Compatibility frustration

I updated my ipod a couple of weeks ago,
and now it is no longer compatible with my itunes version
So I went to the website and tried to download the newest version of itunes,
but I cannot install it because apparently I dont have the correct version of windows (I have windows xp home edition)
I cant reset my ipod back to the old version, because itunes cant read it at all...
I went to the website, and checked other forums and the faq, and tried to update my windows version so i can update my itunes because i stupidly updated my ipod...but my computer is already set to automatically update, and it still doesnt work..
I have a 3rd generation ipod nano
and im currently running itunes version 7.5 i believe

Let's confirm whether Service Pack 2 is installed... Click Start, right click on My Computer and click Properties. Towards the top of the window, you'll see where it says "System: Microsoft Windows XP.." The fourth line of this information tells you your Service Pack. If it says Service Pack 1, get your free update here:

  • Version Compatibility Frustration

    Hello,
Development would be so much easier if J2ME CDC was compatible with J2SE1.4. When will the CDC 1.1 be complete (JSR218)?
I'm new to J2ME development and have had good success with some prototypes (CDC 1.0.1). One of the significant reasons for choosing Java is the wealth of APIs available from Sun and from open source projects. However, I keep running into roadblocks caused by version incompatibilities. Although some have options for backward compatibility, most APIs seem to favor being built with v1.4. This is an issue for us because of attempts to make portions of our application portable between an embedded WinCE device, desktop, and server. To top if off, Sun is pushing J2SE 5.0. I'm stuck trying to make things work with v1.3 !!! We will probably end up with .NET for all of it.
    Thanks for reading my rant.

    Rob,
This is mmore of a question to you than a response to your rants... rants are therapeutical though...
You seem to be already developing in the CVM/CDC/J2ME/etc. environment.
I have a client for whom I need to develop an app for a Windows CE3.0 platform.
What, in total, do I need to do this? I've already downloaded the j2me_cdcfp-1_0_1-fcs-src-b12-linux-i686-14_May_2002.zip file. What else do I need to do this? Is there any special licensing, other software downloads, supporting files?
I posted this question a few days ago on this forum but haven't yet received any replies and I need to get hot on this.
    Your help would be appreciated.

  • Cisco ASA 5505 Configurations. Help... Beyond Frustrated

    Hello All,
I'm fairly new to Cisco products and Network management in general. At my place of employment, I was hired as an IT Tech- Repair and Building computers, most aspects of Physical networking, and software refresh/upgrades as well as solving compatibility issues among a plethora of other things. I've configured APs, a couple Catalyst switches, a router or two, and that is about the breadth of my Cisco knowledge. I was kind of thrown into a project which is to update the current inventory of computers which all run Windows XP Professional. We are making a capital purchase of 20 Laptops and 40 Desktops all of which will run Windows 7. This means the outdated PIX they were using is now useless. I purchased a Cisco ASA 5505 (Version 8.2(1)) because it is compatible with Windows XP and Windows 7. I have spent several days and sleepless nights trying to figure out how to configure this thing. I was hoping to use SSL for the VPN. I did some basic configurations just to get started but like I said, I have no real experience with Adaptive Security Appliances and I am so frustrated right now. I tried using the Wizard to no avail. I did a write erase using CLI and tried to configure that way but I'm doing something wrong as far as I can tell. The configurations were mostly pulled from here, the Cisco Community, and a couple other web sites.
I’m connecting the ASA 5505 to a cable modem (gateway 24.39.245.33) and to our Netvanta for VPN purposes. Here are the commands/what I have configured so far:
    hostname AMDASA
    domain-name asa.(mydomain).com
    enable password (encrypted)
    passwd (encrypted)
    interface Ethernet0/0
    description TWCoutside
    switchport access vlan 2
    no shutdown
    write mem
    exit
    interface Ethernet0/1
    description Port1inside
    switchport access vlan 1
    no shutdown
    write mem
    exit
    interface Vlan1
    nameif inside
    security-level 100
    ip address 192.168.0.250 255.255.255.0
    write mem
    exit
    interface Vlan2
    nameif outside
    security-level 0
    ip address 24.39.245.36 255.255.255.240
    write mem
    exit
    object-group icmp-type DefaultICMP
    description Default ICMP Types permitted
    icmp-object echo-reply
    icmp-object unreachable
    icmp-object time-exceeded
    write mem
    exit
    ftp mode passive
    write mem
    clock timezone EST -5
    clock summer-time EDT recurring
    write mem
    exit
    dns server-group DefaultDNS
    domain-name asa.adcmotors.com
    write mem
    exit
access-list acl_outside extended permit icmp any any object-group DefaultICMP
    access-group acl_outside in interface outside
access-list acl_inside extended permit icmp any any object-group DefaultICMP
    access-group acl_inside in interface inside
    write mem
    exit
    write mem
That is the extent of the configurations I made via CLI. I don't know how to set the DNS lookup from a static port and I have no idea what else I'm supposed to do after the above configurations I have done. Is there a place to actually obtain ALL of the configurations needed to VPN in? Is there an easier way to make this thing work? I've seriously grown a patch of gray hair because of this device. Please help me if you can!!!!!!

    Hi our desperate friend .
First I would suggest to use the Cisco VPN client instead of SSL VPN (AnyConnect). The configuration is a bit simpler and for the SSL VPN you would need to install the client on the ASA and purchase additional license if you plan to have more than 2 clients. The VPN Client usually comes with the ASA. If you dont have it or dont have access to download it from cisco.com go to the person from which you purchased your ASA and ask him how to get it.
That said, I also think that your ASA lacks of some basic configuration as of now.  If you are planning to use this in replacement for your current PIX. You would need to configure a default route and some basic NAT:
    route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 24.39.245.33
    global (outside) 1 interface
    nat (inside) 1 192.168.0.0  255.255.255.0
Now regarding the VPN Client configuration you would need to something like this:
    Create an isakmp policy:
    crypto isakmp enable outside
    crypto isakmp policy 10
    authentication pre-share
    encryption 3des
    hash sha
    group 2
    lifetime 86400
Create a couple of ACLs that we will use later:
    access-list nonat permit ip 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.100.0 255.255.255.0
    access-list split_tun standard permit 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0
Create a Pool for the VPN Clients to use:
ip local pool TestPool 192.168.100.1-192.168.100.20 mask 255.255.255.0
    Create a Group Policy:
    group-policy TEST internal
    group-policy TEST attributes
    split-tunnel-policy tunnelspecified
    split-tunnel-network-list value split_tun
    Create a group:
    tunnel-group TEST type ipsec-ra
    tunnel-group TEST general-attributes
    address-pool TestPool
    authentication-server-group ABTVPN
    default-group-policy TEST
    tunnel-group TEST ipsec-attributes
    pre-shared-key cisco123
Create crypto map and do a NAT 0:
    crypto ipsec transform-set ESP-3DES-SHA esp-3des esp-sha-hmac
    crypto dynamic-map Outside_dyn_map 10 set transform-set ESP-3DES-SHA
    crypto map Outside_map 10 ipsec-isakmp dynamic Outside_dyn_map
    crypto map Outside_map interface outside
    nat (inside) 0 access-l nonat
Finally create a user that you will use to connect:
    username test password test123
Then you would need to configure your VPN Client to connect with the ASA.
Here is a config Example of VPN clients to the ASA. It uses an external server for the authentication but just skip those parts. For the initial config you might want to keep the authentication local.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_configuration_example09186a00806de37e.shtml
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask if you have any questions. Also it would very usefull if you could upload the current config (show run) of the ASA in case you need to ask something else.
    Have fun.

  • HT2292 I recently got a new ipod touch and the new one will not connect to itunes.  I've done all the troubleshooting and now I'm just plain frustrated.  With the new update my old ipod froze and best buy gave me a new one. What to do?

My ipod recenly froze with the last update.  bestbuy gave me a replacement.  the new one will not connect to the computer or itunes.  i followed all the instructions and - nothing.  It's frustrating enough as i lost all my notes and work, but now I can't connect to sync with itunes.  i don't get it.  i'm not a supertech so i don't know what to do. help!!!!!!

Thanks, Bob!  You are correct.  And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE).  One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
    1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind.  Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
    2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers.  Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them!

  • Excel 2007 .xlsm Application compatable with Windows 8.1

I have finely lost the plot, for weeks I have been trying to load an Excel macro .xlsm file created on a Windows 7, with Office 2007 Professional on to a brand new computer running Windows 8.1 with Office 2007 Enterprise. on opening the file
in Excel I get "compile error in hidden module". I tried everything to repair this without any success all the research pointed to reinstalling Office so bought Office 2013 and installed it. Same thing "compile error" indecently the
very same Excel .xlsm file runs perfectly on another machine running Windows XP and Office 2010. Further more another application which uses Excel for invoices and reports could not even find Excel.  Researching the internet I find that Office
2013 has compatibility problems with Windows 8.1 Well done Microsoft!
I called the Microsoft help line to find if there is a fix and ended up somewhere in India speaking to someone in a language worse than pigeon English 20 minutes later and diverted twice I explained the problem and was asked for my contract number...
Duh! I said what about the warranty and was told sorry can't help you. Well done Microsoft!
Uninstalled Office 2013 and replaced it with Office 2010 home and student. deleted all the .exd files from the disastrous Dec Microsoft update, Well done Microsoft! reregistered the MSCOMCTL.OCX and FM20.DLL planted the.xlsm file in a trusted
location checked all the Macro and ActiveX settings and tried to load the file. The file  loads but  I now get  "Runtime Error 32809" it cant recognise 3 pages out of the has 19 pages it has. At any reference to one
of these 3 pages and it crashes.
I have been through "Compile Error" "Object does not exist on this machine" "Can't exit design mode" "Hidden file in Module" "Cant create ButtonX" "Unexpected Error 32809" and finally I am almost
there but "Runtime Error 32809" have tried 3 versions of Office and now totally frustrated and have no more hair left to pull out. Well done Microsoft you are too busy writing new operating systems to dump on us every two years which no
doubt will also not be compatible even with itself please fix the issues we are currently burdened with and I would like a refund for the Office 2013 which is not compatible with your flagship Windows8.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • When clicking the itunes icon on my left side of screen a window pops up and says i need to disable the compatability, I tried to do this from what it prompted me to do, but it still say problem unresolved

I have not been able to access the itunes store for the past month, it has been a long time since I have downloaded/purchased anything, probably around christmas time, but the problem is I click on the itunes store and the grey zebra striped bar just keeps running accross the top indefinitely, one other thing is that when I click on my itunes icon on the left side of my screen a window pops up and tells me to turn off compatibility, so I tried to follow the prompts through the properties from right clicking the itunes icon but after the thing runs its check and i click on make suggested changes, it still says incompatible.  I have no idea what to do and this is extremely frustrating, please help!!

    Refer to this artile:

  • IPod Classic 7th Gen Docking Compatability

I have a brand new iPod Classic 160GB with latest software version (2.0.5 PC) that is barely a week old. I have been trying unsuccessfully to get it to work properly on both the NAD VISO 1 speaker dock and the B&W Zeppelin Air (both also brand new - purchased for the iPod). The iPod docks OK with both, but the playback doesn't work properly with either one and it's frustrating the $@!^*!! out of me.
VISO 1: I have the latest firmware version on the unit and have been in contact with NAD. After confirming that I have latest firmware, they decided the unit was defective so I returned it for a brand new replacement. The replacement has the latest firmware as well and behaves the same way. The iPod will play back normally for awhile (length of normal playback is very variable) but eventually when it come to the end of a song, it just stops playing. The iPod screen still show's the unit in "play" mode, but there is no progress on the song time bar (stays at 0:00) as if it was paused. When this happens, the unit no longer responds to the remote. I can manually pause/play the iPod directly, but it does not progress. If I undock the iPod with it still showing "play" it immediately begins playing once disconnected from the NAD. Re-docking it causes it to freeze in place again. The only way to recover the NAD is to power cycle it. Once power cycled it will play normally for awhile before locking up again - as frequently as after every song. I have an older iPod Classic 80GB running firmware 1.1.2 (which is the latest for that unit) which behaves exactly the same way as the newer iPod on the VISO.
It seems highly unlikely that 2 separate brand new units would be defective in an identical fashion and seems more like a compatibility problem. I offered to communicate directly with the engineers so they could look at it and hopefully make a firmware fix, but according to NAD, the engineers tested a 160GB iPod there and were unable to reproduce the behavior. The NAD sounds great and I really want to make it work, but I can't accept it if this can't be fixed.
B&W Zeppelin Air: Decided to try the B&W since the NAD doesn't want to work right. First thing I did was upgrade it to latest firmware. Could not get it to play with the iPod at all. It connected (battery icon showed it as plugged in) but wouldn't play. I could start play manually on the iPod - and unlike the NAD it WOULD begin playing, but no sound came from the speaker. I tried with the older iPod, and it played perfectly - and sounds outrageously good too. I went back to the 160GB and still couldn't get it to play. After some trial and error, I finally discovered that if I skipped forward or backward a couple tracks, it would finally completely connect and begin playing - but the playback speed is slow. Being the holiday, I have yet to hear back from B&W.
I'm very frustrated. Both of the units sound amazing when they play, but if I can't get them to work right they are worthless.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sorry, not much expert here on SSD mods, you may get better response in the iPod Mod forum.
It has a lot of posts on successful SSD swaps and also some nasty experience on SSD which does not work on some iPod.
Read through the forum and learn together with them, and avoid frustration of getting an expensive SSD, which the iPod firmware can't recognise, and also there is not enough voltage to power up those old SSD using 5volt rails, iPod hardisk uses 3.3volts rails.
    Good Luck!.

  • IPhoto 9/Photoshop Elements compatibility

I never used to have this problem when I had my old eMac. I can't open up photos from my iPhoto into Photoshop elements. At first I thought it was a Camera Raw compatibility problem, as Camara Raw isn't compatible with my current Nikon. However, even old photos taken on my old Canon will not open in Photoshop. I try to select and click on an image when in the "select" function and rather than anything being highlighted, the box scrolls back to the first image in my iPhoto images. It is getting very frustrating. I was able to drag and drop images to my desktop before, but now I can't even drag and drop anymore. I am not a huge tech person, but I do a lot of digital scrapbooking and not being able to simply open up the iPhoto image is now getting beyond frustrating. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am using Photoshop Elements 6.

Try this basic fix: trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
Then re-select Elements as your External Editor and try again.

  • InDesign Backwards Compatibility in CS5 an MAJOR issue

I am a print designer who works in InDesign. I bought CS3 Design Premium in late summer of 2008. Shortly thereafter CS4 came out, but after just having forked out a big chunk of change, I decided against upgrading to CS4 right away. Recently I considered upgrading but then heard CS5 was coming out so I decided to postpone the upgrade and wait for the new software. I've just checked out the trial version of CS5 InDesign and after speaking with Adobe Support have come to the conclusion that I can't upgrade to CS5. Why? BACKWARDS compatibility to CS3. The previously offered export features that supplied a path for backwards compatibility via an .inx file are gone.
I design freelance for a lot of different customers and once the design is complete, I have to deliver the InDesign file along with all associated fonts ad images to my clients. Most of my clients are still on CS3. If I upgrade to CS5 I will instantly not be able to work for 2/3 of my clients, as I will have no means by which to save a file backwards to CS3. I was informed by Adobe support that I would need to buy CS4 and CS5, as I could save my CS5 file in the IDML format and open it in CS4 and then I could save the file from CS4 as an INX file and open that is CS3. ARE THEY INSANE??? First off that requires keeping 3 version of InDesign up and running on my machine all of the time and secondly, why should I have to buy CS4 when I'm paying an additional fee to upgrade to CS5 because I didn't upgrade from CS4? This is so screwed up that it has to be an oversight---please tell me there is a patch in the works!!!
PS- I've never posted to a forum before, so if I have broken any rules of forum etiquette or offended in any way, I offer my apologies now and if I (and the Adobe Support staff I spoke to) have overlooked something, please enlighten me!

    Cynthia Ryan Graphic wrote:
I am all for working with better workflow practices and I understand that saving files backwards is less than ideal but Adobe needs to look at the real world uses of their software as well. I have to work with firms that aren't upgrading now--especially with the economy we are now in--and most of the items I design for them are ads-- one page- nothing too complex--really nothing fancy. I obviously wouldn't save a book or a very complex document backwards in this way, but simple things have translated just fine in the past. In the real world we hit situations like this.
I bought my software 21 months ago and in this time Adobe has expected me to upgrade twice--I haven't even finished expensing  the initial cost of the software on my books yet. Upgrading that often just can't happen in a small firm--it's prohibitively expensive for a one man shop.
So now from what I understand, to do this properly, I am supposed to buy the upgrade and keep both versions running on my machine and track with every client which version of the software I need to be working in. What happens when I have to add an employee? I will have to buy the CS3 version of the software in addition to the CS5 Suite because otherwise we can't work on the same files. I'm finding this frustrating.
Your suggestion of buying CS4 from Amazon is a good one. I will look into that further.
DISCLAIMER: I'm an Adobe stockholder. REALITY: My holdings are probably in the same proportion as the number of bits it takes to store a period character (".") on an Internet server is to the entire Internet's storage capacity. So, while I may have some self-interest here, it's not driving me to encourage you - or even all the participants on this forum - to buy more software than you want to or need to.
If you're simply interested in test-driving a new release, you can do that with the free 30-day trials. If you run out time, you can probably figure out a way to trick out your system to get another 30-day shot.
However, if you use the software commercially - either to train others, or to create new material or revise old material for clients or employers - you need to decide if you can continue to do this with the software versions you own, or if the commercial needs will require you to license new versions.
Regarding "expensing the initial cost of the software on my books" If I understand the US income-tax policies, purchases under a rather modest amount can usually be expensed in the year of purchase. If, because of your accounting method or preference, you're using a longer expensing time period, you might want to reevaluate your approach. If you attribute a portion of the software cost to each project you use it on, and, in this case, in 21 months your work hasn't let you recapture the investment, they you may want to use that information to decide how to pursue more paying for the software, or decline that stream of work and forgo upgrading.
An alternate way to evaluate the software, especially as an employer of users, is to compare the product cost vs. how many more billable hours you and your workers can complete in a given time with it and without it, and, how competitively you can bid projects, due to the product's efficiency.

  • I Tunes for Windows 7, Compatibility Issues

When I try to download I Tunes it states it has downloaded successfully. However, I have no sound when I am in this application. If you're still getting the compatibility mode message even though you have all the boxes unchecked in the Compatibility tab, you may have an errant setting in your registry. For Windows 7 troubleshooting advice on that possibility, see RandomBehavior's post in the following thread:

That sounds like a compatibility issue with an add-on that you have installed, as reported by a number of users in both Firefox 22 and Firefox 23 over the last couple of months. If you would provide a listing of your installed extensions ''(as you were prompted to do when creating this thread)'' maybe one of us can advise you which extension is the mot likely culprit. You will need to re-install Firefox 23 to do further diagnostic testing.
As far as the compatibility of Firefox 23 and Win XP SP3, Mozilla has verified they are compatible and not one user ''(including me on two separate PC's)'' has reported a problem with compatibility.

  • Windows compatibility; Delete key, view, Office for Mac and  Hassels

    Dear Friends
I liked the style of the Mac powerbook, and after years of happy use of a Samsung notebook, I decided to take the plunge and buy a Mac. I amlo liked the idea of contributing to diversiy and not putting all my bucks in Gates's basket! People assured me there would be no compatibility problems bwteeen Office for PC and Office for Mac. So I moved from PC to Mac, but have had lots of problems. I have a powerbook 12". My main issues are that:
    1. Word and Powerpoint for Mac do not always convert properly when I take my files to work where I have to use PC. I find editing in powerpoint for Mac less easy than PPT for windows. Before an important presentation at an international conference recenly, the file I worked on on my Mac came out all funny when I loaded it onto the windows laptop that was already set up. I lost a good five minutes ******* around beore an international audience. Someitmes formatting in Word for Mac jumps and highlights and bold and bullet points go all srtrange or are lost when I take the file to work.
    2. The keyboard of the Mac is frustrating. I usually delete rightward; to do this on a Mac I have to hold down Fn and then delete, i.e. two finger operation. I always screw up since I am so used to the delete key on my PC and my brain gets in a twist. Is there a way I can change this?
    3. The power book is quite heavy (a simple moan as I travle a lot).
    4. Word, PPT and internet pages do not cover the whole screen, just the left half to three quarters, with a strip of unused screen on the right. I have been unable to make word for Mac ect cover the whole screen, so I always have to adjust the view size and then half the text is cut off. I would like to see the whole screen used. This is frustrating as the Mac has a kind of grainy screen.
    Any suggestions?
    Chris

    1. For problems related to Microsoft Office you should post your questions to Microsoft's own Mac discussions:
    http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups
    2. If you want to "forward-delete" on a Mac without hitting the function key, then you'll have to purchase a full size Apple USB keyboard.
    3. Sorry. Can't help with that one. Maybe you should have bough a ligther 15" Powerbook.
    4. Again, sorry, but that's not a bug, it's a learning curve. Longtime Windows users seem to be more often than not used to working with applications and windows that cover the whole screen. Mac users generally don't. Just drag the windows over to the right or click the green maximize button at the top left of each window.

You need to have xlsm where you can access the macro in numbers.  this is frustrating that the idea of Numbers is to make it like Excel yet you dont have this capability.  Question is, when will it happen or will it happen????

    Hi brev,
    Several points here:
    1. Although there is some compatibility between Numbers and Excel files, I doubt very much that "the idea of Numbers is to make it like Excel." The two applications share some similarities, but also have several differences.
    2. Your Question is unanswerable in this forum. Apple does not generally reveal future development plans or schedules for its applications, and anyone with knowledge of those plans will be bound by a non-disclosure agreement.
    3. "You need to" implies a feature request. If you want to request that a feature be added to a future version of Numbers, that request is better made directly to Apple, via the Feedback channel, than here, where the readers and responders are all users of the software, not developers. From the application menu (the "Numbers" menu in Numbers), choose Provide Numbers Feedback, then make your request for a feature to be added to Numbers.
Meantime, if you absolutely need the macros capabilities of MS Excel, try one of the Office clones—OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice, or NeoOffice, which may offer macro support, or use the Mac version of Excel itself.
    Regards,
    Barry
