Compatible DVD decoder not installed

Hello. I am so helpless...and need advice, please someone....
I was working on a project in Premiere Pro and my computer(Windows XP 1GB) crashed. I heard compatibility problems with CS3 and Vista, so I took my computer to a repair place. It came back with a new hard drive, but the computer says "Compatible DVD decoder is not installed in the computer." All it has is Window Media player..... I have CS (the initial CS version), and I need Windows XP so that I can use Premiere CS version. I do not have any newer version of Premiere than CS. I am sorry, but I am totally lost and have no idea what to do.....

The message is probably telling you that your trying to play a DVD-Video disc without having an
MPEG-2 codec installed. Except for some versions of Vista, Windows doesn't come with an MPEG-2 codec. Most of the time it gets automatically installed with a DVD player software that often is bundled with a DVD drive. Maybe you have an installation disc of such a player lying around somewhere.
Otherwise you will need to buy the codec:
DVD Decoder (MPEG-2 Decoder) Plug-ins
You can check whether or not a Media Player compatible MPEG-2 codec is installed with this utility:
Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility

    Mark,
Your mentioning the PRAM reset was interesting...I vaguely recall this issue a long time ago with the same results.
Are you sure the PRAM reset was successful? One way to tell is to turn AppleTalk 'off', then reset PRAM (allow 2-3 chimes); the default setting is 'on' after a reset. there are other items stored in PRAM also:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
You might also boot to a compatible MacOS System CD and check the System Profiler that is in the booting System Folder just to make sure some oddball software issue on the HD is not causing a problem.
I hope I have not lead you astray. If the decoder was on the logic board and died, I hope it will not interfere with the operation of the PC card. I just don't have an answer to this because I have never run across it. I can only hope this is successful...

  • Adobe reader XI can't open mp3 files in a pdf document- says the required decoder not installed

Adobe reader XI can't open mp3 file links contained in a pdf - it says the required decoder is not installed

This is not a function of Reader, but that your computer does not seem to be configured to play mp3 files. Try fixing your file associations. The method of doing so depends upon your OS and it version number.

  • I cannot upgrade my iMac 2009 to snow leopard (it was deleted by mistake) now is running 10.5.8, the snow leopard dvd is not installing and the computer keeps crashing..If anyone have an answer, PLEASE Help me.

I have a 2009 iMac 4,1  2GHz intel Core duo it says here I have 1GB of memory. I had it running on snow leopard 10.6.8 I still have the SN software that i bought to made the upgrade. Had some guest staying at my place and they deleted the running os and a lot of files and stuff..., now is running on leopard 10.5.8 and it's giving me a lot of problems because is soo obsolete, also hte computer is crashing all the time and every time I try ti install the SL dvd, the computer won't read the dvd and I'm keeps booting me off. Is not getting better at all and now when I restart the iMac before I get the grey apple screen, the folder of death icon flashes, (I already lost my Macbookpro due this situation. What can I do to resolve this aggravating and frustrating Issue. Need help now ..Please

Before we get too far, please clarify this part:
    I have a 2009 iMac 4,1
A 2009 iMac cannot be an iMac 4,1; they are 9,1 and higher. Did you mean to type "2006?" That would be an iMac 4,1. We need to pin down the model issue before proceeding.
It could be the drive, not the disk, that is dirty. Try a drive cleaning disk, usually about US$5-15 at home entertainment, electronics stores and office superstores

  • 10.5.4 retail install DVD will not install on macbook pro

I have a retail OSX Leopard DVD
    version 10.5.4
    2Z691-6232-A
I am trying to do a clean install of the OS on a Macbook Pro 5,2
Intel Core 2 Duo  2.8GHz/ 4GB of memory
The machine is currently running 10.5.8. The OS currently installed on the machine in question was originally installed from the same disk.
This is a company machine & the company I work for purchased the DVD and the changing the startup disk has always worked in the past.
There shouldn't be any sort of sketchy I borrowed this disk from my step-brother's cousin's wife.
The disk mounts on the desktop.
When I change the starup disk to the DVD and restart nothing happens. The system restarts but does not do it from the boot DVD.
When I hold down the c key during reboot the machine goes into a booting loop but never boots.
    startup tone/30 seconds(no apple screen)/startup tone, etc.
It seems like there is a problem with the DVD even though it mounts on the desktop.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for responding.
I'm sorry I wasn't clear. The disk was never borrowed.
The disk was bought by a business. Only used by the one business and it didn't come with a computer because it was bought online by one busines who has always kept the disc in their possession.  We have used this disc numerous times to reinstall 10.5.4 on a number of our machines.
The disc in question is black like the box that is comes in. In my experience OS discs before 10.6 (especially retail discs) are not linked to a machine so this has nothing to do with the wrong disc.

  • Vista Ultimate SP1 (retail dvd) will not install on new Mac Pro

I wish to dedicate a new 1TB hard drive in Bay3 on a brand new Mac Pro for Vista Ultimate SP1, preferably 64-bit. I have tried several times to install a retail dvd version of Vista Ultimate with SP1 (both 32- and 64-bit) without success on two different hard drives (first the one in bay 3; then, after lack of success, the one in bay 4). The installation process does not proceed beyond the stage where Vista must format the hard drive. Vista always displays the message that Vista cannot be installed on a disk of the "GPT style." After giving up on the installation, the disk appears to Disk Utility as a "GUID" disk.
I am seeking advice from anyone who might be able to help me proceed. The remainder of this message provides more detail about what I have tried.
Before starting Boot Camp, I formatted the hard drives initially as MS-DOS FAT, and on later attempts, as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Neither matters. After several attempts, I verified the functionality of the drives by partitioning them using Disk Utility and then repartitioning to one partition. Both 1TB drives appear healthy and can be partitioned and re-partitioned.
When Bootcamp Assistant (BC) calls for the Vista disk, the Vista installation proceeds until the stage when Vista calls for me to identify a hard drive partition for installation. After selecting the largest partition on drive 2 (in bay 3; size 931GB) , the BC Installation and Setup Guide instructs me to "format" the partition. When I do so, the following Windows error message appears:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."
Based on some forum comments, I also tried a different procedure at this stage of the Vista installation. Instead of choosing "format," I first chose to "delete" the selected partition. The disk then appears as "unallocated space." I then chose "new" and "apply" in the hope that it would create a correct NTFS partition for Vista. It then appears as Partition 2 of either Disk 2 (or Disk 3, which I tried subsequently). However, the subsequent "format" still yields the same error.
I tried both procedures with Vista 64-bit and with Vista 32-bit. No difference.
    Suggestions most welcome.

When I provided a link to threads about "Install Vista SP1 DVD" I knew and had in mind a couple threads where people have tried. And trying will help understand.
You don't need to format as NTFS on another PC when just installing MacFuse plus 3G driver extensions will let you do so on your Mac Pro. And that is just one option. There are always multiple ways to get to the same place.
Due to EFI changes there is a tool and tips on how to convert your DVD, but I didn't have time to go back and find and pull those together.

Yes, it’s a fairly long process and requires you to download stuff (and be running Windows in the first place) But, it does work as long as you follow the instructions correctly.
Convert DVD to ISO and prepare for EFI booting on Mac
tried rebooting about 10 times. No luck. Finally I pointed Parallels (free trial available) to my blank bootcamp partition and set parallels to boot from CD before HD. Parallels booted the Vista install CD just fine, and put Vista on my HD. Crashed at the end though and said it couldn't make the boot camp partition bootable so all changes were removed. Rebooted under boot camp and the installer came up fine off the CD.
So if you have this problem, and nobody else can help, and if you can find it, maybe you can download..... Parallels. Feel free to post this on the other threads. Unlike other workarounds I'm guessing this will work for everyone and it only takes a free trial download of parallels to give it a try. Still wish apple would acknowledge the problem and post a fix. Can't be that hard.
I think VMWare Fusion also supports vitualization with the bootcamp partition as the target so that may help you get around this install bug in boot camp(or the mac's firmware) too.
I would have thought that with Intel and Microsoft both saying they would begin to support UEFI with Vista SP1 64-bit, and Apple is part of the EFI Group, that "we're different" was a thing of the past. Instead it is harder.

  • Elements 12 DVD will not install

I have brand new Photoshop Elements 12 and Premier Elements 12 on DVDs. The DVD installation processes will not start. The DVD drive clicks quietly reading the discs for about 3 mins, but then nothing happens. The DVD stop "clicking" and the initial installation window is not displayed. Just nothing. I cannot find setup/install exes on the DVDs using Windows explorer. • Both DVD Drives Not Installing Programs

    Hello,
Both of my DVD Drives have stopped installing programs. For example, once a DVD is placed in the Drive, it will initially load up and give me the oppurtunity to load the Setup Executable, start to load the program, but never finish.
This happens no matter what DVD/CD is loaded. Any ideas? I have removed them and let Windows redetect and reinstall them, but no help. Thanks!

    Hi,
I realise you have already tried part of the procedure below, but try starting from this.
From the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.  Restart the PC.
Next, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drives are now working.
If the drives are not working, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Then open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drives in turn and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.
Reboot the PC and let Windows reinstall the devices.  Check the drives again.
If they still aren't working, run the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below again.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Next, from the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drives again and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the devices have uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drives and see if they now work.

  • DVD Decoder Card Not Working

I have a lombard 333 that I have a dvd decoder card installed in. It also has a dvd drive. When I put a dvd in, it shows up on the desktop and seems to work fine, but when the dvd player opens it says the dvd player is not compatible with this machine. The decoder card shows up in the toolbar at the top of the screen. I tried other dvd drives with no luck. I also put the card and dvd drive in another lombard 333 which did the same thing. I have used the lombard and card before to play dvd's with no problem, now it does not work. What is wrong? Could my card have gone bad? Is there a way I can fix it? Thanks

    Mac,
Unfortunately, no version of OSX supports DVD Player on the Wallstreet or Lombard. I am assuming you are booting into OSX since you have listed 10.4.8 as your OS. The only workaround is to boot into 9.x to play DVDs.

  • How to install 3.1 Drivers when 3.0 will not install

I am trying to install the Boot Camp driver on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
The 3.0 Drivers on the Snow Leopard DVD will not install, which makes perfect
sense because Windows 7 64 bit was not supported at the 3.0 revision level.
But I cannot run the 3.1 update, because 3.0 was never installed.
Is there a way to just directly install the 3.1 drivers without 3.0 being
installed first? Or to force 3.0 to install even though the drivers installed
    won't actually work?

No answer here either, but I want to chime in. My MBP i7 came with BootCamp 3.0.5 already installed, but the 3.1 drivers for Windows 7 won't execute properly because they claim that they need BootCamp 3.x.

  • Applications will not install

A few days ago my iphoto stopped working. I did a complete factory reset on my macbook (10.6.8) and now the applications on the "Applications Install DVD" will not install. It just keeps saying "an unknown installation error occured." Recovering any of the old pictures and videos is not necessary, I just want iPhoto, iMovie, etc... to work

If that's my only option then I may just buy it from the App Store and see if that works. It would cost me at least that in gas to get to my "local" Apple store. It just seems weird to me. All of a sudden iPhoto and iMovie stop working. I completely reset my macbook and I still get the same error. I've done the "Hardware Test" and the DVD looks flawless. I'm really just throwing my hands up.

    1. The Edit

If I understand correctly you are trying to access site from the Windows server 2008 R2, the default OS installation will have two browsers. Open internet explorer that doesn't have (64 bit) in the bracket. The one with 64bit is not supported
