Compatible 11n routers

Hi, I was wondering if any C2D users had enabled their 11n and used it successfully with draft-n routers. I am looking to buy a draft-n router and I definetly dont wanna get the Airport Extreme BaseStation which costs 30% more than 3rd party routers, and is also missing an adsl modem which I require!
Some models I'm aware of are:
Netgear DG834N, WNR834B, WNR854T
Linksys WAG300N, WRT300N
D-Link DIR-635, DSL-2740B
I'm only really asking if you've seen reasonable improvement in perfomance by enabling the 11n (e.g. you can copy huge chunks of data to other computers upto 2-3 times faster, or the signal is much stronger in areas where it was hard to get - i.e. the router's draft-n is compatible with the mac).
If your router is not listed as draft-n compliant, or you don't have a C2D MBP but the first generation MBP, then obviously no point listing your router!
Hopefully this list will be useful to others looking to buy a compatible draft-n router as well.

  • Compatible Gigabit Wireless 802.11n Routers?

    Hi,
Is anyone aware which currently available routers with gigabit ports & 802.11n are proven to work with .n enabled MacBook Pros?
I realise that depending on where you are in the world, not too many are even on the market as yet but I've read about a few, namely the Linksys WRVS4400 and the D-LINK DIR655 which are available but I can't find out if they will actually work with the MacBooks. Linksys are also bringing out what look like 2 great routers in the near future (WRT350N & WRT330N) but again, who's to say if they will actually work with non-Linksys kit.
    Any experiences appreciated.
    Cheers

  • Do 802.11n routers support SRX?

I currently have a WRT54GX (with SRX). Some computers that need to connect to the router are currently too far away to connect via plain vanilla 802.11g. I got SRX cards for them and they work great.
I now want to upgrade to a pre-N router, but I don't want to have to buy pre-N cards as well. My question is: are any of the Linksys pre-N routers backward-compatible with SRX?
    Thanks!
    Santiago

yes , the N-devices are backward compatible with the SRX devices , because they both work on the same technology i.e MIMO ( Multiple Input Multiple Output )...i hope this answers your query...

  • 801.11n routers

    Hi all, newcomer here.
I'm interested in FIOS, but my current home network is 801.11n (or is that 802.11n? I'm suddenly confused) based.
From everything I can see FIOS routers are only b/g protocols, which are substantially slower. Since I have quite a bit of wireless networking (and potential interference on the 2.4Ghz band) this seems to be a bit of a problem.
Since I have wireless mice/keyboards on two of my 3 computers, wireless speakers on my one TV, I'm routing files from a media server and have Windows Home server and a wireless printer I really, really would like the bulk of my Internet to be in the 5.4Ghz band.
I'd appreciate any observations you guys might have.
    Thanks.

Don't switch. I say that due to service. Do they support other routers? Well, they don't even support their own! I had Comcast. Could use wireless in my backyard. While sitting within 4 feet of therouter, I can't go wireless with Actiontec without consistent "link broen", page can't be found messages. They installed last Monday. Nothing but torture trying to get it working right and working with Techs. Finally got them to agree to send an installer back on Saturday. He walked in and said "I'm no computer expert"...and he didn't have another router. Tried to blame the problem on my pc. Verizon wireless, and more importantly, their service is trash!

  • Mac compatible Wired Routers?

I just bought an xBox 360. i bought a Linksys wired router thinking i could put the ethernet cable from my 360 and the ethernet cable from my DSL in there so i could use them at the same time. Well, the router came with a setup Cd that I can't run on my Mac. All I thought I had to do was hook up the wires since it hooks up to my modem and not my computer like a wireless one would.
So I guess i have a few questions. Is there still a way I can use this thing? and if not, are there Wired routers for the Mac I can get? I found this off a google search: http://www.macwireless.com/html/products/access_points/router.php
I'm not sure if it's ok or not, i'll let you guys decide.
Basically, all I want is a way that my family can use the internet at the same time as i'm playing on Live.

On the CD that came with the Linksys router is the Linksys User's guide. It describes how to use a web browser to configure the Linksys router.

  • Compatible wireless routers with AT&T Uverse

Hi, I am presently stuck with the Motorola NVG router which does not support 5GHz wireless, 1 Gbps ethernet, 802.11ac, or (and probably the one thing you can't work around) configurable QoS- stadnard features for modern wireless routers. I was wondering if it was possible to replace my current modem which is clearly selectected to be the cheapest thing possible that barely does the job with a device with those features that would still work with my U-Verse internet connection as well as my U-Verse TV PVR. I am not talking about a second router to create a DMZ or bridgeing the network, I am talking about a complete replacement of this distasteful hardware that we are issed. My inter-LAN performance is terrible with the limited 20Mbps DL/1.5Mbps UL in my building, I need to employ QoS so that I can make use of these incredibly limited connections. Are there any options?

    No.

  • Other 802.11n routers?

I know the "n" is not standardized yet but almost every company has their own router out already. For the most part, are they interoperable? Do you have to have Apple's "n" router to use with APPLETV or can you use a Belkin, Netgear, Lynksys or D-Link (at "n")? Will my MacBook Pro equiped "n" work with some other brand router at "n" speeds?

i've had problems with a wrt350n and my macbook pro.
After getting the new router and installing the 802.11n update, my wireless connection would drop out after a few minutes of use. Even the latest airport update doesn't fix it (although it makes it last a bit longer before it dies).
I'm using the dd-wrt firmware in my router, and haven't tried tweaking the settings on the router yet - i'm told that might help a bit, but i'm not exactly sure which things to change.
So for now, you might want to wait, or just go with the apple solution.

  • Compatible 11n wireless card

Is there one or more 11n PCMCIA card(s)(PC Cards) that will work with 10.5.8?
My internal card's antenna broke (technical term) at the lid hinge point. So, I took the card out. I'm using a Belkin F5D70xx (v1313) PCMCIA card which gives me 11g connectivity. I'd like to go to with a 11n PCMCIA card, preferably with dual frequency (like the Linksys 600 series).
I apologize in advance if this is a FAQ but I've search the forum for 15 minutes, and I've given up on searching.

Here's one, but it's not dual band:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Edimax/EW7708PN/
It requires Mac drivers but the link to the drivers in on that page.
Allow me this observation: I have a 1gHz PowerBook G4 with "g" and a 2.2gHz MacBook Pro with "n" wireless. I see no significant difference between the two in using the internet, even for downloads. Both are apparently more than the router and our 5.5Mbps cable provider can dish out. The router is an Airport Extreme Base Station (Jan 2007 "square" model).
So adding the "n" card may not be a huge performancegain for you.

  • List of Compatible Routers?

Is there a listing of compatible wifi routers?
I have a D-Link DGL-4300. Anyone know if I'll have much success connecting with it?

When I returned my iPad, the sales rep wanted to know what router I had (actually I have 2) but my answer was the FIOS router provided by Verizon. I was then told that iPad had conflicts with some FIOS routers supplied by Verizon. Verizon has it defaulted to wep encryption. This router is only 2 years old, so I consider that pretty new. So, there is probably a tentative list of conflicting routers, we just haven't seen it yet.
The other was a 3 year old Belkin with brand new firmware and no encryption, just mac address filtering. I could never achieve a connection with this, after adding the iPad mac address to the router's table. It didn't matter what I tried.
All of our other house full of Apple products connect on each of these. iPhones, MacBookPros, iMac, G5tower.
BTW, even though people say iPad does not support wep, it will prompt you for a wep password, and it will re-ask for wep passwords on it's alert screens. Too bad the device doesn't provide enough human interaction warnings on connectivity to reinforce what I am hearing is non-support for wep. Everything leads one to believe it supports wep.
While this may not be a device flaw, it is most certainly an engineering/marketing decision flaw that results in performance issues, confusion, and returns. But, we know there are other connectivity related issues as well.

  • Is it possible to get an IPv6 and 802.11n capable router?

I would like to upgrade my current wireless router to an one that supports IPv6 and 802.11n. I want to do 6in4 tunnels for IPv6 to Hurricane Electric for my tunnel service and I have computers that have 802.11n. Currently I have the Actiontec (Verizon) MI424-WR wireless router with 10/100 ports. Can I get this through Verizon? I know I can go buy a Wireless router that can provide this on the outside, but want to ensure that this doesn't mess up my tv services. I have the three services currently on FIOS. TV, Internet and phone. So the router controls the TV settop boxes also.

Well Verzion them selve has no plans to switch customers over to ipv6 capable routers right away as its hard to get on Wireless N router from them as well unless you are on a buisness plan. Now If you Turn off your wireless from the Verizon side and hook up a router switch to a open port on the verizon router\modem there should be no problem as thats how i do mine. Also there are only certain routers and that support Wireless N and IPv6 access and I will post some info here as well about that.

  • 802.11n on a D-Link Router

    Hi,
I have a 2.2 GHz Macbook Pro running 10.5.2 that I connect to my Comcast cable modem through a D-Link DIR-625 router. I've used this successfully since Sept. 07 but have now discovered I cannot connect wirelessly using mixed 802.11n, 11g, and 11b. I can connect fine through the router using an ethernet cable. And I can connect wirelessly if I restrict the router to 802.11g and 802.11b.
I've spent hours on the phone with the D-Link support group and they've even replaced my router with another one. The new router is the same model and works the same way.
    I'm wondering two things:
    1. Has there been a recent software update from Apple that might change or affect the 802.11n draft functionality? (I have always installed all the latest software updates).
    2. Has anyone else seen a recent change in how their Mac connects to third party 802.11n routers?
    Thanks for your help.
    Jim

I have the same MacBook as you, but still at OS 10.5.1 and a DIR-655 router. I don't have any experience with a prior OS for this router.
Does your Laptop connect when you broadcast only in n mode? Do you need to use the mixed mode?
My MacBook connects OK when the router broadcasts in 3 modes b/g/n, BUT THEN my older Tibook (wireless b) does not connect anymore, although it sees the router broadcasting. When I set the router to b/g only, then fine both laptops connect. So now, to be able to use wireless n I have the D-Link working in n mode only for the MacBook, and my Linksys router hooked up to the D-Link via ethernet and broadcasting in b/g mode for my TiBook. It's not how I expected it to work but until I get a sensible answer from D-Link… I read somewhere of someone having the exact same issue. D-Link's advice was to use b/g. It seems that it's not as "backward compatible" as announced.

  • AirPlay speakers...where's the 802.11n??

So I'm in the market to get some whole home audio going in my house.  I've researched all of the various methods to do so (wired + receiver, airport express + speaker + amp, airplay speakers, bluetooth, etc) and I think I'm going to settle on getting AirPlay speakers.  I just don't want to mess with wiring everything up and doing the AirPort Express thing....plus AirPlay speakers are actually cheaper than doing anything else.  Granted you don't get the flexibility, but it's still a better budget decision.
In looking for some good AirPlay speakers, the only budget options ($150 or so) are Phillips and iHome.  I've found both on eBay for around $80 a pop depeding on the version.  Anyway....what's the deal with the AirPlay speakers only having 802.11b/g?  I was getting ready to pull the trigger, but now I'm thinking I won't because of 802.11n becoming the standard and b/g will be going out the window soon.  My wifi router supports the legacy frequencies, but I don't want to buy speakers and then in 2 years they are obsolete.  I know I know, go with the airport express route.  Well I'm open to suggestions at this point, but I'm just curious as to why the speaker manufacturer's are bundling b/g into their NEW products?

I had a similar concern: an airplay speaker only support 11g, not 11n.  I did some study and made my move and hopefully it helps by sharing what I did.
    Study:
The major chip inside airplay speakers comes from one single vendor: SMSC (lately got bought by Microchip).  It offers 11b/g and not 11n.  No firm schedule on 11n, it takes time to make a speaker from a chip
Most 11n routers support 11b/g too.  So playing music to 11g airplay speakers shall not be a problem; but it will affect your internet speed as some old routers will downgrade to 11g (which is 54Mbps, not too bad).
The new 11ac routers with multi-bands (2x2 or 3x3) can be a solution to this with ability to have separate channel for 11g airplay and other channel for 11ac internet browsing.
    My Purchase:
I did not buy any airplay speaker as it is over $100 my budget.  Instead, I bought Yamaha PDX-60 dongle speaker which uses propietery RF technology which happened on sale at Amazon at that time.  I did a check at Amazon store as I write and they are gone already.  (relief: as I do not want to be sounded like sales :-)
    Hope it helps//

  • 11n 5.8GHz and older Macs

Took delivery of new MacBook Pro and AEBS 11n/Gig. I hooked up the the new AEBS with my old 11g wireless router as per Apple's Designing Networks document (P48-49). Compared to my PowerBook 1.5GHz G4, this MacBook Pro is soooo fast.
Now, I have the PB and a Hot Rodded G4 400MHz computers that are currently locked into 11g on 2.4GHz.
Anybody seen a Mac compatible 11n, 5GHz client devise? PB can use cardbus or USB client adapters while the desktop can use either PCI or USB adapter.
    TIA

Anybody seen a Mac compatible 11n, 5GHz client devise? PB can use cardbus or USB client adapters while the desktop can use either PCI or USB adapter.
A wireless Ethernet bridge (also known as a gaming adapter) would work as a universal alternative. Such a bridge does not (normally) require special drivers, and can thus be used with nearly all Ethernet-capable devices (under almost any operating system). However, 802.11 n (draft) dual-band units appear to be rare. Linksys WGA600N could possibly be of interest to you.

  • WRT54GX4 upgrade to 802.11n

Since both the SRX 400 routers and the 802.11n routers are MIMO based, has any thought been given to offering firmware upgrades to the new 802.11n standard for customers with the WRTGX4 and the PCI Card SRX 400?  I've invested a lot of money in these systems.
    Thanks,
    Jeff Rollins

hi....MIMO is a technology used by both the srx and n router...while the wireless standards are different for both of them.....wrt54gx4 works on wireless-g standard and n routers work on wireless - n standard......so i don't think that it is possible to upgrade the devices with different standards....

  • Compatible wireless router

Does anyone know of any OS Maverick compatible wireless routers? Linksys doesn't support Maverick.

Agree with entresoft - a bit more info.
All routers are 802.11 - an industry standard.
They all have web based configuration - use any browser - just point it to their IP address, gnerally 192.168.1.1
The only "mac compatability" may be a DVD/CD with special configuration tools THAT YOU DONT NEED.
The asus stuff works really well.
