Compatible logic boards

I need to replace the logic board of my 17"" 1.5 Mghz Powerbook. First the sound went and then the whole computer. Could please any tell me which logic boards are compatible with my Powerbook? Is it only a logic board from exactly the same model?

If your Mac was purchased under a year ago, I'd contact AppleCare to ask for a replacement. Also if your machine is older than a year, and you didn't purchase AppleCare, this is going to be a very costly proposition. Always buy AppleCare for laptops.

My guess is only the exact same model logic board is compatible. Many Mac models also use specific cooling gels, and have to get it installed a specific way. If you want to purchase out of AppleCare, you can try from a place like:

And then take the machine to a repair shop that repairs Macs.

I have inherited a dead AlBook 12", model A1104 (I believe it's a 1.5gHz) with a bad Logic Board.
I know that the Earlier 12" without the DVI port are not compatible.

Thanks for posting back with an update. Funny thing, I checked PowerBook tech, but did not check the 1.33 GHz, which would have been the logical thing to check. Wow! That is good to know. There are quite a few 12" PB G4 1.5 Hz owners who have dysfunctional logic boards. This will be helpful for them to know.

I have 2 of the same display as yours - I have one 23" that does not power up at all and I am trying to figure out how to get it fix, and the other has the light blinking issue (short-long-short-pause) that I got it to work with a paper strip in the middle pin of the power connector.

Mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15" 2.8 GHz Logic Board Part Number

I have been searching for a few hours trying to find the part number for the logic board one of my MBPs. I, unfortunately, have the Mid-2010 15" MBP with the bad GPU that results in endless kernel panics. (I also had the first Pentium chip, the pentium 60 with the floating point error in 1995 too). I upgraded the MBP to the 2.8 GHz, core i7 (2 core) processor when I ordered it in 2010.
Anyway, the apple tech guide exploded view does not show the part number for the 2.8 GHz. It only shows the part numbers for the other 3 configurations - 2.4, 2.53 and 2.66. I took the cover and discovered my my EEE code is "QAG".
I have just started trying to figure this issue out (too much time has passed and Apple will charge me to fix). I want to try and find a replacement logic board and do it myself. Does anyone have an idea what my part number is for the logic board? None of the sites I searched have a 2.8 GHz board listed just 2.66.
An alternative question - In my PC building days, some motherboards were compatible with multiple speeds of main processors. My computer model number
MC373LL/A
is the same as the 2.66GHz model. Does the 2.66 GHz logic board support the 2.8 core i7 too? I don't want to screw up and order the wrong part.
OSX Yosemite is installed.

Imac late 2006. Is it my logic board?

Ok so I tried everything and its about to be a year. so ill just start from the beginning so around this time last year I Believe it was on Christmas eve or before it anyway's I decided to buy mac OSX snow leopard because my mac was still running on tiger so I went out to buy the disc etc and when I get home back up all my files an restart the computer and boot from the cd cause I was going to do a clean install I wipe out my hard drive and then when I go to install it I see a message saying I cant install it on this computer because I don't meet the ram requirements. and I was sort of stupid cause I didn't remember I was still running on 512 Mb of ram that came with my mac so now I have my computer wiped and I get a bit mad so I go to the apple store and they tell me its not really a big deal all I need to do is to buy at least 2 gigs of ram and I will have no problems installing it so he gives me a paper saying what ram I need to buy for my computer. so I go to fry's and buy a patriot 2 gig DDR2 SDRAM 667 MHz PC2-5300 unbuffered and all the stuff that makes the ram compatible with my mac so I go home open the ram access doors for the first time but before that the guy at the apple store showed me how to do it and there was an article on apples web site. after I put it in and re place the 512 Mb that came on the top slot I turn it on and and cross my fingers to hope it works and I get to the installation screen and let it install after 30 min or so I come back "installation complete" I was happy it worked and everything was fast huge upgrade from being stuck with tiger. so about 1 in a half month later I get on my mac and I hear 3 beeps and I start freaking out so I go on apple web site with my iPod and there I learned that the 3 beeps meant bad ram. so I go to the Apple store and they tell me patriot doesn't really work well on IMac's so I go to fry's and get a new 2 gig but this time a Kingston. I get home put it in (same slot) turn it on and it works! so about 2 months later I'm thinking I want to upgrade my computer to 4 gigs but then one day I turn on my comp and same thing! so I go to fry's get 4gigs (2: 2gigs) get home and this time I install for the very first time a ram in the bottom slot ( so now I got 2gig on top and 2 gig on bottom slow) turn on the computer. and..... beep.....beep......beep the same thing I have got these past months 3 beeps( and if your wondering it is the right ram and all) so at this point I don't know what to do so I take the ram out. and I do nothing a few weeks later I go to fry's to get some of my money back because it was like 50 dollars and get just a single 2 gig get home put it in and it beeps for a tiny sec then suddenly stops and I see the apple logo. after a few weeks it did the same thing but this time I took out my 2 gig and let it sit out side and like one day later I put in the ram it came with 512 and it worked but it was really slow. so one last time went to the apple store and the guy told me it was a bad logic board and that it would be pricey to fix it. so after that from that day till this day Wednesday, December 21 my mac just turns on when it wants to and doesn't turn on and gives me 3 beeps. around September of this year I had my mac turning on successfully with no beeps running on 512 Mb of ram until on Oct I turn it on and 3 beeps. my 2 gig of ram the month before that got chipped of by the clips on my iMac( and by the way all this time I have not been forcing it to go in etc and adding to much force to get it damaged. so now basically my mac could go for 3 weeks then one day you can turn it on and others were I'm stuck with 3 beeps. and even some times I turn it on it does 3 beeps for one round and suddenly out of no were stops and boots up. I really like this mac although I cant upgrade past snow leopard but its the only good computer I have right now cause when this computer acts up i have to use my stupid slow windows vista laptop, and this is my last chance to see if anyone could help me cause I tried everything Excuse me from my grammar and spelling but I want to try and make this as quick and legible as I can.

That iMac 4,1 Core Duo is an Early 2006 model that only supports 2x1GB modules for a total of 2GB.

Multiple Logic Board Failures... Advice?

My black MacBook is less than two years old. Starting this past January, I have had a total of three logic boards fail, along with other hardware failures, including the SuperDrive and Keyboard/Trackpad Module.
Every time the board fails, it is because of a different problem than the last time. First, a connection wire was faulty, causing the Super Drive to be replaced as well. The second time I don't know what was wrong with it, but it was replaced along with the Keyboard/Trackpad Module. This last time, the Speaker/Headphone connections were stuck, which again, caused the Geniuses to replace the Logic Board. The LCD screen was also replaced, but because of dead pixels. Also the hard drive quit working (thank god for backups). I am now on my 4th Logic Board in less than 6 months.
My computer is still covered by AppleCare for another year and a half, but the repeated servicing and re-registering programs is getting a bit ridiculous. Not to mention, if this keeps happening after the warranty runs out, it will be very expensive. I have no money to buy a new computer. The only reason I have this one is because I got it for my 18th birthday from my family.
Is there anything that I and/or Apple can do in this case?

Many things can cause a logic board to fail, from environmental problems to a run of defective parts used in the manufacture of a particular batch of boards. What you can do to help prevent problems are:
1) avoid giving your system (or any electronic device or component) any sort of static shock. Static electricity can easily damage solid-state devices. If in the area in which you have your computer you're regularly getting shocks when you touch metal or grounded devices, you need to take steps to reduce the static electricity buildup.
2) make sure you're properly grounded whenever you access the internals of the system, such as to remove or install RAM or hard drives, and install only quality components verified as compatible with your computer.
3) use high-quality power protection devices on the AC power to your computer and any connected devices (printers, scanners, networked devices, etc.) The $10 "hardware store special" surge protectors generally do more harm than good; get high-quality surge protectors or, better, a power conditioner or uninterruptible power supply with good power filtering.
Beyond that, it's rather the luck of the draw. But MacBooks in general have as good a track record of reliability as any laptop and better than many.

Is there a way of testing the logic board via Terminal?

About 5 days ago, my mac book pro experienced the gray screen flashing folder scenario, telling me that it can't find the OS.
I opened in Internet Recovery mode, and when opening disk utility to check my hard drive, the hard drive didn't show.
After a breif call to apple support, it looked like my hard drive was kapput, so I bought another hard drive (something I've wanted to upgrade for a while anyway).
The new hard drive is a seagate momentus xt 750GB, and fairly sure it's compatible as I watched a youtube vid showing me how to replace the hard drive with the very same drive.
The disk utility cannot find this hard drive either, which means it could be a number of things, the worst being an issue with the logic board..
I cannot open in apple diagnostic mode, but I can access terminal without an OS, can I check the logic board, or anything else that could be causing the problem from there?
I'm trying to find out as much as I can about the problem before I have to pay to get it diagnosed.. hopefully it just needs a replacement SATA cable!

Did you format the new drive? This can be done with the Internet Recovery Mode. Try booting holding the command option R keys to get to Disk Utility.

may not be aware is that Apple dumped AHT this past June. New Macs, introduced in June 2013 or later, no longer include the software. Instead, they have an entirely new diagnostic application called, appropriately enough, Apple Diagnostics. You access Diagnostics exactly the same way as you do AHT: Hold down the D key at startup.

They have a toll-free number. You could ask if another board # would be compatible.
Another option is to contact recylers or schools shucking off older gear. Using the enigma of " A used computer is worth more parted out," you might be able to pick up another G5 cheaper than its LB. Unless the LB had the dreaded "leaky capacitor" failure, most computers don't get discarded for a bad LB.

I have had an iphone 3g for some time now and the speeds on the device are very slow compared to other phones. Is it possible to put in a 3Gs of 4 logicboard in my 3G to make it run faster or posssibly out a better camera in it?

To purchase a working 3GS or 4 Logic Board will cost you more than buying a complete perfect iPhone 3GS or 4.
Why it will not work. 3GS Logic Board in 3G will require:
3GS compatible battery, dock with 3GS antenna, 3GS camera, 3GS camera mount, 3GS LCD Display, 3GS Digitizer, I have probably left out a few others.
With iP4 Logic Board nothing is compatible at all.
This would not even work for the iP4 GSM and CDMA models, they are so different in construction you could not even swap Logic Boards iP4 to iP4. You can't even swap the back covers on the iP4 they are different. Only the iP4 batteries can be swapped, but Apple even gave them different part numbers, but supposedly they are identical.

Need help buying a logic board!!!

So I posted a while back about my mac failing to boot up. Now I concluded it was the logic board that was faulty. I need help deciphering what the part numbers mean.
My logic board part number is 630-6694/T6690 and model 820-1592-A. This came with the dual 2.0 ghz PPC970fx 90nm model (June 2004). There are boards with the same model number as mine, but different part number prefixes (i.e. 661-xxxx instead of 630-xxxx), so what does this mean????
I would like to really get the latest motherboard that is still compatible with the processors, if that's possible? I have seen different dual socket boards like 820-1760-A, which I'm interested in since it is the Early 2005 model.
Can anyone here with technical knowledge shed some light on what these model numbers and part numbers mean?

Replacing logic board uni macbook pro 17"

I want to upgrade my macbook pro 17 early 2009 by replacing old logic board with logic board of macbook pro 17 mid 2009 (3.06). Is it compatible with newer one?

I can't find a definitive answer to this question, though my suspicion is that it may be compatible. But if it is, you'd be paying a very large amount of money for a speed upgrade of almost negligible significance. (2.66GHz or 2.93GHz to 3.06GHz). At most that's a 15% improvement — barely perceptible, if perceptible at all, in day-to-day use.

Which logic boards will fit my Macbook 5,1?

I am looking to upgrade my late 2008 Macbook and would like to replace the logic board instead of purchasing a new computer (I know it's expensive, and I've already upgraded to 8GB of RAM and 750GB storage). The 5,1 Aluminum Unibody was an oddball in the MacBook series. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the White and Black MacBooks or the 13" MacBook Pros. The 2.4Ghz 5,1 Aluminum Unibody Logic board would fit though.

I have another question similar to the one about whether or not different cases can be interchanged.
My "new" question is this:
Are the 3 "early 2005" Power Mac logic boards interchangeable? In other words, could one use a dual 2.0 or 2.3 or 2.7 ghz logic board in any of these models
or is each logic board specific to the speed of the processor? Or can the quad 4 2.5 ghz logic board be substituted into a dual 2.7 ghz case?

Hi, sorry for the bump. I am looking to get a new logic board for my G5. I've been looking around eBay and some info you said contradicts the descriptions of some items, namely:

The 820-1760-A only has 4 ram slots, and by what Steve said, can only be compatible with the 2.0 ghz processors. The second listing has a model number of 820-1592-A, which the seller claims is compatible with 2.0+ ghz processors.
So which one of you is right? I'm looking to replace my June 2004 board which has the same model number as the second listing, but am not sure if that listing is an Early 2005 model or not...

i just bought a G5 and i am looking to upgrade it. I just bought the 2.66 ghz processors, and I am looking to buy a new logic board and was wondering if i bought a 2009 logic board would it still be compatible with the 2006 processors?

Unlike PCs (that stayed with one Hardware manufacturer year after year, and therefore did not change much of anything for decades) Mac hardware has been allowed to evolve over time. Macs have gone through several different processors from different manufacturers over the years.
It is a tribute to the superior engineering of the Mac Operating System that Apple has been able to extend and migrate Mac OS to accommodate wildly different hardware. Enormous incompatibilities tend not to appear all-at-once.
But change must eventually come. If you fancy running Mac OS X 10.6, it runs only on Intel Processors. The G5 is the last of the Motorola/IBM PowerPC processor series. The first was released about 1994 (PowerPC 601 in the 6100 series) and the last G5 was discontinued about 2006. There are a great number of people still running G4 and G5 Macs, generally using Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5. There are still a number of fairly vibrant forums on this Hardware and Software.
But if you want to end up with a working Mac Pro, you need to start with a Mac Pro chassis, not a G5 chassis. As Kappy points out the Processors, drives, peripheral interfaces, chassis cut-outs, Power Supply and most importantly Airflow/Cooling (with processor-controlled fans) are completely different, and there is no sensible way to adapt a G5 chassis to intel processors.
Starting with a Mac Pro chassis, the upgrades will only be difficult instead of impossible.
