Compatible HDD for 14" Touchsmart Model 14-b109wm

I'm looking into replacing my laptop with a new HDD. Can anyone help me out what specs I should be looking for to assure that it's compatible with my laptop. I'm currently looking at these products. I'm really hoping to get 7200 RPM HDD. Can you also list the steps that I should take in replacing the HDD? Like should I avoid static environments? Can I replace it on a wooden desk?  Thank you.

Hi,
Please check Device Manager to see what is the brand of the existing HDD and going out to buy new HDD with same brand. HP uses Toshiba, Hitachi, may be Samsung a lot on many laptops. It should accept any brand but who knows.
Other note: Many 2.5" HDD's now are thinner than old HDD's. Please buy the one which has plastic frame to allow it to sit properly inside the HDD cage/slot. otherwise, buy the same thickness (at least 4 screws should keep it in place but to be sure is to be sure).
Regards.

Can anyone suggest one that's fast and reliable, but not too exspensive. I'm looking in the £250 GB range.

I put the OWC Mercury Electra 3G into the Mid-2007 MacBook2,1 before I gave it to my son. It's a SMOKIN' quick performer. Press the power button to Lion login prompt takes all of 18 seconds, which is quicker than the box booted to Snow Leopard with my Intel Series 320. The 240GB drive is the best value, but you might find the 480GB drive is still a reasonable price.

  • Compatible HDD for Nomad Zen Xtra 6

My hdd (Fujitsu MHT2060AT) died and i want to replace it with Seagate ST96082A or ST9682A.
Will it be compatible with my 'Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 60Gb'?

My favourite HDDs are Seagate. The models, i've mentioned above are 250 and 2500 rubbles ($80 and $93) and this are the lowest prices i've found in Moscow.

Sorry, but it seems that i'm dull or blind or both, but i've opened your links and haven't found anything about Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra..
Would you be so kind to give me a direct link to a list of compatible HDDs that would 00% work?Or just say will my player work with Seagate ST96082A or not..

  • Compatible HDD for a 15.4-inch: 2.16GHz (MA609LL) MBP?

    Hello folks,
Just wanted to check if this HDD would be usable in my 15.4"2.16GHz (MA609LL)MBP?
I currently have a 120Gb, and have just successfully upped the memory to the 3Gb max, but would like a 500Gb HDD to give me a good 2+ years head room on my MBP.
The main question is because it says SATA-300 and not just SATA? Sorry, but I've not upgraded or played with HDD's since IDE was the only type!
Just wanted to make sure it would be a good choice?!
Also - does the 7200 as opposed to the 5400 really make a positive difference in performance but not too much negative (heat, noise etc)
    Thank you in advance
    Alessandro

    Hi Alessandro,
found just one User report on the WD in his MBP and he was very positive about it.
    (Sadly it's in German: http://www.apfeltalk.de/forum/500gb-f-rs-t180801.html )
SATA connector for 2.5" HDs are the same, so no worry.

  • HDD for lenovo Twist

Could you please recommand me some compatible HDD for Lenovo Twist? The hdd went dead. looking to 7200 RPM with 500 - 1000 GB capacity.
    Thank you very much.

    Hello,
Any 2.5" 7mm high HDD should work, which are a little less common than the 9.5mm high drives normally used in notebook computers, but becoming more common.  The S230u's FRU List gives the following part numbers and models:
    04W0570 - B500 Toshiba
    04W0576 - C320AF Seagate
    04W0582 - 7200RPM SATA 320GB 7.0mm AF 6Gb/s Toshiba AQUARIUS-C SLIM-320
    04W0583 - 7200RPM SATA 500GB 7.0mm AF 6Gb/s Toshiba AQUARIUS-C SLIM-500
    04W0592 - 5400RPM 500GB 7.0mm 6Gb/s WD MN500S-500
    04W3923 - 5400 JAGUAR-B7 500
    04W3926 - 5400 MN500S 500GB
    04W3927 - 7200 JAGUAR-C7 320
    04W3929 - 7200 JAGUAR-C7 500
You could also use a 2.5" 7mm high SSD as well, although if you do, you should not enable the iRST or ExpressCache caching with the mSATA SSD as it will actually slow things down.  You could still use the mSATA SSD as a small secondary drive for backups, etc.

my macbook is running slow and i wanted to know which SSD is compatible for a 2009 model macbook pro??

    GitongaKuria,
several people here use Crucial, OWC and Samsung SSDs. I have a Samsung 840 PRO SATA III SSD in my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and your 2009 model and my 2010 model both have SATA II interfaces — these brands of SATA III SSDs (at minimum) work well in MacBook Pros with SATA II interfaces. In the case of the Samsung 840 EVO SSD, make sure that you visit the Samsung SSD firmware page to download and install its latest firmware.

  • Get a Samsung HDTV and ATV or wait for the latest model?

A newbie to HDTV, video and ATV.
I have almost decided to buy the Samsung 50" plasma HDTV PN50A650. But have discovered that Samsung has a new model PN50A760 with added capabilities for playing video and wireless networking.
Connectivity is an issue to me. Spending all the green on a HDTV, I do not want it to be obsolete in 4 years. What if I get a digital camcorder? Or Apple introduces a flat-rate movie-rental scheme? My options:
OPTION A) Wait a few months until the $500 premium for the new model drops.
Some excerpts for reviews of the latest 760 model:
"The 7 series can playback video content stored on a USB device while the 6 series are limited to images and audio."
(Naively, I thought that all HDTVs should be able to play back video.)
"The 7 Series can stream audio, video and pictures over your home network."
"The TV recognizes not only MP3 and JPEG files but also XviD and MPEG4 files to enjoy video playback."
"The TV can also reach out to your home network and play back photos, videos and music stored on networked computers. You'll need to install special software, included with the TV, onto your PC." This could be some very basic software. Suitable for Macs?
"While this feature seems pretty cool, it's not as good as similar functionality built into a PS3 or an Xbox 360, let alone that of a dedicated network media streamer like Apple TV. Despite being billed as DLNA-compliant, the TV won't play nice with DLNA server software like Windows Media Player 11 or TVersity, so you're stuck with the included proprietary software. Samsung's software is basic..." (Compatibility with Macs?)
OPTION B) Buy the older model and then, add ATV. The total cost will be less and I think, the video playback (through my iMac?) and networking capabilities (2Wire Wi-Fi) will be much better. But I see there have been problems between ATV and Samsung HDTV.
Isn't the combo with ATV a much more capable and flexible (and cheaper) long-term solution? Which Samsung is unlikely to match?
Thanks for your valuable advice! (Urgent for the X-Mas season!)

Winston, I think you're missing my points:
    1) If you're interested in a device for watching HD video, then you can compare the AppleTV and Blu-Ray. You then have to look at what other features they provide, or don't provide as the case may be, and decide. I was just giving my opinion on an alternative.
    2) There was no detailed information given as to what the streaming capabilities were and so I was giving my opinion again.
To say that there is little difference quality wise between current HD broadcasts (even if some are 1440x1080i) and the maximum output of the AppleTV at 1280x720 shows a total lack of experience on your part of watching HD broadcasts on a TV capable of 1920x1080, or a lack of appreciation of the better detail contained in the picture. It's like comparing AppleTV HD at 1280x720 with DVD PAL native resolution of 720x576 and saying there is little difference quality wise. But then if you look at the US market where 30fps is standard, the AppleTV cannot support resolutions higher than 960x540, and then you really are lowering the benefits of the AppleTV over DVD quality, and the difference between the AppleTV and HD broadcasts is even bigger.
I have compared video from HD broadcast at 1920x1080 with the same video converted down to 1280x720 on the AppleTV, and the loss of detail is noticeable, especially when watching on a 40" TV, not an uncommon size these days with them being used with games consoles. Before you comment, no it is nothing to do with how I convert them, there is just physically far fewer pixels available. I much prefer watching 1920x1080 through my Media PC than watching 1280x720 through my AppleTV.
Also, as we all know it happens, there is software available freely on the internet - no names will be mentioned - that allow the convertion of movies from DVD to a PC, and likewise from HD-DVD and Blu-Ray to a PC. So reality is that it's available now and with the cost of 1TB and 1.5TB HDDs so cheap, the potential for a 1920x1080 resolution video collection for playing on a 1920x1080 TV is already there. Saying it's not going to happen 'any time soon' is rediculous as it's already happening, albeit quietly, especially as talk of how to do such things is not allowed on this forum.
You keep using this phrase 'any time soon' without quantifying it. You use words like 'unlikely'. We live in a fast changing world. The world of televisions has changed dramatically in the last two years, whereby nearly all mid-priced TVs (both plasma and lcd) from about £800 GBP upwards now support native 1920x1080. Two years ago I paid over £1500 GBP for a 37" plasma supporting native 1024x720. You can now buy Sony OLED 11" TVs, which a couple of years ago were just being shown off as prototypes. In my opinion, OLED will blow away lcd and plasma tv sales within 5 years, and in my timescale, that is any time soon.
12 months ago I bought a blu-ray player for a PC, whilst people around me were going for hd-dvd. The format wars was predicted as not going to end 'any time soon' and no one could have forseen that within 6 months the whole blu-ray / hd-dvd argument would be over.
For your information, ABC in the US have been broadcasting in HD for over 10 years.
But as I keep saying Winston, these are my opinions. You're allowed yours and I'm allowed mine.

  • Help needed to find a replacement HDD for Dell Studio 1558

    Hi,
My laptop HDD is 5 yr old and started to give a lot of read/write errors recently, I'm also finding very difficult to back the data from my laptop to my Seagate external HDD.When I copy the files to external HDD it gives I/O error. When multiple files are copied the fan runs at high speed makes lot of noise and the laptop.shuts down due to overheating. Due to this I got a chkdsk to scan and fix the errors on my external drive due to data copy failure taking additional 4hrs to scan for errors. My laptop.internal drive is Seagate momentus ST9500325AS 5400 rpm 500 GB,2.5" internal 8 MB cache SATA 3.0 GB/s drive and find that the drive is unavailable in my country.
I've just seen Seagate momentus Thin ST500LT012 500 GB 5400 RPM 16 MB Cache SATA 3.0 GB/s 2.5" internal Laptop/Notebook Hard disk on Amazon and would like to.know if I can replace my old with this
I was not sure to order this online since it reads thin I doubt if it would be slimmer than the old one and might not be an alternative.
I would also greatly appreciate if someone could suggest an alternative HDD preferably Seagate to replace for Dell 1558 studio
    Thanks in advance.
    Kar

First try to make a Dell Backup and Recovery 16 GB Bootable USB using the latest version of Dell Backup and Recovery:
    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/dell-backup-and-recovery-1-8-1-71/
The instructions are for Windows 8.1 but should be similar for Windows 7.
New drives will be slimmer. I recommend you replace the HDD with a SSD if you want a significant performance boost. Crucial SSDs include a spacer for seating into your system and guarantee compatibility:

  • Compatible printers for Mac mini (Mac's)

Where can I find a list of compatible printers for Mac. My current Windows printer is a Canon LBP-1120 and cannot use it with my Mac mini. So its probably time to get another printer for my Macs.

I should add that there are a number of printers that are compatible and that don't necessarily appear to be so as a result of third-party drivers. This includes, if I'm not mistaken, some Canon models which can be plugged in and selected in Printer setup.
Others, such as at least some Epson, HP and Lexmark models, are supplied with Windows and MacOS drivers (you need to make sure they're for the right version of MacOS) or the box will be labelled such that it indicates PC/Mac compatibility.
You might take a quick look at the printers offered through the online Apple store (under Mac accessories) to get an idea of which makes to look at. This will only tell you about current models of course, but should at least prove a reliable starting point.

  • I have a Sony DCR -SR32 which does not appear in the list of compatible cameras for imovie '11. Does anyone know if there is way to import files from this camera ?

I have a Sony DCR-SR32 HDD video camera which does not appear in the list of compatible cameras for imovie '11. Does anyone know if there is way of importing video from this camera to imovie ?
    Thanks
    Pheona

    Greetings Pheona,
That appears to be a hard drive based camecorder.  Usually these mount on the desktop of your computer as a little white hard drive icon.  If you go inside you should be able to find the movie files the camera is saving.  See what format they are (the last 3 letters at the end of the file name is a good place to start).
You can drag the movie files from the camera hard drive to the computer to copy them.  Then convert them with a video file conversion program to a format iMovie can understand.
Try converting one of the files using a video file conversion program like Video Monkey: http://videomonkey.org/downloads/
In the "Convert to" drop down menu choose "DV" (Preferred), "Quicktime", or "MP4".  Then import the resulting file into iMovie and see if that works any better.
If that program can't convert the files you can try another file conversion program:

I have tried ordering a MK4008GAH but it has a different interface that is not compatable. Does anyone know what drive I should buy to replace the MK3004GAH and where I should buy it from?

  • Fix for Envy TouchSmart 15-j078ca (or any other laptop) sound not working

If you are having problems with the sound on your Envy 15 laptop (speaker/headphone jack not working), there is a straightforward way to fix your problems.
First go through these simple steps (they could very well save you some time if they work):
    1) Update your drivers! Seriously, this is one of the top fixes for problems on PCs. If you haven't updated your drivers, search for "Check for Updates" and click that result (you can search using the Charm; the result will be under settings). If you have, read on.
    2) Check to see if your audio device is enabled. On your desktop, right-click the Speakers icon and go to Playback devices. Set audio devices to default (like headsets and speakers) on by rightclicking them and selecting "Set as default". This way, they will work when plugged in, and when taken out, the system will default to other available sound sources.
If your chosen device is not present, right click in the open space and check "Show Disabled Devices". Now, you can rightclick a device and Enable it, then going through the same process as above to set them as default.
    3) If your devices are enabled and plugged in, try the Windows Troubleshooter. Press the Windows key to bring up the Windows 8 interface (or the Start Menu in Win7) and type "Troubleshooting". Select it from the Settings section on the right side, then go to "Troubleshoot audio playback" under Hardware and Sound. Run the troubleshooter
If none of these methods work, follow the instructions in this excellent post, but use the changes below:
    1) Use the audio driver specifically for this laptop model (or the driver that works for your model. Enter your product name under Drivers and Downloads on this page if you are American, or this page if you are Canadian. The driver will be under Audio).
    2) Remove both the AC adapter and  the battery before performing the hard reset, then hold down only the power button for 15 seconds (or follow the instructions here if the battery is fixed in place).
    3) Press Escape repeatedly on boot-up until you get the option to use the BIOS menu.
Hopefully this helps, I know it helped me! Remember to give Kudos to the post linked if it helped you.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome.Thank you for the detailed information very very helpful. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j078ca  Notebook and the popping sound or crackling noises.
Here is a document on troubleshooting sound.
Please make sure your updates have been done on the Notebook. In the device manager under sound right click and update the driver. Here is another step to try.
    1. Right click the Speaker icon in the bottom right corner by your time.
    2. Click Playback Devices.
    3. Click Speakers/Headphones.
    4. Click Properties.
    5. Click the Advanced tab on the Properties window.
    6. Change the Default Format drop-down to the highest quality.
    7. Apply the properties.
    8. Click OK to close the properties window.
    9. Click OK to close the Playback Devices.
    Hope this helps you.

  • I need to replace my Apple HDD Toshiba MK5065GSXF Media, can I use any 2,5" internal SATA HDD for this?

    Hi guys,
I'm in a situation where my Apple HDD Toshiba MK5065GSXF Media has completely given up on me. I cannot understand why Toshiba is being used anyhow, together with SeaGate these were assured failures back when I did IT. My question however is: can I simply replace it with any 2,5" internal SATA HDD that I'd wish to use? I tend to favour any WD HDD. I'm running my MacBook Pro off an external HDD nowadays, but it's not a useful option as I'd like to use it at school and all that.
I'd really appreciate your answers and/or recommendations
    GJ

I really like the HGST Travelstar 7K1000 and it would be a good fit for a 2012 model: 7200rpm, 1TB capacity and SATA III speeds. I have a number of them that I use to clone my internal SSD and have put one inside my MacBook Pro just to see how it performs - top notch!
That's my recommendation - HGST is made by Hitachi and I've always had good luck with Hitachi drives.
