Compatibility of Live Drive II with Windows

Can anyone out there help me? My soundblaster card worked fine when I had Windows 98. When I upgraded to 2000 it ceased working and in the end I gave up. Now that I've upgraded again to Windows XP home I'm trying again but when I try to initialise the recording device it tells me it doesn't recognise the soundcard.

Try installing the Li've Uni Dri've package from:

The default XP drivers won't recognise the dri've I think.

Unfortunately the Li've Dri've panel, which was pretty much the entire reason I bought it, hasn't worked since I installed Windows XP years ago. Now I'm up to W7 64 bit and I'm wondering if there's any use trying to reinstall the hardware and make it work or if I should just get rid of it.
In XP and possibly in Vista I could get basic functions out of the card, but the EAX control panel didn't really work anymore. I used to use the remote control, plug in my guitar and use effects, etc. I'd really like to be able to do that again. Anyone know?

Everything works fine BUT it is an old computer and I'm thinking that it may pack up unexpectedly. These things happen. I want to sign up for the Photography plan but I also have a Windows Vista laptop, and that is old too so I may want to put the apps on a new desktop and a new laptop, having already installed on my desktop. That makes three activations. Am I allowed to do this? Cheers. Paul

You cannot have three activations. It's simply not technically possible. If and when the time comes, you simply deactivate/ sign out on one of the old systems and install on the new one. If the system goes belly up, you contact support to reset your account. No need to make it more complicated than that and overthink it.

Well, after looking around the forum here I found an answer that works! I wish I could remember who to give credit too though. I installed the latest Vista drivers and I got static all the time. I tried another members suggestion of disabling the X-Fi device in the Device manager every time I log off and then enable the X-Fi the next time I log in. I have great sound as long as I do that. Also, for connecting to a home system I am using the DTS-60, $00 on this website, but it works well if you havea DTS decoder. I am using the X-Fi extreme Music edition. Good Luck, hopefully another driver is on the way.

Getting Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder work with Windows 8.1 on a GT72-2QD

Has anyone ever used Adobe Flash Media Encoder 3.1 or 3.2 to stream live under Windows 8.1? I can't get it detect an audio device with Windows 8.1 x64 on an MSI GT72-2QD laptop. I tried 2 different webcams but the result was the same. Both the internal mic and the ones going with the webcams work fine with other software but when I try FMLE it looks as follows:
It says that there's no audio device connected (although the mics work fine elsewhere), the source select dropout is blank and the audio parameters are grayed out and inactive even with the "audio" box checked. Both versions of FMLE work fine with the same cams on a desktop which has all the same tech specs but uses Win 7 x64. Running FMLE in Win7 compatibility mode or reinstalling with register cleaning doesn't help. I believe FMLE is getting in conflict either with the Windows 8.1 or with some of the preinstalled software (I haven't installed any programs yet other than the ones that came preinstalled with the laptop and uninstalled the Gamecaster prior to installing Adobe Encoder). What can be done about it other than downgrading to Win7?

Driver issue with Windows 8.1 on new iMac 2013

Just got a brand new iMac and am attempting to install Windows 8.1 on it. The Boot Camp Assistant kept timing out on the support software download so I downloaded Boot Camp 5.0.5033 from Apple support and put that on my external FAT drive.
I was able to get Windows installed, but when I attempted to run setup.exe off of my external drive, I got a "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model" error. I was able to work around this by running bootcamp.msi from a DOS prompt in administrator mode at which point the install seemed to go through successfully.
Despite that, I'm still getting no love on WiFI, bluetooth, audio, etc. I'm attempting to download again through Boot Camp Assistant on the hope that there's a later version for my machine that's not yet available for direct download but am not optimistic.
Any thoughts/ideas would be great appreciated. Note that I am running the latest everything on the Mac side (recent 10.8.5 Combo).

Actually, that link is exactly what got me in trouble. Use Boot Camp Assistant to get the drivers.
As of this writing, Boot Camp 5.0.5033 will not adequately set up your drivers on a new iMac with Windows 8.1.
The only way I was able to get the WiFi working was to use the drivers automatically downloaded by Boot Camp Assistant. Presmably this is a newer version than 5.0.5033 but I haven't been able to find it anywhere else for download.
I should also note that I was having some DirectX issues running graphics intensive software even after updating through Boot Camp Assistant. These were resolved by downloading the latest driver for my video card (GeForce 780M). There might be other issues that will require a manual driver update but I've yet to run into any more.

How come iTunes is not compatable on my Surface tablet with windows 8?

I got this tablet and it wasmeant to replace my older laptop. But everytime i try downloading itunes for my phone, it says 'The app cant be run on my PC". This is a huge reason of why even got the tablet. As i talked to a technician for windows, they said it was up to apple to make it compatible. I was curious when this is going to happen because it not being compatable is a big pain considering how iTunes hold all the info that my iPhone holds.

Okay, here's what's going on:
1. The Windows 8 name is actually applied to two operating systems that are designed to look and feel the same- one for your standard "x86" processors like the ones made by Intel and AMD that power most PCs and laptops, and one for "ARM" (and ARM derivitative) processors, like the ones that frequently power tablets and phones.
2. The x86 Windows 8 devices are backwards compatible with stuff designed for Windows 7 (and Windows Vista, and some Windows XP stuff). So they'll run itunes, etc..
3. The ARM version of Windows 8 devices is only compatible with stuff designed for Windows 8 specifically, usually sold through the Windows 8 store and displayed as a tile on the main screen once purchased (The major exception being Microsoft Office, which can run in desktop mode). This is because stuff designed for Windows 7 and before was compiled for x86 processors, an ARM processor doesn't know what to do with it.
3. Your Surface RT device is powered by an ARM processor, so you have no backwards compatibility.
4. Itunes is right now compiled only for x86 processors, and those will only work with Windows 8 machines with x86 processors, which you don't.
5. Apple may or may not decide to release a version of itunes that's compatible with the ARM version of Windows 8 (frequently referred to as Windows 8 RT). We just don't know, because they haven't said that they will or they won't. Right now there is no compatible version.
6. So your options are to use music software that is compatible with Windows 8 RT (I am guessing it comes with some version of Windows Media Player), wait till Apple comes out with a version of Itunes for Windows RT (Which it may or may not do), or return your Surface RT and buy a more traditional laptop with an Intel or AMD processor instead (The version of Windows 8 that can run on those chips can do itunes in desktop mode).
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I can see where this would be a little confusing. Microsoft probably should have given it's ARM-based operating system a name other than "Windows".

HP PSC 1510 driver issue with Windows 8.1

I can't get my HP PSC 1510 all in one to work with Window's 8.1. I've installed HP doctor and the driver fails. I've downloaded the new driver so I don't know what the issue is? Anybody solve a similar issue?

I can see you're experiencing driver issues. I'd like to help!
I would suggest Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once it is uninstalled, I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration. You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.

Compatability of acrobat 5.0 with Windows 8

I have windows 8 on a new notebook and tried to load my Adobe Acrobat 5.0 from disc, it says there is a compatibility issue, what can be done?

Your Acrobat is quite old, and is not supported on your current operating system. Please see Adobe Acrobat 5 not compatible with Windows 8

PT UML290 driver issue with Windows 8

Installed the windows 8 consumer preview. The operating system says there is a driver error for the usb modem. "Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)" Need an updated driver quick! Researched online and I'm not the only one with this problem

Verizon has no control on releases by manufacturers. If Pantech makes it work then Verizon can deliver it. Windows 8 is a preview and Pantech is more than likely going to wait until the RC phase before doing any major work as beta releases could have major changes which would make you start over because the old code wouldn't work right.

X240 Network Driver issue with Windows PE

HelloI am working with OSD deployment in a big organisation. We are using SCCM 2012 SP1 to deploy new computers with our own image and applications. The new Thinkpad X240 is causing a big problem at the moment since we do not seem to be able to find an appropriate Ethernet network driver for the built-in Intel ethernet interface that is working in winPE 4.0. This is what happens.The computer boots, I press the F12 key, the computer presents a list of bootable devices, I choose the ethernet NIC.The computer PXE boots - it recieves an DHCP address from our server, downloads boot.wim, downloads the boot.winPE.boot.wim file and then starts winPE on the X240. It gets to "Preparing Network Connections", hangs there for a while, and then it reboots.If I use the F8 option and run ipconfig, it reports "Windows IP Configuration" and nothing else. If I run /renew it says "The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation". There seems to be no NIC available to winPE to start the Task Sequence with.I have downloaded the Windows 8 x64 Network driver and the Windows 7 x64 enterprise driver package Network driver from Lenovo, for this model and injected the Network drivers in the WinPe boot file. Neither of these drivers is working with the Network Interface in winPE. We do not have any problems with any other models, they all install with our SCCM 2012 SP1. Hello, I experiencing the strikly same situation with the same configuration :- SCCM 2012 SP1,- SCCM 2012 SP1 Boot Image x86 4.0,- Lenovo X240,- Drivers Lenovo SCCM package for Windows 7 (32-bit) http://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/downloads/ds038819- Task Sequence W7x86. No problem when deploying an adaptated Task Sequence with Lenovo X250. However, WinPE don't allowing the network adapter to get a TCP IP configuration when deploying with Lenovo X240. To resolve this situation, do you use :- the standard boot image in the Windows 8 DVD or a customized one with Windows ADK ?- your boot image is this a x86 type or x64 ?- In case of a customized Boot Image, have you, please, some advice to give to use Windows ADK ? Whenever, I load Adobe XI (which seems to be the only version compatible with Windows 8, I get a "No default mail client" error. has anyone found a solution? Is Adobe working on a fix?
(I use a Dell Lattitude E6530 notebook with Windows 8 and Microsoft Office 2013 64 bit version installed).

Regarding your problem, you need to send some more information like the machine RAM usage and CPU usage when Reader 11 freezes. A screenshot would help.

OWC Mercury Elite Pro External Hard Drive - Share with Windows Machine?

Others on this discussion have recommended the OWC Mercury Elite Pro External Hard Drive. Dumb question: my live-in girlfriend has a Dell XP laptop, and I have a MacBook. If we purchased an OWC hard drive with both firewire and USB, can we both use the external hard drive?

You can certainly use their drives between a Mac and a PC. As mentioned, either format it FAT32 witht he 4GB file size restrictions or partition it.
You can also use a program called MacDrive. It give a Windows machine that ability to read and wtite to HFS+ partitions. I have used it and it works nicely.
There is a timed demo, so you can try it out and see if it meets your needs.

Tecra A2- Display driver compatible with Windows 7?

I've recently upgraded my Tecra A2 to Windows 7 (obviously without checking compatibility). It's working great, but I cannot find a driver (if there is one) for my video card. I've exhausted everywhere on the Toshiba support pages, and forums, and I'm of the impression the only solution is to buy a new card.

Yes it is an older A2, however I've upgraded the RAM from 256MB to 1GB (win7 wouldnt have even operated on it without the upgraded RAM). I upgraded to win7 out of curiosity really. Not dissatisfied with xp, just wanted something different, and the new features on 7 are pretty cool.
If I cannot get a driver, I'll have to source out a win xp disc and reinstall xp, get the old drivers reinstalled, and be content with the fact I have a fully operating computer. I am about to start building my own PC, so it probably wont be that much of a biggy.
Lesson learnt from all this? - Check compatibility before changing your OS!
