Compatibility Mode for itunes 10.3 due to error 2096

i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times and still get the "error 2096" message. followed all steps as directed for removal. does this have anything to do with the compatility mode? should it be checked or unchecked? can anyone help?

Whereabouts on the PC did you create the new library, carol? (By default, if you don't choose a new location, it's stashed in a folder in one of the following locations:
Microsoft Windows XP
\Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\My Music\
Microsoft Windows Vista
\Users\[your username]\Music\
Microsoft Windows 7

  • How do I turn off the compatibility mode for ITunes.

I have turned off the compatibility mode for Itues off so there is no tick in the box and yet, even after removing Itunes completely from the PC and reinstalling it, it automatically sets to run in an older version even if the compatibility button has not been ticked...!!!!
Can anyone suggest why this happens and how can i change it?

There were no boxes checked in the Compatibility mode tab for either iTunes.exe or QuickTimePlayer.exe and I was still having the issue. RandomBehavior's post was the solution. I’m not real computer savvy so it took me a while to figure out the process. Below is the solution for dummies. It did not require a restart but, I did one and everything was great. No more compatibility popup. :o)
Left Click on Windows Icon on Bottom Taskbar
    Select: Help and Support
    Search: regedit
Select: 1. Back up the registry
Choose: Click to open Registry Editor
    Allow Changes
    Open folders in this order
    HKEYCURRENTUSER
    Software
    Microsoft
    Windows NT
    CurrentVersion
    AppCompatFlags
    Layers
Mouse over the file c:\Program Files…
    c:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe
    Delete this file: c:\Program Files…
    which is c:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe

  • Error - iTunes Library .iti file is locked on a disk or you do not have permission for this file. I can open itunes in the compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3 ???

In Windows 8 I received the error iTunes Library .iti file is locked on a disk or you do not have permission for this file. I can open itunes in the compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 3.
I've tried changing permissions and sharing - nothing seems to work. mat be a Windows 8 issue???

You also need to make sure you have both read and write permission for the file, or for the whole iTunes folder for that matter.  That's also done in Get Info for the file or folder concerned.
Read the part about changing permissions on the iTunes folder in: https://discussions.apple.com/message/11583914

  • How to set Compatibility Mode for a single site in ie10

This question was originally posted on the Answers forum -

I am having problem with getting ie10 to set ie9 compatibility for a single site (sharepoint.contoso.com).
When I add this website in Compatibility View Settings (Alt > Tools > Compatibility View Settings > 'Add this Website') it adds the domain 'contoso.com' and not the individual website (sharepoint.contoso.com).
This cause other sites (www.contoso.com) to be configured to use compatibility mode. Because this is a separate site (different web server) to the site sharepoint.contoso.com (sharepoint 2010 server) we need different compatibility settings.
Using a different example to explain the issue -
Microsoft has three websites that are different websites created by different developers written in different programming languages and they only work with certain browsers.
    microsoft.com (Website1 created by Developer1) - compatible with ie8/ie9/ie10
    msdn.microsoft.com (Website2 created by Developer2) - compatible with ie8/ie9
    technet.microsoft.com (Website3 website created by Developer3) - compatible only with ie10
The only thing the three website share is the URL contains 'microsoft.com'.
Marking 'msdn.microsoft.com' to run in compatibility mode affects the other 2 websites - mainly technet.microsoft.com which will not work now since it only runs in pure ie10 mode.
Should you be able to add an individual site to the compatibility list instead of all sites that have  .microsoft.com in the URL? Am I missing a simple setting in the ie10?
As a workaround I am using the F12 Developer Tools to set the Browser Mode which temporary sets the compatibility mode. However this is not a nice solution to the end users at our organisation.

problem is not solved for non corporate environments...
You could start your own thread.  Then if you got that answer and it was marked Answered you would have the ability to unmark it.  The OP of this one seems satisfied.  Also note that this is TechNet.  Consumers can get help on Answers
    forums.

Oh! I wrote it wrong: I should have said: This is not solved for NON-AD environments. No demands what so ever to use Window 7/8 professional in a small corporation or on a big corporation with Island of smaller departments for example offshore.
The problem is that the thread is not "Answered" by the OP, its is marked answered by a moderator (and same moderator that did the answer) so no way of telling if the OP is satisfied.
But you are right in the fact that I am almost kidnapping the thread. But a complete answer would benefit all in this case I would presume.

  • IOS8 needs backwards compatibility mode for pre-IOS8 apps!

Seems some very nice and fully functional apps available on the App store have stopped working in IOS8.
One example is TreeSketch 3.0 which played a big part in my purchasing an iPad Air 2 (as opposed to an Android tablet where this app does not exist)
This app worked nicely earlier this year on an iPad 2 that I borrowed (IOS7?) but no longer works in IOS8 - although still being present in the App store.
Is there any chance of Apple adding "backwards compatibility mode" for such apps ?
Seems to me that Apple's priorities when designing IOS8 do not fully appreciate or understand their own ecosystem of valuable apps.
(An app may be very valuable, even if free)

I have done that and am awaiting replies.
However this policy assumes that the app developer remains active - this is not often the case.
For the TreeSketch app, it was evidently developed by a University and public grant.
The students responsible for development may very well have moved on...
Also - how easy will it be for an App developer when Apple introduces 4000 new API's in IOS8 ?
Will it be obvious for them which API's they used have been depreceated ??

  • HT1926 I keep getting the following message after attempting to download and install the latest update for iTunes: missing MSVCR80.dll.  error 7 (windows error 126)

I keep getting the following message after attempting to download and install the latest update for iTunes: missing MSVCR80.dll.  error 7 (windows error 126). Anyone else having this issue? How do I get iTunes back in working order?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

    Hello aristilus2,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with iTunes.  I suggest removing and reinstalling iTunes for the issue you described.  The following article has steps to do this, and I recommend removing iTunes and all related componenets as outlined in the article:

  • WIndows compatibility issue for itunes 7

I just upgraded to itunes 7. My shortcut icons for itunes are no lnger itunes images but a generic icon. Also when I open itunes it says my "version of itunes is set to run in compatibility mode to run with al older version of windows. For best results turn off compatibility mode before opening it"
Does anyone understand this error message and what is causing it?
Can you help me to get my icons back and to remove this error type message?
    thank you.

    Hey,
I'm having a similar problem. After I installed iTunes 7 on my computer, all the iTunes icons have been changed to a an image icon (jpg image). But I can open iTunes, the problem occurs when the song I am listening to ends and switches to a new song. When a new song is being played, iTunes uses up 100% CPU resources and the song starts to skip, this goes on for about a minute until everything returns back to normal... until the song ends and the next song starts to play, then it starts all over again.
