Compatibility question with Dreamweaver 8/Coursebuilder

We are putting together our first web-based training using
Dreamweaver 8 with the Coursebuilder extension. We aren't sure just
how involved we will be in web-based training. If we get quite
involved in it and later want to use Authorware, will we be able to
open and use our Dreamweaver 8/Coursebuilder files? Thanks for any
advice.

Well, kinda.
You can load the IE ActiveX contol in Authorware. You could
then use
that control to display the HTML pages. I'm not sure what
that would
really help...but could be that if you have informational
pages you like
the layout of and don't want to recreate in Authorware, you
could use
the ActiveX control to show and navigate between those pages,
then
hide/erase the control when you want to 'return the stage' to
Authorware
for whatever interactions or other information you want to
present.

  • Compatibility question with Nortel phones

    Hello,
I just introduced a Cisco SP200-48P switch into our Nortel environment. When I plug the phone into a POE port, the port is unresponsive (doesn't light up), and the Nortel phone doesn't power up.
The data aspect of the port is fine, when I plug a computer into the switchport.
Am I running into a compatibility issue with Nortel phones, or should they work just fine with the switch right out of the box.
    Thank you,
    John

Hi jdamone, please verify you're using a POE port. The left side of the port banks are POE. The right side are not. If the 1-12 and 25-36 would be POE on a 48 port switch. And yes, if the phone is 802.3af compliant, it should work out of the box, no problems. If you're connecting to the correct port and verified the wire and the phone is POE then the next step would be to upgrade the switch firmware to latest version.

  • Dreamweaver CC may have a compatibility Issue with Dreamweaver CS6?

I installed Dreamweaver CC onto my laptop (Windows 7 OS).  I am able to build new web pages using Fluid Grid Layout.  But when I attempt to open previously designed web pages that were build using Dreamweaver CS6, Dreamweaver CC crashes.
I was told today, in Chat, by Technical Support, that it was a compatibility issue between Dreamweaver CC and Dreamweaver CS6 (for Fluid Grid).  Can this be confirmed?  I have no problems going back and rebuilding previously designed Fluid Grid web pages.  I just want to know that there is no fix/work around available?

    Hi Norv56,
I was alerted of this issue today. Would it be possible for you to send us your files for investigation? It would be difficult for us to investigate without those.
    Thanks,

  • Hardware/Software Compatibility Question With Wireless Repeater

    Hey Discussions,
This is a simple question that's more along the lines of a hardware issue. I havea wireless connection in my building that I need to boost so I will be able to have a stronger and faster connection. From what I've gathered in my newbie networking skills, I'll need a wireless repeater to accomplish this task.
I need two things from the masses:
A suggestion for a wireless repeater (preferably one that's universal, as I don't know anything about the router that is supplying the Internet...don't ask.)
And a simple way to set this up so it will be able to work with both my Mac mini and a laptop running Windows XP.
Sound easy enough, yet I can't figure anything out. Any help will be appreciated!
    -Mateo

You're heading down a slippery slope. Be careful.
Frist, define why you think you need to boost the signal.
When you're connected, how many 'bars' do you have on your AirPort signal strength meter? If that's low, then fair enough, otherwise something else is going on and a repeater might not help.
For example, your connection could be slow because there are many people using the wireless network (the wireless bandwidth is shared between all wireless clients.
It could also be slow because your upstream link (from the base station to the rest of the network) is saturated
It could also be slow if the server you're using is overloaded (especially if you're using a proxy server that's proxying all your web traffic since that would affect all sites, not just one).
If you have a good signal then a repeater (e.g. WDS) is going to degrade performance, not increase it, so it's important to determine the cause before you try to implement a 'fix'.

  • Insert Flash with Dreamweaver CS3 Question

So I have been building websites for awhile and have always relied on the built in insert flash object that came with dreamweaver as I have never had issues with it.
However as I finished a site recently the client had a friend look at it and brought up the red flag that the site was not w3 compliant.  So I go and look at the little tool they have and the only error that comes up is related to the insertion of flash on the page.
I googled it a bit and found a number of people saying that the insert flash through dreamweaver will no show up as compliant.  A couple solutions to fix the problem.
But before I go down that road, I want to ask. ...Does it really matter here?  Seems like Dreamweaver insertion would be compliant? I mean come on the link that the w3 give to fix the problem is a link from a fix created in 2002.
I have never heard of anyone saying no the flash does not show up so right off I am not terribly concerned but it would be nice to know..
Also if it is important and suggestions as to a nice fix to the issue would be great.
    Thanks for your time,
    Chris

    Right you are!
I tend to spot check pages and haven't done a W3C check on a flash embed in my websites (apparently). Just did one pursuant to your question. The page is 100% compliant without the Flash video. has 51 errors, 35 warnings with it. Lots of those errors are Adobe-generated Javascript that handles the flash video insert, skins it and so on.
Here is where Adobe may not be compliant with the W3C.

  • Question about Dreamweaver Native Mobile Apps with PhoneGap

I am trying to determine the best way to build an app for my business.  It doesn't need to be anything fancy, but needs a clean UI that is easy to navigate and interfaces with an online database.  The PhoneGap intergration with Dreamweaver 5.5 seems really intriguing, but before I spend the $650 to upgrade my creative suite, I had some questions.
Doing some research, I have found multiple references to apps created in this way running slowly.  Noticable lapses on button pushes, pages loading slowly, etc.  Is this an issue and if it is, is there any way to get around it?
Idealy, I would deploy my app to both Android and iOS devices, how smoothly does that run?  I have some basic knowledge of both Java and Objective-C, but using dreamweaver seems to be quite a timesaver.
If anyone has any input or comments about using Dreamweaver to create native mobile apps I would love to get some feedback.  Thanks!

PhoneGap builds mobile apps with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You cannot use a server-side language, such as PHP, with PhoneGap.
Presumably, you want to connect with a MySQL database on a remote server. To do so, you would need to use Ajax to send and receive data from the MySQL database. You can use jQuery to send and receive data as JSON. PHP has JSON functions that decode and encode data as JSON strings.
How difficult or easy you would find setting this up depends on your knowledge of jQuery and PHP. I don't know of any tutorials that show how to pull everything together for PhoneGap, but it shouldn't be too difficult to find tutorials for using jQuery Ajax to communicate with MySQL.

  • Problem with Dreamweaver CS4 after upgrade to Lion

I am having a problem after upgrading to Lion,  with my  Dreamweaver CS4 . When I try to use the bold button the text completely dissapears from the screen in design view The text is still there as it shows up in preview and also shows up in  code view. Has anyone else had similar problems since the upgrade? and is there going to be a fix for it.

  • Having trouble with dreamweaver cs 6 spry tabbed panels, all content in each tab showes through like

Having trouble with dreamweaver cs 6 spry tabbed panels, all content in each tab showes through like it was all created on one page, plus mouse over doesnt work on them.
This started all of a sudden.
The entire website is a series of spry tabbed panels.
    http://pacificlaser.com/const.html
if you click on General construction tab things work ok...
if you click on Machine control tab, mouse over doesnt work and all page content of each tab show through.
ive been looking for the answer for 4 months with no success.
Hope a fellow dreamwever-person can help
    Thanks Rick

You called it: your links to the SpryAssets are linking to your hard drive, not to the files within the folder on the server.
    Correct these links:
    <script src="file:///C:/Users/work/Desktop/Sites/SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <link href="file:///C:/Users/work/Desktop/Sites/SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
And you should be good to go.
    Beth
ps. If you run into more difficulties with the Spry Widgets, take your questions to the Dreamweaver Spry Forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/spry, where they will get quicker attention.

  • Using a MsAccess database with Dreamweaver CS4?

    Hi Everyone,
I have a question concerning using a Microsoft Access Database with Dreamweaver.
First, I was wondering if this was possible. Second, if it is, could someone give me instructions or a link on how to do this. I am pretty new to Dreamweaver, code, etc..., so simpler instructions on how to acheive this would be great.
    Here is some information...
    1) I am running Windows XP SP2
    2) I am using Microsoft Office 2003 (Acces included)
    3) I am using Dreamweaver CS4
    4) I have installed XAMMP (Apache,MySQL, FileZilla, and PHPmyAdmin, as far as I know)
If anyone needs more information, I'll be hapy to share it as soon as possible.
    Any help is greatly appreciated,
    Musicman1994

The choice of database really depends on which server-side technology you plan to use, and what you're actually planning to use it for.
Access was designed to create databases for small office systems. Although I personally found it very confusing, a lot of people like it and say it's easy to use. However, its major drawback is that it creates very large files; and as soon as the website gets a reasonable amount of traffic, Access has a tendency to freeze or lock up. You can create your database in Access and then export it to another database system, such as Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL. But it's better to start with the database that you ultimately plan using.
I certainly wouldn't recommend developing anything in ASP and then attempting to convert the website to PHP. Although all server-side programs share common features and structures, the code is completely different. So, take some time over choosing your technology first. If you have never developed in ASP, you should be aware that Microsoft stopped developing it about ten years ago. It's still popular and widely available, but ASP is likely to dwindle in usefulness as the years go by. Use PHP or ColdFusion, both of which are supported by Dreamweaver. The other main alternative is ASP.NET, but that's no longer supported by Dreamweaver.

  • Compatibility issues with mac OS - Lightroom 4 works where CS5 won't

Hope someone can shed some light on this issue...
I tried installing Lightroom 4 on Mac OS 10.6.1 (which is currently running CS5 without issues) but the specs call for OS 10.6.8 or later (10.7). When I updated my OS to 10.6.8, none of my CS5 apps work! They encounter launch errors - InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver... only Photoshop seems to work. So, I reverted back to OS 10.6.1 and all the programs function. Is Adobe working on a solution to fix this issue? I see with the forums that several other users have noted the same issue with CS5 not working in the OS 10.6.8 environment. I don't want to upgrade my OS just to have Lightroom function, but none the CS apps. I was thinking of partitioning my HD to load both OS, but that shouldn't be the workaround. I am very disappointed that I've purchased Lightroom 4 and now am unable to use it due to compatibility issues with the OS with the rest of CS5.0.

Pixelzboy are you receiving any specific errors when launching your applications under 10.6.8?  CS5 should work just fine with 10.6.8 as well as 10.7.3.  You may also want to post to the product specific forums with your launch errors as the users in those forums will be more familiar with troubleshooting steps specific to those products.

  • Edit Existing Site With Dreamweaver

Im sure this question has been asked 100 times but how do I edit an existing site (published and on the web) with Dreamweaver CS5.5? I took over as webmaster last month at a company and would like to edit the companys website. How do I download the files off the web? I can do it with Contribute but not Dreamweaver.

Create a local site folder in DW.  Site > Manage Sites > New.
Go to Advanced > Remote info and enter your log in-details (FTP, host URL, username, password).
    Test connection to server.
    Then GET files from server.

    G'day Folxs
Just installed Forte as a Simple Server on a Digital UNIX (v4.0d) box (being
a VMSbot it was much easier than I thought). We want to use it to interface
with an existing web client. The Forte part is to provide us a scalable
access path to Oracle DBs on the VMS machine; already running Forte.
I'm having trouble finding media that contains C++ v5.4.-006 for the Unix
box. Does anyone know of/has used higher versions of C++ without too much
drama? How about v5.7 or even v6.1? We will be using extensive C++
    interfacing to existing web pages!
NB: The current web system client is compiled using EGCS 2.91.66.

  • Open URL with Dreamweaver

I'm a webdeveloper who works with tons of different pages each day.  Many of these are sent as URLs by others in the organization, via email, etc.
To increase efficiency, I'd like to use our testing environment to automatically open URLs with Dreamweaver.  So, basically, open a URL in the test environment (test.example.com/testing123.html), then have a link on the page to open that exact page with Dreamweaver.
Question is....does anyone know a way to open a specific file with a specific desktop application from the browser??

In Firefox, you can click file and Save Page As, then save the page as an HTML file. Under Tools>Options or Firefox>Preferences (Mac) you can go to the Applications tab and add HTML as a file type and select DW as the default app to open them.
Personally, I'd caution against that because it messes up things that you really should be using Firefox or IE to open. (CHMs or application help files for example).

My shortcut icons on my desktop and icons in my programme list have all changed to photoshop logos and only now open photoshop with exception of the ebay shortcut and the email and internet logo in the programme list.  Is there a compatability issue with Windows Vista or an update that resolves this ?

This is a forum, not a live chat. Expecting an answer within 3 minutes is just not, erm well, clever. To answer your question: No, PSE 6 is not compatible with Win 8. You need to upgrade to PSE 11.
