Compatible NIC for Solaris 9 (9/05) x86

Hi,
Please can someone recommend me a cheap PCI Network card for Solaris 9 (9/05) for an Intel based PC (x86).
I currently have a US Robotics NIC installed, but Solaris does not recognise it and its been too much hassle to find drivers for it etc, so have decided to purchase another NIC that Solaris will recognise straight away!
Any recommendations?
Cheers
Wajid

  • Reconfigure reboot for Solaris 10 u5 x86 guest in VirtualBox

    Hello,
I just installed the new kernal patch into a Solaris 10 u5 x86 32-bit guest OS in VirtualBox 2.0.4 on a WinXP 32-bit host. I need to do a reconfigure reboot. I can't seem to get to the ok prompt from which to use boot -r. init 0 does not work, it only offers a "push any key to reboot."
What is the optimal way to initiate a reconfigure reboot for Solaris 10 in my setup?
I tried the grub-based technique in which, upon reboot, I get the grub menu and push "e." That gets me to another grub screen with 3 entries. I selected the kernal entry, pushed "c" to add "-r" to the end of the line, and then "b" to reboot. Is that the best way to reconfigure reboot for Sol 10 x86.
The above method did configure devices on reboot, but I'm not sure that is the best way to boot -r
    Thank you in advance...

x86 machines (including virtual machines) do not have an OBP or an 'ok' prompt.
You have to manipulate the GRUB either through interactive commands like you've shown, or by editing the menu.lst file to change boot parameters.
Of course for reconfiguration, you also have the option of touching '/reconfigure' and doing a normal reboot.

  • Need driver for DFE-530TX+ NIC for Solaris 10

I'm having a real hard time finding an installing the driver that i need for my D-Link DFE-530TX+ NIC card. I found the Driver name, and the version in the Solaris HCL. But there is not any way for me to download the driver from the Sun's web site.
Does anyone knows where I can find a working driver for my Solaris 10 OS. Please let me know...
    Thank you.

Yes, that model NIC from D-link is listed in the HCL:
    http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/components/details/990.html
D-link is one of those manufacturers that will occasionally change
the chipset they use in their products, yet NOT change a product name.
(Netgear did it a few years ago with their FA31x line of cards.)
Does your card use the RealTek chipset that was mentioned in that HCL entry?
You will need to take it out of the computer and examine it.
If "Yes", then get the driver from RealTek, directly:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=6&PFid=6&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#2
... there's no place like the original manufacturer.
If you prefer to compile and install your own from someone else's source,
there is a download available from this third-party web link:
    http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/
Masa Murayama's drivers page has been available for many years
and is one of the 3rd party links on Sun's HCL page.

  • Reg: How to Configure internet for solaris 10 in x86 32 bit

    Hi,
I am new to Sun Solaris can any one help me detailed step of how to configure internet for standalone pc. Thanks in Advance
    Thanx
    MA

    OK, the classical way:
    Open a terminal.
    Type
    ifconfig -a
    ifconfig -a plumb
    ifconfig -a
Note the differences, it will plumb ALL available interfaces this way. So, now you can see, which device is your network card.
    Then perform a
    ifconfig <interface> unplumb
for all the newly interfaces (aka those, that were new in the last ifconfig -a output).
    Then, the simple way:
    cd /etc
vi hostname.<interface-driver-name>0 (example: hostname.rge0, the driver would be rge, the instance is 0, and rge0 would have been displayed as an available interface in the last ifconfig command). Add the name of the host into this file.
    Then
    vi /etc/inet/hosts
and add the pair of IP-address and hostname.
    If needed:
    vi /etc/inet/netmasks
if you have a sub-divided network, and you need a differenbt subnet mask...
    Then:
    vi /etc/defaultrouter
and add the name or ip-adress of the gateway... (name only, if you have that name also in the /etc/inet/hosts file!)
    Also:
    vi /etc/nodename
and add the name of your host into that file, so that the system knows, who it is... ;-)
And: For the DNS you can then add the infos into:
    /etc/resolv.conf
    For example:
    nameserver 192.168.2.1
    or some such...
Then, as the last but one step:
    ls /etc/nsswitch.*
    and:
    cd /etc
cp nsswitch.<what you need> nsswitch.conf (should be .files here!)
    And the reboot... ;-)
    HTH!
    Matthias
P.S.: There might be some GUI, but I'm an old-timer, so I prefer the command-line version of things...

  • Kernel patch updation for solaris 10 x86

I have Solaris 10 06/06 installed on x86 machine which is using svm and clustered with another node. The kernel revision is 118855-19 from the uname -a output. I am looking for the kernel patch updation and I heard 118855-36 is the latest one. Shall I go ahead with this patch and what r the dependency patches for this.
If anyone done this please guide me..

Patch 118855-36 is the latest kernel patch for Solaris 10 on x86 and its dependencies are:
    113000-01 117435-02 118344-14 119043-09 119255-14 121264-01 122035-01 123840-01 (or greater)
Whether you should go ahead and install the patch is up to you, if possible try it out on a test box first. For better advice on this matter, I would suggest posting in the Solaris 10 forum as this forum is for the Sun Update Connection, Patch Manager & PatchPro toolsets.
