Comparison of photoshop to photoshop elements

What is the difference between photoshop and photoshop elements? I have photoshop elements 9.

I'm not a professional but have Photoshop. I use Photoshop vs Elements because I tend to be a control freak. I also like making my own creative elements. I like the flexibility of having lots of options at my fingertips. I also like being able to automate tasks I usually perform on every photo. I use actions that I recorded to do these tasks which is a real time saver and I don't have to remember all of the steps. I use keyboard shortcuts all the time so having more shortcuts available and being able to set my own is a big deal to me.  Admittedly, I don't use all of the features in Photoshop but it's so feature rich I still feel I got my bang for my buck.
FYI, Elements is built more for the hobbyist and it's user interface is considered by many to be more user friendly. It also includes some quick fixes that aren't in Photoshop. Some of the tools are built to make it easier for the hobbyist like the cookie cutter...it's kind of a quick fix in itself. You also get an Organizer that includes some project templates, etc. You don't get that with Photoshop. You get Bridge which is very nice but it's not an Organizer. I prefer Bridge but many people enjoy using Organizer to arrange their images digital photo albums. I've seen several posts that indicate there are quite a few that buy Photoshop and Photoshop Elements just to use the Organizer feature. There are also people that have purchased Photoshop and refuse to use it because they like Elements more.
If on the fence, you could always do a trial of Photoshop. If I were you, I would go ahead and enjoy PSE 9 for now and learn everything you can. I started by using Elements and that made the transition to Photoshop easier because I was able to use everything I learned in Elements in Photoshop. I think this was a good path as it kept what I learned focused to the a basic tool set. Photoshop has so many options it can be intimidating to someone with no prior feel for the basics. This forum is also an excellent resource. The Photoshop forum can be a bit cold in comparison.  I consider helping people out on this forum as kind of a payback as without this forum I would not have stuck with Photoshop Elements and learned all of the things that I currently know.
Here are a couple of articles that compare PSE 9 to CS 5.

*If you decide to upgrade at some point, Adobe usually offers deals to upgrade to Photoshop Standard full at least once per year either through e-mail or post card. If you own a Wacom tablet and it's registered, you can also get a good deal on Photoshop Standard full using it's Priviliges program. BEWARE of buying a copy off e-bay...lots of people get ripped off with authentic looking pirated copies that do not function correctly. Be sure to buy a full version and not an upgrade version. Note: Upgrades currently only work if you have a full version of Photoshop that is no older than three versions back.

  • Comparing Photoshop CS2 and Elements 4.0

[If this has already been addressed in this forum, I apologize in advance, but I haven't seen it, at least not addressing the questions below. I also apologize to those who read this on both the Photoshop and the Elements sites.]
For years I've been taking point-and-shoot digital pictures and processing them through one or another photo software doing nothing more than removing red-eye and cropping. I've recently decided to take up digital photography as a hobby and plan to buy a good digital SLR as well as good photoprinter. My method has been to read before buying (and to ask questions on sites such as this one). When I finally start shooting and editing, I want to learn software that I'll stick with, rather than have to relearn, and although I don't have to watch every penny, I don't want to waste money. So here's my question? Should I start with Elements 4.0 or go right to CS2. I may never need CS2, as I'm not planning a career or even a full-time avocation, but I might. So here's the sort of thing I'm confident I will want to do: manipulate RAW photos before processing them in Photoshop; work on differentially changing the exposures within a photo (e.g., adjusting the brightness of the foreground and background differentially, as I've seen talked about in some articles); if I get lucky enough to produce a worthwhile image, enlarge it (using Genuine Fractal's or the like) to make a frame-size print; these are just examples. My understanding is that all of this is possible in Elements, but may be easier in CS2. Also, there may be more advanced features that I'll want to use in CS2 but don't don't yet recognize. Finally, cutting the other way, I don't plan to abandon the point-and-shoot red-eye elimination (and skin tone correction) process for snapshots of the kids to post and send to family etc. So I would welcome any advice on whether I should start with Elements (and maybe stay there forever), go right to CS2, or get both using Elements for snapshots and CS2 for hobby work. (By the way, I've checked the Adobe site, which offers a comparison chart, but it was too imprecise to be useful.)
    Thanks in advance.

I'm a year and a half into pse3. My wife gave it to me shortly after I bought a G6, my first digicam. I am still learning all the features of the G6 (after using Olympus OM 2N for years), so learning the camera and software keeps me going.
As to PSE I find it an incredible piece of software that continues to amaze me with so many features to tweak photos. I have bought 3 books; Barb's Missing Manual, Scott Kelby's book and PSE for Dummies. I find that as I shoot more photos and re-read these books as well as the forums I keep coming up with ideas to tackle.
I am retired so I have lots of time to fiddle (but I have lots of other stuff on the go). I'm now just getting into understanding adjustment layers (although I have been using them without getting in to what is actually happening)and I have been importing a few PS actions into PSE (although I think you cannot do this with PSE4)
Every once and a while I think about PS CS2; I could see myself getting it but there's no hurry as there's still lots to learn in pse and the results I get continue to bring on new and better results.
The idea of buyinhg a tablet is a good one if you get PSE with it and you can use a tablet right off the bat. I'm also looking at tablets but to get it at the front end along with the G6 and PSE would have been too overwhelming for me....not to mention being stuck behind a computer for 25 hours/day
You will also find a ton of resources on the web for PSE, enough to keep you happy for a long time.
I am told that CS2 has a much steeper learning curve, but if you run with PSE first much of it is applicable
And then there are stand a lone shows for slides such as ProShow which goes beyond the slideshow in PSE. ProShow together with PSE is awesome.
    Happy hunting

  • Compare Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Elements 7

    Hi,
I need to compare features of Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Elements 7.
I need to know how CS4 can be better than Elements 7  and viceversa.
It will be very helpful to know this information.
    Thank You

Elements 7 uses the base code from CS3 so you won't find many comparisons to CS4. If you google around there are a ton of comparisons between PSE 7 and PS CS3, though.

Is Adobe Bridge included in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements?

Bridge is a assets manager for the Creative Suite and Creative Cloud which includes Photoshop, but not Photoshop Elements. It's bundled with CS applications, but with CC, it's a separate download.

How many times can I install Photoshop and Premiere Elements 13?

    mbuenger
Are you referring to how many times can I install, uninstall, reinstall Photoshop Elements 13 or Premiere Elements 13 on the same computer?
Or, how many of your computers can have a same purchased activated serial number at the same time for either of these products?
If the former, I know of no limit.
If the latter, the answer would be as John as mentioned.

  • Photoshop CS5, Photoshop CS5 ex, Photoshop Elements 9, iPhoto, Aperture????

Okay.... so I am a bit overwhelmed with trying to decide if I should be upgrading from iPhoto or not.
iPhoto has been great for making my photobooks. But, on occasion, it has been a bit frustrating trying to get the right number of vertical vs. horizontal photos on a page. Sometimes when adding, if you add in the right order, configurations can change, usually in size (not necessarily orientation unless it is the fewer photos per page layouts 2-3 or 4). But, it makes it go really quickly to do albums as there isn't much engineering going on as you go from page to page (on occasion, I make a separate dummy album that has a different theme that I think manages my horizontal v. vertical issue or perhaps the number of photos allowed on a page (as some themes only have up to 4 or 6 photos per page and on occasion, I like to have more 9, for example)).
Primarily, I have used iPhoto to do personal albums. I intend on possibly starting to offer my services to get albums done for people and/or do slideshow videos for them. With that, I do end up, even with my own, photos from years past or current that have coloring issues or rips/tears/fading.
As it is right now, I have used iPhoto to work on the highlights, shadows, etc, which for me right now, is by trial and error.... I don't really know what I am doing and iPhoto doesn't seem to care. Fortunately, whatever I do, I can go back to the original, which I think is true in Aperture as well... However, I think I might have heard differently with Photoshop (CS5 or Elements)?
I have not installed any plug-ins for the other printer services in iPhoto (eg. Leather Craftsmen), but, I know it is possible a client may want a 12x12 album or some of those other shapes, sizes, cover options out there.... e.g. Shutterfly, even.
One other bit of information is that I am not just a candid completely amateur photographer either. I do take quite a bit of photos with my Canon Rebel Xsi. Not top of the line.... but, although I can should in raw, have chose to always just go with jpeg as this is a hobby of mine and I really don't have loads of time to just adjust all my photos... nor necessarily the space on my computer to put everything at raw. But, I could be persuaded otherwise, if I really knew how to use and really know what the benefits of it are (again, I know I should take classes or something, just don't know where to focus my attention).
So, what am I asking? Well, a few things:
    1. If my primary goal is to make Photobooks, which program(s) should I have?
    2. I understand you could have iPhoto or Aperture and then edit photos in PhotoShop.... Does that save the file back to Aperture/iPhoto or does it make a separate file in Photoshop?
    3. Which books, classes, etc would you suggest to learn the uses of such program(s)?
    4. Does the program you mention in #1 strong enough to handle typical adjustments on jpegs-aging, color casts, lack of proper lighting, red-eye (iPhoto seems to do okay on this even in the auto function, but on occasion, it sometimes replaces with too dark of a correction, or not fully complete.)
    5. Does Shutterfly have a print plug-in so I could make photobooks on either Aperture or iPhoto and have Shutterfly print? Or is that just available on Photoshop (unless I print to jpegs and then upload to Shutterfly using the Shutterfly uploader)?
    6. Is it really beneficial to shoot in raw over jpeg?
    7. If Photoshop is even part of your answer in #1, is it worth it to have CS5 or CS5 Extended with the 3D option?

    1. If my primary goal is to make Photobooks, which program(s) should I have?
iPhoto is entirely template driven, Aperture's books are very customisable and there are losts of online options too. Google a bit and see what's out there.
    2. I understand you could have iPhoto or Aperture and then edit photos in PhotoShop.... Does that save the file back to Aperture/iPhoto or does it make a separate file in Photoshop?
Yes and Yes. In iPhoto: You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
In Aperture, Preferences _. Export and set your external editor there. WHen you send a pic to PS with Aperture it makes a tiif or psd and sends it over. Saving in Photoshop brings it back.
Photoshop Elements is a good compromise between the cost of full photoshop and the features you'll need.
    5. Does Shutterfly have a print plug-in so I could make photobooks on either Aperture or iPhoto and have Shutterfly print? Or is that just available on Photoshop (unless I print to jpegs and then upload to Shutterfly using the Shutterfly uploader)?
You could look that one up at Shutterfly yourself, no?
    6. Is it really beneficial to shoot in raw over jpeg?
Depends on what you want to do... Really that's a massively basic question. I would check out some o the online Photo forums and see what advice you can find there tom get you started. You could do worse than look here
    http://www.digital-photography-school.com/
    7. If Photoshop is even part of your answer in #1, is it worth it to have CS5 or CS5 Extended with the 3D option?
Given the amount of your experience, rather than diving in and spending a whole lot of money, start with iPhoto and Photoshop Elements. Explore. IF you want to upgrade, when you're ready, migrate to Aperture and Elements. I think you're a good way from facing CS5 yet.

I bought the Adobe student version of Photoshop and Premiere Elements a few months ago - and now I am trying to use it, and the serial number that I have is incorrect - or it is only the registration number or something? It says I should have been sent an email with the serial number once the product was registered - But I never received this email. If anyone is able to help me with this issue - that would be great. the registration number is: PEPEP6-5578-6450-8871-9107  I am using a windows based system

If I were you I would first make sure CS6 was deactivated or signed-out. Then download Adobe's cleaner and remove cc, CS6 and any other creative  application installed including Creative Cloud desktop application.  Then install CS6 and use your CS6  serial number during the install to activate CS6 standard or extended which ever the serial number is for.   CS6 Version 13.0 should the be activated. That level of CS6 is extremely bug ridden so be sure to the use CS6 menu Help>Updates to get CS6 updates.  Windows should update to version 13.0.1.3 Mac to version 13.0.6.  Not Subscription CS6 version 13.1.2...

Let us go through the usual drill on this...Premiere Elements 13 on Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit)
    1. Are you running the program from a User Account with Administrative Privileges? Go to Local Disk C/Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Premiere Elements 13, find the Adobe Premiere Elements.exe file, right click it, select and apply Run As Administrator from the pop up menu that appears, and then double click that file to determine if you can open the program from it.
    2. Does the problem issue exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    3. Are you working with a pen and tablet device instead of a mouse?
    4. How many video cards/graphics cards do you find under Device Manager/Display Adapters, what card name, driver date and up to date version number?

If non of the above gets us anywhere, we may go for
    a. deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 13.0 Folder in which it exists
    and, if necessary, then

  • Is there any "simple" documentation on the steps to download and install Photoshop and Premiere Elements V13?  The downloads seems to work but there's nothing clear on what do you do next.

I've been messing with computers since 1958 and I've never seen such a mess as trying to download and install the recently purchased copies of Photoshop and Premiere Elements Version 13.  Slow downloads?  Sure, but I can live with that.  But once downloaded, what next?  Look for a xxx.exe file somewhere in the pile?  Read the "ReadMe" file?  All I seem to get is unzipping some files with nothing leading me into the proper steps.  I can't even seem to get off the ground.  Everything I touch unzips and just lies there.  I hate to think I've gone dumb after all of these years, but "user friendly" this is not.  My "Your order confirmation" sheet gives me "Follow the instructions below to start using it today" and the first three steps work as you'd expect.  Step 4 states "After you have completed the download process, your serial number will be displayed in the download center."  Step 5 is "You can log back into 'Adobe Account Management' in the future to re-download your product or retrieve your serial number. ...."  I have no problem with my serial number but there seems to be a lot missing between Steps 4 and 5.  It would be nice to have this information as pretty standard "stuff.  Computers are supposed to do super stuff without a lot of time-consuming problems with a simple process like installing the software.  I'm feeling a bit hostile about this but it is a time-consuming, frustrating process.

  • Photoshop or Photoshop Elements?

I am not sure which product to purchase. I need to edit photos and create mood boards. Should I buy Photoshop or Photoshop Elements?

Since you provide extremely little specific information, in general it depends on how much you are willing to spend and whether you prefer to subscribe to Creative Cloud or purchase outright. You can download free trials of Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. I have no idea what "mood boards" are, but I'm sure either application will do what you want.

  • Photoshop and premiere elements will not start

If there has been an answer, I apologize for asking, I'm haven't gotten any answers from adobe chat and have reached frustration!
I have photoshop and premier elements 9 on windows 7. They worked fine for about a year then both recently stopped working, they didn't open. So I uninstalled and reinstalled from the disk and they worked.
A few days later, the same story. They stopped opening. I've only installed the programs on this one computer.
I could reinstall again and see if that works, but I think there is a 2 computer license which I might have reached since I couldn't deactivate before reinstalling because I couldn't access the program. It also seems silly to reinstall every time I need to use it.
    All ideas appreciated!

Bypass the Unwelcome Screen by creating Desktop shortcuts for the Organizer and the Editor, and restarting your computer.
    The Editor's executable is:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
    The Organizer's executable is:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 10 Organizer\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe"
The Unwelcome Screen leaves a zombie process running which prevents the actual program from launching again.

I need to reinstall Photoshop and Premiere Elements 10 on my Windows Laptop. Where can I find the download link?

If you registered your copy with adobe, you may find download links by going to the main page of adobe.com and clicking on My Adobe and working through the links there. If they're still available there, save the downloads this time, don't just run them, since adobe only makes those available for about 3 years.

  • Which files need installation for Photoshop and Premiere Elements 9

In the list of files for download for the Photoshop and Premiere Elements 9 Plus package that I just purchased,
(Windows 7) there is a single "Premiere Content ALL" file of ~4.2GB.  There are also 6 files called "Premiere
    Content 1" (and 2 2nd 3), and "Premiere Content 1 HD" (and 2 and 3).
After smooth installs of the PSE and PRE programs proper, in doing the install of the "Premiere Content ALL"
file, it seems like the "Content 1-3 and 1-3 HD"  files were included in it (judging by the file nmes flashing on
the screen during the install, and in poking around in the install directory).
What I would like to know is: are the 6 Content 1-3 and 1-3 HD file included in the Content ALL file, and if so,
are they at the same revision level as what's in the Content ALL file.
I don't want to just try installing the individual Content files over the ALL file install, as that might well screw
    something or other up.
I tried getting an answer to this on the phone with Adobe support, but could not get an unambiguous answer
from either of the two support people I spoke to.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks ...

Thanks for the reply.   The real question though was/is are ALL the files contained in the 6 separate content archive files
(Content 1, Content 2, Content 3, Content HD 1, Content HD 2, and Content HD 3) also contained in the single archive
    file called Content ALL?
Since I was unable to get a definitive answer to that question, I went ahead and downloaded all 7 of the Content archive
files, extracted all of the archived files in the *.7z files and compared the timestamps and sizes of the files in the 6 individual archives to the timestamps and sizes of the files from the "ALL" archive.   The files within the 6 archives matched those
    in the ALL archive.
And since the sizes of all 7 *.exe files are identical, I suspect they are all the same and simply invoke an unarchiver
for their respective 7z file, using their own filename as the argument to the builtin program.
The overall result is that I have verified to my own satisfaction that the contents of the 6 individual Content XX files
*are* contained within the single Content ALL file.
It would have been NICE if Adobe had bothered to TELL their customers that, so they wouldn't spend twice the time in
downloading 6 unnecessary files which in reality just duplicate the ALL file.   Plus in my case, spending an hour or
two verifying that the contents of the 6 files were also in the ALL file.   Sheesh.
    C'est la vie ...

Normally, I would expect that you could upgrade the v3 starter edition catalog to a v4 PSE catalog AND that you would do that upgrade before you started to use PSE 4.
Perhaps the answeers to my questions above will provide more information so that I and others on the forum can make recommendations.
