Compatibility check with TOSHIBA LAPTOP P850

I have TOSHIBA LAPTOP with following specification.
Product: Satellite P850
Part No: PSPKBU-09V01S
I want to install TV Tuner Card ( internal/ external). I don't know which one would be compatilble and would be able to use with Windows Media Center. Can anybody guide me?  Also I would like to know which one would be better option i.e. internal or external.

Satellite P850 (PSPKBU-09V01S)
Very similar to this model. Look at the spec.
Satellite P850-ST2GX2 (PSPKBU-05601S)

Regarding whether to add hardware internally or externally to a laptop, I would choose external no matter what it is. Plug it into a USB port.

  • Known defects with Toshiba Laptops

I see the same kind of issues repeating for a number of models of Toshiba Laptops.  I have had many problems with the Satellite laptop that my son has had and to this day I have changed the hard drive (paid for it myself) and it worked for a while but with same issues propping up after a few months of operation.  The problem is that the recovery disk fails to correct the problem and as I see even when people have bought new recovery disks, it fails to work.  Listen to this: Toshiba offered me to pay almost $450 to send my son's laptop in for fixing.  I paid almost $800 for the **bleep** thing to begin with...So why do I have to pay another $450 for something that points to a defective system to start with?
I have written to Toshiba media management center and have not gotten any feedback...Here is what I believe this company is doing:
Same issue that Toyota cars had, and their efforts to hide the issues for a long time.  I believe that Toshiba has sold many Laptop with known problems and has done nothing to resolve it.  it is one thing to pay for a fix that the users may have caused, but another thing when the product is a defective one to begin with.  The truth is that certain models of Toshiba Laptops have had known defects and the company knows about it but is not willing to do anything about it.
Time will catch up with companies of this kind just like it did with Toyota which is a much bigger company that Toshiba.

    Hi Matt
Nice thing you have there. ;)
Can I get some of them and make tests for you? :)
Dear Matt this is user-to-user forum and not the best place to search direct contact to Toshiba representatives. I recommend you to visit official Toshiba Europe page under http://www.toshiba.eu/ and go to Product Divisions and see if you can find some contact where you can describe what you are interested for. Maybe it will not be the right address but maybe the first right step in the right direction.
    Good luck.

  • Toshiba Laptop - Need Further Help

So, after much troubles and going to the apple store to get them to restore my video ipod (it wouldn't do it for me)...we've tried everything to get it to sync to my itunes on my toshiba satellite laptop. it finally after about 45 minutes started downloading songs from my itunes but stopped midway to only give me an error and stop. we have followed MANY of the support articles including this one:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300836
but it's not helping. plugged it in to my brothers Dell XPS desktop and not only connected but downloaded like MAD! So, is there something I can do with my laptop to make this work? I hate to think that in order to get my favorite tv shows, songs, etc...I have to network to his computer and do it that way. Makes $400 seem like a complete waste. Tell me it isn't so! If you have a Toshiba (which appears to be a known problem - lucky me) then PLEASE respond if you've figured out how I can fix. If it means upgrading and doing whatever to the laptop I will!!!

I've been having similar issues on my Toshiba... I found that the best thing to do is disable the high speed USB interface (sounds like you've already done that if you followed the instructions in "iPod not recognized correctly on Toshiba laptop") and then restore the iPod with the latest updater. After that, I found that if I disconnect the iPod, and re-enable the high speed USB and restart the computer, I can connect my iPod and iTunes sees it and syncs it without any issues. It just takes iTunes a while to open up when the iPod is connected. It sounds like the issue with Toshiba laptops varies from computer to computer, you may need to play around with your settings until you find out what works best for you.
I'm still working that out for myself
But feel free to let me know if you have any more problems or questions. Whatever it is, I'm sure I've been there.
    best wishes

  • Re: New Toshiba Laptop with Windows 8 stolen

good day! my laptop was stolen yerterday, there is way to track or trace my laptop?

Yup... File a police report and check if you have a serial number for the NB.. they will be asking for that if you have called toshiba dept before for technical issues it will be helpful they could get you the serial number for the NB using your name and phone number...
Now for tracking the laptop actually thats a different issue, if you dont have installed softwares like Lojack or enrolled under the Norton Anti Theft Service.. There is no other way to track down the Laptop...  Unless the Laptop will be tagged under Stolen Unit with toshiba tech dept and if the person who have the laptop currently will be calling for assistance with Toshiba Tech Support by then toshiba will be getting the current person's information like addresses and other details and by then we can ask assistance with the police for retrieving the Laptop....
so most likely i will suggest that you have to call toshiba Tech Dept.. 1-800-457-7777... They are helpfull..

Move the content from the old computer to the new computer.
Sync the iPhone via cable to the new computer and enable Wi-Fi syncing.
It should now be possible to sync via Wi-Fi to the new computer.

  • HT3669 Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. Can someone please advise me how I get the printer to work with my i-Mac? I have installed it but documents don't print. Thanks

Hi I have a Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer. This works with my Windows-based Toshiba laptop but not with my i-Mac. I have the latest (Mountain Lion 10.8.2) OS-X software.
I have installed the printer using 'System Preferences' on my i-Mac and it appears on the list of available printers but documents that I create just don't print.
Can someone please advise me how I get the Konica Minolta PagePro 1300W printer to work with my i-Mac?
    Thanks, John Lee

Looking at the Konica web site for the PagePro 1300W, I saw the following note.
Please note: This printer is designed to be used in computer operating systems running MS Windows only. Operating systems such as UNIX, Macintosh, or Linux are not supported nor do we have workaround drivers available. Older MS Windows versions, such as Windows 3.1/95/98[pre-SE] and NT 3.51/4.0, are not supported.
So KM are not going to help you. But the LinuxFoundation does provide a workaround that should allow you to print. Have a look at this web page. You will need to install all three packages as per the instructions from that page.

    Hello darkhawk,
Thank you for the recommendation.  I somewhat understand what a MS DOS disk is, but I'm not sure how to go about creating one. I've seen where you can use a program, like Rufus, to create a usb one  - but I'm leery about using 3rd-party programs (especially ones I'm not familiar with). I've come across a couple of 'how-to' tuts, but they didn't clarify what files (if any) I would need to include on the disk (for my particular situation). Right now I don't have any blank cds, nor any extra flash/thumb drives - wish I did, but hadn't needed these for years. There has only been one other time where I needed to re-install Windows, but that was over 15 years ago - I did it through BIOS, reformatting my drives, and then reinstalled via the Windows XP disk. Windows 8 is an entirely different breed, which has left me feeling a bit stumped, at times. If there was a way I could perform it (successfully), similar to the first time I did it years ago, I'd give it a try - but at the same time, I'm a bit reluctant, because if it doesn't work, then I'm stuck without any internet access to get further help.
Ask and ye shall receive. This should be doable in Windows 7 and Windows 8 on another PC. I recommend using a USB Flash drive like in this tutorial, but I'm sure you could use something else.
If you want, you could also use Hiren's BootCD to make a bootable CD with many options and programs on it (I keep one, just for certain situations) that will allow you to do the same things.

Also very useful for sorting out virus's as long as it's downloaded and made on another PC that is virus free......

  • Toshiba laptop with Atheros AR5008X won't connect to Linksys WRT350N

Please excuse the level of detail, but I believe you need a reasonably complete picture if you are to understand the problem well enough to give a complete answer.
    SETUP & BACKGROUND
I have three N-compliant devices and several G-compliant devices on my network. I also have two routers, one being used an an access point. The first is a Linksys WRT350N; the second is a Linksys WRT54G. I have the G router connected as an access point so that I can reserve the N router for the N devices and achieve N speeds.
    N devices:
Toshiba laptop; network adapter is Intel 4965AGN.
Toshiba laptop; network adapter is Atheros AR5008X
    Lexmark Wireless printer
    Router settings:
WRT350N: Security Mode WPA2 Personal; Encryption AES; Network Mode N-only; Radio Band 40MHz.
WRT54G: Security Mode WPA Personal; Encryption AES; Network Mode Mixed
The best I can recall, I set the WRT54G to WPA Personal instead of WPA2 Personal because one of the G-compliant devices did not list the WPA2 Personal setting -- but this is based on memory only.
To reserve the WRT350N for the N devices and achieve N speeds, I set the Wireless Mode to N-only and Radio Band to 40MHz., and each router broadcasts its own unique SSID. Once I set everything up, I saw a substantial increase in the link speed reported by the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor (I realize there are issues about taking these numbers at face value, but let me continue). The Toshiba Connectivity Doctor reported WRT350N link speed at 130 Mbps and everything appeared to be working well.
    PROBLEM
Until recently, no problems were apparent; the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicated the two laptops connected to the WRT350N at 130 Mbps, the printer connected to and printed via the WRT350N, and all G devices connected through the WRT54G. Recently, however, network performance declined and the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicated erratic link speeds ranging from 1 Mbps to 130 Mbps.
I found through a little research that my quest to reserve the WRT350N router for N devices lacked one element: according to Linksys help for the router, setting the N Transmission Rate to anything other than Auto results in denying access to B/G clients.
I set the N Transmission Rate to 270 Mbps (the highest setting). The Linksys printer works fine and the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicates a solid 130 Mbps link speed for the Toshiba laptop with the Intel 4965AGN adapter card.
The other Toshiba (with the Atheros AR5008X adapter card), however, is now only able to connect to the WRT54G (the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicates a solid link speed of 54 Mbps to the G SSID). If I reset the WRT350N N Transmission Rate to Auto, the Toshiba with the Atheros card can once again connect to the N Router -- but the erratic link speeds and the network degradation returns also.
I have verified that the Atheros AR5008X network adapter is N-compliant. There aren't many settings on the Atheros AR5008X adapter card configuration, but I can find no documentation on the Internet for this card.
As far as I can determine, all firmware is up to date for both routers and all drivers are up to date for both adapter cards.
I'd love to know what changed in the first place, but I'm more concerned with fixing this problem. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get the Atheros adapter card to connect to the WRT350N with the N Transmission Rate set to something other than Auto?

Atheros adapters using windows drivers wont work with N routers, ive read somewhere
    Download drivers at: http://www.atheros.cz.
Updating wless adapter sometimes can affect your pc sound quality for some reason.
Best call atheros for your concern

  • Solaris installation on toshiba laptop along with windows

i installed solaris 10 on my toshiba laptop, having windows. The solaris get installed but i am able to use only through commands.the gui is not showing.while installation also the gui is not showing but when installed in virtual bow gui is showing at the time of  installation and after installation i am able to use the gui of solaris 10 and works fine.dont know what is the reason while installing on laptop directly

The reason is simple why it's work on VirtualBox. In VBox, this software emulates a generic graphical chipset. In one phrase, we have the same chipset for each machine type.
Look if Solaris 10 can run with VESA driver and when not you can still share the chipset reference that you have and I can try to see if this is supported or not.
