Compatibility of cs6 and cc versions

Just wondering if anyone can help as I've been going around and around on the adobe site trying to work this out and my patience is wearing thin.
I am the owner of a small business with two complete work stations running Design Premium 5.5
I have just purchased a third workstation that will be occupied a few days per week, and was initially thinking I'd upgrade to cs6 on the two machines and purchase a new cs6 edition for the third workstation. Until yesterday's announcement of the subscription focus that is.
I am not terribly interested in going across to subscription for the two workstations that currently have 5.5 on them, particularly because it was a large investment to purchase legitimate copies of the software initially and continue to upgrade them over the years.  It seems like such a waste of money.
So, I was thinking, if I were to set up the new workstation on the subscription (it seems inevitable that we are being pushed towards this), would my files from the upgraded cs6 workstations be compatible with CC, or would there be issues working back and forth between the two?
However, it seems like adobe has me backed into a corner. Originally the $2850 investment to have all workstations running on cs6 seemed like a good idea, but with the subscription announcement yesterday I'm not sure whether I'd be throwing money down the drain so to speak. Are the two versions compatible? Am I just best to throw out my perfectly fine design premium 5.5 editions and start again from scratch with the subscription?
Thanks for any insight or help you can offer.

Adobe plans to continue to support CS6 indefinitely, according to their FAQs:
Can I purchase a perpetual license for Creative Suite 6?
Yes. Adobe will continue to make Creative Suite 6 available as a perpetual software license, and will provide bug fixes and security updates as necessary. All of the CS6 suite editions and individual products continue to be available for purchase by Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) on Adobe.com as well as through select retailers. Volume licensing for these products is also available through Adobe Authorized Resellers worldwide.
For how long will Adobe continue to sell Creative Suite 6?
We plan to sell Creative Suite 6 for use on supported platforms indefinitely.

I am in a very similar situation (2 workstations running CS5.5 and trying to decide to go CS6 or CC). Probably going to see how the marketplace reacts to CC and Adobe responds over the next couple years. Initial signs (inability to access files after subscription lapses, lack of a 'buyout' option) are scaring me off from CC for now, despite the discounts offered by Adobe through August 31.

  • Photoshop CS6 and CC versions - which is better ?

I use Photoshop CS6 for all my work but some of the features of the CC version are missing (such as the new Perspective warp).  If I install CC can I still use my CS6 files and do these products run parallel or integrated ?  i.e. will I have 2 photoshop programs stored on my hard-drive or one with all of the features of both ?  Thanks for helping  DA

Think of CC as CS7. It isthe next full upgrade. They just decided to rename it CC as it intragrates into the cloud features like syncing presets for example.
Therefore all CS6 files will work in CC. You can keep both on your system if you like, why not I do. In fact I have CS5, CS6 and CC at the moment.
If you choose to, you can uninstall CS6 and keep just CC. Just keep in mind what you save will be for CC and can be loaded into CS6 if you have maximum compatability turned on, otherwise it may not work. (Never tried it)
If you purchased any plugins or filters, you may need to reinstall them for CC to use them. People have run into issues copy/pasting the files between versions.
To use any of the new features of photoshop, you need to install CC. CS6 will only get bug corrections. The exception to this is camera raw, the latest version is designed for both CS6 and CC.

  • Compatibility between CS3 and earlier versions?

As the web developer I have Contribute version 3, but some of
    my new clients
will be buying the latest Contribute CS3 to update their site
    pages. Can I
still set up their roles and editing rights for a site and
    create a
connection key to send to them that will work for them in
    Contribute CS3
without difficulty? And can either of us still edit the site
    pages,
regardless of the fact that we are each using different
    versions of
    Contribute?
In conclusion, are there any backward compatibility issues I
    should be aware
of between the newer version and older versions of CS3 when
    administering,
and connecting to, the same website?
    Thanks in advance.

Has anything been done to fix the version control issues in CS6 and SVN?  It would be nice if it would play nicely with Tortoise.

  • Difference Between CS6 and CC Versions

I started the update to my CS6 software thinking that all this talk about the upgrade being designated as CC was a Marketing move.  Instead the Application Manager installed the CC version and kept the CS6 version installed.  What's the difference and why do we need both the CS6 and CC verions on our machines?
    Thanks in advance! - Ron

Or, as in my case, Muse gives you an registration error message one day and won't launch (thinks I'm using a beta version when I'm not). Adobe support eventually advises you to remove all your copies of everything Adobe on your machine, including preferences etc. CS6, 5, 4...
Support sends you a link to download Adobe Application Manager because you can't download it from your My Adobe. It works and you have time to download two of your Adobe apps because your day has been shot. Next day you launch Adobe Application Manager again and suddenly it upgrades and turns itself into Adobe Creative Cloud but won't actually launch as an app-managing app. Some kind of glitch. Now your array of CS6 apps doesn't exist anymore and you can't finish downloading your CC set.
Adobe takes desktop control of your machine (very nice support feature) and can't solve it after an hour or so and so tell you to restart after creating another admin user, severing the chat connection. Now I'm waiting another hour for a chat representative to take my chat and hope for the best.
Makes me wonder whether the boxed sets weren't better after all.... at least you knew you could reinstall something and DIY....  you weren't so completely and utterly dependent on Adobe support.

  • Premiere CS6 and CC: any compatibility issues working back and forth between both versions?

    Hello,
What are the compatibility issues with Premiere CS6 and CC versions?  Can the user go back and forth?  I run a computer lab at a college and we will be upgrading to CC but many students will still be using the older CS6 version of Premiere until we update all the computers....  Will students run into problems?
    Thanks,

My concern is going back and forth between the versions...  I read somewhere there are compatibility issues with Premiere....Can the user working in CC go back to premiere CS6? and vice versa?
    Thanks,

  • Saving as .eps format compatible with Adobe Illustrator CS6 or earlier versions

saving as .eps format compatible with Adobe Illustrator CS6 or earlier versions??
does this mean cs6 or newer, or cs6 and older versions?

Don't use EPS anymore. It has been replaced by PDF or AI with PDF compatibility. If you use PDF use either a PDF/X-4 or a PDF without flattening transparency, so you will be able to use layers in other applications.
If you need to use a file in an older version you should save it as AI file in the version you want to open it. But it can happen, when you use some effects it can cause a flattening or rasterizing of a file or parts of it. So keep ALWAYS the file in the version you have created it.

  • CS6 and CC

I recently purchased the full CS6 with perpetual licence. My question is, if I joined the CC, does the version of CS6 count as a second copy of the software. In other words do I in effect own one copy and rent the other as if I had two licences? Also when Photoshop CC is released, do I get automatically updated to the new version?
    Thanks

Currently both the perpetual license (serial number) and paid subscription (Adobe ID) are both on version CS6.
You can only activate the CS6 software once on a single computer - either with a serial number or an Adobe ID.
If you activate with an Adobe ID then you do get the member-only product updates (different than security and bug fix updates). Details on these member-only product updates are on the Creative Cloud Team Blog here http://blogs.adobe.com/creativecloud/.
Once the CC version is released on June 17 (per the Monday May 6 announcement at the Adobe MAX keynote speech - you can watch here http://max.adobe.com/sessions/online.html) there will be a new version. You will be able to have both CS6 and CC versions on your machine.

  • I use CS6 and when I try to open a ai file from later version I'm told i must select a page from the PDF to open?

I am following tutorials in Adobe Illustrator CC Classroom in a Book, but I use CS6. How can I open the lesson files to display correctly?

I'm having further problems when I open these CC ai lesson files.
    All the swatches disappear.
I had not realized there would be such compatibility issues between CS6 and CC.
Yes I am warned when opening files craeted with later versions that there might be some "data loss" but this seems beyond reasonable?

  • Issues with 64 bit version of PS CS6 and now CC hanging, also sniffer_gpu.exe

I cannot use the 64 bit version of Photoshop for awhile now. I had hoped that with CC coming out that would fix the problem, but it hasn't. I am able to use the 32 bit version, so after putting some time in with Adobe tech support to no avail after some hours, I'd just used that, but with the problem continuing in the latest edition I figured I should deal with it.
I am running Windows 7 pro, an intel core i7 950 processor, and an AMD (ATI) Radeon HD 5700 video card.
Both 64 bit versions of Photoshop hang for me before I can open any file. Looking in the resource monitor, at the wait chain, it states, 'one or more threads of Photoshop.exe are waiting to finish network I/O.'. The only way I can close the app then is by manually killing it in task manager or resource monitor.
One thing I've noticed that may or may not be related, sniffer_gpu.exe only appears in the resource monitor while running a 64 bit version of Photoshop, both CS6 and CC. Once it appears, it seems to continually use 12% of my cpu, and even after I kill Photoshop, it continues to run and use 12% of my cpu, until I kill it as well. This does not happen at all when I run the 32 bit versions, I do not even see sniffer_gpu.exe appear.
Anyone have a clue what the problem might be?

Way back when, I did indeed uninstall and reinstall my Catalyst drivers, still no luck, still same problem.
Finally today, some 6 months later, I was again dealing with Photoshop Phone tech support for another hour or two, including much hold time, finally having the issue excalated, as all software and drivers seemed up to date, and yet all versions of the gpu sniffer program still could not identify my gpu.
After I got off the phone with them, I went to the AMD site and followed instructions on how to uninstall and reinstall their software. One step I had not thought of or tried was, after uninstalling the Catalyst software, repairing the .Net 4.5.1 framework through the Microsoft site before reinstalling the Catalyst software. It somehow seems that though the Catalyst installer software supposedly installs the .Net 4.5 framework, it cannot, unless the framework is already installed...
Anyway, this does seem to have finally gotten the 64bit Version of Photoshop to finally work on my desktop.

  • Need assistance to update Photoshop cs6 and Lightroom to version 2014. Please help!

Need assistance to update Photoshop cs6 and Lightroom  to version 2014.
I have a Mac. I am not a member in Creative Cloud, invested big and bought CS6 and LR in the beginning of last year.
    Please help!

These are not updates (just as CS6 was not an update to CS5), but upGRADES. They are available to CC (Creative Cloud) subscribers. While in the past you might have been able to pay for an upgrade (e.g. CS5 to CS6) you now have to subscribe. Once you are a subscriber you can upgrade to each new version as it comes along.
As well as the full CC subscription there is a $10/mo plan with only Photoshop and Lightroom. Creative Cloud Photography plan | Adobe Creative Cloud

  • Premiere Pro CS6 and MXF Compatibility.

We have recently had a problem with audio dropping out during export using Premiere Pro CS6. This particular project file used a combination of footage from a Canon XH-A1 and a Canon XF305. It was created in CS5 (Not CS5.5) and was recently converted to a CS6 Project file. When we would export the sequence the video would have missing audio in several places.
We think it may be a compatibility issue with the MXF conatiner used by the XF305. I have seen other people mention issues they have encountered using a similar set up. Is this something that may be a an issue for us if we move forward using CS6 and the XF305 on all of our projects?
The problem was resolved by taking all the footage offline in CS6, deleting the render files, moving the cache folder and bringing everything back online.
We just want to make sure that everything is compatible like it should be and if not what kind of patches we could expect in the future? It would be preferable not to have to transcode our footage prior to importing into Premiere Pro.

I had this once too, and I "fixed" it by deleting the XMP files.
