Compatible AC Adaptors for G3 PowerBook 1999

Based in U.K.
Hi,
I've recently purchased a vintage G3 Lombard PowerBook and had to purchase an AC adaptor separately.
The system would not boot up at all and I went through all the troubleshooting with reseting and powering with the main battery removed but had to stop at powering without the keyboard attached.
I contacted the seller and they happily took the system back but (un)fortunately they managed to boot up fine straight away and emailed me photos of the boot up.
The thing I'm going for now is the fact that I've been sold an AC adaptor that's not compatible. I'm using an M4328 and the seller was using an older M4896 which did work. Does anyone have a good list of compatible AC Adaptors for G3 PowerBooks, especially the 1999 pre-firewire? Teh best list I could find (and my adaptor wasn;t on there) is at this site <http://www.laptopbits.co.uk/databasefiles/AppleAdaptors.htm>.
At a very long shot, is there anyone in Edinburgh in the UK who has a working Lomabard and wouldn;t mind meeting up for an hour or so to troubleshoot.
Thanks,
G3 PowerBook Lombard   Mac OS X (10.3.3)

Hi baobhanjex,
I've had problems with power adapters for my Pismo 'Book. I was given an M4402 pack, which would allow my PowerBook to boot, but wouldn't charge the battery. It was a bizarre problem, which was caused by the pack itself being faulty. It was only outputting 26 Watts and the 'Book needs 45W minimum. The eBay seller who supplied the machine replaced the adaptor and everything worked. Recently, I found an old Apple adaptor replacement program for the M4402 adaptor, which is unsafe and carries a risk of overheating. I applied, and was sent a new M7332 'yo-yo' adaptor, which is both useful and stylish.
What I'm saying is that most Apple adaptors are interchangeable. You can boot a Pismo with an old Duo adaptor as the voltage, amperage and plug are the same (usually). The best adaptors for the Lombard G3's are the M5159 or M7332, but beware - the M7332 exists in two forms, one for the pre-2001 machines and another for the G4 chipped 'Books. The key difference is the connector - the pre-2001 machines have a large plug, about the size of a phono plug, while the TiBoooks and later have a considerably smaller plug to fit the slimmer profile of the machine.
If you have no luck with the sellers, I'd recommend the following site:
http://www.pbfanatic.co.uk
The owner is Uk-based, specialises in the G3 'Books, and supplied the machine I'm typing on. They sell plenty of adaptors, new and old, for most PowerBooks. Mention my name if you require their services.
Hope this helps,
Rob Johnson

  • Compatible DC Adaptor for Creative TravelSound 400

    Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum, so this will be my first post here.
I'm looking for a DC Adapter for my TravelSound 400. I've seen the price of the one on the Creative Online Store, and I find it would not be worthwhile to pay $30 shipping on something that would cost me $40. Therefore, I'm looking for one of the following options:
() A place in Vancouver, BC where I can purchase the TravelSound adapter.
    (2) A place in Vancouver where I can purchase a DC adapter that is compatible.
Does anybody know of any place like this?
    Thanks!
    Cheers,
    Eric

    Adam Clarke,
The Travelsound 400 uses a standard stereo minijack connector so it's definitely compatible with the Zen Touch player.

  • I need a wireless usb adaptor for a Power Mac G4... any suggestions? (needs to be compatible)

I need a wireless usb adaptor for a Power Mac G4... any suggestions? (needs to be compatible)

With Mac OS X 10.3 or higher, a number of USB Wi-Fi adapters would be possible to use. However, for an earlier operating system, a wireless Ethernet bridge (such as the examples below) can be a better (and sometimes the only) option. A wireless Ethernet bridge does not normally require special drivers, and can thus be used with almost any Ethernet-equipped computer.

  • I have recently upgraded my iBookG4 from Tiger to Leopard 10.5.8 and find my Bluetooth USB adaptor no longer connects. The Bluetooth pane says inactive. Does Leopard require  USB 2.0. I've had the adaptor for some time so may be USB 1.0

I have recently upgraded my iBookG4 from Tiger to Leopard 10.5.8 and find my Bluetooth USB adaptor no longer connects. The Bluetooth pane says inactive. Does Leopard require  USB 2.0. I've had the adaptor for some time so may be USB 1.0

Bluetooth icon on menu bar shows bluetooth off. When opening bluetooth preferences it shows the devices I've connected previously,( my mobile phone), and other devices I've attempted to connect but not very successfully: my iPhone and MiniMac.  The bluetooth dongle in the USB port shows a continual blue light but does not react and the iBook does not recognise that it is there. There is absolutely no reaction when I try to pair my mobile phone, which I've done successfully before upgrading to Leopard, either by the iBook or the mobile phone.
I assumed that Tiger was not bluetooth compatible with the iPhone or MacMini running SnowLeopard and hoped by upgrading to Leopard I could achieve some file transfers between the three devices (iBook, iPhone and MacMini)

  • Where can i buy an airport extreme card for my powerbook

Where can I buy an airPort extreme caed for my powerbook? are they even available, if not how can I go wireless ?

eBay is a good source, though as ever, buy wisely and make sure you get the right card for your specific model.
Alternatively there are wireless cards available that go in the card slot. Again eBay is full of them but be sure they're OSX compatible -  its a good idea to put this phrase in your search terms.
I can vouch that this one works as I'm using it now:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAGEM-PCMCIA-AIRPORT-54MBPS-WIRELESS-WIFI-CARD-MAC-OS-X-/4 00124141388?pt=UK_Computing_Apple_Mac_Accessories&hash=item5d2941df4c#ht_3229wt_ 886
It just plugged straight in and was recognised as an Airport Card. This is from the UK site but I'm sure you can find the same thing wherever you live, or at that price just have it shipped.

  • New Draft-N Card for Legacy PowerBook (PPC based)

Any words yet or recommendation on a wireless card for legacy PowerBook (PPC-based) systems? I know the newer systems have the updated AirPort Extreme (using the Draft-N enabler), but what about others who have older PowerBooks with a user-installable card. Will Apple be creating a new wireless card for use in these systems? Or is there a 3rd Party compliant card to use in the PC Slot of the PB G4 that is Draft-N and works with the new AirPort Extreme base station N?

    I doubt it.
When Airport was upgraded the last time (from 802.11b to 802.11g), the older hardware was stuck with integrated cards that could not be upgraded.
Is this Apple being mean? Not really.
The new n hardware needs two or three antennas to work. Older laptops with 802.11g have only one antenna built into the case - so you can't simply upgrade the card.
The only way to upgrade is if a third-party manufacturer produces a mac-compatible version. Which could happen. But it would be the sort of card that sticks out of the PC-Card slot.
It's not ideal, but remember that laptops get upgraded all the time, and you can't upgrade the processor or the screen either.

  • Slim AC Power Adaptor for W700?

Is there such a thing as a slim AC Power Adaptor for the W700?  I know the W500 has one, but is there an equivalent out there on the market for the W700?
    Thanks.

The 230W adaptor for W701 is quite slim and it's perhaps compatible with W700.

  • External Monitor for G4 Powerbook

I would like to get a larger (19-23") monitor for my PowerBook G4 1.33 GHz laptop. There is a ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 built in, so what Apple monitor is compatible? It sounds like the Cinema Displays all need some sort of specific Graphics card that I don't have (can I install one?).
    thanks.

I have a 9700 in my 1.5Ghz PowerBook and it works fine with a 23" and 30" Cinema Displays, I would think that your 9600 would work as well.

  • Wondering if linked ram is OK for my Powerbook G4 12"

I cannot agree more here. I recently purchased a PowerBook G4/1.5 from a pretty repultable mac resaler that came with 2 hodge-podge 512mb chips in it that would only see 512 no matter what I did to swap them around.
Biting the bullet, I went over to OWC and purchased a 2 gig upgrade kit for around $66.00 +shipping, a few days wait, a 10 minute install later and smooth sailing on my PowerBook!
Good call on doing your homework and follow-up's on the forums.

I am using iPad 3 and I try to use 30-pin Digital AV adaptor for mirroring on my Samsung HD TV.  Unfortunately it is not a full screen projection.  Anyone can help?

The iPad Screen is almost square, HD TVs are rectangular so will never be full screen.  When watching movies, the movies native aspect ratio will be used rather than the iPads screen aspect ratio so will look full screen if the movie is full screen, but most likely will be seen in wide screen letter box format. with black bars across the top and bottom as that what most movies from iTunes are in, format wise

  • Is there any Vga adaptor for the Ipad 2 that is VIDEO IN rather than OUT?

Is there any Vga adaptor for the Ipad 2 that is VIDEO IN rather than VIDEO OUT? is for a student with visual impairment who needs to view the classroom digital board content from a very short distance, like the distance to an Ipad for example, so the Ipad would be ideal as an interactive monitor with typography and content easy to amplify.
At the moment, this student has a traditional flat screen monitor taking over the table next to him, so no other child can seat in it, and he has no opportunity to befriend and sporadically joke with anybody else. So much for "inclusion".

Speaking as a teacher ... Why can't he have a student on the other side of him?

Hi please can you help me. I think I am having problems with tranactions. I am deleting from a table and then inserting in the same table with the same key that I have just deleted. Simple then - don't do that. It suggests a flaw in the design. Either use a new key or do an update.
Note that you would get a duplicate key error if the table is set up such that it doesn't
actually delete but doesn't something such as creating a log entry with a delete flag set.

  • Need MICR compatible ink cartridge for Officejet Pro 8500A Premium to print checks.

I need to print bank accepted checks on my Officejet Pro 8500A Premium printer using MICR ink.  I cannot find a compatible MICR cartridge for this printer.  There are MICR cartridges available for other HP printers.  Does anyone know of a compatible cartridge?

Try using the multilevel uninstaller in the HP software driver CD. Browse the contents of the CD and look for the "Util" folder and open it. In the "Util" folder, open the "CCC" folder. In the "CCC" folder, double click on the "Uninstall_L3.bat" file. Don't use the "Uninstall_L4.bat" file. It could remove files that have shared dependencies with the HP software. Restart the computer and then reinstall the software afterwards. Let me know if it worked or not.

  • Where can I find a restore disc for a PowerBook G4?

Where can I find a restore disc for a PowerBook G4?

The detailed problem is that I had used the computer for a long time without turning off.  I wanted to give it to someone else so I needed to clean the data off. Before deleting anything I switched off then on and the HD seemed to have developed a fault as the start up routine began then when the Hd started the computer crashed and restarted at the begining with the startup routine and I have not been able to go further than this.  I changed the HD for an old one that I had replaced previously which had the same software system, Leopard.  This worked perfectly but on switching off then on behaved as the other had.
I figured that if I could start with the restore disc I could clean the HD or at least investigate it.  Hence the need for a restore disc.
Would this work or is there something in the logic board that is upsetting the HD and what ever I do will not cure the problem.
    Any thoughts??
