Compilation artwork instead of original album art

I've found the "Get Artwork" feature on the new iTunes (7) to be pathetic. I say this because while I was trying to get artwork for a song (in this case a song from a Kylie Minogue album titled "Kylie") instead of giving me the album from 1988 it gave me artwork for a compliation cd titled somewhere along the lines of "Kylie Minogue Greatest Hits". I've spent hours perfecting my 4,000 song library to the point that every detail of every song (year, track #, artist, etc.) is 100% accurate. The most important part of these songs for me is the album artwork. And I take extreme pride in having the original album art, not just a stupid compilation made just a few years back but the artwork like it was on the original when the music first came out. this is very significant in the case of original albums that are no longer in production. long story short i'm ****** that the "Get Artwork" feature is corrupting my files with incorrect artwork. there should be a feature that let's you decide if you find acceptable compilation artwork in place of the original if apple can't find it. i'd rather have no artwork then a wrong artwork or compilation artwork. Has anyone else had this type of problem before? please respond if so, it would be nice to know i'm not the only one.

Thanks Léonie. That's definitely an improvement over 2 pictures. I normally prefer the "white mosaic" option, as it uses less ink. I've never had this issue on older versions of iTunes. Any idea why it's printing two pictures and how I could delete one of them in order to utilize the "white mosaic" option? This is what it looks like, straight from iTunes when I hit print. I learned the hard way that if I  go in and delete the artwork from every indiviudual song and then hit print, I only get 1 image. But that seems very time consuming and illogical. And thanks again.

  • 1 CD, compilation CD, 16 artists, 16 album art displays (of same picture)

I have a CD of 16 songs, a "best of" CD, and when I import it to iTunes, everything is fine save for the album artwork. When I put iTunes in album art view, I see 16 entries. Now I have seen this before on other CDs where I would just make sure the title is consistent, the artist name is consistent (in this case, I am using "Various Artists" and then putting the individual name in Album Artist"). I also checked "Compliation" in the "info" banner. I re-imported the CD using iTunes thinking that would make a difference but it hasn't.
This is the only CD in my collection I have not been able to fix. Other fixes, as I have tried above, have worked for several similar problematic listings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rob - When you selected "Compilation" - did you have all of the tracks selected? If so, when you checked the Compilation box, did you make sure it said "YES"?
The Multiple Item Information pane is a little tricksy - checking the box doesn't necessarily select anything - what it does is tell iTunes to change the information. For example, you want to delete all album art - you would do this by checking the tickbox next to the Artwork box and closing the Info pane. That will tell iTunes to update each of the Song Files and delete all applied artwork. Same thing with Compliation - just ticking the box without changing the selection may result in the opposite of what you intended.
    Hope this helps,

  • Transferring Album Art from a Mac to a Windows PC

I have iTunes on both my Mac and Windows PC- with the same library on both.
I found a great utility called Curator that found all my missing album art on the Mac, but it only works on the Mac, not the PC
So after spending a day finding all my missing album art on the Mac, I thought that simply copying the Album Art folder from my Mac to my Windows PC would enable me see all my art on my windows machine.
This did not work. I still have the same missing album covers.
I tried removing all Album Art from my PC (by selecting "Clear Downloaded Artwork" and then I selected all my music and chose "Get Album Artwork".
This put back all my original album art but none of the new artwork downloaded by Curator.
Does anyone know how to get iTunes to see all the Album Art in the Album art folder that I just copied from my Mac?

Diane is correct — the artwork you downloaded is embedded in the music files, so the only way to transfer the art is by transferring the files. Is there a reason you don't want to just copy your entire iTunes library from the Mac to the PC?
I don't know why dragging the artwork into the artwork box would result in a lower-quality image. What do you see when you click on the artwork box to open a full-size version? Is the picture 300x300 or better?

  • Local File Album Art Bug (Figured Out)

I recently posted about this bug, but I now believe I have figured out what is the cause of it happening. For summarize, there is a bug that appeared in the newest version of Spotify (1.0.5.186) that causes the album art to not show up on certain Local files. When playing a song with Album art that doesn't work, Spotify will instead show the album art of the song that was previously played still. (Clean reinstallation does not solve this) What I've found to be the cause is that certain symbols that can either be found in the tracks naming or in the main file itself for some reason causes this to happen. The two symbols I've found to mainly cause this is apostrophes and parenthesis (There might be more). Since it's not much of solution to remove all these symbols from the files' names (As it would take a long time and ruin the name of some songs), this bug still needs a fix, but I hope this can somehow contribute to making the problem easier to solve :smileyhappy:

    Hey
    Thanks for your post.
Are you still having trouble with this? If so, could you let us know the version of Spotify that you're running at current?
Also, could you let us know the version of OS you're using on your device?
We'd love to forward this onto our team here!
    Thanks.

  • Wrong Number of Songs On My iPod Shown/Incorrect Album Art

I have two things that are wrong with my iPod Touch 4G that are bugging me and I don't know what to do about them. One thing is that the number of songs I have on my iPod is incorrect. When I go into the Settings menu > General > About it currently states that I have 55 songs when I don't, I have way less than that. Does anybody why this is happening or what can be done about it? Second of all, for some of the songs I have on my iPod, the album art is incorrect. It shows a video clip from a video I have on my iPod instead of the album art it should have. I don't know why it's like that now, it wasn't like that before, it used to have the correct abum art. Can anything be done about this?

I'm having the exact same issue on my iPod Classic. Haven't used this forum before - do experts provide feedback, or do we just hope that another user can suggest a cure? I haven't reformatted my iPod yet - huge pain, as I also manually manage my music - but will do that if no other solutions present themselves.

  • Album art in playlists in ITunes 10

My computer runs Windowa Vista and I recently upgraded to ITunes 10. I was able to get all the artwork to show up in the main list panel by clicking "View" "Always Show Artwork." However, the album art doesn't show when I'm viewing my playlists. It's still there, shows up in the main view and when I click "Get info" it's in the artwork tab. Is there any way to fix this?

Yeah, that one fooled me too! Select a playlist then under 'View' choose Album List. You should now have the option to always show artwork available.

  • 1. Album art didn't transfer 2. Audiobooks

    Two issues:
    1. When I converted my music library fr Windows Media to iTunes, I've since found that most of the original album art did not transfer and is gone. Suggestions for (easily) finding and loading art for a couple of hundred albums?
    2. I've bought a number of audio books on iTunes. However, in my Library (& on my iPod), they're just part of my overall list of albums. Isn't there a way to have them load into onto my HD and also into my iPod as a discrete group, separate from my music files?
Fyi, I'm using the version of iTunes which immediately preceded ver 6.
    Thx,
    micknyc

Here is how I did it.
    1. Open iTunes and set the size of the window to half of your display
    2. Open your browser of choice, make its size the other half of your display
    3. Highlight all songs on the album in iTunes(click first song, SHIFT-Click last song)
    4. Right click in the selected area, select "Get Info", its the first option
    5. Go to your browser after the iTunes info window opens and Google image search for your album art, find a decent size thats not large in file size (I found around 500x500 pixels work well but that may be overkill).
    6. Click on the image and while holding the mouse button, drag it over to the square in the iTunes "More Info" box that opened.
    7. Click OK
    8. Sync music
Hope that helps. Its quick and easy once you do it a time or two and so far has worked very well for me.

  • ITunes 10.0.7.21 shows a white box instead of artwork for most of my albums.  Many of these are albums I purchased on itunes.  Also when I hit get album art it deleted the artwork it already had form many albums and says it cant find it.

    OS is Windows 7
I updated iTunes the other day and I decided to run "get album art" and instead of finding artwork, it made some of the artwork I already had show up as white squares, or disapear entirely.  The ones that are white squares show up under the get info, but not in itunes.  I did click in view for show al artwork, no luck.  Many of these albums I bought from iTunes.  The ones that the artwork was deleted some albums I can buy on iTunes, but already owned, and iTunes found the artwork before, but now cannot.  Some are albums that I spent many hours finding and adding the artwork myself.  I am very frustrated.  I cannot find the time to manually install artwork for thousands of songs.
My work computer is Windows 8, so I really don't want to hear windows vs OSX argument.  My company won't switch to mac because you like it better, so I just need a solution to my issue.  iTunes it has always worked better for me on my work PC than my macBook, I dont know why, but I don't take two laptops with me when I travel so I have my iTunes library on the PC that has to come with me.  This is the first time an update has screwed things up for me.

Well my first guess was wrong. The line that failed is the one that writes out the image to disk. I've not revisited the code for that script for ages, but it seems I did add in an extra test for missing files a little while later, then forgot to upload the change. I can reproduce the error message if I deliberately rename a file to confuse iTunes so that seems the most likely reason for your problem with the script. I've uploaded a new build of CreateFolderArt which should work better.
See FindTracks for a tool to repair broken links. You should probably get that issue fixed first.
I know what SPSS stands for but that is all I know about it.

  • When I downloaded iOS 7 my iTunes album art automatically changed for me. Loved it. When I downloaded iOS 8 update it went back to the original artwork. How do I get it back like iOS 7??

Okay, I'm going to try and make as much sense as I possibly can without confusing people. I hope someone can help! So when I downloaded the iOS 7 update one 'major' change I noticed was that my album art in iTunes had automatically changed for me. It was really cool, more up-to-date, and overall enjoyed how it looked. Made it look a lot neater than my own album art I had put on there. Now, when I downloaded the new iOS 8 update I notice that all my album art when back to its original picture which I had put on there. How do I get it back to where it was when I downloaded the iOS 7 Update?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I know this isn't the most "dying for help" question, but I'm curious anyways to why it has changed. Thanks!

  • Un=-associating original album artwork so "real" artwork can be added

I imported a few songs from a couple of the NOW cds, which are compilation albums. After I imported them, I went back and changed the album name to the "real" album name, removed the compilation setting, and removed the track information. Then I cleared the downloaded artwork. Next, I said get album artwork, and it brought back the NOW album, instead of the "real" album. How can I use the get album artwork feature to get the "real" album instead of the NOW album artwork? Is there some setting/flag that is hidden that remembers what the original album was, so the artwork that is downloaded is for the original album? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I have figured out a way to accomplish what I want. If anyone has an easier way, I would like to know about it. I was importing all my songs as .mp3 files, and I think this was part of the problem. So I tried importing using different formats, and it seems as if using .wav worked. Here are the steps I used:
    1. After inserting the CD, right click on the CD name in Library panel and erase the artist, uncheck compilation (if checked), and change the name of the album (I usually added "Test" to it).
    2. Import the songs you want from the album. You should get a message at the end of the import saying artwork could not be found (if set to automatically get it).
    3. Go to the songs just imported, and edit them individually with the correct song info. (I usually search for the album name I just used, and then all of the files are in front of me)
    4. Right-click on the file(s) and select "Get Album Artwork", and the correct artwork (if available) will be added.
    5. Then go into Edit --> Preferences and change the settings for importing to whatever types of files you want (for me, it was .mp3).
    6. Select all of the files, right click, and select "Convert selection to MP3" (or whatever file type you selected).
    7. Delete the .wav files.
Unfortunately, a little convoluted, but at least it gets the job done. Like I said earlier, if anyone has any other ways of accomplishing what I am trying to do, I would love to hear about them.

  • How can I load this album art? Artwork tab does not display.

If I place the cursor on one of the items in a compilation and right-click, then select (click) "Get Info", I get this message: "Are you sure you want to edit info for multiple items?" If I click "Yes," nothing happens (I can't add the cover), and there is no "Artwork" tab at the top. The "Summary" page says "There is no album artwork" (greyed out).
If I place the cursor on one of the items in this compilation and right-click, then select (click) "Get album artwork", I get a message saying Apple can't find it. But I placed the artwork for this particular album in my "Album Artwork" folder.
Any suggestions on how I can get the album art to display for this compilation? Thanks!

Are these wav files by any chance? These don't support a tagging system. iTunes can associate iTMS art with wav files when it's available/recognised, but as there is no tag the information cannot be embedded in the files so iTunes doesn't support adding art to wav files.

  • Sorting songs in Compilations and the original albums without multiples

I have a number of compilations as well as many, many albums in my Library. Is there a way to easily sort them in to, possibly, multiple compilations and let them remain in their original album as well?
It's hard to believe that I'm the first one to ask this but I can't find it in a search. Thanks a bunch.

If I understand correctly, you have two copies of Song A; in the original album and in a compilation album (like a movie soundtrack). You want to have one copy of the song connected to both albums.
I would make one of the albums, probably the compilation, a playlist. Then you could delete the duplicates of the song. Instead of playing the compilation album directly from your music folder you'd have to use the playlist.
Its not exactly what you want to do, but I don't think its possible to do what you would like to do. I'd love to be proved wrong though.

  • How to show one album art image for a compilation album in cover flow view?

I just finished getting album art for my entire music collection. Now I go to the Cover Flow view or the Album view and individual songs in compilation albums each have their own album art instead of being grouped together under the same album art. For instance I have a "Buddha Bar" Album with various artists. Instead of having one image for the album, each artist has his or her own image (all the same Buddha Bar album art). So a compilation CD with various artists ends up having 15 images instead of one image in the Album art or Cover Flow view which makes it harder to look through my albums. Does anybody know if it is possible to change this?
    Imac PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

iTunes doesn't have the ability to do what you want, i.e. to define multiple separated values in a field and then have the item show up when looking at a selection based on each of those values. "Bob Dylan", "The Band" and "Bob Dylan & The Band" are three distinct values that can't be linked together. Sort values can change where in a list things are displayed but shouldn't be used to attempt to merge different values as results are undefined and unpredictable.
