Comparison Muse - others (wordpress)

Hello
I've learned Muse and I am happy with that. Sometimes though I have some doubts:
My costumer want to do changes in the site. In Muse, as I understand it, the costumer can change all text and pictures, but not add a new page or change layout. Right? How is it in WP? Others?
My costumer wants a responsive site. Well, that is not possible in Muse, but how is it in WP?
My costumer is not positive to the solution on phone and tablet. I have some problem to make the phone site so it i compatible with the different sizes on phones, from small iPhone5 to new big Samsung. Any tips and trix? How does it work in WP?
Hope someone can give me some answer.
Anders

Muse can create responsive designs, so I'm not sure what you are asking. Of course the specifics will depend on which templates, widgets and so on you use. This is the same with your question about phone and tablet support. It's all up to you. The rest is not really relevant. Even dynamic systems like Wordpress or Joomla do not allow arbitrary changes outside their configuration backends and themes. If e.g. an image hasn't been declared as a placeholder by the site administrator, users can't change it, either. Of course things like adding pages and so on can be done more easily once the dynamic system has been set up and configured since it's done via a database, but if your client has no knowledge of these things, none of this matters. He still won't be able to do it. The simple truth is that your "customer" will have to learn a specific interface one way or the other.

  • Muse or Wordpress?

I just started to learn Muse and it feels good since I'm used to working in InDesign. Now I wonder if it's just me who can change the website when uploaded? In WordPress, anyone who has logged on can edit text and pictures. Must I learn both Muse and WordPress? Grateful for advice since I am not a hacker, I am just a designer. I have no plans, for now, to do big websites, just smaller for small clients.

It all depends what you want to do, really.
If you plan to do a simple website where you don't need to have other users and manage loads of contents, make a comunity, have a backend and grant access to other people that work with you, then maybe you should use muse
For more complex websites you could use wordpress and add some plugins, themes, etc.
But if you use wordpress you need to learn how to code a bit if you want to change certain things in the layout.
You can also learn to use dreamweaver that can help a lot.

  • Comparison with other authoring tools

Most of the time people get into one authoring tool like Encore, DVD Studio Pro, Sonic Solutions Authoring packages, ...
    I have the feeling with Encore 2.0 that it is not a professional package (but of course I could be wrong);
a lot of possibilities, but not reliable and the result is not very professional.
    Subtitles don't look too great,
a lot of bugs, really a lot,
    seamless transitions between animited menus,
I'm curious to hear comparisons with other solutions which are professional, to orient and know more about the differences and similarities.
    DaLuna

    DVDit is ghastly.
Encore is based on Sonic's DVD Producer, but has had a lot more of the options "Switched on" in the Authorcore. Plus of course it has a far better GUI compared to the Sonic one.
Scenarist is seriously good, but seriously expensive, and as it is not an abstraction layer tool, it has it's own unique issues as well.
If you want to try your hand with the scripting side of things, then you should have a look at DVD-Lab Pro.
It's about to go to version 2, which will include goodies like Multi angle, Button Over Video, that sort of thing.
It's only drawbacks compared to Encore are:
    1 - No DLT output.
2 - No built-in Transcoding. You MUST feed it with DVD compliant assets.
    3 - Poor PSD support
4 - No integration with other Adobe products
BUT, it is well worth a look at $200

  • Muse vs Wordpress for Real Estate site?

I need to make a fairly complex site for a real estate developer who has several subdivisions and offers extensive services.  I would love to use Muse for the design flexibility, but I can't find how I can make a searchable database of properties that the site owner could update.
Do I really need to use Wordpress to accomplish this?!

    Hi
With Muse you can design the site , regarding content management this is done on hosting platform where you host the site as you avail the crm/cms feature where clients can manage the contents.
You can use any hosting platform like wordpress or Business Catalyst, where we publish the site and then manage cms from site backend.
Let me know if you need more details.
    Thanks,

  • Muse vs Wordpress

I am familiar with Muse and love it. My partner is familiar with Wordpress. Neither one of us are web designers. Can someone help me with the pros and cons of each?
    Thanks,

    Hi
Muse can be used to design websites without use of any coding knowledge , this is specifically designed for non-coder users who can now create the sites and pages without touch of codes.
Wordpress on other hand has its own specifications but is not similar to Muse.
This would really depend on what exactly you are trying to create, as you have mentioned that you are not a coder so I would suggest you to download and install Muse , create sample sites with trial version.
Some links where users have pointed out specifications :

  • Can Muse host Wordpress?

I have a Muse website and I've seen in one of the tutorials a basic how to create blog menu option that redirects the user to a blog (outside of business catalyst). I want to begin using Wordpress for my blog, but in order to do so, Wordpress says I need to find a web host that supports Wordpress. Do I need to find another hosting site (i.e. GoDaddy.com) to do this; or can I use Muse as my hosting site? Thanks.

    Hi Crystalstar
Muse is a designing software. It is not a hosting platform. You can't host sites with muse. However, you can host sites with Business Catalyst. If you choose to host sites with BC, you can create your blog on BC itself. For more info on BC features, please refer to the following link : http://www.businesscatalyst.com/features

A ananlyser )

  • Apex Reports - Comparison to other products Company Reporting tools...

    Hey Apex users.
    Quick Question.
I'd like to do a quick comparison on the report tools and reporting environments that are out there and available to the public.
When picking a reporting tool, to do Reports for users and to have users build reports inside that selected tool.
    Which tool would you use?
Does anyone know of or have any comparison white pages showing the differences between,
XML Publisher, Business Objects (Crystal Reports), Actuate reporting, Cognos Reporting, Oracle Apex reporting?
These are just a few of the major reporting products available.
Their might be even more reporting tools not listed here.
I know that everything I've listed here, are all different tools provided by different companies. But I'd like to here some of your feedback, on your experience when working these different technologies.
    Let me know thanks.

    Hey Ben
I did miss that tool I'll have to read up on that one. It looks quite interesting.
I'm all about empowering or encouraging users to build their own reports. I don't want to recommend or implement a solution that always requires an IT go to person for the report. With which ever tool is selected, I don't want to see the need for an IT person or an IT dept to be report developers and report publishers. I will admit that you need to have a sql expert on that system that your reporting from, in case the end report developer has a technical question.
But my goal is to see the client develop their own reports.
I'm planning on recommending and implementing a solution that permits the power users/clients to develop their own reports.
I hoping that the solution will not be to IT labor intensive to implement.
The end client should be able administrate the website or portal etc and administrate all the access to the reports and the access to the different systems the tool is connected too. etc.
    Thanks Ben for the feedback.

  • Why curves in ACR acts so different in comparison on other programms?

Similar question I made in LR forum but realize that in here more suitable place.
"Does anybody knows, why Adobe made adjustment of curves in lightroom so different in comparison of curves Photoshop? I mean not of adjustment method, but colour shifts. Darkening by curves in LR makes skin tones very dirty yellow-orange, while photoshop's tends to red, and when lightening in LR skin tones becomes _unpleasant_ pink-orange while in PS becomes acceptable uniform yellow hue. This I checked on the same file (tif). Differenses of colours shifts (LR vs PS) happens even while adjust other sliders, such as brightness and contrast, for example"
As to my taste and preferences, I dont like LR behaviour.
ps. In attachment you can see huge differences. Question is why? For what reason? And will I got this in future versions?
pps. camera profiles and untwisted variants of them have not relation to this behaviour.

    >Sounds like you're using and comparing other image editors as a profiling device for your camera that just happens to make your edits fit your taste in color. That's not a recipe for consistency.
Simply I often used curves in PS and when LR has appeared I expected same behavior of curves. I have mistaken.
I see that many PS actions like TRA or Kubbota`s uses this property of PS curves (skin tones darkening shifts to red, lightnening shifts to yellow) to make photos great/pop looking. But I do not want to use PS. Again it requires making aside tiff.
    >You're going to have to do some adjustments on every image.
Yes. But most light still incandescent: concerts, private rooms, cafes.
    >You might try quick adjustments to the orange and/or yellow sliders in the Hue panel in LR's HSL panel. That's what I have to do to get that reddish hue to skin.
Yes, I do this, but when I touch curves on opposite side I have to adjust hue sliders again. This is not very quick. But for this case I have made many presets of HSL sliders for different curves and simply apply them
    >Why not profile the camera shooting Raw under these lights using an X-rite color chart and the DNG Profile Editor or some other camera profiling package?
I will repeat again (do not take offence): Curves still act the same way in spite of right colors achieved by this calibration.
    >They seem to lean toward a reddish rendering with better definition out of the box which isn't accurate but is pleasing.
I will read about this technology. Thank you.
In case I have to get correct/right colors now I use self made icc profiles by X-Rite Colormunki device and freeware profiling software (argyll) and custom made color checker with at least 108 patches instead of standard 24. But I have to follow these conditions: 1. Same light. 2. Same settings in developing software (that means I cannot touch any curve, contrast, hue and other sliders therefore why to use LR in general? ). 3. Developing program must operate with icc profile (sadly LR can't do this).
Some addition information about right and pleasant colours: Now I have Canon`s SLR camera, but very love nikon`s colours (camera profiles). By dng profile editor I have applied for my cr2 files nikon's camera profiles and have got truly nikon`s colors without buying nikon camera. Colours exactly the same as in Capture NX in default settings until I start to adjust contrast, curves in LR...
    >Also you might try Lightroom 3 Beta which has a new preview rendering algorithm which might include the color effect you see in Photoshop.
I have tried LR3 for a long time ago but see it still have same algorithm of curves and contrast. May be developers add in final release some color manage preferences for choosing working colour space or so.

  • When will Muse add Wordpress blogging capabilities?

I am looking for a way to add blogging components to a site I am building. First to have a blog page within the site and second to have three of the most recent posts displayed horizontally on the home page.
    Any suggestions?

And as everyone knows it's impossible to put an "Enable Sound" button on the page along with a volume slider, for if there's sound it MUST be played at full volume with no means of turning it off, right?  I mean, if web sounds went out of style 10 years ago then that's it, nobody can ever use sounds again.  Anyone who wants to make web pages for blind friends, musical training sites for children, spoken word translations or explorable soundscapes should all just go to hell because nobody can ever learn from the mistakes of the past.  If something failed ten years ago then it's doomed to fail for all eternity.
*Sheesh*  Have you ever considered using your imagination instead of knee-jerking?  In case you haven't noticed, things are very different now than they were ten years ago.  People want to do creative things with their websites, even some things that require sounds (heaven forbid!) and music (nobody wants to hear music).
So here's hoping the Muse team tells you to go to hell and ignores you forever more because you're wrong in your assumptions and, as you've just declared, once wrong you can never be right.
But having said that, I've worked with numerous people on all those projects listed above and while Edge allows sound it's not easy and really bottlenecks the creative process.  Especially annoying when I can sit down with others and whip up the site designs and graphic elements in minutes but sounds are excluded entirely until much later.

  • Where does labVIEW stand with comparison to other programming techniques

    Hi everybody,
Just for discussion sake , If we compare LabVIEW to other C/C++, Java and .NET technologies, where does it stand?
    cheers !!
    -Alok
    -AL☼K

This was discussed more than once (you can search the forums), but some of the main points:
    1. LV has a much lower learning curve. Not having to deal with syntax (as much), memory handling and such and having the program do stuff automatically for you (like express VIs) makes it much easier to start programming in. Also, many people find the flowchart-like dataflow paradigm to be easier to understand and follow and LV code easier to read and more aesthetically pleasing. The downside is that people don't realize that writing more complex programs requires some more experience and usually start turning here when they have problems. When writing large programs in LV, you have to understand a lot about how it works internally, because you have less control.
    2. The execution of LV in general is not as fast as an optimized C program, but it can be around the area of regular programs. LV doesn't do some stuff as well as C.
    3. .net is supported mainly on windows. LV code, to a degree, is portable to windows, mac, linux, palm, win CE, embedded chips and Real Time systems.

  • Need comparison with other Remote products

    Hello everyone,
I need to advise my supervisor why we should use ARD over something else like Timbuktu.
I've got several hundred users on internal and external networks.
Anyone with knowledge of both products or other remote software ?
    Mitch

I've been very busy and haven't been here in a while, myself. Maybe others are busy, too. Patience is a virtue!
I have been a long time user of Timbuktu for Mac and Windows but am relatively new to ARD (couple months). My experience with Timbuktu, however, does not include the latest version, but up through v. 7.04.
Both utilities do things the others don't. For one-on-one support, I prefer Timbuktu, because it has the ability to easily transfer files from your computer to the host. You can do it with ARD, but not as point/click seamlessly. You can also open up a voice chat with TB2, so it is good for teaching people how to do things. TB2 is comparitively expensive, though-- you can get an unlimited client ARD for $499 ($299 educational).
I manage a lab of eMacs in a school and could not imaging doing it with TB2 after using ARD. Installing updates is a breeze, getting the whole lab or selected computers to sleep, wake up, restart, lock screen, etc. is super easy (not even possible with TB2 to wake a sleeping computer, I think). You can send Terminal-style Unix scripts to all or selected computers, as well, and I am just learning the true power of this.
The students have a limited account on the computers that I can just leave them to do (destroy) as they please, and with a couple clicks, a new, blank, pristine Student account is pushed out to the lab whenever necessary.
Viewing select or multiple screens is also super easy to keep an eye on what students are doing.
In short, they are really completely different animals, TB2 and ARD. I am glad we have them both!

  • Integrating Wordpress into Muse need dynamic height based on content with cross domain

Since Muse doesn't currently support Blogs and Wordpress integration I have decided to use an iFrame.
My goal is to have the height of the iframe dynamically change based on the content in my Wordpress blog. I understand this is a common issue with frames that are hosted on different domains.
I am running into having to over compensate with a bunch of deadspace to allow enough room. Alternatively I get the horrible looking scroll bar.
I have tried using cross site scripting, JQuery and postMessage but am having trouble figuring out how to put the proper code into Muse and Wordpress for them to communicate back and forth.
Please, any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Abhishek,
Thanks for your reply, however, it is not working with Muse. I added the Javascript to the head section and adjusted iframe and it displays as a small square in the upper left hand corner, unable to view the whole page.
    Inserted into head section --
    <script type="text/javascript">
       function resizeIframe(obj)
      obj.style.height = 0;
      obj.style.height = obj.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight + 'px';
       </script>
inserted as an html object --
    <iframe name="MycoSmooth" src="http://www.mycosmooth.com" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" id="iframe" onload='javascript:resizeIframe(this);' />
    Below is the result:
The purpose is to have an independent website run the blogging capabilities, since muse doesn't directly support blogging as of yet.
Since the site is on a different domain, I am running into cross domain issues and it won't get the height of the page. The methods that apparently work use php and I am unsure how that would work in muse, if at all.
