Compatible HD tvs

I'm going to purchase a new flat screen tv at Sam's Club, and just purchased an iMac. Any suggestions
about brands that are compatible with my new computer? I am a real novice, just getting started.

Any TV with HDMI input's will be fine, that means almost every TV sold. To connect your computer to the new TV you will need a cable. To know which cable you will need depends on which iMac you have. If your computer is a late 2009 or 2010 it has a MiniDisplay port which means you will need a MiniDisplay port to HDMI. To get one that does a good job I'd recommend buying from Apple, there are many available from third party retailers however many simply don't do a good job. If you computer has MiniDVI output port then you will need a MiniDVI to HDMI cable and an audio cable like this one.

  • Can we make a list of compatible LCD tvs?

    Hi
Can people who succesfully got Plasma or LCDs to work with there mac mini please post the model numbers, prices and resolutions.
It would realy save people like me time in shopping and avoid risks in getting the wrong one.
Thank you so much in advance

good idea. do you mean PPC mini or INtel mini?????
don't think it matters. essentially what you want to do is look at the resolution of the TV.
I would shoot for either 1280x720 or 1920x1080. Those are both HD resolutions.
Some Plasmas run at a funky 1377x932 or something. Those resolutions are whack!!!!
Search for 720 or 1080 and you'll be good.
some TVs will display a black band around your display. that would suck.

  • What TVs are compatible with Air Drop?

We are shopping for a new TV but want to make sure it is a device that is compatible with using Air Drop from our iPads/iPhones.
What feature should we look for in a new TV that would ensure it is a capable device with Air Drop?

AirDrop isn't compatible with TVs. It is a Mac OS X Lion feature used for transferring files between Macs on the same local network.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirDrop
Did you mean AirPlay - for sending video and audio to other devices? If so, any TV with a HDMI port is compatible with the AppleTV device which recieves the video and audio and displays it on the TV.
There are no TVs on the market with AirPlay built in. This link might be helpful:

I have stopped and restarted the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and the UPnP Device Host Service; I also linked a Windows Live ID but this did not help. All devices have access to my PC and my TV has the latest software.
    I have Windows 7 and WMP 12 and according to my TV specs, the DLNA supported formats are: MPEG1/ MPEG2PS/ MPEG2TS/ AVCHD/ MP4Part10/ MP4Part2/ AVI(XVID)/ AVI(MotionJpeg)/ MOV/ WMV/ MKV/ WEBM/ 3GPP/ MP3/ WMA/ LPCM/ JPEG/ MPO
I would appreciate any help you can offer.
    Thank you

It seems to be an issue with Sony Bravia TV. According to the following article:

Yes it looks like you can have an unlimited number of Apple TV on the same account.
Did you ever find out what the limit was that could play back at the same time.
It doesn't say in the website.

  • Movies in the cloud

I want to buy movies in iTunes and have them available on the apple tv.  However before i commit to this I have a couple of questions
    1) How many apple tvs can i associate with my apple ID to view my movies on
    2) I don't want to download and store the movies on my ccomputer, I just want to puchase them and have them available in the cloud when I need them.  Do apple guarentee my movies will always be available after i purchase them...for example what if the studio no longer wants to sell on iTunes, what will happen to my movie I have paid for?

    Bryan Webster wrote:
    1) I have 2 apple TVs and they both see my purchased content, but they don't show up in manage devices, it just shows my mac, my iphone and 2 ipads.
Found this in the iTunes Store TOS: "An Apple TV is not an “Associated Device.” However, TV show iTunes Products and purchased (i.e. not rented) movies iTunes Products may be played back on compatible Apple TVs, provided that you may only play back any such TV show or movie on a limited number of Apple TVs at the same time." So it appears you may have an unlimited number of ATVs associated with an Apple ID.
    Bryan Webster wrote:
    2) If that is the case then it is a real bad user experiance as i thought the whole point of the latest apple tv was you can stream your purchases straight to it without having to have you pc/laptop on.  I thought steve jobs whole iCloud point was to stop having the pc as the central hub and to have the cloud as the central hub
You are correct about Jobs' public statements for the cloud. You'll have to talk to the movie studios about removing items from the store, though. They control the copyrights, not Apple.

  • Why does Apple only let you authorize 5 products on 1 account?

Is there any way arround this. Reason is that I just ordered the New iPad to replace the original iPad also I just ordered the new iPhone 5 to replace the 4. So what do you do to get it all set up? I have 3 other devices so I'm at the limit!

  • How often can i re-download purchased media on the same device?

If i purchase a TV show on my Macbook Pro/iPad/iPhone, do i still have to back it up to an external HDD or can i just delete it from my device and re-download it again in the future to re-watch? I am trying to avoid filling up my Macbook Pro HDD and would love to not have to back it up to an external HDD.
    Thanks for your help!

Here is the link to the iTunes Terms:
    http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#SERVICE
I did not see anything that would allow you to download content more than once to one device (re-downlading to an associated device is allowed per these terms):
Association of Associated Devices is subject to the following terms:
You may auto-download iTunes Auto-Delivery Content or download previously-purchased iTunes Eligible Content from an Account on up to 10 Associated Devices, provided no more than 5 are iTunes-authorized computers.

I also did not see anything that would allow you to copy something you purchased to an external hard drive, although I might have missed that,
I'd suggest contacting iTunes support to get a definitive answer.

  • Airport compatible with Smart TVs?

Is Airport compatible with Samsung smart tvs? The smart tv doesn't seem to locate the base station.

Yes, all generations of iPad work with the various Apple AirPort routers.

  • How to make AppleTV compatible with ordinary TVs?

I was meaning to buy an AppleTV (although I'm aware that a newer version of it, perhaps one with DVD drive, is due to be released), but remembered that it requires a flat-screen TV. I can't afford both simultaneously nor around the same time. I've got an elgato TV tuner coming soon and would like to watch from my living room what's recorded in my MBP, which lives in another room.
    Any solution or alternative?
    Thanks.

On paper the tv only gives component output and not composite as required by SCART.
In fact it has now been shown that the circuitry to deliver composite signal is present in the tv but you just cant get at the interface to turn it on. That link tells you how to fool the tv set up into delivering a composite signal.
So you can do it almost for free instead using the hidden composite signal inside the tv. You need a HDMI-DVI-VGA converter combo to get the tv to deliver this signal and it costs maybe $20-30. Follow the links to Mauricio's video and instructions. He says you only need an HDMI-DVI but that didnt work for me.
Beware to ensure you get a VGA to DVI-I adaptor since the HDMI-DVI will probably be a DVI-D.
Worked first time and works fine. This way i'm using the tv signal directly

  • Apple tv on multiple tvs at the same time

I just purchased an iPad 2.  I am interested in adding apple TV to my home.  My questions are:  If I had a apple tv for each of my TVs, would it possible to play videos on multiple TVs in my house simultaneously?  Also,  Would there be a way to use a second iPad on the same apple TV signal? Any information would be great.

If the content was in iTunes and compatible you could have a computer running itunes and each AppleTv would be able to play iTunes content.
If stuff was bought from iTunes store and available in the cloud in your country you wouldn't need a computer on and could stream iTunes Store purchases from the internet provided your connection was adequate.

  • Older HD tvs and HDMI

I have a 2 year old JVC HD TV and the HDMI port doesn't seem to work with with any of my apple products. Called JVC and they don't cop to anything. They say they have never tried to hook-up any Apple stuff yet. I have noticed some other info of similar problems the older HDMI ports with home entertainment systems. Right now I am using component cables and plan to try HDMI to DVI to VGA port on JVC. Is there any other way to use HDMI with older HD TVs? The JVC is seeing something there on HDMI but seems to be having a resolution issue that prevents video. I will have to check to see if audio is working today, for some reason I think it is. Am I loosing any HD quality with my component or DVI to VGA work around ?

JVC may be passing the buck here. HDMI is HDMI regardless of who's equipment you are using, v 1.3 is backwards compatible with earlier versions. The only question you need to consider is whether the HDMI on your tv has HDCP, virtually all do but not all. If JVC haven't added HDCP support to HDMI then I'm afraid it won't work.
Unfortunately, your alternative suggestions are even less likely to work since DVI quite regularly has no HDCP support.
I'd confirm with JVC whether your HDMI connection has HDCP support and if so I'd be asking them to fix things, although that may be a little difficult after 2 years. I'd also ask them about DVI and HDCP, I suppose there is is the chance that they made both HDMI and DVI HDCP compliant and that you simply have a broken HDMI card.

  • Mac Mini + Sharp Aquos: Signal is not compatible? HELP

I am trying to get an Intel based mac mini to display on Sharp Aquos LC-45GX6U TV. I am using a dvi-to-dvi cable.
When initially connected, it worked fine, outputting at 1280x768 at 60Herz. It is not the native resolution for that TV, but close enough to display OK. I tried to play around with resolutions and as soon as I switched to another res, the TV showed a black screen with a message "signal is not compatible with this input". The funny thing is that when restarting the mac, it shows the boot screen fine with 1280x768 at 60hz shown in the right top corner of the TV. However, as soon as it boots, it goes back to the black screen with the dreaded message.
I have tried connecting other monitor(s) and TVs (all of which work fine) and then changing the resolution back to 1280x768, then reconnecting to Sharp Aquos. It doesn't work.
I have tried clearing PRAM and NVRAM - it doesn't work. Still gives the same message.
I tried deleting plist files on the mac (which supposedly save monitor settings) - it doesn't work.
I tried booting it in safe mode and it worked worked, if you reboot in normal mode, it goes back to the dreaded messaged. I then tried going back to safe mode and playing with resolution there. Once I did this, it showed the black screen with the message in safe mode and now the safe mode does not work either.
    Please help!

Probably the best thing to do at this point will be to trash the preferences file(s) associated with displays. In /Library/Preferences there should be a file labeled com.apple.windowserver.plist. Throw it in the trash. Also, for however many user accounts are on the mini, there should be files in /Users/name/Library/Preferences/ByHost that are named com.apple.windowserver.xxxxxxx.plist where xxxxxx is a hexidecimal string of letters and numbers and where name is the name on the account. Throw all of those files in the trash as well, then restart the mini.
When OS X restarts and finds those files missing from their expected location, it will generate fresh copies with factory default values. That should give you a fresh start with your Aquos. Throwing away the .plist files described will also cause the loss of any custom color calibrations you might have done, or any other display specific preferences that may have been stored.
