Compilation albums broken up into individual albums in itunes 10

I'm looking for a solution other than creating playlists for this problem. When importing into iTunes 10, some compilation cds (cds with assorted artists) are coming up as individual albums of the same name, each containing one song from the cd. For instance, Billboard's Top Rockin' Hits: 1969 will show up 10 times in my album list but each album will have just one song from the cd in it.
Is there a way to get all the individual albums to join together as one?

iTunes is the same. There are three ways (that I know of) to do 'get info', which isn't an actual button. First highlight one or more songs, then :
1, right-click anywhere on them and select 'get info' from the menu that then appears
2, press control-I
3, File > Get Info
You can then edit details (or info) about the selected track(s)
And for future info these are user-to-user forums, Apple don't monitor them, so they won't respond here.

That's normally not a helpful information.
But, as your problem is well known ...
The way iTunes groups files (songs) into a Album depends on the entry in "Album" if "Sort by Album Name" is checked.
All songs from an Album should have the same entry in the "Album" and "Album Artist" field.
To regroup the albums choose all songs from the album at once (cmd+click) right click -> get Info -> and put the appropriate info in the two fields.
If you sort your Albums by other information e.g. composer, the songs get grouped by this feature.

  • How do I sync an album that downloaded into two albums into one album?

I downloaded the album La Musica No se Toca onto my windows computer and synched it to my ipad.
The problem is the first song by the same title appears as its own album.
Of course, I want to hear the song with the rest of the album.
I've tried using the "info" tab and marking "yes" this is part of a compilation, but to no avail.
    What am I doing wrong?

Make sure that at least one of the following is true:
the values of the Artist and Album fields for all songs are identical (standard for any album where all songs are by the same artist)
the values of the Album Artist and Album fields for all songs are identical (used for cases where one artist is responsible for the album, but some tracks may have variations to note guest performers, etc.)
the value of the Album field is identical, and the "Album is a compilation ..." flag is set for all songs (one possible approach to handing compilation albums of tracks by multiple artists)
Its also a good idea to check that the values of Sort Album and Sort Artist or Sort Album Artist are set identically.
Note that iTunes 12 seems to be more sensitive than previous releases in the way that it does grouping - for example, its possible that stray spaces or non-printing characters may disrupt grouping.  If it seems that one or more of the rules above are satisfied, but the album is still not correctly grouped, try selecting all the tracks, right-click > Get Info, and add a couple of "dummy" characters (e.g., "xx") to the end of the Artist, Album Artist (if used) and Album fields.  If this results in the songs being correctly grouped, re-edit the album information and remove the "dummy" characters - hopefully the correct grouping should be preserved.

  • Two disc album gets turned into one album on iPhone

I downloaded a two-disc album to my computer and in iTunes it showed up as two different albums, one for each disc. I corrected this issue by renaming the album name to be the same for all the songs on both discs ("The Mozart Album" as opposed to "The Mozart Album [Disc 1]" and "The Mozart Album [Disc 2]"). I also re-numbered the tracks to make sense in this new one-album solution (the tracks from the first disc came first, and then the tracks from the second disc followed, as opposed to having duplicate track numbers).
This seemed to work fine on iTunes. However, when I then synced my iPhone to my computer, to upload the new album to my iPhone, two albums appeared in the music app. Both of them had the same name ("The Mozart Album") and also all of the tracks retained their modified track numbers. So one album was called "The Mozart Album" and had tracks 7-19, and the other album was called "The Mozart Album" and had tracks 1-6. There seemed to be no reason why the two albums shouldn't just be one album with all the tracks from both discs, as I had created in iTunes. I figured it must be something to do with the properties of the actual m4a files, but I couldn't find anything in the properties that would've caused this (I was looked for something like a "Disc Number" property). There is the fact that the original titles of the files had 01 and 02 at the beginning of each track to indicate whether the track belonged to the first disc or the second disc, respectively, but I don't think that the name of the file would affect how they are sorted in the music app on the iPhone.
I am at a loss for how to force these tracks to be consolidated in one album as they should be on my iPhone and I would appreciate any help that can be offered.

I checked for differences in the fields across all of the tracks and found none that shouldn't be there. The track numbering is 1 through 6 on Disk 1 and 1 through 13 on Disk 2. They are all tagged "of 2" in the Disk number entries. See below:
I also tried un-syncing and re-syncing the album to my phone and nothing changed. See below:

  • Can iPhoto events be converted en masse into individual albums in Photos?

So far as I can tell, the new Photos software does not allow photos to be organized into events, as in iPhoto.  It seems that albums could serve the same purpose, though I may have that wrong too.  If I'm going to be making albums now out of what I used to call events, I'd like to be able to simply convert all my old events into albums of their own.  Could someone tell me how to do that?  (I see that I have a single album that includes all my old events; what I am trying to do is prevent those from being segregated away once I begin to collect albums of the pictures I take in the future.)

(I'd rather continue with iPhoto, but it'll be such a pain now to revert to OS X 10.10.2).
iPhoto works very well with MacOS X 10.10.3.  If you prefer to use iPhoto, continue to use it. Or did you uninstall it? If not, iPhoto should still be in your Applications folder. And if it is already version 9.6.1, you can simply drag it to the Dock and launch it.
If your iPhoto version is an earlier version, update to version 9.6.1, see this user Tip:
    Update as described here:
Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS... | Apple Support Communities
The main idea is to move the iPhoto app to the Trash, so Spotlight does not see it as installed, reload the AppStore, and then to try to download again from the App Store - from your Purchases tab, not from the main page, since you can neither buy iPhoto nor update it, but you can reinstall, if your AppleID is associated with it.

  • Why is iTunes splitting my albums songs up into multiple albums

i have ticked the box for varies artists and in the sorting tab i have even done cd1 and cd2 but they are still showing up as albums.

    Hi, trucker2006.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that music you are importing is not grouped together in iTunes.  Here are some steps that will help you with this.
Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together?

  • Import is Splitting Albums into Multiple Albums?

For instance, Abbey Road is broken up into two albums. Songs are not duplicated, but are separated onto two albums. I have an album called Southern Sampler 2000 and each and every song has it's own album. Ditto for my Time/Life Rock n' Roll albums.
The one thing that they have in common is that iTunes couldn't find album art for each. I do have albums for which album art is not available that were correctly put into one album.
These albums consist of CDs that I own and had previously ripped to mp3's. They are all under one folder. The structure of the folders was E:\My Music\Artist\Album Name\ and all the mp3's for the album are in the Album Name folder.
I'd be interested in knowing why I'm not getting album art for many albums. Most of which are by major artists and not obscure released. I appreciate your assistance.
    BTW this is iTunes 9.1.0.79.

It's really nice of you to offer to help.
    A. Only 5 albums out of 100 or so have this problem.
    B. They're all albums I ripped from CDs.
    C. Yes, the "Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library" box is checked.
What's even stranger about all this is that three of those five albums were fine this morning until I changed the spelling of the artist's name by way of a group change (selecting all the tracks in an album and changing a letter from lower case to upper).
Any advice you can give me would be very helpful (and enlightening). Otherwise, I may just try to delete the albums and import them again.

  • When i import a compilation cd how do i get all the tracks into one album in the music library. They are currently listed as individual tracks or albums.

When I import a compilation CD the tracks list as individual albums. How can I get them consolidated into one album?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For a compilation use Various Artists and also set Part of a compilation to Yes on the Options tab of Get Info.
For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • How can i prevent itunes from splitting individual albums into multiple albums?

How do prevent itunes from splitting albums with various artists into multiple albums?
    Thanks for your help!

It's probably better to put Various Artists into the Album Artist box rather than just "various". Make sure it's the Album Artist field though. In addition, you need to mark the album as a compilation. When setting the complete album, the Part of a compilation is on a drop-down menu on the File/Get Info/Options tab:
but if changing just one song, it's a tick-box on the Info tab:
and needless to say, the album name must be exactly the same for each track.

  • ITunes 7 has split my albums up into individual tracks in cover view!

In the two new views in itunes 7 many of my albums have been split up into individual tracks. Is there anything I can do to 'consolidate' them back?
Power Book   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hi there, I have the same problem, Albums I've imported from CD and albums I've bought through itunes now display as separate tracks in both views with album art. Also in list view if I click on an album all its tracks are now not in the correct album order but mixed up, so if I use the album view im left with 10 album covers for the same album with 1 track per cover and in list view everything is all mixed up. I wish I'd never upgraded from itunes 6 as this is now a complete mess and almost unusable with 300 albums of music "WELL DONE APPLE" as a 12 year mac user Im starting to feel like im back using windows 3.1 again

  • How do I separate songs into individual songs from an album?

I have two albums that I would like to separate the songs into individual songs. When I click get info and remove the name of the album it puts it into an individual album. I don't want it to be an individual album just an individual song.

    Hey thomasf6325,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you have recently purchased a new computer and wish to transfer your iTunes library to it. If you still have access to your previous computer (or hard drive), follow the steps in this article to transfer your library:

  • One album broken into 3 parts- HeLLLPPPPP.

This is a tricky one to explain and I have had this problem and don't know what to do.
In this example I am going to use the Billy Joel Greatest Hits volume 3. When I initially imported this into my computer I played the disc into my itunes. This disc has a total of 17 songs. If I view my album in the middle group list, I see three billy joel greatest hits albums. The first one contains songs 1-3 The second one has song 4 and is missing the cover art, and the third one has songs 5-17.
This has also happened when I have purchased albums directly on itunes.
    Am I making sense?
Any idea on how to correct this problem?
If my itunes file is corrupt is there a way to complete rebuild it so that this album is under one complete album and all art is there?

That's one part of what you need to do. The other part is that you need to tell iTunes that the album is a compilation. In the "Multiple Item Information" popup you get when you select Get Info on multiple items, the first control on the bottom is "Compilation". You want that to be "Yes" for your compilations.
That makes iTunes put the album in the Compilations folder (if you let iTunes organize your library), and treat it as an album by the special "Various Artists"
As someone else said, the "Group compilations when browsing" only affects the three-column browser. I personally don't like that. When I look at the Artist column, I want to be able to see all the artists, and to click on "Holly Cole" and get all the Holly Cole tracks, including the ones on Compilation albums. So I leave "Group compilations when browsing" unchecked. On the other hand, I don't want to see "Stockings by the Fire" 16 separate times in the "grouped with artwork" or coverflow views of the main music list. To get all the songs in a compilation grouped together in that view, click on the "Album" column heading until it reads "Album by Artist." In that mode, all compilation albums appear at the bottom of the list.

  • TS1468 itunes is a joke.  Many of my songs are either separated into single albums when it is a compilation or are outright missing without a trace.  They did this with their crap software and the solution?  I have to go thru an manually group them...sure

Now I find that my audiobook of WWZ is also nowhere to be found.  You have to practically promise your firstborn in order to get a new computer authorization key...I've just had it, and they keep making it worse. grrrrrrr.  Any idea on how to get itunes to put the albums back together into a single album again?

one last thing: I'm also getting this problem here too:

  • Merging Songs into One Album

    Hey iTuners
I have been meaning to ask this question for a while. I have some old CDs that I have tried to import and a track or two has failed importing due most likely to some damage that has happened to the original CD. I have bought the "broken" track or two from the iTunes Store to complete my album. The problem is that iTunes shows two Albums for the same artist with the exact same album name - one album has the purchased music in it and the other one has the imported music.
How can I merge these two albums together?
Thanks a bunch guys and girls.

    Welcome to AD!
1.) +When i import a CD when offline into my itunes library it does not recognise a whole album as one entity+
Select all the tracks before you import it, go to the OPTIONS tab and uncheck "part of a compilation". Then put Album Artist = whoever the artist is
The Artist field can still say "Pink feat. Somebody"
This excellent page by a regular forum poster has an in-depth explanation

    2) I don't understand your question
    3) +Sharing - i have just bought a laptop to share it with my partner.+

  • How do you merge multiple songs into one album?

When I added a downloaded album to iTunes, it created one album for each track. How do I merge all of these albums/tracks into one album?

Some albums will fracture into a million pieces if you have different artist names. How the columns are sorted can effect this.
If it is a multiple artists on one album select 'Compilation' in the options section for all of the songs on the album.
NOTE: You need to have multiple items selected to set this flag!
