Compatible third-party DVD burner

Does anyone know if Apple has a document that list third-party DVD burners compatible with Mac?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Darrell

Wakko Warner,
Thanks, just happened to have run across that web site while determining what my next course of action was going to be. I looked at the Panasonic Internal 16X DVD Dual Layer model and started reading the specs on it. One statement had me wondering. "*Some older systems will not be able to burn discs at full speed due to a slower system bus or IDE bus." What regulates the system bus and IDE Bus speeds? Would it run on a G3 B/W Power Mac with an upgraded G4 Sonnet Processor?

  • Third party DVD burner?

Can anyone recommend a reliable third party DVD burner for my iMac with Lion OS?  iDVD is no longer available.

The latest version of iDVD is very easy to get. (Will run on PPC or intel.)
It is for sale on Amazon and eBay as part of iLife 11 on disk.

I've tried most of the other DVD authoring programs out there. So far, iDVD remains vastly superior.

  • Third Party DVD Drive to Install Tiger

Can a third party DVD drive be used to install Tiger? I have an iBook G3 with a CD ROM drive I would like to install Tiger on.

I can't tell you, as my D2 DVD burnt out quicker than a candle burning at both ends, but of these...

It'd have to be the one with Firewire at least... just don't know what's happened to LaCie in the last couple of years.
    I'd ask OWC about these...

What countries outlawed the shutter noise on a camera?
And wouldn’t BB need to police BB World for programs that would support illegal activity in the countries you mention?
“In case you skipped over reading your link, no where is BlackBerry mentioned. Why would BlackBerry be addressing gaping holes in the Android OS? There is no Android OS on BlackBerry10.”
OF COURSE the article doesn’t mention BB. The point is that while people become more trusting with their devices and are told to “download the app” they tend to not read what they are signing up for. Despite your lack of vision in reference of something that could be phony, malicious programs exist and mobiles are ever increasing as targets.
“Finally, if you want bicker, nitpick and continue off-topic, please create your own thread elsewhere. This is thread is for Feature Requests. I responded to the user with alternatives. You responded with opinion, snarky commentary and inuemndo. Offtopic to this thread.”
I wasn’t off topic. You quashed the users requests with 3rd party apps and gave your opinion on moving apps to an SD card. I was making a point that the need for 3rd party involvement would be unnecessary if the issue was addressed at the OS. As well as a reason to avoid a 3rd party if at all possible, furthermore I was explaining why downloading apps something is to be cautious of.

  • What are the mac-compatible internal/external dvd burner for 12"Pbook

what are the mac-compatible internal/external dvd burner for 12"Pbook

    ibodnano:
You will find internal optical drivers from OWC here. You will find external DVD burners from OWC here.
For the external drives, almost any Firewire burner will be supported by your PowerBook. Here are a few. You can further refine the filters.
    Good luck.

  • Third party DVD player issues

Recently, I have come across an issue playing back DVD's with
VLC or XBMC. When I start playback of the DVD, it plays the first
segment ( the studio leader at the beginning) and will then just quit.
Apple's DVD Player works fine (quality is crappy and can't get surround
tracks out of it). Yet, when the DVD is ripped to the hard drive and
played from there, it is works just fine.
Also, this happens when the DVD is played back from an internal
    or external drive.
Has anyone else seen this issue or do I have a unique problem?

My unit is a 2010 MacMini with HDMI. (see list)
The quality issues with Apple DVD player vs. other solutions are certain
scenes have a graininess akin to noise on old analog tv's that aren't
present on the other players and severe banding in gradients that
do not appear in other players, at least when they were working.
As far as the audio, selection in the DVD's menu itself just makes no difference.
Tried all the combinations of messing with Audio MIDI setup, third party
plugins like Perian, none of which work for Apple's DVD player. This was
the other reason for going to third party players, the higher quality video
    was just a bonus.
Your point has been taken that it may be a software issue with the third party players.
Some update at some point may have broken them, be it OSX or their own.
I've beaten the Apple DVD player issue enough, let's just consider the topic dead.
The audio issues with it are spread over many, many threads across the web, with
no silver bullet solution to all.
As for BluRays, play them back all the time on my Mini. Either with
    PowerDVD 10 in a Bootcamp windows7 when I want full DTS-HD or
TRUE HD decoding (decodes these to up to 24 bit,192kHz 7.1 since the
Mini chipset does not have the "protected" path for pass through of
these technologies) or a MakeMKV/XBMC combo in OSX. The OSX
solution doesn't give you the fancy menus and all or HD audio if present,
but if I only want to watch the movies it's fine. If I ever do want the other
nonsense, I just use PowerDVD 10. And please note this is BluRay disk
in player, not "ripped" or transcoded.
I do appreciate your help, but was primarily curious if others had issue
    as well.

  • IDVD 6 not burning to my 3rd Party DVD burner

    help!
I have an external superdrive but iDVD is not recognizing it and not letting me burn a dvd. When I look at my system profiler it recognizes the lacie burner, but then says that it doesn't support dvd burning?? anybody know about this and how to get around it? thanks!
    Russeau

This is an an external "Firewire" burner, is it not? Did you visit their website for the latest drivers? Did you run apple's software updater immediately after connecting or installing this device?
I like Lacie FW Burners. It's a high quality product. But frankly, I prefer building my own (at half the price) since doing so requires no additional 3rd party drivers.

  • Superdrive or third-party external burner?

I want to buy a dvd burner for my MBA and panasonic camcorder SD5.
Can Superdrive works fine with SD5?
or, can Panasonic's external burner (LF-P968 / VW-BN1) works with MBA?

I used the USB external portable drive which came with the LG A1 ultraportable laptop and it worked great with the Macbook Air. Funny enough, this thing is even slightly thinner and lighter than the MBA Superdrive. I also have the Superdrive, both work great, incl. Boot Camp.

  • Third Party DVD Burners with DVD Pro Studio?!

Currently upgraded to 2 ProMacs .. lovely! However have 3 older G4's that are still able to do a good amount of work with videos, are upgraded with RAM, video cards etc...
However I need to change the internal drives as they are now getting on to be 6 years old and are struggling to read disks... let alone create them. Apple are quoting £200 (inc vat) + installation for them (which is silly as its one of the most simple jobs to do!).
I can get Sony's for £50 inclusive, but have been informed that they will not work with Apple, unless all items to be burned are through Toast. This is no good as I use Final Cut Studio.. and I cannot find a way of checking compatibilty of the drive.
Someone has suggested an external, however I dont know how to change the target drive in DVD Pro Studio... and I cant find a compatible list of drives for DVD pro studio...
    Any help appreciated!!
    TP

I use Pioneers (103, 104, 109s) in externals Firewire cases, easier to move bwteeen machines if needed.
Such as these (although U.S. Store)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/
You target the external burner in the Build and Format Dialog Boxes.
Also you can build the DVD in Final Cut Pro and burn to disc using Toast (if you want the Sony drive). Toast will often provide better/more reliable results than burning through DVD SP. Alot of people use Toast or burn from a disc image.

  • SAP compatible third party software for fingerprint verification

    Hi all,
    I need some technical advice.
Has anyone implemented fingerprint verification into SAP before?
    This is my scenaro:
When a PR document is created, a custom workflow is triggered.
This custom workflow will send the work item to the approver's SAP inbox for approval.
When the approver approves the PR in the SAP inbox, there needs to be a popup/software window to obtain the approver's fingerprint and verify it against the fingerprint stored in it's database.
Is there any 3rd party software out there with the above mentioned capability which can interface/communicate with SAP?
    Thanks a lot in advanced.
    Regards,

  • Third Party DVD Player for MacIntel (not VLC)?

The only software I miss from my Windoze days is PowerDVD. It had many features like step-backward, multiple FF and REW speeds that were keyboard shortcut accessible (vs. Apple DVD player where you set one speed and that's it), screen capture, and it also did a better job of deinterlacing and introduces less "halos" and softening artifacts than Apple's DVD player (and yes, I've tried both with and without the deinterlacing setting enabled). It also zoomed to different resolutions better.
Is there anything analogous to that for Mac OSX, preferably a MacIntel native program? I've searched this forum and versiontracker and google and have come up empty. Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to do the last resort, which is to Bootcamp my MBP in order to have one program.
    Thanks!

You can also manually adjust the video on Apple's built video player by going to the Window menu -> Video Zoom and unchecking lock aspect ratio if you want to customize it.
Try changing the scan rate in the Control menu in the menubar to affect color, as well as change video color in the Window menu of Apple's DVD Player. Often the built-in menus of commercial DVDs let you change the video settings that fit your desired color. If there is a specific commercial DVD that you are having trouble with, maybe I can rent it with Netflix and see if I see the problem you are seeing. It might take me a week to get it, but I'd be happy to experiment with it.
Apple's DVD Player also supports slow and faster play through its floating controller menu that is available via the Window menu -> Show Controller. Note, the slower play is available through the pullout drawer that looks like this:
The top controls that are double arrows are fast forward when held down, as opposed to change chapter if just clicked quickly. command-shift-right arrow on the keyboard (command is the Apple logo key) fast forwards even faster if held down long enough and command-shift-left arrow reverses faster and slower if held down long enough and both go in a loop from 2x to 32x in factors of 2, which when let go will give you the speed you want to change.
Sometimes you can also do a color calibration of your display if you are more used to different color gradients in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays -> Color and then select Calibrate.
To zoom video on Mac OS X, you can also use universal access. Command-Option-8, followed by a command-option-equal sign on the horizontal keys above the main body of the keyboard for increase size, or a command-option-minus sign for decrease size. To disable this feature command-option-8 again. Command is the Apple logo key.
Another DVD Player made for the Mac is Interactual's DVD Player.
Screen Capture of DVD is possible with the freeware Capture Me.

  • Third party CD burning software "overburning"

I have CDs in the mail 800 MB 90 minutes... I's wondering what kind of software can overburn? Perfect duplicate all on one CD

  • Is An External DVD Burner Needed To Reduce Burn Time?

I burned a DVD consisting of 400 photos with added music from iTunes but took nearly 2 hours.
In the book "iLife '06" Michael Rubin suggests an Apple SuperDrive or compatible third-party DVD burner for burning DVD's as the minimum system requirements for the ilife suite.
Is the 2-hour burn time typical thus the reason for using a DVD burner? I will buy the burner if it significantly reduces the burn time.
    Thanks,
    Carlos Marques

To add to what Michael said, you actually would benefit from a slower burn time ... like making your project into a Disc Image then using Disc Utility to burn at the slowest rate possible, thereby eliminating some potential problems
As stated, you are stuck with the actual encoding rate unless you speed up your puter
