Compatability with microsoft word

I cannot seem to make the word programs between my home based imac and my office pc work together. Do i need to load microsoft word onto my imac to make this seamless?

There are several OSX applications that can read and write Word files:
TextEdit
Pages (Part of iWorks)
NeoOffice <http://www.neooffice.org>
OpenOffice <http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/aqua.html>
They should all work for simple documents, but you may have to install MIcrosoft Word for others. Even then, there may be some incompatibilities.

• Yosemite compatibility with microsoft word 2008

I had held off on upgrading to Mavericks because of the issues surrounding the compatibility with Microsoft Word 2008. I am a student and need to use Word to do my work as well as having all of my current documents, including my thesis, in 2008 format. I don't want to risk losing the information or the ability to do my work and I was wondering if there is any information about whether the issue of compatibility with this version had been fixed. I don't have the means to buy a new version of Microsoft but would very much like to be able to update my system since I am still using Mountain Lion.

There has been a better and free alternative to old versions of MS Word and MS Office since forever. Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 is the latest version of a free and complete All-In-One document processor, spreadsheet, drawing, presentation, database, & formula software, found here: http://www.openoffice.org
It also reads, writes and translates MS Word, saves in many formats, and is pretty easy to use. It's entirely modern and compatible with all the latest Mac operating systems. Good luck.

• Compatibility with Microsoft Word

I am tempted to try out Pages, but I have to work with PC people who all use Microsoft Word (latest version of word, windows xp). I would be intereseted to hear anyones thoughts on the matter.
In particular, how does Pages handle embbeded Excell spreadsheets, and emmbedded images (including text annotations as well as lines and arrows)?
Assuming I can open up a word file in Pages without losing formatting, how about my co-workers opening up my files (after I make changes and export to Word)?
thanks

Whether or not Pages would work for your purposes depends on a number of factors. Consider the following:
• graphics (either in line or fixed to the page) generally import to Pages relatively faithfully, but Export of Pages layout to Word is somewhat more dicey. This is not surprising given Pages superior layout capabilities. Graphics in a Word generated generated in Windows may have some problems.
• Pages 2 comments export to Word and Word comments import to Pages, but on import to Pages, you will lose the comment author information. Pages places author comment info into a comment as plain text so that imports and exports without a problem.
• Pages has no equivalent of Word's track changes. If you need this, you are completely out of luck.
• If you paste part of an Excel spreadsheet into a Word document such that it is a normal table, then it will import to Pages and export again to Word as a normal table. If you place the part of the spreadsheet in Word as a "Microsoft Excel worksheet object", it will import to Pages as nothing more than a picture and will export back to Word as just a picture. The dynamic links to the original Excel spreadsheet will be lost.
• Hyperlinks in Pages (to bookmarks in other parts of the document, at least) export to Word and import back into Pages.
there are probably other things I am forgetting right now....

• Adobe Forms compatibility with Microsoft Word

Does anyone know if Adobe forms has the capability to merge the results of a form into a word document?

Formscentral only supports exporting responses as either PDF or Excel. From there you may be able to get your data into a word format depending on your needs. There is no autmatic way to convert responses to formatted Word files.

• Problems with Microsoft Word 2011

Hello,
So, I'm having a slight problem with Microsoft Word 2011. Yes, I realize this isn't exactly Apple related, but I was wondering if it had to do with a compatibility issue with Lion.
I'm running version 10.7.3, and I've found that when I try and change my language in Microsoft Word to English (Canada) - also have tried English (Britain) - and neither of them have changed successfully. My system language is also Canadian English, but none of these options seem to stop my Microsoft Word from trying to correct Canadian English spelling.
If anyone knows if there has been updates to Microsoft Word for this issue, please let me know. I thought it would be worth a shot asking here, as I could find nothing anywhere else.

You may also want to search/ask in the forums run by the make of this app to deal with its problems:

• How to open .doc files created with microsoft word 97... when using mac os x 10.7.4?

hi! i'm using mac os x 10.7.4 and have Office 2011. i can no longer open older documents (.doc) created with Microsoft Word 97... What can i do to get access to these files?
thanks in advance!

I had too many of these that I had to convert to a modern format. It isn't easy or consistent but one of these normally works:
1. Open up Word and use the File/Open command rather than just double clicking on the file. Why does this sometimes work? I don't know! Save in docx format.
2. Try opening the files in Office 2010 on a Windows machine. Again, immediately save as a docx file. This works more often than the advice above.
3. Download the free LibreOffice and try opening it there. There will be some format problems but easily fixed. Once again, save in docx format.
4. Breakdown and look for a dedicated format converter.

• How do I send my pages attachment so that it will open for those with Microsoft word?

How do I send my pages attachment so that it will open for those with Microsoft Word?

Hi Victoria,
Pages does not run on Windows.
Word cannot open a Pages file.
If you want someone without pages to be able to open your attachment, you will have to send it in a format openable on the recipient's computer.
If the recipient needs only to read the document, the most universal format is pdf. To send a pdf copy of your file, press command-P to open the Print dialogue, then click the PDF button and choose email PDF. This will open a new message in your default email client and attach the pdf file to that message.
If the recipient needs to be able to edit/change your document, and has MS Word, then either Save a copy as a Word file or go File > Export and choose Word as the file format for the export.
Be aware that MS Word does not support all features of Pages (and vice versa), and that formatting of the document may be affected by font substitution if you use fonts that are not available on the recipient's machine.
Regards,
Barry

• Has anyone had issues with Microsoft Word or Excel requiring initial set-up again after a software update?

Has anyone had issues with Microsoft Word or Excel requiring a set-up after software udates? I do not have product key, so unable to set up again.

This laptop has original Microsoft word & excel provided by Mac when purchased and is legal copy.
Do I understand you bought a Mac and it came with Microsoft Office? I could be wrong, but I wasn't aware that was an option. Or am I not parsing that sentence correctly and you bought a Mac and bought a legal copy of Office to install on it? In which case, never mind.

• Ipages compatible with Microsoft word???

How do you save a document on ipages to make it compatible with microsoft word? I am trying to edit some pix that have an all black background to an all white background so i dont waste all that black ink. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Once you have the document how you want it, select Export from the File menu. Click on Word at the top of the dialog box that pops up, and click Next. Then it will bring up a standard save dialog and when you click Save it will save a Word document.

• Does 'versions' work with microsoft word, ppt and excel or just pages, keynote and numbers?

Does 'versions' work with microsoft word, ppt and excel or just pages, keynote and numbers? I tried to do what the videos say but the little icon for versions is not there on word. Does this mean it only works for pages etc... or do i have to activate it somehow? If it is only for pages then this ***** and should be better advertised!!!

Each application will need to be updated to work with Versions, Full Screen, and other Lion-specific features.

• Report Generation Toolkit Compatibility with Microsoft Office 2013 and LabVIEW 2012

Hello community,
on this page there is shown the Report Generation Toolkit Compatibility with Microsoft Office and LabVIEW.
In our company we use actually LabView 2012 and it works perfectly with MS Office 2010.
Has anyone ever tried the "Report Generation Toolkit" of LabVIEW 2012 with MS Office 2013? Does it really not work? Has anyone an emirical value for this topic?

Hi digital_badger,
as you sure have seen in the link it is not officially supported by NI, which means to you one of the following things:
1. You could upgrade your LabVIEW and your Report Gerneration Toolkit to Version 2014 and use MS Office 2013
2. You could just try it with MS Office 2013 which might work but if it's not working you don't get any support from NI.
Even if someone tried it already and it worked for him does not mean that it will work on your machines. It is possible that on some of your machines it could work but not on others. Their can be a lot of problems while playing around with unsupported setups.
3. You could leave your setup as it is and stick to your MS Office 2010.
I hope I could give you a good answer to your question

• Does any apple laptop comes with microsoft word?

I have an windows 8 laptop and im so fed up with that piece of crap, does any apple laptop come with microsoft word?

No. That is totally wrong. If you buy the latest Macbook Air/Pro or iMac you will get free Pages. Pages is like Word, but even better.
If you get an older/ or if you own an older Mac, check out www.icloud.com, sign in with your APPLE ID, then click on the "Pages" app. This lets you write texts professionaly and is in my opinion way better than Word.
