Compatibility with old IE-optimized web sites

Hello,
I'm experiencing some issues with a couple of my company websites that are optimized for an old version of Internet Explorer. I mean that using the new IE10 I need to use the option of "Compatibility view" to display the web pages correctly. Using Safari in my OS X environment is pratically impossible to display the web pages correctly. I can't manage to find any solution, I have tried to:
Use Chrome, Firefox and Opera
Install IE7 using Wine in OS X, but the results are very poor
This is a real problem for me because I can't use my Mac at work because of this issue. Is there any workaroud for such this problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Update the websites to be compatible with other browsers. If they use AtiveX they cannot be read by a Mac, and web sites that only work with IE are hopelessly outdated and will not attract business.

Try this: after you have logged into a problem page, open another tab or window with http://validator.w3.org/ and paste in the URL of that page, which will reveal any noncompliance with standards.

Optimized websites are a far cry from prior "WAP" or "mobile" sites. They're generally text only and very limited in what they can display. iPhone optimized sites are simply sites optimized for a touch interface (interface widgets of a certain size and other tips listed here. http://developer.apple.com/iphone/devcenter/designingcontent.html )
They are still able to use the full power of Safari to create really sophisticated and graphic powered interfaces. In some cases, the site can also be designed so as to be an easier download over EDGE. As long as the site author allows me to choose a full version of their site by choice (when I have WiFi), then I've no problem with optimized sites.

Backwards compatibility with old mac software.

A relative and I want to run some old software that (I'm assuming) would run on Mac os 3.2 or under. There are many possibilities on how to run this program. We could find an old macintosh & run it from there, buy an old version of mac os (possibly 9), or download the old os and run it from a virtualization (as long as its legal). Iv'e done a bunch of research, and noticed from OS X and up, the line of operating systems are coded differently then the older releases. So, in theory, would Mac OS 9 be able to run software from os 3.2 and under?
Optional question:
I understand that apple owns there software, and there agreement says you may run their software on their computers, (thus meaning the software is free, but the disc is not), but does that mean I can download the old operating system off the internet since its free? (or does apple have a copyright?) I want to make sure before I do anything wrong.

If you could post the name and exact version of the program in question, someone may be able to offer more specific advice.
Apple would probably not appreciate if their software is made available via third-party web sites. However, you can download complete system software 6.0.3, 6.0.5, 6.0.8, 7.0, 7.0.1 and 7.5.3 directly from Apple:

At least temporary access to a working older (pre-1998) Macintosh computer is typically required in order to produce floppy disks from downloaded files.
You may want to test whether, for example, System 6.0.8 (on a suitable Mac model) is compatible with the old program. Before you begin at all, it is usually not a bad idea to lock (write-protect) any old floppies, and then make backup copies of them (using a program such as Disk Copy 4.2).

Email link to a pdf with text anchor on web site

I'm trying to create an email with a link to a web site's pdf file with a text anchor. I want the link to take the reader not just to the pdf file but to a certain location in the pdf file. I'm creating the pdf with the text anchor in Indesign 4. It's not working. Is this even possible?

Facebook has not been loading properly for me since Feb. 22/14. Can you please check what is wrong with Firefox. The web-site Facebook works fine on Safari.

I've had issues with Facebook not loading certain areas of the web-site correctly or fully since Feb. 22. When I first go onto Facebook I am on the home page "news feed". Thing is when I click on the tab at the bottom of the news feed that says "see more", nothing is happening. It refuses to open the feed up to older posts which friends or myself have posted. Only about 6 - 8 posts at the max show on that home feed. That's it.
My other issue, also in Facebook is when I go to access my "messages". First click on the tab "messages" brings up a white page. Then if I refresh the page to see if it will load, the messages page loads very weird. It shows the last message I may have replied to at the bottom of the screen, but over lapping on top of the list of previous messages to the left of the page. Plus the page appears extremely different than it should. Just like it's been re-formatted or whatever.
Since these 2 issues started on Saturday afternoon I've switched over to the Safari browser on my iMac. On that browser Facebook is performing properly, as it should be. It's not overlapping messages. Plus the home feed isn't refusing to extend for me so that I may view older stories or posts by friends. All appears fine while accessing Facebook on the Safari browser. Not so while on Firefox. I am running the most up to date version of Firefox. "27.0.1" Plus I have a habit to clear the browser's history daily & restarting the browser as well as my iMac. So I do not believe those are my problems. I feel there may be something you guys there at Firefox should look into on this.

Firefox will not work with our library's web site, creating inconvenience for many users. Ideas?

The Marin COunty(Calif) web site is interactive, allowing us to reserve or renew books on line....The new Firefox will not allow this interaction, so I wonder if you could fix the problem+?

Is there only a problem with the login or are there other problems?
Is all data send correctly to the server?

I can can upload photos to my facebook page and the same problem with our fat cow web site. We can upload from both chrome and safari with no problem. Upgraded from 8.03 to 9.0 and same problem???

Compatibility with old IAS procedures

From the documentation I understand that PLSQL gateway procedures are now prefixed with '/pls/[DADName]'.. in my case '/pls/people'. This is instead of the old style '/[DADName]/plsql/' that IAS8 defaulted to.
Currently I have a Production database still using IAS and it has some procedures that refer to '/people/plsql' in some code. The development database is already using OAS9i and the code has been changed to point to the new references.
However, to help smooth out the upgrade of production I'm hoping there is some easy way to force the path '/people/plsql' to be rewritten on the fly to '/pls/people' so that the old procedures will still work.
I briefly tried using the mod_rewrite facility in Apache but it appears on the surface to only work with static files (it didn't redirect the PLSQL calls, but a test of directories with 'fake' plsql files provide the rewrite rule was working kinda).
Is there some other syntax I need to use for mod_rewrite to work with mod_plsql or is there some other way to force OAS to understand the old syntax?

Compatability with Java 5 EE Web Services

I am new to Flash 8. I am trying to consume a web service
that is running on my Java EE 5 (GlassFish) application server.
First, can anyone comment on compatability of Flash 8 with web
services not created with Cold Fusion.
I am able to connect and execute a sample web (wsdl at
http://www.flash-mx.com/mm/tips/tips.cfc?wsdl).
This works for me.
But when I try to call a very simple service that I have
defined using Java JAX-WS, I don't see a response. I have attached
action script code and xml for my wsdl.
Most samples and tutorials that I have seen so far involve
web services defined in ColdFusion. However, what I need to do in
my Flash 8 document is directly access a web service defined and
running in Jave EE 5 environment. Does Flash 8 support this type of
interoperability? Can anyone provide some hints on how to get this
working?

I've been running into the same problem, having JAX-WS
generating the WSDL for me and Flash telling me that it cannot
consume the corresponding Web Service.
According to an article I found on the Developer Center site

), "Flash MX Professional 2004 does not support web services that
use the import tag". I haven't been able to find any reference that
indicates whether this has changed for Flash 8.
I tried to contact the author of the article (who is no
longer with Adobe), but so far she has ignored my attempts.
Our problem thus may lie in the Flash's inability to process
the import tag, although this has at least been part of the
specification since WSDL 1.1.
There has been no mentioning of a true workaround for this:
the JAX-WS people don't offer an option to have the schema created
inline - and IMHO rightfully so. They hold their end of the deal
(generating a WSDL document that is valid according to the
standard) for which they used the most flexible option (it allows
for reuse of schemas between multiple WSDL definitions).
The only thing I guess you can do is manually inline the
separate XSD file(s) into the WSDL file and then feed it to
Flash...
It is up to the Flash developers to fix this problem and have
their tool comply with the official W3C standards. It cannot be
that such a widely used tool renders itself obsolete by
disregarding interoperability with other widely used
technologies...
Sorry I cannot be of more help. Seems I'm stuck with the same
problem for now as well...or maybe someone out there has better
insights and helps us out?

Help with picture deleting on web site

I recently changed a video clip on my blog page and replaced it with a new one.The problem is that although i thought i deleted it, It now shows up on the lower portion of the screen when i access the web page....It does not appear on the iweb blog page, so I cannot delete it again.The question is "Do I have to delete the whole page and start again or is there a way of deleting it off the website while online?" Any help would be greatly appreciated.Oh yes and It usually doesnt appear on the first hit on the blog page, It is there when I access it the second time.

I do see what you are talking about and it does not seem to be a cache issue. Here is a screenshot of the offending pic....
The strange thing is that it doesn't stay put. I can minimize the browser window and when I bring it back up it disappears....but it reappears as soon as I start scrolling the window again. I cannot reproduce the problem in FireFox...only in Safari. This could be related to the QT video.
I guess I would recommend doing a "Publish All to .Mac" in order to lay your site files down all at once....get the gremlins out of the system. Another suggestion I'd like to make to you is to run your video clip through iSquint to make it playable while it is downloading (so you don't sit there waiting with the big Q logo). Issue with Self Signed Certificate Web Sites

I tried searching, but wasn't really getting the answer or help I needed so I figured I would just start a new topic. At my work we have a test server that we use for development and we have a couple of Web Services on there that use Self Signed Certificates. At work, I have a PC (Windows 7) and a Mac Mini (OS X) both of which can connect to the Web Services just fine. But at home, I can't access any of the Web Services at all, my browsers and Xcode keep timing out. I know the Web Service is public, I've accessed it before from other machines outside of work it's just at home I can't. I have an iMac at home, with a linksys router and I don't know if it's a setting on my home computer or network that could be causing it but I don't even get the message in Safari, Chrome or Firefox that the site has a self signed or bad certificate so I know something isn't letting me communicate. Any help would be great (all of the answers I have found suggested to purchase a certificate, which in this case isn't appropriate since they are used for Development until we feel they are ready for production in which case we purchase the certificate). I tried an other lumia800, the https page worked.
The difference of the two phone was only the language
My phone language was english (US), the other was hungarian.
After that, I switched my phone language settings to hungarian, and tada... the self signed https page worked.
I switched back to english(US) and stopped working.
than I tried english(GB) and worked again.
I did not try other languages, but it looks, if I use english-US language, I cannot see any invalid certificated page
In other language settings, there is no problem.

How do I get Firefox 5 to work with FAFSA data entry web site @ed.gov which only allows Firefox 3.6 or earlier?

Site blocks usage of Firefox 4 and Firefox 5. Is there a way to get Firefox 5 to tell the site I'm using Firefox 3.6? Can I use a portable version of Firefox 3.6 without scrambling Firefox 5 (I don't like this option because there isn't an official portable version, but it's probably better than IE.)?
BTW, this is a fundamental customer (as opposed to enterprise) support issue being created by the new release schedule. It doesn't matter how good Firefox is if I can't use it.

I doubt is this is an issue with the Fast Release schedule, more like an issue with a website that is incorrectly screening the user agent of the browsers being used, or with a website that hasn't been updated for a browser that was released over three months ago.

Macbook pro compatibility with old mac software!??

Hello! I just got my Macbook pro, and i wanted to know if there was any way to get my old games from my oldschool PowerMac from like 1994 to play on it......it says its not compatible...and that makes me sad..

If your old games are OS 9 programs, then they will not run on the Intel Macs. There is an emulator called SheepShaver (www.macupdate.com) that will run OS 9. Then there's the Mini vMac that emulates an old Mac Plus.
If it's a PPC application and doesn't work then it simply isn't compatible with Rosetta.

I need to connect with LiveCycle Server version 9.0. I tried to do with LiveCycle Workbench ES4, but I couldn't, because this version of workbench is incompatible with this LiveCycle Server. I research in the web for a workbench version ES2, but I didn't find it. Are there a way to get this workbench version? Are there a way to connect with LiveCycle Server 9.0 from LiveCycle Workbench ES4?
I couldn't update LiveCycle Server and I need to modify a service inside.

You cannot use LiveCycle ES2 workbench with LiveCycle ES4 server. In order to connect to ES2 server with workbench, you need to download ES2 workbench form below link:
