Compatible non-Apple LCD screens replacement

Hello,
I have a not working LCD screen and since we can't find anymore LCD screens for our iMac G4, do you know any LCD screen (laptop parts, etc) that is compatible with the iMac G4 ?
I don't know if the TMDS is Apple-specific and is different with screen size. I am looking for a lcd compatible screen for my 17" G4.
Thanks !

The TMDS looks NOT Apple-specific. It didn't work since it's not the correct screen, but I took apart an Acer Aspire 1340 screen and it has the same connector that fits perfect on the G4 cable (the G4 didn't recognize the screen, someone told me it might be a powering trouble).

  • IMac LCD screen replaced, Blue Screen startup

Hi there, I just had the LCD screen replaced on my late 2007 Aluminum iMac today (due to a permanent red vertical streak) by an Applecare certified technician. He did a meticulous job with the replacement, and the iMac booted up just fine afterwards. About an hour later, though, I tried starting up the iMac and after the grey screen with the Apple logo it gets stuck on a blue screen with a constantly spinning pinwheel.
Now I tried everything, booting up in Safe Mode, Single User Mode, resetting the PRAM, FSCK, Disk Utility using Disk Repair, unplugging the power cord for 30 seconds, etc. and nothing seems to work. It just gets stuck on a blue screen whenever it tries to boot up.
Just wanted to see if there is anything else I could try out before I give Apple a call tomorrow, if this boot up problem is a result of the new LCD screen replacement or what? Any help or insight in the matter would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Update: I should note that right now I'm in the (lengthy) process of restoring from a Time Machine save to see if that helps out in any way.

You could try the following first, but a repair may be required.
iMac G5: Fails to startup (From an article at MacFixit)
Some users are reporting an issue where iMac G5s fail to properly startup -- apparently at a hardware level -- never reaching the Mac OS X startup splash screen (Apple logo with a spinning progress indicator).
Note that in cases where the system does reach the Mac OS X startup splash screen or further progression but stalls, software issues may be to blame.
    Potential fixes
Disconnect external devices External devices -- especially those that draw power from the system -- can cause issues with startup that manifest either at the beginning of or later in the boot process. Try temporarily any external FireWire or USB devices then re-attempt startup and check for persistence of the issue.
Reset SMU Although this workaround was not successful in Connors' case, resetting the iMac G5's SMU (system management unit) as described in Apple Knowledge Base article #301733 can resolve a variety of power-related problems, including sudden-onset startup failure.
Check power cables Check your power cord for a loose connection. As noted in the aforementioned reader case, unplugging and re-plugging the power cord can sometimes result in a successful startup -- likely the result of a more snug fit.
Also, power cables can become defective or ship in such a state.
Try exchanging the power cable from a problematic machine with a system that starts up properly to eliminate this as a potential cause.

  • Is there a way I can tell if I have glossy or non-glossy LCD screen?

    Hi,
I bought my MacBook Pro about a year ago and I don't remember if I have a glossy or non-glossy LCD screen. Some people say you can look at it and tell, but I don't know what I am looking for. My invoice doesn't say.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

I'm not aware of anything in the Hardware Profiler that will tell you which display you have. If you can see reflections on the screen (they are particularly visible if the display is showing something dark and there's something light behind you) then the screen is glossy. A matte display is like frosted glass so it won't show any clear reflections on it.

  • Font rendering issue / Mountain Lion / non Apple LCD display

    Hello
This font rendering issue or problem is probably well know by Apple crew too but nobody has solved it yet. Only poor solution are available such as try to adjust manually font rendering by writin some scripts concerning anti alias levels...they really dont solve the problem.
Could Apple bring us solution to this by developing or updating Mountain Lion?
So what is the problem: font rendering is very poor in Mountain Lion when using non Apple LCD. For example Fujitsu SL27T-1 LED (LCD displa) shows fonts very nice way in Windows but in Mac OS ML does not. Somebody told me that its about software vs. hardware rendering. Dont know about that but could you bring me the solution which is not advising me to buy Apple display (which is five times more expensive than other manufactures displays).
    Br
    M. Leino

just want to add that overall fonts look blurry and they are not very sharp.

  • Anyone ever have lcd screen replaced under warranty?

We've had our ipod for less than 1 month and the lcd screen is now showing garbage although the exterior of the screen and surrounding case does not show any damage at all. We don't know what happened to it. My son carries it in a case in his pockets but has not dropped it or damaged it in any way. Has anyone else had this problem and have you been successful in getting Apple to replace the screen under the initial warranty?
    ipod G5   Other OS

    They might replace it.
You have a much bette rchance if there is no damage on teh outside (such as a dent where it might look like you dropped/smashed it).
I suggest you take it to an Apple store if there's one close by. Be assertive (not rude) and don't take "no" for an answer.
You could send it back but if you talk directly with someone, you'll have a better chance.

  • T400 LCD Screen Replacement -

    Hi gurus:
This concerns replacement of LCD Screen on my 14" T400 Laptop, which i'd purchased on Jan 14 2009.
    >> This is a LED backlit WXGA+ Screen.
    Usage:
    ** Very light usage; 2-3 hrs/week;
** Used this as a standby for my work laptop.
** Sparingly used for pretty much anything.
** I am very disappointed with this laptop and all through its performance and battery life has been very sluggish. (1 hr battery at the most).
    >> Runs very slow even with Vista/XP downgrade
    Problem:
    >> 1.5 yrs later, the LCD screen on this laptop doesn't turn on.
    >> I have tried the LCD Troubleshooting Guide @:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4YQHUC
** The screen is just plain dead. No startup blink. Nothing.
** Identified the following part details from my order:
    From Order Confirmation:

    SBB 14.1"WXGA+LEDB/L BTCAMWWAN
    FRU Part#
Mfg part#   FRU part #  Description    Serviceable?
42T0503     42T0504 14.1 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU YES
** What are my options in getting going with this laptop?
    >> The LCD screen conking out in this manner with minimal use is unacceptable, according to me.
    >> I had checked the price online for the Retail replacement part, and it brings it to a total of $400 approx.
Is there any extended warranty for the LCD screens? Any advise over where to buy from?
    Regards,
    Raghav

    Hi Rich:
    Thanks for your reply.
    * I tried connecting the VGA cable to my LCD Monitor/TV, but i do not see any output after selecting the Secondary Display.
    * When i boot up the Machine, the LCD does not blink/flicker e.t.c, but i can see that the regular bootup is happening as i look at the Hard Drive light and it keeps flickering.
    * How do i check the LCD sub card? I am assuming its the panel because the LED Light on top of the Screen seems to turn on.
    * Yes i have only the 1 year warranty.
    >> My previous Dell Inspiron which had the same warranty term lasted about 4 years and only gave up because of the Motherboard.
I personally bought a Thinkpad thinking it was reliable, but this is quite bad, especially for a sparingly used laptop.
    regards,
    Raghav

  • Apple Store Screen Replacement Time?

I dropped off my mid-2010 MacBook Pro todtheto get the screen replaced but I wanted to know how much time it'll take, they have the part, so theoretically it shouldn't take long.
Anyone have any experience with this?

When I dropped mine off to get the screen replaced the first time, my local store had my machine for 9 days. After I picked it up and found it had the wrong screen on it (they replaced my 1920x1200 hi-res with a 1680x1050 screen) I spent a couple hours on the phone and they replaced the screen the second time while I waited. They replaced the screen twice and the logic board once and I was only in the store about 2.5-3 hours, but that was after waiting a little over a week to get the parts in for them to do the repair each time.
So, to answer your question, it depends upon your specific circumstances, and how backlogged your particular store/repair center is. If the store you went to is particularly busy, it may take a while.

  • If I crack my screen, do i have to buy a whole lcd screen replacement, or is there a way to just replace the glass?

I have a iphone 5 and have recently dropped it. theres a crack on the screen and theres a pretty steep price difference between a screen thing and the lcd/digitizer part plus the screen thing.
Whats the difference and how can i tell if i need to buy the lcd/digitizer also or not?

    Apple does not sell parts.
There are no legitimate sources for iPhone parts.
The iPhone is not considered user servicable.
Apple will sell you an out of warranty replacement phone for $229. If you attempt to repair it yourself, you forfeit that option.

  • There are white squares on my screen at the top.  Apple care is telling me I'm out of warranty.  This seems like an Apple LCD screen issue.  The problem seems to be widespread.  How is apple dealing with this.  apple care told me it would cost me 260.00

Apple should be fixing this problem for free.  It is a hardware issue.  Check the Web.  A lot of your customers are having the same problem.  If I have to spend money to fix this I will be choosing a different cell phone provider

That the problem has happened to someone else, or even to a couple of dozen people, does not make it a "widespread problem". Apple has sold millions of iPhones, so even if hundreds have experienced the problem that's still a very small failure rate.
Your iPhone is out of warranty, so you will need to pay for service. If Apple finds this to be a screen issue, in many Apple Stores they can replace the screen for US $149. If it's not a screen issue or your local Apple Store can not yet replace the screen, then Apple replaces the entire iPhone. Those are their policies, and complaining about it, particular here in these user-to-user forums, will accomplish nothing.
You are free to pay some unauthorized shop to attempt repair, or attempt your own repair, if you wish, though you will void any further support from Apple, for any price, if you do.
There is nothing more anyone here can tell you.
    Regards.

  • Apple Store Screen Replacement?

I recently dropped my iPod Touch 4th gen and the screen "spider-web" cracked on the lower left corner, but it still works fine. Would my local Apple Store be able to replace the screen? I bought the iPod in 3/2011 at Sams Club with no extra warrenty.

Warranties for most any porduct do not cover damage.
You could call your local Apple Store and see what they charge to repair/replace a broken ipod screen.

  • Can I use two  non-apple displays on my G5? Is there an adaptor for this?

I found a great deal on two non-Apple wide screen displays. I can hook up one to my G5 via the DVI port but can't use the second port--typically used by an Apple Display. Is there an adaptor that I can use so that I can use my second non-apple display?

  • Why won't my macbook pro recognize my replaced lcd screen?

I replaces a cracked lcd screen in my unibody macbook pro early 2011. Under About this Mac, Displays, I could still see the old monitor plus the external monitor I was using with thunderbolt port. After changing out to a new lcd, and reassemblying the mac body, the computer did not recognize the new monitor. Why? I only connected the lvds cable to the motherboard and did not completely close the unibody and rehook up the camera and some other cabling which I think is unrelated to the display. I think that with only the lvds cable connected to the new lcd screen, it should light up and show up under displays. No?

You can try VLC, I belive it supports playback for AVCHD. It I am wrong, it's free, so no harm no foul. You can find it and videolan.org.
As for iMovie, it should recognize AVCHD, unless your camera has some sort of new or proprietary version of the AVCHD codec, in which case you can only cross your fingers and hope Apple updates iMovie as there is no codec plug-in architecture to expand iMovies native support.

  • Apple Hard Drive not working after picking it up for a new LCD screen

I recently picked picked up my repaired MacBook Pro ( replacing LCD screen). It was weird because they didn't test it in front of me or anything, They just handed it to me. When I got back home, i turned it on. It shows the Apple logo and the loading screen. Once the loading screen was full , it would turn off automaticallyy. It turns out my hard drive failed. Even though my my LCD screen was damaged,  everything else on the mac was working fine. this is also my second hard drive , which i purchased in August ( 90 day warranty up) . I feel like this is an Apple issue and they should give me a free hard drive. Is this possible.
The hard drive was fine before they started to repair it.

  • How much does Apple charge to replace a cracked screen?

I bought my unlocked iPhone 3gs with a slightly cracked screen, and now I am looking around to see how much it would cost to replace the screen. More specifically, I am wondering how much Apple charges to replace a cracked screen.

Genius at Apple Store replaces the entire front assembly of iPhone 3GS which includes the Front Screen, LCD, Home Button, Midframe for $99. All Apple Stores (6) in my area do this. If you want to go the Out of Warranty route with complete Replacement iPhone 3GS exactly like yours it would be $149 at Apple Store.
