Compilations in iTunes 10.1?

I have a lot of CDs with multiple artists in my library, and while I enjoy them displaying as a single CD with a shared coverart in my library and on my iTouch....I am significantly less fond of the newest update which hides the song artists under the broad name of "Compilation" when displaying in the Column Browser...I have entire genres which list has having 0 artists ....and nearly 1,000 songs.
Any suggestions on how to make the Artist of a song display in the Column Browser even if it's marked as a compilation?

iTunes menu View, uncheck Group compilations.

i am trying to make a compilation in itunes as a christmas present... i was hoping to create a whole new "album". but every time i try it either 1. puts the songs in alphabetical order 2. changes the original album file. Is there a program out there i can use to create a digital compilation? I have a hankering to make a mixed tape - but somehow do it in the digital age.

Gah,
The best way to do that is to make a copy of each song. Leave the tags in the originals alone, but in the mixtape copies change the Album name (something like "Gah's Christmas MIxtape") and the Album Artist ("Compiled by Gah").

Syncing up existing PC music compilations to itunes music library

Sorry, I mis-stated what I wanted to ask in my first posting. It sounded confusing after I read it. I have corrected it below.
I just bought my I-pod and I wanted to put my current compilations from my music library on to Itunes. Unfortunately, when I uploaded my music library from my computer, Itunes separated all my songs from my already created compilations or playlists. My question is this:
Do I now need to go through my Itunes library and individually drag and drop the songs I want to a new playlist in order to re-create my original compilations on Itunes OR is there a way for Itunes to grab my original compliations and upload them to my Itunes library just as they appeared and functioned from my computer music library?

Thanks for the response. I set up the compilations into folders in my music library so i could burn these favorites onto a cd when I wanted. Other folders were set up of cd's I copied from original cd's to my computer. For instance, if I were to look for an original album, I couldn't find it, but I would find all the songs individually listed through out my itunes library.
Let's say I created a folder called "Hard Rock" in my PC music library, and in that folder I had 5 separate compilations of my favorite hard rock songs with separate names (titles I made up for each compilation). At any time I could burn those compilations to their own CD's with no problem via the media player. My question now is, can those same (existing) compilations or folders be recognized by itunes as a favorite group of songs or do I have to individually re-create them again in the itunes music library as a new playlist?
As it stands now, my whole pc music library is in the itunes library, but now organized as it appears in my PC library. Does this make sense? I guess I am looking to make my itunes library appear almost identical to my PC library. I am not 100% computer savvy, so I am just trying to figure all of this ipod stuff out.
One other question and this is coming from a rookie on all this stuff...what does clicking and un-clicking the boxes to the left of the songs do??

Group compilations in itunes 10

hello everybody.. i have just spent 3 hours reading post forums but nobody could really answear clearly about grouping compilations in itunes 10.
I have my library in an external disk, i have many compilations and now they are divided as artist.. how can I group all in the ORIGINAL compilation list and have them in order like out Itune or the original album pleaseeee

Same problem here. And I thought I'd I figure out how to deal with it by making the Album Artist box blank and checking the Compilation box. I did that for all my multi-artist compilations and the tracks were grouped by album per the CD and listed as "Various Artists". That will allow you to play the album old school.
But, I lost the ability to list the track artist seperately, i.e., I have a compilation CD called EZ Riding' with the classic Golden Earring tune Radar Love. It and all the other tracks ripped into seperate iTunes tracks, not compiled, and there wasn't a single album with all the tracks. But, Golden Earring was a listed artist and if I listed Albums by Artist or looked in the Artist scroll bar, I could see Golden Earring.
After I blanked the Album Artist line for that track and selected Compilation, the Golden Earring track dissappeared from the Album by Artist list and the Artist scroll list, although if I search for them, I get the track id'd.
But I started fooling around with that one track by un-checking the Compilation box and re-inserting the Album Artist and instead of toggling, iTunes dis-aggregated the Album again and it now won't re-aggregate no matter what I do with the Album Artist and Compilation.
Bizarre.

XCode 5.0.2 compiling causes ITunes to skip....

XCode 5.0.2, compiling a C++ game....every compile causes ITunes to skip playing the current song.

Try this out I had the same issue then I found out all you have to do is to set the default view to List before opening any previous or new project and it worked for me hope it works for you too, credit goes to this user below who found the solution.

I was able to resolve by workaround:
1. Closed all open applications
2. relaunch Finder
3. run sudo find / -name ".DS_Store" -exec rm {} \;
4. this removes all .DS_Store old files on the computer
5. launch finder and set default view to "LIST VIEW" as shown here:http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/ss/Setting-Finder-Views-For-Folders-And-Su b-Folders_2.htm
5. rerun the offending application and file chooser works

Depuis le passage à iTunes 11,j'ai un probleme avec les compilations.
Les nouvelles compilations n'apparaissent pas comme tels.Elle sont présentées dans iTunes 11,comme dans mon iPhone 5 sous iOS 6.0.1 comme une suite de singles.
Alors que les compilations importé avant le passage à iTunes 11 apparaissent comme il faut.

I'm not sure I understand what you're driving at... Perhaps a screenshot would help.
As far as I'm aware the best way of marking compilation albums is to set Part of a Compilation to Yes and set a common Album Artist such as Various Artists. Personally I prefer to keep my Artists listing clean by listing only Album Artists but you should be able to turn off the View > Column Browser > Use Album Artists option to display all artists, even those who only appear on compilations. iOS devices have a similar option. See Grouping tracks into albums for some background.
You can use the iTunes Feedback or Bug Reporter channels to raise your concerns. Apple can only fix a problem that they know about, and then only if they agree it is a problem and decide it is worth the effort. The more specifically you can describe the actual behaviour verses the expected behavior the more likely it is that something might get done, however this can be a slow process. Often you are better off reaching a full understanding of how things work, and then tweaking your tags/workflow to make the best of things as they are.

TS1424 Albums Vs Compilations in itunes

Certain albums that i have imported into itunes from my CD collection have been included in Compilations instead of Albums. This mean that these albums do no appear when i search by Artist. Is it possible to re-categorise these as Albums?

Highlight the complete album and select File/Get Info/Options and set Part of a Compliation to "No". Note that even if this field says "No", you should set it to "Yes" and then back to "No". This ensure that all the tracks are set to "No".
Then simply Sync your iiPod with your iTunes Library for that change to be on the iPod too.
Uusually, the "certain albums" that you refer to are greatest hits abums from one artist, which for some strange reason, the music business refers to as compilations. I don't and never have done in many, many years of collecting music. iTunes doesn't either.

my compilations are all listed in the compilations category (good!) AND separately listed under every single artist which in on them (BAD!).
iTunes 6 has put all my albums marked as compilation only into the compilations category.
is this a bug?

Hello,
You can do a "Get Info" on the track with the proper artwork (the artwork you want) and then navigate to the Artwork tab. Click once on the album art. Then, press both  and C simultaneously to copy the picture to the clipboard.
If the album artwork is not available in iTunes anymore, go and find the artwork somewhere. Then copy the image to the clipboard either with  C or by right-clicking and selecting "Copy" or "Copy Image".
Now, with the appropriate image copied to the clipboard, go back into iTunes, and select all the songs that should have that album art (you can select them all at once). Now, click once time in the artwork field (to select it). Then press  and V simultaneously to paste the artwork into the artwork field.
Now, you can close the Get Info box. And the new album art should be effective for all the albums you had selected.

Importing Compilations into iTunes

Have compilation which I am trying to upload into iTunes... As it is numerous different artists, all with there own album cover and details I am worried that iTunes will create hundreds of different album covers. How can I import these files and have theme come under 3 of 4 similar album covers; i.e. Rolling Stone Top 500 Vol I, Rolling Stone Top 500 Vol II etc.
I know there is a compilation button to tick in Get Info but this has never worked in the past and I end up with a single track per album cover which clogs up my iTunes window.

Group as Compilation Problem (iTunes 6)

I have several compilation cd's ripped to iTunes, but when I view the Library, they're all sorted by Artist name. I have the "group compilation" box checked in Preferences, but they're still not showing up together. They're in the "compilations" folder when I browse using finder, but STILL not showing up together when I browse my iTunes library.
Can someone help me?

This is easy. At the top of the library you see "'Name", "Time", "Artist", "Album", etc.. Click on "Album" to organize by album title in alphabetical order. Click on "Name" to organize by song name. Click again to reverse the order. Right click on any header to open a drop down menu of other columns to add.

When a cd is not recognised by gracenote data base, how do you ensure that it dowloads all together in recently added. I am trying to download a nn 8 disk compilation and itunes is putting all track 1/track2 etc together

i am trying to download a compilation of 8 cds which are not recognised by gracenote database. how do I ensure that the disks download seorately. My last try had all track 1/2/3 together rather than 1 - X in each cd

Unable to find a specific compilation on Itunes!! arghhh!!

I'm trying to find 'Ultimate NRG 4' however every time I search I only get 'Ultimate NRG megamix'

You can also try one of the online music download stores that specialize in Dance/DJ music, such as junodownload.com or beatport.com They sell songs in MP3 format, which can be easily added to your iTunes library.

HT1660 COMPILE MULTIPLE ITUNES LIBRARY?

I just got a new computer and transfered itune libraries from 2 other computers, this has caused my current library which i just started on the new computer to disappear and the other itunes libraries are located within multiple itune folders within previous itune library folders! WHAT! how can i get all my music into one library or folder? i've tried moving and the message i recieve is file or folder is in the same location. help/ 411!

Have downloaded for example: Queen – Bohemium Rhapsody from a compilation album as well as a few complete Queen Album CDs into the iTunes library and then put them into playlists,
When I go onto my phone and select Queen on the MUSIC app using Songs tab at the bottom of the screen it will display all Queen songs and their resective Alum pics, that is all those not in a complilation album, .
If I know the song title I can select the songs tab and find the song that way,
I’ve tried fiddling with the settings in the iTunes app by going to ‘get info’ tab and trying to sort the problem out that way but am not having much luck.What I want the phone to do is show, for example all Queens songs including those in compilation albums. Can this be done, would be grateful for any ideas on how it can be done, that is if ic can be done, any ideas

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.
