  • What model of Airport Extreme Card for 2007 Mac Pro 2.6GHz

I am trying to find what model of Airport Extreme Card I need to install into my 2007 Mac Pro 2.6GHz
I understand that there is a 2008 card which is incompatible, so I don't want to buy the wrong one.
    Any help appreciated.
    Laus.

Its really confusing when Apple calls their internal wireless card on a Mac an AirPort Extreme card......and they also market an outboard wireless router called an AirPort Extreme.  See info below:
    http://www.apple.com/airport-extreme/
You posted in the support community for the Apple wireless routers.....AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule.
While it is possible that someone here might be able to answer your question, you will likely receive a much faster and more informated response if you post your question again in the support area for the Mac Pro.
The link to that support area is here:

My home network has an Airport Extreme w/Time Capsule as the base and then an Airport Express and a second Airport Extreme to reach different areas of the house.  Is there a way to use the second Airport Extreme for file storage on this network?  Network is administered through an iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.  Ideally, would like for the second Airport Extreme hard drive to appear on the list of devices in the Finder window.

    Ok.. gottcha
The problem is network wise.. Yosemite is about equal to tin cans and string.. pathetic.
Here is my usual set of instructions to get anything working on Yosemite.
The best way to fix problems is a full factory reset of all the AE in the network.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg AEgen5 and AEwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use AE24ghz and AE5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem for AE which is router.. it is a problem for AE which is bridged.. you will need to set static IP in the main router by dhcp reservations or use static IP in the AE which is tricky.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    6. Now mount the disk of the second AE in finder... manually.
Use Go, Connect to Server and type in the AE ip address.
    SMB://10.0.1.2
Where you will replace that address with the actual address. The network resource should be discovered and then it will request the password.. type that in and make sure you tick to save it in your keychain.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
Do as much as you want of the above... not all of it is necessary.. only if you want it reliable.. or as reliable as Yosemite in its current incarnation can manage.
The most important thing is point 6.. mount the disk using direct IP address and not names.. dns in Yosemite is fatally flawed.

  • How do I get a download since I don't have my start up disc for AirPort Extreme 802.11n

How do I download to start using AirPort Extreme 802.11n.  I can't find my start up disc. and don't see any downloads on Apples website.  Then how do I hook it up to work with my Westell modem?

Please download and install AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows.  The Windows Firewall and or Microsoft Security Essentials will tend to block the connection from your PC to the AirPort Extreme, so you may need to adjust the firewall settings on the PC or check the Essentials application if connection difficulties occur.

  • Specifying IP address for Airport Extreme??

I home office and have a Airport Extreme running my home network. The company I work for only allows me to print to a local printer with an IP address of 192.168.249.10 while VPN'ed into their network. I'd like to connect my printer to my Aiport Extreme, however, I've been completely unsuccessful trying to specify the base IP address.
My router is configured like this:
    TCP/IP = *Using DHCP*
    DHCP = Beginning Address = 192.169.249.10
DHCP Reservations = MAC address of AE reserved to '192.168.249.10'
In spite of the configuration my AE still defaults to 192.168.249.1!
I've tried reserving 192.168.249.10 by DHCP Client ID as well, but still have the same problem.
I've solved the problem previously via an Airport Express using WDS and a DHCP reservation to map it to 192.168.249.10, but I'd like to eliminate it from my network if possible.
    So here are my questions:
    1. +Why is my AE defaulting to 192.168.249.1 even though my starting IP address is 192.168.249.10+?
    2. +Is it possible to specify an IP address for my AE+?
    3. +If so, HOW+??!??!
Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas or solutions are greatly appreciated!!

How does one find the ip address, subnet mask, dns, and default gateway for the airport extreeme?
The simpliest way is directly from the AirPort Utility: AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Manual Setup > Internet > TCP/IP tab. All of these values are listed on this tab.

  • Where do I download drivers for airport extreme.....my iPad can not be set up by he current software

where do I download drivers for airport extreme.....my iPad can not be set up by he current software

I have an airport extreme with updated software(latest) and I setup an Ipad 3 on it with ios6(wirelessly). You can access the airport to update it with the utitlity app on an ios device, mac, or pc. I dont think it has anything to do with the airport software. Did you try rebooting the airport, then trying again?
Like james said, maybe more detail would help someone help you.

  • I changed my internet box and now my airport extreme light flashes amber what I need to do to get the green light back

I changed my internet box and now my airport extreme light is flashing amber but I have internet connection, how can I get the green light back

When you change modem (the internet box I presume) you should reset the AE to factory and redo the setup completely.
However if you merely want to stop the amber flashing.. find the cause.
Open the airport utility and click on the AE..
It will give you a list of faults or problems... fix each one and the light will turn green.
The most likely fault is double NAT.
That means the AE should be in bridge mode.. but if you list the fault we can give you further help with what to do to fix it if you cannot understand the instructions.
Apple does give a procedure to remove the problem although it may not always be the best solution.
eg Ignore.. the light will turn green.
Lately Apple is saying to use double NAT and ignore the problem.. I do not thing that is a good idea at all.
To bridge however may be easier after a full factory reset than trying to do a change to the setup.
If you run Yosemite.. then I recommend the following.. please read AE for TC.. (Time Capsule is what I mainly use but the setup is identical).
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
In your case bridge is most likely required.. and it is up to you how you deal with this one.. for now see if it is stable.. if it gives you issues come back and fix it.
    4. Set IPv6 to link-local only on the computer..
This is strange one in that apple should have fixed this up ages ago.. but we are finding the auto setting even on Yosemite is still giving the wrong setup.

  • Guest Mode for Airport Extreme   Edimax 3G 6200L

    Hello everybody,
I've been dealing with this issue for some time now, and I can't seem to be able to sort it out, so I need your help.
I live in a place where we have lots of guests, so I need to share with them my internet connection. I don't want them to have access to my network, so I would like to create a Guest network.
My hardware is: a 3G Airtel dongle, an Edimax 3G 6200L router and an Apple Airport Extreme 5th generation. The internet comes throught he dongle, I live in Africa and there is no other connection available right now. The dongle is connected to Edimax router, because Airport Extreme doesn't support usb connections.
Then, the Edimax router is set to send internet via ethernet only (wifi is turned off to avoid interference). It is connected (via Ethernet) to the Airport Extreme, which is set to Bridge Mode. Airport Extreme creates and send wifi signal.
The problem is that I cannot set the Guest Network on the Airport Extreme. I know I have to change the Bridge Mode to DHCP or DHCP and NAT, but then the internet doesn't work at all and Airport Utility complains about double NAT.
Can anyone please help me with the configuration? Is there something I must do on the Airport Extreme settings page? Is there something I need to change in Edimax settings page?
    Thank you in advance!

This is going to be difficult.
I think you will have to just test a couple of scenarios.. and you should start by saving the current configuration on both the edimax and the Apple Extreme. Just so you can easily revert if you need to.
    1. Do a test of the actual IP being delivered to your system.
Check the edimax and find the WAN IP .. this is important as many ISP do not give public IP on wireless anyway. If this is the case you are probably wasting your time.. I would simply turn the wireless back on on the edimax and set it to isolation (if possible.. it is not in the manual for the 6200nl I downloaded).. you can set the wireless channel to say 1 and use the AE at 11 but leaving it at auto is usually fine. Use the wireless on the edimax as your guest wireless.. but to properly protect your computer files you may still need to set it to NAT.. and ignore the double NAT.
    2. Put the AE in the DMZ of the Edimax and ignore the double NAT.. this is better than the above.
    3. Turn off the NAT in the edimax
There is no bridge mode mentioned in the manual for the Edimax.. so the only suggestion I can give is to try turning off the NAT in the edimax.. and set the AE to use dhcp for internet and dhcp and NAT for network.. reboot both edimax and AE and see what happens. The IP on the WAN must be different subnet to the IP on the LAN so if both end up 10.x.x x addresses you will need to move the LAN IP of the AE to some other range. .you do this via the dhcp setup .. which is very odd.

  • Extend Air Omni for Airport Extreme

I buyed from Apple Store Online the Extend Air Omni for Airport Extreme, but now my Airport Extreme don't have a antenna port.
    It's possible ?

Only the M8799LL/A & M9397LL/A models of the AirPort Extreme Base Stations (AEBS) provide an external antenna port which you can plug the ExtendAIR Omni.

  • Why can't I install software for AirPort Extreme 802.11n while running Mountain Lion OSX?

Why can't I install software for AirPort Extreme 802.11n while running Mountain Lion OSX?  The installation CD simply says that the software can't be installed while running this OSX.

Mountain Lion already has the most recent, updated version of AirPort Utility installed on your Mac. The version on your CD is out of date, so you can trash the CD.
Look in Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility.

  • Is the maximum number of users for Airport Extreme per device, i.e. 2 AEBS = 100 users, one AEBS extending the other on the same wireless network?

Is the maximum number of users for Airport Extreme per device, i.e. 2 AEBS = 100 users, one AEBS extending the other on the same wireless network?

50 users per device, assuming that the "main" router is setup to deliver an adequate number of network IP addresses for all devices.
2 AEBS = 100 users, but that is really more of a theoretical max.
If you really need 100 connections, it would be much better to use 3 AEBS to spread things out.

  • Recomended USB Printers for Airport Extreme

I have heard and read several good things about the Airport Extreme that I am now planning on purchasing one. Before I do though, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations of the best or better USB printers that are compatible with Aiport Extreme AND a PC/Windows/XP client.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Well, from what I saw today while installing my Cannon Pixma MP160 he found it at once and there is quite list of devices that are supported.I presume that recently new devices are in the list.As for the not taking MFP I can only say that may Cannon is MFP.Yes, I cannot use scan, only print. But I firmly believe that apple will correct this flaw
