I have a Sony DCR -PC110E with miniDV tapes. Have recently purchased Premiere Elements 13 .When I connect the camera via FireWire device is not recognized by Premiere. What should I do? Which driver can I download to still be able to import my video and then edit with Premiere.?
Not 100% sure, but I think I read someone say that capturing via Firewire was removed from version 13 - what does the program help file say about Firewire?
I have NOT used either, but many say to try these for SD capture http://windv.mourek.cz/ or http://www.exsate.com/products/dvcapture/

I have NOT used it, but many say to try this for HDV capture

I want to transfer my hi 8 video tapes from my Sony AF CCD  camcorder. I read that my mac mini supports some tape camcorders and to use the fire wire

If you can get hold of a Canopus ADVC-55 it requires no extra software and will feed digital video into your Mac. There are a few in Amazon UK but it's a fairly old device - I've used one for some years now - and I don't know what the general availability is.

  • Compatibility issues with my Sony DCR-DVD201 mini disk recorder

While I can play video through my camera using the DVD player that came with my new desktop, I am unable to import video. iMovie does not recognize my camera. I was under the impression that Macintosh was cutting edge, simple, and intuitive regarding movie making. So far, it has been anything but. What's more, I told the Apple salesperson that I had a Sony mini DVD recorder and nothing was mentioned about incompatability. I am working on a time sensitive project and am in desperate need of assistance. I contacted Sony via Live Chat and was told that I was SOL. Is this true?

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
You'll need to import your DVD footage onto your Mac via the camcorder's USB cable, which may take a while, and then download MPEG Streamclip to convert the DVD material into a form which iMovie can handle.
(..Incidentally, I think Bengt meant that "i.Link", not "iLinc" (which might be mistaken for "Lanc") is the same as FireWire, when he wrote "..Digital in/out - FireWire - IEEE 1394 - iLinc is the same..")
("Lanc" is a remote connection for camcorders, for turning on and off and zooming the camcorder from a distance.)

  • Premiere Pro CS4 - cannot record on mini-DV

I can easily capture data from mini-DV. But to record, it's impossible, even after recording from the same tape. Do someone know how to solve the problem? The Recorder-Device is a sony DSR-11 (known from premiere pro cs4).

chuevang, this is a user-to-user forum, so this is not the place to attack Adobe and expect a response from them. we're all fully aware of the company's shortcomings in user support.
OK, having gotten that out of the way, several users on this forum (including me) do love a puzzle, but i for one prefer to have a file I can fool around with. would you mind posting up a smallish pre-flattened file somewhere so we can have a peek? If you don't have a file drop facility, let me know and I'll lend you mine.
Is it out of the question to convert the Flash files to something else prior to editing?

  • Importing music from Sony MZ-NH600D Mini Disc

I have a number of songs that I origianlly recorderd on my Sony MZ-NH600D MiniDisc. My question is this, Is there any way to transfer theose songs from the MiniDisc to my itunes library. If not, then does anyone know how I can transfer these songs to a CD which I would then import to the Itunes library. I have Sony Sonic stage with a USB adapter to do PC to MD transfers, I just don't know how to move the songd from the minidiscs to my computer, and then import, or create a music CD.

    Hi G
As Forest writes. Your alternative is:
    • to get a FireWire miniDV tape Camera
    • try iMovie'08 (doubtfull - test in an Apple Store)
    with a quality sacrifice:
    • import from Your DVDs BUT to do this You need a program that can convert back
to streamingDV that iMovie and FCE/P uses (see below)
    • Buy an analog to digital box like a CANOPUS ADVC 55, 110 or 300 and import
via analog (video) out on the Camera
    A. don't put a mini DVD into Your iMac iBook or ProBook. You need a trayloaded DVD to do this.
    B. Read what Karsten collected:

    • Cinematize >60$
    • Mpeg2Works >25$ + Apple plug-in
    • Toast 6/7/8 allows converting to dv/insert dvd, hit apple-k
    • connect a miniDV Camcorder with analogue input to a DVD-player and transfer disk to tape/use as converter

  • Going to buy Premeire 3, however, advice on type of camcorder to buy..mini DV vs. Hard drive

I want to buy a camcorder that I can edit videos with. I am new to this and mostly for family and small business promo videos. Should I get a Mini DV camera or one with hard drive (no tapes)? I thought I would ask some people here first since salesmen seem not to know much.
Thanks and any advice on what to look for would be great.

It should be noted that it probably won't matter, on the quality issue, if it's just a little inexpensive small camcorder. Either way, the quality will probably be limited by the sensor and lens more than the format.
That being said, often times these hard disk camcorders record in MPEG format, which while being editable on Premiere, it's a lot slower with more potential for quality lost by editing the video. The tapes, on the other hand, will use DV video format, which is each frame compressed separately, making the video easy for editing software.
I prefer DV any day, because DV is a good standard and you'll be able to play those tapes on any camera or device that can play DV tapes. Additionally, DV devices nearly always (never seen one that doesn't) have a FireWire port for both device control and transferring the video directly into your editor. To top it all off, DV tapes are small and while magnetic media won't last forever, you can store your tapes away for a long time and you don't have to waste gobs and gobs of hard drive space on your PC just to keep your raw footage in case you need it at some point.
However, if it's an HDV camcorder with a hard drive, then the video would be the same to edit either way and you can record far longer than a tape allows; a 120GB drive would store about the same amount of footage as 10 DV tapes. Unfortunately, you'll lose the ability to "emulate" a DV device like you can with most HDV tape-base cameras.
    Hope that helps..

  • Connecting my macbook pro 13" to Sony bravia via mini Displayport to HDMI

    Hi,
yesterday I bought a new LCD TV Sony Bravia KDL-32EX600 (Full-HD LED) that has 4 x HDMI inputs.
I also bought a mini Displayport to HDMI and HDMI to HDMI cable.
When I connect it to my computer, the screen goes blue for a second and it doesn't recognise any additional displays. There's also no video or sound in the TV, on the right HDMI channel. (I've tried every HDMI input and every channel)
I've tested the TV with another laptop that has straight HDMI output from the gfx card and it works perfectly.
I have up-to-date MacOS and I also upgraded my TV's firmware to the latest.
I thought that maybe the miniDisplayport to HDMI connector is broken but why does the computer try to do something when I turn on the correct channel on the TV?
    I'm out of ideas..

    Hi madhenry,
I know it's a month on from your post, but I thought I'd add that I'm having exactly the same problem. I'm trying to connect my new MacBook Pro (15" core i7) to my Sony Bravia KDL-40EX600 using a mini displayport to HDMI adapter. When I plug the cable in, the MBP screen goes blue for one second then goes back to normal, but the system just doesn't detect the external display.
I've tried the MBP on other monitors and it works fine, so there is nothing wrong with the adapter or cable.
I've also tried plugging two other Macs into the TV (a 2008 15" MacBook Pro and a 2008 MacBook) and the TV works great with both of them.
So, it seems there's something specific to the new MacBook Pros that makes them incompatible with the Sony EX600 TVs.
I just talked to AppleCare about it and after trying a few things (resetting the PRAM, etc.) I was simply told that there's nothing wrong at all with the Mac and that this is simply a "compatibility" issue that I have to put up with. So, it looks like we're out of luck until (hopefully) a new Mac OS update fixes the issue.

  • Connecting to a Sony TV via Mini DVI - DVI

I have an older iMac 20" Intel core duo with the ATI Radien 1600 graphics card and bought a Mini DVI - DVI adapter and a DVI-D cable to connect to my Sony KP57WV600 projection television using the DVI input on the back of the tv. Well, after hooking everything up, my iMac still doesn't notice the tv as a display (or anything for that matter). Yet when I turn the tv on or off with the comp on, the screen on the mac turns blue for a breif moment. So some kind of signal is being transfered to the computer but no go for the use of a display. I've asked people on a few sony tv forums but they say to ask a mac expert. I've read others that have connected this tv via DVI to their PCs but have yet to find anyone that has done so with a mac.
    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nick

hey there xav_101 & welcome to Discussions
there's no way to directly connect 2 mini DV cams to your Mac & i'm not aware of any software that will do what you ask. if i were you i'd get an analog switcher w/ S-Video in & out, send output from switcher to the projectors using a distribution amp & also send to a VTR. the VTR could be a mini DV cam that converts analog to DV & send that into the Mac. i suppose you could use an analog>DVl device like a Canopus 110 instead of a cam to convert video out of the analog switcher to send to the Mac. i also use external mics(2 for an overall stereo mix of a musical performance) &/or take a board feed & a small audio mixer to get good, clean signal(no cam noise) into the cam/VTR/convertor.
when i've done a multi-cam shoot i've used 2-3 cams for shooting, an analog switcher & another cam to record & convert, then input to my Mac, or just record onto the non-shooting cam like a VTR, then dump that into my Mac later. mostly for short programs up to an hour. i do a bit of editing. maybe replace/add something 'cause i record onto my shooting cams as well, add credits then burn to DVD.
i know you didn't ask but anyway... for editing i've also just shot w/ as many cams as i need/have(up to 4) then dump footage from all cams into Final Cut--i've used both Express & Pro versions. it can take a little bit of tweaking to get everything lined up & synched, but that's part of what it does well, using multiple Audio & Video tracks.
    good luck, hope this helps.
