Compatibility with SFP modules

Hi,
I have a query, I need connect a Switch 6500 with a switch HP, the switch HP has a HP X242 10 SFP module and need connect to the switch 6500 with a module CVR-X2-SFP10G. I need to know if this modules are compatible.
Thanks for the help.

According to the 6500 module installation manual, and a Q&A document,
"Q. What is the difference between WS-X6716-10G-3C and WS-X6716-10G-3CXL?
A. Both modules offer 16 ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet and share the same base board, WS-X6716-10GE. WS-X6716-10G-3C comes with distributed forwarding card 3C (WS-F6700-DFC3C), and WS-X6716-10G-3CXL comes with distributed forwarding card 3CXL (WS-F6700-DFC3CXL)."
"A sticker is placed on the module faceplate identifying it as either a WS-X6816-10G-2T or WS-X6816-10G-2TXL depending on whether a WS-F6K-DFC4-E or WS-F6K-DFC4-EXL daughter card is installed on the module."
"Not all 10-GB transceiver versions may be supported on your module. Refer to your software release notes to determine if a specific 10-GB transceiver is supported on your module."
It seems you will need to determine which daughter card or forwarding card is installed in the base WS-C6716-10GE board; then refer to the software release notes for transceiver compatibility.  The longer reach SFP+ copper or active optical interfaces draw more power, thus they may not be supported with the X2 to SFP+ converter.

  • 6500-E with SUP720 compatibility with 10g module

    I have 6509-E chasis with supervisor VS-S720-10G.
I need to add a new WS-X6708-10G-3C= module to this same chasis.
As per the cisco datasheet both the cards and the supervisor are compatible, just need to confirm this.

WS-X6708-10G-3C will never be compatible with Sup2T.  The Sup2T has DFC4/PFC4 and the card has DFC3/PFC3 card which cannot be upgraded.

  • Sfp-ge-s= is it compatable with a glc-sx-mm

Could I have a sfp-ge-s= on one side of a multimode fiber link and a glc-sx-mm= on the other side of the link and you were within the correct distance from each other.  Will they talk to each other if they are the same wavelength. Is there a chart somewhere interfaces will work with each other and what won't.
    Thanks

    Hi,
I don't know of a chart that shows which transceivers are compatible with each other, but the transceivers you mention are both 1000BASE-X transceivers using 850nm wavelength on mulitmode fibre so should have no issues.
From the Cisco Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver Modules Compatibility Matrix:
SFP-GE-S= 1000BASE-SX SFP transceiver module for MMF, 850-nm wavelength, extended operating temperature range and DOM support, dual LC/PC connector
GLC-SX-MM= 1000BASE-SX SFP transceiver module for MMF, 850-nm wavelength, dual LC/PC connector

  • Cisco MDS 9148 compatibility with Finisar FTLF-8524-P2BNV SFP+

    Hello,
I have a Cisco MDS 9148 switch with Finisar FTLF-8524-P2BNV SFP+ modules. I am told by the guys configuring the equipment that these modules are not identified in the switch interface.
I am curious if there could be a compatibility problem (I have not found a compatibility list) or any other issue which could cause the behaviour.
    Thank you

  • WS-X6848-SFP module are supported with LMS Prime 4.1 and 4.2

    Hi,
I would like to know if WS-X6848-SFP modules are supported with LMS Prime 4.1 and 4.2.
    Thanks for your help,
    SILVIA

It looks like they just added the WS-X6848-TX variant with the latest C6000IOS CiscoView package update (Version 37, dated 31 July 2012 - readme)
I'd expect the -SFP variant should be in the next update.
You should open a TAC case to make sure that it's brought to the attention of the dev team if they aren't already working on it. One of the tenets of Cisco Prime LMS is "Day 1 support" of new devices.

  • Gbic SFP Module doesn't work with SFE2010

    Hi All,
Have a question, we have installed 2 SFE2010 via Fiber, i notice that there is no link acttivity on the switch, I have tested the fiber with Dlink Media Convertor and it works. I really need help on this. What do i do ? i have tested with 1 side SFE2010 and the other side Media Convertor. It doesnt work. Do i need to enable the SFP port manually, by default is enabled. Fiber is a multimode. so is there SFP and there Media Convertor
    Regards
    Joel

    Joel,
You have not provided lots of specifics about the SFP modules in question. Some 100 Meg SFPs require you to manually set the port speed in the GUI before the SFP will be recognized, so you can try that. Otherwise, suggest you open a case with the Support organization. The contact numbers can be found at the following link:

  • SFP module with high temperature!!!

    Hi everybody,
i have a switch Cisco 3750-12G with some SFP modules in high temperature. The site have air condioner. What can i do???
    Regards,

Is the switch covered by a Cisco contract? If so, open a TAC case with Cisco and you will probably get a hardware replacement.

  • Cisco 3925 and SFP modules

I'm trying to install a MGBSX1 into the Cisco 3925 but it's doesn't seem it's detecting it for some reason.
I've changed media type and I've tested with another SFP module (GLC-SX-MM) which works fine.
Am I missing a command to enable this type of module on the Cisco 3925?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Looking at the SFP compatability table for 39XX series routers.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/routers/3900-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/relevant-interfaces-and-modules.html#formfactor
    The MGBSX1 is NOT mentioned
Looks like the MGBSX1 is only compatable with the Small Business switch family.

  • Disabled GBIC SFP module

I have 2 WS-3750-48PS switches in a stack, i have today installed 2 x MGBSX1 sfp's to link new fibre to other building on the grounds.
I have now got 2 types of error messages showing :-
    EVENT NOTIFICATION -
Description: Gi1/0/3: This port has been disabled because Non Compliant  Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) connector detected.
Recommendation: Replace connector with cisco compliant Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) connector. Refer switch technical documentation to determine cisco compliant connector. Enable the port again.
    SYSTEM MESSAGES
unfortunately i haven't got the full message but it was saying thet there was a CRC error in the EEPROM and that maybe a software update would rectify the problem.
The stack is running 12.2(35)SE5-IP-BASE software at the moment and i have seen on a Cisco page that ALL cwdm sfp's are compatible with my switches (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps4999/products_tech_note09186a00807a30d6.shtml#support3)
Should i upgrade the software to 12.2.55-SE3 ?

The reason for the Non Compliant error message is that the MGBSX1 sfp is not a "compatible" product with the WS-3750-48PS switch, per the following compatibility document:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6981.html#wp137837
According to the document you referenced, the following statement may be the reason you are receiving CRC errors on the port.
    "Use Third Party SFP Modules
The use of third party SFP transceivers with Cisco devices is not supported by Cisco. Cisco-approved SFP modules have a serial EEPROM that contains the module serial number, the vendor name and ID, a unique security code, and cyclic redundancy check (CRC). When an SFP module is inserted in the switch, the switch software reads the EEPROM to verify the serial number, vendor name and vendor ID, and recomputes the security code and CRC. If the serial number, the vendor name or vendor ID, the security code, or CRC is invalid, the software generates this security error message and places the interface in an error-disabled state."

  • I Need PHP 5.3 no longer avail in a VC6 compatable with Apache 2.2.15

I appologize if this question is already answered somewhere (I did search a bit)..
    1. I have written a significant amount of my site using functions only available in PHP 5.3+ (ie not in PHP5.2)
    ( see php.net /manual/en/migration53.new-features.php )
    2. PHP (in thier infinite wisdom) have decicided that not only is there no longer a VC6 (ie Apache 2.2.15 compatable) build of php 5.3.6 but they removed the 5.3.3 build and are offering only 5.2.17 in a VC6 build suitable for use with the version of Apache built into FMS4.
(see windows.php.net/download/ and note the lines:
Do NOT use VC9 version with apache.org binaries.
    and
VC9 versions of Apache can be fetched at Apache Lounge. We use their binaries to build the Apache SAPIs.)
    3. The FMS4 documentation says:
    (see help.adobe.com/en_US/flashmediaserver/configadmin/WSE2A5A7B9-E118-496f-92F9-E295038DB7DB. html#WS02f7d8d4857b1677-469e53bb12984254411-8000
The recommended approach to upgrading the Apache web server is to install or build the Apache server in a directory that is separate from the existing server. Then copy the contents of newly-installed directories to the existing server.
In most cases, you do not replace the existing Apache configuration files with the newer versions of these files. This is because the Apache web server installation for Flash Media Server is pre-configured with specific modules and settings.)
    My Question is:
Does this even work? I sounds like a REALY BAD idea to me to instal a version of Apache built to use the Visual C 9 runtime and then kludge in an httpd.conf file that starts loading modules that were built to interact with a version that uses the Visual C 6 library. Has anyone actually done this successfully???
I don't blame the FMS developers here (well except for the really bad idea of making Apache "part" of the FMS package in the first place) but you a shipping with a version of Apache that is incompatable with PHP! (OK, the _latest versions_ of PHP.. but that still makes this _your_ problem.. and a big problem at that if you ask me).
    Suggestions?

    # This section includes everything in the Apache 2.2.19 httpd.conf file's module load section.
    # The modules named in the FMS version of the httpd.conf file are _almost_ a subset of the 2.2.19 collection but
    # many statements are "live" only in the FMS version.

  • SFP module not showing up as interface choice

    I am trying to configure a 3825 router w/IOS 12.4(3d).
When I install a GLC-SX-MM module, I cannot see the module in the sh diag results and therefore not a choice in the list of interfaces.
When I view the logs, the insertion is logged.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
There are two Gigabit Ethernet ports on Cisco 3800 Series systems. Port 1 is a fixed 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45. Port 0 can choose between 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 and an SFP module slot. SFP modules are optional.
A new command-line interface (CLI) allows you to choose between the two media types. The "SFP" option will only come up if there is a SFP module plugged into the slot. RJ-45 is the default.
Please see the following configurations to get this port working:
    Cisco3825#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
    Cisco3825(config)#interface gigabitEthernet 0/0
    Cisco3825(config-if)#media-type ?
    rj45 Use RJ45 connector
    sfp Use SFP connector
    Cisco3825(config-if)#media-type sfp
After this you should be able to use and see the SFP on the router. Hope this helps. :)

  • FAS2554 UTA2 Ports SFP+ Module requirement

Hello, Have anyone know the Netapp FAS2554 UTA2 Ports have any specific requirement for the SFP+ module?(I means if I purchase one other brand SFP+ moudule, it is possible to comptiable with UTA2 ports?) Thanks in advanced!

Hi, From Hardware universe : The onboard UTA2 ports can be configured as FC Target/Initiator or CNA (FCoE target/Ethernet). The UTA2 ports are based on a dual port ASIC and both ports on each ASIC must be set to the same mode (enforced by Data ONTAP). Install X6589-R6 10GbE SFP+ modules or approved copper twinax cables when using in CNA (FCoE target/Ethernet) mode. Install X6596-R6 16Gb FC SFP+ module when using in FC Target/Initiator mode.  Thanks
