAC driver and then checked the "device is online" box. It says its on Bus 1.
2a. In pro tools, went to peripherals, at the synchronization tab I left MTC reader port: ANY and put MTC Generator Port: IAC Driver, Bus 1
2b. Then went to the Machine Control tab, enabled MIDI Machine Control and set it to IAC Driver, Bus 1.
3a. In Logic Express I went to preferences>Midi>Sync and selected listen to MMC Input and took Midi Clock off. I see where it says MTC but there isn't a place to make it the slave.
I know I'm not doing this right because I hit play on Pro Tools and Logic Express just laughs at me
Can you help me through this. I'm a novice with Macs and Syncing.
    Thanks again friend.

  • Logic Pro, Logic Studio and Logic Express

Can someone explain the difference between Logic Pro, Logic Studio and Logic Express?

    Hi,
I don't think your friend is right on this. When you install Logic X, only the most essential part will be downloaded. After that you open Logic X, and from within the program  you can download all the other content. Logic will look if you already have Logic 9 content on your harddisk, so it won't download files that are already present. So, after all is downloaded, all files are on your harddisk, just like Logic 9. By the way, Logic 9 will still be available after installing Logic X.
Whether you will experience crashes will be very hard to prodect, because these will be caused by unforeseen combinations of your computer, audio interfaces, maybe even other hardware, kernel extensions etcetera. If you wait for a couple of months, updates of Logic X will probably have less crashes. As said, on my computer it's just as solid as Logic 9.
Garittan will probably advise a fast harddisk to prevent complaints when people are pushing the plugin to the edge. I would expect that it's not a black/white story.
The AUMatrixreverb can be found in any audio plugin slot completely at the bottom: Audio Units > Apple > AUMatrixReverb.
About the Epiano: in Logic Express there is only the Garageband Epiano, I think. Logic Pro 9 had a great ePiano that they gave a new name and changed a bit in Logic X. Both very nice.
Yes, you may be right, not too many drums with brushes in Logic X, I think. Or does anybody else know where to look??
    Kind regards,
    Jaap

  • Logic Express and Roland RD700

I'm new to Logic Express and have been doing quite a bit of online reading, trying to get things set up. I have a PowerBook G4, Logic Express 7, and a Roland RD-700 piano. The Roland keyboard has MIDI in/out and audio out which I've connected to my computer using a MOTU FastLane and M-Audio FireWire Solo respectively. I realize the keyboard can function as a controller (using the sounds that come with LE) or as a sound generator (using the internal sounds). What I'd like to do is to use Logic Express to compose, sequence, arrange, etc songs using the sounds from the keyboard.
Now, I know that I can change the sounds for each of my tracks by using the keyboard itself, but that gets kinda tedious - especially if I'm changing them often to see what works best. What I'd like to be able to do is to use Logic to change the keyboard's sounds... but how?!
I've done some online research, and here is the sum total of my knowledge:
    - I know that my keyboard is a multi-instrument and that it appears in my Logic Environment
    - Each multi-instrument has 16 sub-channels which share the 15 banks assigned to the MI instrument, and that each bank can have 128 preset names
    - I know that each of the sounds in the Roland RD-700 keyboard is described by a unique combination of MSB, LSB, and Program Change numbers
    - I've already copied from rolandus.com a list of all the sounds and their MSB, LSB, PC and I'm ready to paste it somewhere in Logic... but I'm not sure where/how.
And that's about all I've got. I have a feeling that the answer involves using Define Custom Bank Messages somehow, but I haven't found any clear instructions on how to do so.
If you can kindly reply, please try to be as specific/detailed as you can to help the beginning Logic user. Thanks so much!

For a start, this is the Logic Pro forum, not the Logic Express forum, you should have posted there instead.
All the stuff you are asking is in the manual. Read the sub-sections which speak about Multi instruments, particularly the section on the Multi Instrument Window (page 168).
You may, or may not, need to use Custom bank messages. It depends on whether the RD700's bank select scheme complies with the preset bank-select settings that are available in the Multi Instrument Window. (try the various roland presets in the bank select list first, and see if they address all the banks correctly)
Use the 'paste all names' command to paste the patch lists in the Multi Instrument Window, a bank at a time.

  • Garageband Files on Logic Express and vice versa

My daughter uses Logic Express at school (sorry, I don't know which version). She has been trying to do her homework on our eMac (OS 10.3.9) using Garageband 1 and her M-Audio midi/usb keyboard via USB.
Her teacher says that Garageband files should work fine with Logic Express and vice versa.
The problem is they don't. We have tried importing files, also saving in one programme and opening in the other - all to no avail.
Presumably we are doing something wrong somewhere. Does anyone know how to get Logic Express to use Garageband 1 files and vice versa, please?
One more point of information, she saves the files to a 'PikaOne Slim Flycase' 40gb Portable HD to take to school to use on an Apple Laptop type computer (Powerbook?). Both home and school machines appear to be working perfectly with this device.
She also has some software called 'Logic Hit Kit' but I don't think this is has anything to do with Logic Express. It's files do not work with Logic Express either

That is correct, and you still have your level
status, it just doesn't show. I read in The Lounge
(for level 4 & 5) that they were planning to return
the level status and custom icons to the forum. But
it has been a long time now, and they haven't. I miss
    my custom icon
Yes, apparently they intend to at some point. But, they have more pressing things to attend to first, so it might be a while. I have discovered that there's a special forum about this.

  • Help Required Please with Logic Express and Yamaha O1X

Hi, I'm a new Logic and Mac user. I have just installed Logic Express and I am trying to get my Yamaha O1X mixer/ interface to work. I have the MLAN Tools installed and I can load a demo song into Logic. The meters on my Mixer are moving, I just cannot hear any sound. Doesanyone know the correct way to set this up to work correctly??
I Mac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Intel Dual Core 2.46 Ghz with 2GB Ram

    Answer these questions for me:
Is the Monitor A/B switch green or off?
Do you have the faders 1/2 raised on the 01X in the INST tab, and is the Stereo fader raised?
Where is your amp/speakers connected to on the O1X?
Should be connected to monitor L/R out with the A/B switch off (not green).
If you load the logic demo are the meters moving?
Is Logic selected as your DAW on the O1X utility tab?
In your AMS settings....MLAN should be selected for the inputs and outputs
    Make sure you did This!!!!
To monitor your computer's audio outs via the 01X go to the surface of the 01X. In the upper right click INTERNAL MODE (2nd button from left, top of the 01x next to REMOTE).
Go to the right of the 01x there are 5 white buttons for
AUDIO/INST/MIDI/BUS/AUX/OTHER. Choose INST - bring up the faders on Channels 1 and 2. Pan them left and right by clicking PAN (one the surface of the 01X in the PAGE area once, then using the knobs beneath the green screen mLAN 1 and mLAN 2 and spinning the knobs left and right), and control your master volume with the master fader. Use the headphone volume to adjust output level.
Very important......if you did all of this, play a song from itunes see if there is audio if not you have something connected wrong.
If you get it from itunes and not logic....then we need to look at logic!
You need to run logics setup assitant and make sure in the controller setup the O1X is showing! Click rebuild defaults in the controller tab of logic....you should see the faders move!
let me know....i will stick with ya till we get it working.

  • Final Cut Express and logic control

    Hi,
has anyone ever achieved to combine final cut express and logic control?
I'm a logic audio user and Iwould be greatful to influence major features of final cut with the controller "logic control XT" and let them work together.
Thanks for your help and ideas!
    Alex

    No. FCE has no mixer.

  • I have East/West Symphony.  Will it work with Logic express and do I have to have that little red usb drive in the computer to authorize it?

    I have East/West Symphony.
Will it work with Logic express and do I have to have that little red usb drive in the computer to authorize it?
Also, would it work with Garageband??

Thanks-that's the same driver I'm using now.
The M-audio techs were unable to tell me if Quattro would work with LE8, so I've been wasting my time and money trying to make it work.
They also gave me conflicting opinions as to whether or not "tip" polarity was an issue when using an after-market adapter. One said definitely yes, one or two others said definitely no.
Their phone tech line has a 20 to 40 minute wait when I call. The online support system is confusing, which even they admit. I don't think my next interface will be from M-audio.
Thanks very much for the response, it helps me get beyond this phase.
Is the Quattro of any use for anybody else (i.e., can I sell it or give it away)?

  • I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am

I am traveling with my macbook pro and I forgot to install final cut express and quicktime pro before I left. How can I in a way download them for free on my laptop from where I am? I need them and don't want naturally to buy them again!!!
    Thank you

Assuming you purchased QT Pro, you can always download it again at no extra charge by logging in to your Apple account.
Regarding FCE, there is no way to download & install the product.  You need an original FCE install disk and your FCE serial number.
Final Cut Pro X (aka FCPX) can be purchased & downloaded from the App Store.

  • Logic Express and Silent Violins ...

    Hi all,
I am new to Logic Express and try to explore it's capabilities ...
My endpoint is this: I want to be able to record a silent violin (normal analog audio output) directly as a MIDI file onto Logic Express.
I have searched the net, but have been unable sofar to find a solution. Is it possible at all? Is there a plug-in that converts WAV.files straight into MIDI as you record?
Or is there any other hardware or software based possibility?
There used to be a company by the name ZETA which produced violins with their own proprietory MIDI converter. Problem is, they are out of business and their MIDI converter was only working with their own instruments. I am looking to use a Yamaha Silent Violin to achieve that.
    All help is greatly appreciated!
    nickler66

    Hi,
there's an onboard solution from Logic: Open you recorded Audio in the sample editor. Select Factory -> audio to score. Depending on your audio material, you must fiddle around with the settings to get an acceptable result. The engine will generate a MIDI region overlapping your audio file. Drag it to a software instrument track to test the results.
Otherwise, i would recommend the Roland GK3 Guitar to MIDI converter pickup. I don't know if it works with a violin as well, but i heard of other people using it. Cost around 150-200$

  • What are advantage and disadvantage for Physical Standy and Logical Standby

    HI,
What are advantage and disadvantage for Physical Standy and Logical Standby configuration?
    Thanks
    Ken

    Logical standby database
The key advantage for logical standby databases is that they're opened read/write, even while they're in
applied mode. That is, they can be used to generate reports and the like. It is indeed a fully functional
database. Also, additional indexes, materialized views and so on can be created.
However (this being a disadvantage) not all datatypes are supported.
Oracle (or more exactly the log apply services) uses the primary database's redo log, transforms them into
SQL statements and replays them on the logical standby database.
    Physical standby database
A physical standby database is a byte for byte exact copy of the primary database. This also means that
rowids stay the same in a physical standby database environment.
Oracle (or more exactly the log apply services) uses the primary database's redo log to recover the
    physical database.
A physical standby database might be opened read only; however, the received logs are in this case not
applied. When the logs are applied, the database is not accessible (it is then in a managed recovery state).

  • Logical Switch and Logical Network

Hello All...................I have Hyper-V Failover Cluster based on 5 Hosts and I am managing it with VMM 2012 R2. I was slightly confused with respect to Logical Network and Logical Switch in the Fabric Settings.  I would appreciate if someone could
shed a little light on the difference between them.  Also, while there is a Logical Network defined by default (Name of the Virtual Switch of Hosts), there is nothing defined in the Logical Switch.  Which one is mandatory? Logical Network or Logical
Switch? Can I delete the default Logical Network?

    Hi Nick,
Please find below link for the whitepaper mentioned by Kristian.
    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/Hybrid-Cloud-with-NVGRE-aa6e1e9a
For a complete reference please refer below series. This covers VMM 2012 SP1 but should be fine with R2 as well.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/scvmm/archive/2013/01/08/virtual-networking-in-vmm-2012-sp1.aspx
Logical Network is defined for easier management and used in Network Virtualization where as Logical switch is used to configure networking in multiple Hosts rather than creating individual Virtual switches in each host. If it were me I'll leave the
default logical network as there is no harm of doing nothing in it.
I hope this will shed some light into your situation.

  • Compatibility Matrix for Reader X and Acrobat?

I've scoured adobe.com and can't find a compatibility matrix for Reader X and different versions of Acrobat.  Does someone have a link?

Indeed they're not - we haven't got an updated version yet, but the rules are effectively the same as for 9:
Acrobat X can coexist with Adobe Reader 5 through X
Acrobat X cannot safely coexist with another version of Acrobat, nor can Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Standard safely coexist*
Acrobat X and Reader X both contain an option under Preferences to choose which is the default PDF handler.
*On Windows you cannot install Acrobat X without uninstalling all previous copies of Acrobat. On OS X you can force the install to run, but you're destined to see strange effects.
