Compatibility of Dreamweaver 8

I have Dreamweaver 8 running just fine on my Windows XP system.  However, I just got a new
Windows 7 system and am trying to install Dreamweaver 8 on it.  However, after I load the disk,
the installation hangs saying "Not Responding".  Isn't Dreamweaver 8 compatible with Windows 7?
If it isn't, what version of Dreamweaver do I need?
Thanks, Ginger

Well Adobe would love for you to update to CC.
But have you tried running the installer in 32-bit mode? Will the application run in 32-bit mode? I use a Mac, so I don't know, but I thought that Win 7 was supposed to have some backwards-compatibility deal where you could run legacy stuff.

  • Compatibility of Dreamweaver 3 with Photoshop CS4

I have Photoshop CS4 and want to buy Dreamweaver CS3 (because it's less expensive than 4).... will there be any compatibility issues if I do this? Or does this even matter? I have never used Dreamweaver which is why I'm asking.
    Thanks for your help/assistance.
    Patrick

CS3 is a previous version so make sure you are buying this from a legitimate source.  Also with Photoshop CS4 you do have the option to upgrade to a discounted suite.
Anyways, back to your topic, no there should not be any issues.  There are some added features in CS4 such as the ability to handle PSD files, but it's really not a big deal and I can tell you from my experience I typically export slices from Photoshop and build the HTML by hand in DW to make it work.  So you should be fine if you go with CS3.

  • Not sure how to enable Contribute compatability in Dreamweaver

I'm creating a site in DW CS4 for a client to edit in Contribute. I've enabled Contribute in Dreamweaver, but it ads an ASP extension to the dwt file name. Is this normal? Do I have to have Contribute installed on the same computer as Dreamweaver in order for this to work? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me, I'm having a very difficult time finding answers to these questions.

Contribute should not add any extension to the .dwt files. Rather when you create a connection to the site in Contribute, the templates will be downloaded and users can create the webpages using these templates.
Contribute is not required on the same machine.
Clients can install Contribute in there machines and connect to the site using any of the protocol supported like FTP/SFTP/Webdav and update the content.
    Hope it helps,
    Manoj

  • Contribute CS3 compatibility with Dreamweaver MX 2004

    I haven't upgraded my Dreamweaver MX 2004 to 8 or CS3 - I
mostly handcode XHTML / CSS ... I have a client who is ideal for
Contribute for the content management needs, but I want to make
sure that I won't be forced into a manditory upgrade situation for
myself to both Dreamweaver CS3 and Contribute CS3 in order to
support them (and I've used Contribute 2 with older clients for a
    while).

Have you found an answer for this. I am in a similar
situation, in CS3 Mac. If I use www.mysite.com/www, which is the
folder for ftp purposes, I get:
Dreamweaver could not find a page at the specified site root
URL. Please check the site root URL.
If I just go to the main url, www.mysite.com, I get:
Dreamweaver could not connect to the remote server. You
cannot perform Contribute administration tasks without a connection
to a remote server. Please fix the remote connection before
    continuing.
I've tried it on another site I administer and it worked
fine, so I'm wondering if it's something to do with the
configuration of the server, but my hosts haven't got any answers
    either...
    Any pointers gratefully received.

  • Enabling Contribute Compatability with Dreamweaver

I have a webist set up in Dreamweaver. I have about 50 end
users who are using Contribute. I am working on a new web site and
am trying to set everyone up in Dreamweaver for access to edit
pages in Contribute. Each time I go to the Contribute section on
the Site Management section, the previous users do not appear. It
starts all over and ask for a new administrator password. It does
not save anything I have done previously.
    Can anyone help?

I think that the problem might be that it is looking for the wrong default page extension. It should be pointing to index.php.
Looking at your other pages, it is probably looking for index.htm, therefore you are getting the error. You will need to move the index.php to the top of your list for default page extensions and it should work.
If you go to the administer site in Contribute (under your Manage Sites), there is a section under "Web Server" where you can move that to the top of the list. You can always check it by opening up contribute and pointing it to http://www.mn-group.com/index.php and see if you can edit the page.

  • Adobe Bridge CC to Adobe Dreamweaver CC compatibility issues

I've just got off the phone to Adobe help desk following an investigation which took a number of days to resolve.
    The problem was this -
I'm studying for a Dreamweaver ACE exam on Monday (wish me luck!) and I'm using Adobe Dreamweaver CC "Classroom in a book" to help me prepare.
One of the tasks is to access Adobe Bridge CC, select a JPEG image, and then click File > Place > Dreamweaver to transfer the image from Bridge to where you want to place the image in Dreamweaver. Wouldn't be a problem except on Bridge you can no longer follow the commands File > Place > Dreamweaver, because on the latest versions of Bridge, (as I was eventually told by Adobe helpdesk after their investigation) the option to place a file or image onto Dreamweaver (and now Photoshop) no longer exisits.
this was confirmed when the gentleman at Helpdesk tried installing the latest versions of Bridge/Dreamweaver/Photoshop onto his computer and encountered the same issue.
I'm wondering whether Adobe are now phasing out Bridge as it is now becoming less compatible with Dreamweaver (and now Photoshop) and if so, what it is being replaced with?
I'm also hoping that im not going to get an outdated question on my ACE exam re compatibility between Dreamweaver and Bridge, but thats a whole different issue...
Cheers guys, all the best, and happy new year!

Is this something that has changed from CS6 to CC?
No, you either are trying to copy from a disk that does not allow you to copy or you don't have the correct admin permission for read write in Finder.
Check the folder or disk with cmd + i (get info) and at the bottom check if you have the correct read and write permissions
But the easiest way to copy to a folder on your system is opening the folder panel in Bridge with the wanted destination folder in view and drag and drop (with option pressed for copy if you are on the same disk) the file from the content panel to that folder.

  • Updating Templates in Dreamweaver & Keeping Client Side Updates

I have a situation with a website where the client requests a
change to be made within the main menu system of the website, so
all of the templates & the entire site must be updated. I
download the latest version of the site, to ensure the content
added is up to date & included, make the necessary changes
& update all pages, everything is fine, until we check the site
& find out the content that has recently been added by the
    client is missing.
So, when the template is edited, the documents created using
those templates are updated partially - the recent additions made
through Contribute by the client are lost.
This is highly problematic, as it would require the client
keeping track of changes made to ensure they are still available
    after updating the site.
Has anyone experienced this type of issue with Contribute who
can offer any ways to reduce the impact of this happening? Or at
least ensure the client this is manageable - as in theory, the
templates should update the html files as they are.
    Thanks in advance.
Is there any way to stop this happening in the future? It
    seems quite strange that

This is not nic, but I had the same problem. I have two
    answers for you:
    Answer 1:
Maybe something went wrong with the communication between
Dreamweaver and Contribute (mistakes in the checking out of files).
I've experienced problems myself with very large websites (never
    with the smaller ones).
I think the beste solution to try out is:
    1. to download the whole site from the server using an ftp
program )(and make a working version and a back up)
    2. disable contribute compatibility in Dreamweaver (so no
checking in or out is happening)
    3. adjust the templates (put menu's and other stuf that needs
to be updated more often in include files, see answer 2)
    4. update all the pages on saving the template
    5. check the result and if everything is OK now, upload the
updated files using the ftp program.
    6. enable dreamweaver compatibility with contribute
    Answer 2:
For the future I would make sure that your menu's and other
parts of the templates that need to be updated more often then the
design, are included using a script language like PHP ( <?php
    include("file-to-be-included.php"); ?> ).
This way you never have to take so much trouble updating
these parts of the website, since there are all in seperate files.

  • Contribute and Dreamweaver / Network Drive!

    Hi All!
Due to security limitations, the site I manage has no ftp
access (the entire site is uploaded to a remote server each time as
a zip file). Also, we have no local testing server so the entire
site is actually administered on a local network drive. I have the
site set up in Dreamweaver but we have Contribute on a second
machine in the office and I'd like to set the site up so that I can
administer it through dreamweaver while an editor would be able to
    make simple edits through Contribute.
The editor can connect to the local drive with Contribute
without issue but I'd like to enable Contribute compatibility in
Dreamweaver to allow check-in/check out. In the 'site definition'
dialog in dreamweaver, under the 'Contribute' category, I checked
'Enable Contribute compatibility' but it also asks for the Site
Root URL. However, this site has to be administered on the local
network drive (I tried using the path as the site rool url) so I
can't figure out if it even going to be possible to set it up to
    work.
Is it even going to be possible to set up the site,
Dreamweaver and Contribute to work together on a local drive
    instead of an actual server?
    Thanks very much in advance.

    Hi, Vicky,
In the site setup section there is a Contribute tab. Checkmark the "Enable Contribute Compatibility". It should walk you through the setup steps. It's been some time since I set one up so I can't recall exactly what you do. I do remember it wasn't particularly difficult. Hope that helps.

  • HELP!!!   Dreamweaver could not connect you to the remote server"

    Hi all,
I have been struck by what seems a common problem with
    Dreamweaver/Contribute.
I get this message when trying to “Enable Contribute
    compatibility” in Dreamweaver:
“Dreamweaver could not connect you to the remote
server. You cannot perform Contribute administration tasks without
a connection to a remote server. Please fix the remote connection
    before continuing.”
I have read that DW will try to write and delete a file to
confirm the connection… When I look at the FTP log of DW, it
confirms that the Temp file has been written and deleted.
So, it has in fact connected to the remote server...!
Things I have done to try to eliminate errors includes:
    • Ensure Contribute is not open on the PC.
    • Contacted my ISP to ensure that “/” is
    the “Host directory”
    • Modified the URL in each of the tabs listed below
 Including the Base web address
Below are the settings I have selected in the Site definition
    window:
    Local info:
    Local root folder: v\website\
    Links relative to Document:
    Http address:
    http://www.website.com
    Remote Info:
    Access FTP
    FTP Host www.website.com
    Host directory /
    Contribute:
    Rollback enabled: Currently off
    CPS enable Currently off
    Site URL:
    http://www.website.com
I have spoken to my ISP: www.webcentral.com.au
    • They have confirmed that Contribute is used on their
    products by other users.
    • They also stated that they sell Sharepoint as their
    CMS option
What other things can I try to eliminate this problem?

    Hi,
Can you please try adding the DNS in your machine where DW
    is running?
    Steps to add:
    1) In the Network Connections, right click Local Area
    Connection.
    2) Select Properties.
    3) Select Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) and click Properties
    button.
    4) Select the radio button Use the following DNS server
addresses and provide your preferred DNS and Alternate DNS server
    addresses.
    5) Click Advanced button and select DNS tab in the Advanced
    PCT/IP setting dialog.
    6) Select the radio button "Append these DNS suffixes (in
Order)" and add the values and also add DNS suffix for this
    connection.
    7) Click ok and close all the dialogs.
    Hope this helps.

  • Dreamweaver CS6 - ftp stops on some files or get permission errors

Just installed DW CS6 version 12.0 build 5861 yesterday on windows 8.1. The FTP connects & will upload some files but stalls with images. An example is an image called gov_logo.jpg . It is only 27kb but it stalls with only part of image on server. This is not the only problem image. Time-out is set to 60 seconds & the image will upload with a different ftp client as my host has checked & tested it. I have seen lots of so called fixes & have tried all but have noticed this issue is unresolved for lots of people. Could someone please help.
    Thanks Chris

    Hi Nancy,
I have used DW since DW MX back when it was Macromedia, then upgraded to Studio 8 & they worked well. Macromedia even did some trouble shooting for me & I'm just one of the small guys. Adobe on the other hand seem to leave you high & dry.
this just seems absurd(I'm not getting at you). I had researched these products from their respective sites before purchase. Yes it does seem that it's a win8.1 issue yet Adobe is selling their DWcs6 saying it works fine on 8.1 & obviously it doesn't properly. Just the posts in this website clearly show that it's not a one off issue & there are plenty of other forums & websites stating this issue. For anyone else that may & will have this same issue there seems to be no resolution & you may as well throw your DWcs6 & your windows 8.1 computer in the bin & kiss goodbye to a few thousand dollars for those products & a few more for the work you lose. It seems Adobe & Microsoft don't care about small clients & loosing them won't effect their bottom line, they are too big for that.
This link shows Microsoft's clarifying the compatibility of 8.1 & DW cs6  Windows Compatibility Center: dreamweaver
This link shows Adobe saying the same thing  Windows 8.1 compatibility FAQs | CC, CS6, Acrobat
In my opinion both of these links have misrepresented their products joint compatibility & this is what I went off before forking out the $$.
This link shows just a small fraction of people complaining about windows 8.1 WinInet issue including DW cs6 users.  FtpOpenFile and InternetWriteFile broken/changed in IE11 | Microsoft Connect.
Once again thanks to you Nancy & bregent for taking the time to assist me, as without you guys similar problems people have could take a huge toll on them. Keep it up.  :-)
Is there a direct contact for Adobe? Or is this forum it? As I might have to buy a Mac & swap the windows version of DW cs6 to the Mac version. Or would you reccomend another way around it?
    Cheers Chris

  • Some pages won't load in browser, keep looping

I’ve just finished loading all of my content for a new site onto my remote server. The index page works fine, and some of the pages will load, but most of the pages just keep flashing, as if the browser keeps trying to re-load the page over and over again. I'm using IE8.
When I check browser compatibility in Dreamweaver CS3, the errors I get are:
    Unsupported property: zoom
    Unsupported value: 'inline block'
Any idea what could be causing this?

Without seeing the actual web page live, it can only be a guessing game.

  • Mac 10.9.2

After the last update on Mac os 10.9.2 end of April - I opened Pagemaker and my whole system crashed after talkign with Apple, I had to erase everything on my hard drive.  I finally got it fixed and re-installed pagemaker cs5 and a few other program that I HAD to have while I was on vacation.  When I got home, I tried installing CC and various programs (pagemaker, indesign, photoshop etc. Had to erase all of the other adobe programs and start from scratch.  Every time I open ANY adobe products all of my "white space" is pink and white vertical striped in EVERY program. Apple mail, contacts etc.  If I completely shut down the computer and then restart everything is fine until I open an adobe product again.  I can't seem to get any help out of Adobe, does any one have any suggestions before I cancel my subscription entirely?

Well, my work is rather different from Bob's, so I have a different attitude. If I'm working on a project that started as a Pagemaker doc, then it is often very useful to me to be able to go back to PM to perform fixes before importing that file into ID. If you have a lot of Pagemaker files, note that InDesign CC won't open them at al!! So CS6 would be mandatory, if you ever wanted to even look at any of that PM stuff ever again. I actually keep an old mirror-door G4 around with ancient fonts and ancient apps.
However, if I were going to use Mavericks as my day-to-day desktop OS, I wouldn't try to load it down with a bunch of old software. I'd use something like VMWare or VirtualBox to run an older OS. Maybe an instance of 10.4 would be a good compromise?
I don't know anything about backwards compatibility in Dreamweaver; can't help you there.

  • Spry menu bar in IE

I have recently put a new website up which checked out fine for compatibility (using Dreamweaver CS4) and performs well in Firefox and Safari. However a colleague viewing it in IE 10 on a PC ( I am Mac based) says that the Spry Horizontal Menu Bar drop downs disappear behind the image below which is an SWF file (Simple Viewer Gallery).
I wonder if anybody has experienced a similar problem and found a solution to it. I understand that there are many problems associated with Spry and Internet Explorer, having read the many posts on the subject, but I haven't come across this specific one.
    Any help gratefully received.

In a post here (June 3) http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Using/WSEE4C0148-A6F4-4bf5-9DEF-CE06AB026214a .html, the moderator, David Powers, suggests the following...
To prevent submenus from disappearing behind Flash movies, select the Flash movie, and set the Wmode field in the Property inspector to Opaque.
I don't have experience with Flash, but hopefully that will help.

    Hi all,
I'm building a web site and used someone's code to integrate a javascript toolbar. It says in the instructions provided with the toolbar to paste some style code into my css style sheet which I did. It works fine but when I do a browser compatability check dreamweaver complains about this line:

    Anyone understand this?
