Compatability of ECC DEV&QAS on Win 2008/SQL 2008 with Prdn on Win 2003/Win

We are planning our  upgrade of my SAP landscape (ECC 6.0 , Portal & BI) . Would it be feasible and do-able to migrate sandbox, dev, and qas to Windows 2008 & SQL 2008 , allow the support team to use the 2008 landscape.  That means that my Dev. environments would be on Wind 2008 & SQL 2008 while my production would still be Win 2003 & 2008.   I'm not feeling like this is workable for the transport domain? will I have issues with transports across to production?
So the question is
Is it possible to transport from Windows 2008 SQL 2008 landscape over to a production landscape that is on Windows 2003 SQL 2005?
Any other issues I should be aware of ?
BTW, we would have Portal and BI setup in the same way  DEV & QAS on the newer releases and Production on the Older release.
NOTE: this would be for about 3 - 4 weeks
Please advise
Maria

Thank you,
So you're saying that if I had the DEV environment in Win 2008 SQL 2008 (being the transport domain) , and the production environment in win 2003 sql 2005, IF we had to transport across this type of landscape there should be NO issues.
Nothing else to think of as posing risk?

  • Server0 starts very slowly in PI 7.11 in Win 2008 / SQL 2008 MSCS config

    Hi all.
I have a problem in our newly installed PI 7.11 system on Windows Server 2008 and MS SQL 2008 MSCS setup. The J2EE application server on the node where the SCS is running, takes about 1 hour to start. About 20 minutes after starting, it goes from starting framework to starting apps, and then remains in that status for another 40-50 minutes. I am unable to find anything in the log files that can explain this behaviour. The J2EE app server on the second cluster nodes starts within 5-6 minutes. If I fail over the SAP Cluster Group to the second node, the situation is reversed.
We are using the latest 7.11 kernel and the latest available SPS.
    Has anyone experiences something similar?
    Regards,
    Thomas

    Hi.
    Thanks for your input!
I found this document [Process Integration (PI) Performance Check - Analyzing Performance Problems and Possible Solution Strategies|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f0b96675-87cf-2c10-b489-dee0ac03f782?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true].
I also remembered having read somewhere that the VMC should be turned off for PI. So I set the parameter vmcj/enable = off. If this really did the trick or not, I cannot guarantee, but now my server0 processes starts normally.

  • Non MSCS HA Solution for Win 2008 /SQL 2008

    Hello Team
Is there a NON MSCS solution out there for doing HA in Windows? SQL Environment. So far the HA use cases that I have seen are based on MSCS , However I would like to know if there is an SAP support solution for NON CLUSTERED (NON-MSCS)  setup for HA.  E.g.: Considering the route of SQL DB Mirroring, and would like to know possible solutions for CI to be able to reconnect to the secondary DB Host in case of Hardware Failover of Primary DB Host.
Please point me to the right documentation repository for possible Win/SQL HA Scenarios. The standard Install Guide did not provide the details that we are looking for.
Any hits and directions are very much appreciated. VMware Solutions ?
    Thanks,
    Uday

    Hi Uday,
Yes, there's SAP support for SQL DB mirroring. You can check the note 965908 - SQL Server Database Mirroring and SAP  Applications
Additionally, read the statement in the note 106275 - Availability of SAP components on MS Cluster Service
    Alternative cluster solutions
    Alternatively, other forms of clustering/high
availability are also possible but installation and support
must be provided by the SAP HA solution or implementation partner.
SAP only supports the standard configurations detailed above on Windows and
reserves the right to require that other high-availability solutions be deactivated
    when support is required

  • Windows Server 2008/SQL 2008 support?

Does the latest release of Business Object support MS Windows Server 2008 and SQL server 2008?  We are currently running BO 11.5R2 and would like to upgrade to the latest version.  Since we are also upgrading our servers to the latest 2008 versions of Windows Server and SQL server, it would be nice to know if we can install this to our new hardware.
    Thanks,

XI 3.1 or later supports both. See the [supported platforms|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/60cdb229-d874-2b10-18ac-ed2f46873753&overridelayout=true] for more info

  • Has anyone upgraded sql 2005 to sql 2008 and win 2008 Netweaver 7.0, ECC 6?

We are currently running the following landscapes
    Netweaver BI 7..0 on windows 2003 , sql 2005,
    ECC 6.0 on windows 2003, sql 2005
    SAP Portal 7 on windoes 2003 , sql 2005
And would like to plan the migration to windows 2008, sql 2008 IE 7.0
I just wanted to get some feedback regarding if someone has already done this and how you all went about to upgrade? Issues you encountered, things to avoid, all that good stuff
Without doing much research yet, and having just completed the migration from 32bit OS to 64bit and sql 2000 to sql 2005, I had to perform a NEW install of SAP on parallel servers , export from 32bit and import to 64bit servers
When we upgrade to windows 2008 and sql 2008, will we ALSO require to do a NEW install of SAP? just like what I just finished?
    Please advise?
Regards & Thank You in Advance

  • XI Dev. connected to ECC Dev and ECC Qas

    Hello Folks,
    I have a question -
We have 2 XI systems: Development, and Production (no QAS)
And 3 ECC systems: Dev, Qas and Prd.
Now we have the XI Dev connected to the ECC Dev.
I'd like to know if it's possible to also connect the XI Dev System to the ECC Qas system.
I mean, to create the RFC dest. in both systems, a new Business System for ECC QAS; and all the necessary config.... and if it won't take problems when we have to transport the Interfaces from DEV to PRD.
    Thanx in advance.
      Juan

    Hi juan,
just be carefull when you add you QUA config in ID and then when you will transport...
    1. in your ID, when will define the config with QUA, do NOT ADD the object to your Scenario.... if for the transport you choose the option "Transport all objects of my Scenario"... else you will have a problem in Prod because of the system QUA. Indeed with transport DEV become PROD but your ECC QUA cannot become ...
    2. when you will transport to your PI prod :
       - check my first point or use option "Transport by selecting each objects" and choose only object linked link to your DEV.
       - delete also the Condition option (if you have one) in the Receiver Determination if in th receivers list you have DEV and QUA.... because after the transport the ECC QUA become nothing.
So yes we can. There is no technical issue.... if you do properly the things !!

  • Oracle Database 10g Enterprise version supported on Win 2003/Win 2008?

    Hi,
The Current version of SAP we are using is SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.7 version (operating system- WINDOW NT )and the database is Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 u2013 Prod
    Please help to advice me:
Can currently running version of oracle database be supported on Win 2003/Win 2008?
Can SAP application support the existing oracle database server upgrade to Windows 2003/Win 2008?
Is it possible to have Oracle database separated to other server on SAP DEV and SAP QA?

  • ECC 6/MS Windows Server 2008/SQL Server 2008 Upgrade

I am working with a client who wishes to do an ECC upgrade from ECC 5 to ECC 6.  They also wish to upgrade the Op System from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008; and the database from MS SQL 2005 to MS SQL 2008.
My proposal is to Upgrade ECC, then the Op System then the DB in each environment before moving forward.  We would do the first upgrade in Sandbox to determine timing, issues, etc.  We would create a production support path to be used during the project, then start the upgrades Dev-QA-Prod.
The client has said that this is a risky approach and that SAP recommends a 2 step process, that is, upgrade ECC 6 thru all environments and then go back and do the Op Sys and Db upgrades afterward.
In my mind my approach is less risky as we will ensure each environment is clean and functioning smoothly before moving forward; there is less intrusion to the end user; testing is only accomplished once in each environment.  The actual production build would be split over 2 weekends, app upgrade first then op sys and db.
The assistance I need to understand isu2026.does SAP have a recommendation in this case?  I have not seen anything that says not to do the single step process I am recommending.
Thanks for any support you can provide.

    Hi,
If SAP is recomending that is because They recomends not to "mix" upgrades with any other process like Heterogeneous system copies, DB upgrades, etc. In fact this is in the upgrade guides. But I think like some others here has already writen, that you could upgrade and change OS and SQL server in two different steps but in the same process so the downtime will be longer but it will be only one.
Of course this will depend on how long your upgrade downtime will take because usually the upgrade could take 7 hours more or less, post upgrade tasks, export task (R3load), change OS and SQL server if not using different HW, import task and post copy tasks.
What is the maximun downtime your client is ready to tolerate? If you have a whole weekend beginning from friday afternoon and ending Monday morning probably you will have enough time to do all in one weekend but again, it will depend on your tests. Why don´t you talk to your client and tell them if they have new HW already for this project to do a Prod copy in one of those servers as part of the whole project and take the times you will need. Then with that in perspective you could decide what approach is better.
With some upgrades done under my belt to different clients I don´t assure anything until I do a test upgrade including all changes (os or DB) necesary to finish time schedules, then with that in mind then we can redefine the way we will use and we make that clear before the beginning of the project. I always tell them that it is better to do a test like this if they don´t have much available downtime, the project will take longer but for sure the Production downtime will be shorter.

  • Visual Studio prevents SQL 2008 Express installation on win 8.1

I wanted to install SQL Express 2008 on my Win 8.1 desktop. It gives an error indicating that I should install Visual Studio 2008 SP1 first. I tried, but SP1 installation fails. I also tried to remove VS2008 completely but I still get the same fail when

Now I cannot even  install SQL Manager 2008, to manage database on SQL server.

    Hello,
You should install SQL Server 2008 Express with SP3 included to make it compatible with Windows 8.1. Please try the following download:

  • What is the average duration of 1 full SAP life cycle or 1 end-to-end implementation. How long does it take to prepare DEV, QAS and PRD?

What is the average duration of 1 full SAP life cycle or 1 end-to-end implementation. How long does it take to prepare DEV, QAS and PRD in any company?

    Anand,
let me start with saying that the question you ask may not help you to determine the duration of your project. As Ryan and others stated the duration of the project is highly dependent on the scope of the solution you are implementing, geographical scope, amount of modifications/enhancements, number of languages, number of users that need to be trained, amount of standard processes customer is able to re-use in the implementation and many other factors (like quality of implementation contractor you will chose and availability of customer and implementors resources). I can probably go on for another couple lines, but I guess you get the idea.
With that out of the way let's talk about some example implementations that will give you an idea - Ryan did great job outlining what I would call traditional approach above. I have couple examples where customers leveraged innovative deployment strategies that are available today. In particular the project teams leveraged pre-packaged services like RDS, World Template or Best Practices as their baseline solution and they built from there. Second acceleration technique customers now leverage is the deployment in the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud to accelerate the time to initial setup of the system and thus move from traditional blueprinting to scope validation exercise that further shortens the time. There are other acceleration techniques we see applied in some cases like use of iterative implementation of the delta requirements on top of the baseline solution.
Let me offer few examples to illustrate what I explained above:
ERP implementation at Schaidt Innovations with 3 months long deployment of ERP solution using ERP RDS as a baseline (you can view their testimonial here - Schaidt Innovations: SAP ERP on HANA in the cloud - YouTube)
Customer in Asia with global template deployment that leveraged SAP ERP for Manufacturing with deployment to cloud and 9 countries rollout (Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, UK, Germany and US). The initial deployment took 4 months for first country and 2 months for rollout into the additional 8 countries - so total of 6 months. The original plan using traditional approach with full blueprint and heavy configuration was estimated to be more than double of the actual deployment time.
There are many other examples where customers follow the assemble-to-order delivery model for their project and gain significant benefits doing so. I suggest you to review some of the recordings we did in 2013 about this approach and if you are member of ASUG review the Agile ASAP sessions we did for ASUG PM SIG.

  • 10g Upgrade Order (DEV - QAS - PRD)

If I am upgrading Oracle 9.2.0.6 to 10.2.0.2, what issues will I face if I upgrade the landscape in the order of DEV, QAS, PRD.
I will wait a week between upgrades.
    Will transports fail?
Will SAP face any issues having different Oracle versions?
Do I have to upgrade DEV, QAS, PRD at the same time?

-> transports will not fail as long as the sap release will not change...
-> normally all sap systems should run smoothly on supported database platforms...10g should be no problem...the three system reside on different hosts?
to be sure (sap states that different kernel releases within one system landscape can lead to problems) try to keep the time between QAS and PRD very short and avoid transporting...
-> no, you don't have to upgrade all systems at the same time...a week between DEV and QAS is enough

  • How to compare versions of DMEE Format Tree in DEV, QAS and PRD

    Hi,
Is there a way to compare version of the DMEE Format Tree in DEV, QAS and PRD?  I would just like to ensure that version in DEV is in sync with the ones in QAS and PRD before I do my changes.  It seems that Version Management of Transaction DMEE can;t compare the versions in the three systems.  Thank you very much for your inputs.
    Best regards.
    Brando

    Brando.
DMEE is a standard transaction which will be in sync with all the servers in your landscape unless there is any customisation done and the request is not yet moved. What problem are you facing when you are trying to do REMOTE COMPARISION ?

  • 3-tier vs. 2-tier system architecture (DEV- QAS- PRD)

    Dear Xperts,
I would like to know your opinion about a 3-tier (DEV->QAS->PRD) vs 2-tier (DEV/QAS->PRD) BW system architecture.
Why should you choose for 3 instead of 2, or the other way around. Thus pro's & cons.
    Thx.

ps xcuse me 4 the cross-post in the 2004s part. It should be posted in this forum.

    Hello
2 Tier architecture will have Presentation Layer and DataBase Layer. So each and every time we have to access the Database directly and this may affect the DB Performance and if the number of concurrent users are more then it will be worser.
in 3 Tier case another layer "Application layer" has been incorporated as an intermediate between the above said 2 layers and this prevents the direct access to the DB. The performance is not highly affected. can Manage multiple concurrent users.
Heard about 4 tier came and installation process going in in Gulf. (not sure)
