Comparison of Imperva to Oracle

Has anyone compared Imperva SecureSphere Database Security Products with Oracle's Audit Vault Database Firewall? Looking for something that would show the pro's/con's of each product for comparison purposes? Can you list the differences/advantages? Are we talking about products in the same protection arena or do they provide security at different levels and really are not meant to be compared?

The best way to get an objective comparison would be to look on NI's site for "New Features". I guess you would have to look at the new features for LV 10 and 11, too.

Comparison of dates using Oracle Business Rule

Hi to everyone! I have a business rule that has as input parameter a complex attribute with a date field inside named expiration. I want to compare the expiration field with the current date using a comparison function. I don't know where find the current date. The function Calendar.getInstance() return the current date? Any help we'll' be highly appreciated.

Calendar.getInstance() will give you the current date, and to find out the days between two dates; use Duration.days between(date1, date2) + 1

Creating directories for installing Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2

Hi,
I have Red Hat Linux 4.0 and i am trying to install OAS 10.2.0 Enterprise Edition which includes web tier, app tier and database tier all in server machine because i do have about 100GB disk space, 12 GB memory and 9 GB swap space.
Now, i read the OAS installation documents which i got from oracle.com
as well as i read OAS installation chapters from the OAS books i purchased from oracle press.
now each documentation guides us to create different folders with different names for installinmg the AS. these are the list of directories i got from both these documentations.
for Inventory:
/home/oracle/oraInventory
/opt/oracle/oraInventory
for Infrastructur instance:
/opt/oracle/oraInfra
/u01/oracle/infra1012
for Database files:
/u01/oracle/infra1012/datafiles
/opt/oracle/oraInfra/datafiles
for BI and Forms:
/opt/oracle
/u02/oracle
and from above comparisons which one is oracle recommended default directory name that i should create for my installation.
also what path should i give for ORACLE_HOME. is it
/home/oracle/product or
/opt/oracle
Can someone please guide me with creating the correct recommended directories for installaing OAS10.1.2.
Or can i go ahead and create my own directory names for the installation.

Basically it's up to you how to design the directory structure.
What I normally do on my VMWare instances where I run RedHat is one directory in the home dir of the Oracle user.
So I have:
/home/oracle
In there one directory for the software called products
/home/oracle/products
When I have several ORACLE_HOME's they get their own dir in the above directory, for example:
/home/oracle/products/db102
/home/oracle/products/as101202infra
/home/oracle/products/as101202mid
/home/oracle/products/as10131soa
and so on.
When dealing with installation at customers I adhere to their standard which is normally based on OFA. Search for OFA on the internet and you get the reason why you see so many differnet directories in the docs and books.

Oracle - Show tables - Short result

Hi,
Thank you for reading my post.
Here is my question:
When I execute the following command:
SQLPLUS>> select * from tab;
I get 4201 rows.
The database I am using is "demobld.sql".
This database contains - among the above huge number of tables -
the following tables:
- EMP,
- DEPT,
- BONUS,
- SALGRADE,
- DUMMY.
I am looking for a command (like "SHOW TABLES" in MySQL) which
would show me these tables only.
Can you tell me how to do that?

If so, I think you are wrong :) : why?
1) because it is normal for someone to try to use one's previous knowledge in the
database field, not doing so would be silly and waste ;
2) and moreover, I DO think it is interesting to compare one DB features to another.
I wish I had found a good comparison between MySQL and Oracle.
It would have helped me a lot.

Difference between Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition for Oracle RAC

Hi,
In our current setup we have RAC on standard edition and client is now planning to go for Enterprise Edition but not yet decide because of cost.
Is there any difference between Grid Infrastructure 11gR3 Enterprise edition and Standard Edition ?
They told me to first install Enterprise Edition and then will move to Standard Edition if they can't get the EE license so in that case do i have to re-install Grid infrastructure for standard edition?

There is no "Grid Infrastructure 11gR3 Enterprise edition and Standard Edition", is only Grid Infrastructure 11gR2.

Database Item not getting saved in DB

I have an Database Block say 'Commercials' ,in which there are 15 database items. I enter value in these items and save the values in DB. But the requirement is, upon updation of the values enterd in any one of the 15 items, it should not get updated in DB, instead a new set of values with a new primary key should be inserted into the DB as a new row. To do so, an package is called in the Key commit trigger and in ON-UPDATE trigger, i give null there, inorder to avoid updation of values in the same record.
The above scenario works perfectly. Now, I add an new column in DB (as 16th column in Block). I need only this specific column to get updated.
When i put fnd_message on execution, it fires in the key-commit and says 1 record is applied and saved. But it is not saving in DB. especially that 16th column is not getting updated in DB.
While updating the record, The flow of trigger moves to On- Update through Key-commit..
What can be given in the On-update trigger to make the 16th column to get saved in DB.

Can you please show us what code you have written in your On-Update trigger?
Just thinking through the process, I would expect to see some checks to see which columns have been updated so you can determine whether to create a new record (column 1-15) or update an existing record (column 16). To do this type of thing, you will need to compare the Current Value of the column to the value that was fetched from the database. Unfortunately, Forms does not have a System Variable that records the status of each item like it does the Record, Block or Form status so you have to perform this comparison yourself. Thankfully, Oracle Forms does have a built-in that will help with this; GET_ITEM_PROPERTY('ITEM_NAME', DATABASE_VALUE). The DATABASE_VALUE property returns the value that was originally fetched from the database. Your comparison would look something like:
IF ( :YOUR_BLOCK.YOUR_ITEM1-15 != (Get_Item_Property('YOUR_BLOCK.YOUR_ITEM1-15',DATABASE_VALUE)) THEN
--Column value has changed...If Column 1-15, insert a new record
--If Column 16, Udpated existing record...
END IF;
This is a very simplistic example, but hopefully it will demonstrate what you need to do. After that, it is simply writting the DML to INSERT or UPDATE the appropriate record.

1. is it good to have jsp in screenflows or if we can manage it outside BPM also with same effect
2. How is the BPM database structured. Is the PAPI API's avaialble to get all the desired information from it.
3. Is notes/attachments/audits managed in BPM database or if we can manage it in external db also.. how to access these from java if it can be managed in BPM db.

They are built in as part of the product and you'll be facing a ton of work trying to duplicate this functionality outside.
2. How is the BPM database structured. Is the PAPI API's avaialble to get all the desired information from it.Unless it's a project variable or a variable that is marked as "Separated", the instance variables are stored in a single blob in a row in the Engine's database. PAPI can retrieve the instance variable information (I posted something on how to do this a while back on this forum and can find it if you need it).

Is notes/attachments/audits managed in BPM database or if we can manage it in external db also.. how to access these from java if it can be managed in BPM db.The out of the box notes and attachments are also stored as part of the blob. On the project I'm currently on, the customer wanted the attachments stored separately in an external database so we did not use the out of the box attachments. They wanted what they call "tasks" stored in a separate database. These tasks were for ad hoc queries to send a question to any department / user and then store the history of responses and routing.
4. What are the pro's and cons of PAPI vs JMSSorry - you lost me here. Sure someone else will pick up on the comparison between the API Oracle BPM uses and JMS, but I'm not getting it.

I ran "db_verify" and the message shows "DB_VERIFY_BAD: Database verification failed" error. Does anyone know what causes the problem? How to solve the problem?

Hi Agnes,
There is no problem with your database, you have been running db_verify without the -o option, and therefore db_verify checks for the btree sort order as well. Run the db_verify utility with the -o option to ignore the database sort ordering:

Here's a simplified query that returns results based on two simple conditions:
1) contact's not being null
2) value of col orders.agn equal to col accounts.acnt_name
SELECT o.c_name, o.adv, o.agn,

Nothing spectacular...but I get a row that I shouldn't be getting...
There's an accounts.acnt_name = 'Pepsi' and there's an orders.agn = 'PEPSI'.
Oracle is case-sensitive, so how come this happens?

Check your NLS_COMP and NLS_SORT parameters.
SQL> select * from dual where 'pepSi'='PEPSI';
