Compatibility Essbase and MS Analysis Services

Hi all,now, we're looking a comparision betwenn both tools, Essbase and Analysis Services, we don't know exactly if thery're compatible. We've seen if you have installed both tools, when you try to do drill-down with Essbase, It start to be crazy, and drill-down for all the levels, for example.Someone has any experience using both tools in the same excel? are compatible?thanks a lot!!

The drill down behavior of the Essbase add-in is configurable - you can define it to zoom to different levels of the hierarchy.As far as comparisons between the tools - what type of information are you looking for? Essbase Vs. Microsoft Analysis Services

Hello,We are comparing Essbase w/EIS to microsoft analysis services and I seem to have a problem. We have an outline with 8 dimensions and one of the dimensions has almost 84,000 members. On an essbase sun solaris server with 4cpu 4gb ram the cube is about 6GB and takes over 4 hours to calc(no formulas just calc all). On a single cpu windows 2k machine analysis services runs the same data into the same type of outline and rolls it up in about 30 minutes. To be fair I ran the same cube on the windows box in essbase and killed it after 13 days of calculating without finishing.The cubes are the same, have the same datasource and the same members(or whatever they are called in AS2k) and the results are the same.Any ideas why AS2k is so much faster? I'm loathe to switch to a Microsoft product, but the numbers don't lie. This is only 6 months of data and we are planning to have 4 years worth before long. Well, the decision of which tool to choose should not be a function of who the vendor is - you should choose the right tool for the job.No - numbers don't lie - AS2K is much faster for straight up consolidations than Essbase. However, there are a few things to consider:1) Essbase tends to be a bit faster for querying (ad hoc analysis) than analysis services. Do some benchmarking on end user performance.2) Essbase scales better for large numbers of queries than AS2K - try hitting the server with lots of queries at once and see what happens.3) What is the purpose of this app? Is it just straight up consolidation? Is there going to be write back? If not, are there other apps you are looking to develop that will? Essbase is stronger than AS2K with respect to write back.4) Are there any complex calculation requirements? AS2K does not have a procedural calculation language. Calculations in AS2K are dynamic - calculated members and cells.5) Do you have ragged hierarchies? These are are hierarchies that are not symetrical - AS2K does not consolidate ragged hierarchies, so they are slower to query if they are large.6) Is the Essbase model tuned? I don't know how much Essbase work you have done, but that could be a factor (note - AS is usually faster than Essbase on rollups no matter what the configuration, all other things being equal).7) What front ends are you looking at for this tool? Who is the audience? Have you looked at the choices of front end tools of AS2K vs Essbase?My point here is that there is more to consider than just calc time. Discussions relating to MDX and other Analysis Services or OLAP questions

In my Analysis services i have DimGeography, DimCustomer, DimDate dimemsions and Sales measure group.
By using above cube i have created SSRS report for the Area wise sales.
DimGeography will contains the region values.(East, West, North, Souuth,.....)
DimGeography will contains the Customers details.
Now the the requirment is for few customers we have to devide the Region wise sales based on customers.
For example
in case of Customer_1, the sales will be 10% East, 30% West, 25% Notrth, 35% South..
in case of Customer_2, the sales will be 15% East, 40% West, 20% Notrth, 55% South..
in case of Customer_n, the sales will be 30% East, 30% West, 25% Notrth, 15% South..
The above persentage values will change for every quarter. We will generate report as per new values only. We are not considering old values. We will store these values in Table and will update every quarter These table not having in Cubes.
Can you please suggest me how to impliment this logic in Report.

Thank you both for your comments, I had previous discussed this & the issue with the wrist strap, I'll have to find those comments & repost as advised by nokia support.
So the sensor isn't idea, the inner ear canal exists unfortunately the sensor cannot deal with it when the sensor goes over the ear under those circumstances. I'll have to repost those comments soon.

SSMS Hang on connecting Analysis services

Hi Experts ,
I am stuck on Production Server while connecting to Analysis services
When I open SSMS and Connect to Analysis Services, it just hang and nothing happens even after waiting for 20-25 mins .
We tried to restart Sql Server Analysis services but even it is hanged, with Amdin credential I have stopped the
Service , but for last 30 mins it is in Stoppng State ..
I saw CPU usage is 10% and memory is hardly 30% used in Task manager
Please assist , its urgent .?

According to your description, it hangs when connecting SSAS and starting Analysis Services. Right?
In this scenario, please go to event view. Remove all old entries and Clear All Events. Then try to start the Analysis Services service. After that you suppose to connect SSAS successfully. Please refer to similar threads below:

According to your description, you want to know the what you need to put when logging on to SSAS. Right?
In Analysis Services, Analysis Services provides a role-based authorization model that grants access to operations, objects, and data. All users who access an Analysis Services instance or database must do so within the context of a role. And the membership
of roles should be assigned to windows use (windows authentication).
In this scenario, you need to put in the windows user password. It's not supported to connect via SSAS without password.

Creating OLAP report with Crystal Reports and SQL Server Analysis Services 2005

Hi!
I am currently using the trial version of the Crystal Reports XI and I wanted to do an OLAP report. The problem is I cannot select a cube using "OLAP Connection Browser" (the popup window). I already selected Microsoft OLE DB Provider and entered the server name but still can't connect.
I don't think the problem is with SQL Server Analysis Services (2005) since Microsoft Excel - Import Data can detect the server as well as the cube I have created.
I also tried the "Database Expert" of Crystal Reports, created an OLE DB (ADO) connection with "OLE DB Provider for OLAP Services 8.0" driver, entered the server name, checked the integrated security and then I can readily select the database created at SQL Server Analysis Services. However, I still need the OLAP grid create the report but it goes back to my original problem... selecting a cube.
I hope somebody would help me with this issue.

I don't recognize those variables as CR ones so it's likely something the original developer is setting in code.
You'll have to discuss with that person.

Services in Essbase and Planning

Hi All,
We have installed Essbase 7.1.6.7, Essbase Admin services ver 7.2.5.2, Planning 4.0.5.2, web analyzer 7.2.5.5 and
Shared services 7.2.5.2. We have sql as rdbms and tomcat as web application server.
a) When look into services.msc we find the following services.
1. Essbase service
2. Hyperion <Server name> Tomcat5
3. Hyperion Shared services OpenLdap
4. Hyperion Essbase_Administration_server
5. HyperionRMIRegistry
However following are not visible in services.msc.
1. Web Analyzer (Although web analyzer works fine)
2. Planning (This works fine)
The query is why are the above services not seen in services.msc ?
b) For Shared Services to be seen in window services(service.msc) , are the following services viz "Hyperion <Server
name> Tomcat5" and "Hyperion Shared services OpenLdap" sufficient or are there any other services related to
shared services that has been left out in service.msc.
Please advise.

Did you maybe do a manual deployment of Planning and Analyzer?? Do you start the services via .bat file?
If you reboot the server, can you still log on to Planning and Analyzer?

Will the Power BI Analysis Services Connector work if AD and AAD UPN suffixes don't match?

We are using Azure Active Directory, AD FS, and DirSync with
Alternate Login IDs, which means that our on-prem usernames have a different UPN suffix from our AAD usernames.
Will the Power BI Analysis Services Connector work in this setup? Or do the AD and AAD UPN suffixes absolutely have to match?

Hey Adam,
From SSAS, we simply query AD by passing the UPN we receive from AAD. As long as AD can find a match, it'll work.
So if there is a way in AD to map a particular UPN to another value, it'll work.
For example: For a user A, her on premises UPN is
'[email protected]' but she uses '[email protected]' as her email address. From AAD we'll receive
'[email protected]' & since AD knows that this is same as
'[email protected]' effective user name will work.

I have to build some reports on Data Warehouse using SQL server 2005 Analysis Services.
My question is:
1) How I have to build this reports: directly to data warehouse or building an OLAP (CUBE) in analysis services 2005?
2) BO XI R2 supports SQL server 2005 and especially in this case Analysis services 2005 and provider (I have seen only provider for SQL Server 2000)?
Do you some good resources where to learn how to make reports on DW SQL server 2005?

If you are trying to create a new OLAP Intelligence Report using SQL 05 I am afraid you are out of luck.
You will need to get a copy of the Productivity Pack (Available for Download in Subscribenet) .
Also, in your SQL Server Sufrace Configuraiton manager try setting Analysis Services to Allow Ananomous connections. This will make sure you get a little further initially. (Dont leave Anonymous on)

MS Analysis Services and SAP BW

I need to solve the following problem:
The data for analysis is kept in MS Analysis Services. That data must be exported from it to BW.
But the primary task is to create appropriate InfoCubes in BW. Can that Infocubes be created in BW automatically on basis of cubes in MS AS or the appropriate InfoCubes in BW must firstly be created manually and then that InfoCubes can automatically be filled with data taken from MS AS as data source?

Error when trying to view reports or manually processing the TFS data warehouse and analysis services cube

Hello Guys,
I am trying to configure the reporting for TFS using SQL Server. But I get following error when viewing any report:

When I click on GetProcessingStatus and invoke it (with last field set as TRUE) I get following error:
Please advice as to how to resolve this issue and be able to see the reports.

I have managed to resolve this issue. Note that for all purposes of this question and answer, mydomain\tfsadmin is a generic user (used to install all software). This is a proof of concept account, for test purposes
The thing is that while installation of the SQL Analysis service I had given the username: mydomain\tfsadmin (a generic user for testing) as the Analysis service administrator, instead of the 'Domain admin' group.
Still I have managed to resolve this issue.
Steps:
1. Make sure that the user (mydomain\tfsadmin) is a member of Analysis Server -> TFS_Analysis db -> Roles -> TFSWarehouseAdministrator and TFSWarehouseDataReader. (This actually happens automatically when you run the TFS Admin console and configure
reporting and provide the username that will access the Analysis db, etc. In my case the user is 'mydomain\tfsadmin')
2. It is a bad practice to manually process the cube (you can do this is make sure that there are no errors, but only after completing the following steps till step 5)
3. Also make sure that NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE is member of the Analysis db -> Roles -> TFSWarehouseAdministrator ->
this will resolve the error which appears in the 2nd screenshot in the question.
4. Then you can right click on the Analysis db and run process. If this is throwing error as shown in above reply of mine, then you need to follow https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/vstudio/ff400237.aspx
a. http://localhost:8080/tfs/TeamFoundation/Administration/v3.0/WarehouseControlService.asmx
b. Choose
ProcessWarehouse, run it.
c. Choose ProcessAnalysisDatabase, type 'Full' and run it.
d. Choose GetProcessingStatus,
enter 'TRUE' in last field and run it.
e. I don't get any errors at this point.
5. Now you can connect to the Analysis server via SQL Mgmt Console, right click on Analysis db (TFS_Analysis) and click Process. It all works good.
6. Now you can browse to the report URL (to get this URL you can open Team explorer 2013, connect to you team project, on RHS click 'Reports', Click 'Go to Site'.
DONE.

Analysis Services started and then stopped, Event ID: 0xC1210000

I just installed SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and SP1 and SP2. I cannot start Analysis Services. The message box states: The SQL Server Analysis Services (MSSQLSERVER) service on Local Computer started and then stopped.     I looked in the log files located at: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\OLAP\Log and found these entries:

During installation I did get an unhandled exception (I don't know what component caused the exception). I have found this in the SQLDUMPER_ERRORLOG.log file:

Does anyone have any idea on this problem? My installation of SQL Server Analysis Services worked fine. I now have the same error as Lucy. This happened after no upgrading of SQLSERVER. It must have issues with security patches on the OS, or maybe service packs for Visual Studio (2005). And no reinstallation of the patch is not the answer (or rebooting).
The service times out and tells me to check the logs. The msmdsrv.log file indicates any unhandled exception -

I have tried reinstalling, changed users for the service, changes instance names. The logging tells me nothing, except there is a big problem.
I even installed the SQL Server SP2 hoping to fix whatever the problem was. Now I also have SSIS throwing an exception and wanting to attach a debugger to it on top of my original problem. After reading about all of the problems with SQL Server SP2, I think I created a bigger monster. Uninstalling leaves around all kind of files, registry entries, and program numbers.

Essbase and Shared Services

Hi everyone,
I have installed the complete EPM suite on a single machine. All the products work fine and everyting is configured correctly (according to the CONFIGURATOR) but I can't see Essbase in Shared Services?
When I expand the Application Groups I see everything but Essbase.
Can anyone tell me how to register Essbase with SS?

Is it showing as "Analytic Servers; Servername"?
Else, you will have to use Hyperion Configuration utility to register Essbase server with shared services.

Essbase and Shared Services - Whether 1 box installtion is good or 2 box in

Hi,
I need to upgrade/migrate 50+ cubes from Essbase 7.1 to Essbase 11.1.2.1.
Whis options mentioned below is better:
1. Install Essbase and Shared Services in one box/machine
2. Install Essbase in one box/machine and shared service in another box/machine.
What will be the best architecture for this?

Personally I would suggest keeping essbase separate especially with the number of applications, though it is probably best discussing your options and infrastructure with a good consultant as these decisions cannot really be made on a forum.
