Compile entity bean

Hi all,
I have tried to compile a sample entity ejb code. I use "javac *.java" command and got "package javax.ejb does not exist ..." error message. What should I do to compile the sample correctly?
Thank you.
New to Java

Just in case the original poster or anyone else is still interested:
I am a relative beginner and I had the same problem. I understand the suggestion to go back to the basics, but I find that I learn better if I can do something hands-on and useful, rather than toy examples.
I had the same problem. I had assigned the enterprise edition's bin directory to the classpath, but it was listed after the standard edition. Switching the order (i.e. listing the standard edition's bin directory AFTER the enterprise edition) in the classpath caused things to work.
I had thought the order unimportant, as if it didn't find the javax stuff in one bin, it'd go on to the other. Not so, I guess. If anyone would clue me in as to why, it'd be much appreciated.

  • WLS 5.1.0 SP 12 ejbc throws NoSuchMethodError on entity beans

    Greetings all,
    Due to a trashed hard disk, I'm in the middle of getting WebLogic
    server reinstalled. Because of some problems with Oracle 8.1.6 and
    WLS 5.1.0 SP9, I've been trying to get SP12 to run, with little luck.
    I suspect an installation / configuration problem, but I don't know
    what it is.
    The symptom is that I can't compile entity beans - ejbc throws a
    NoSuchMethodError exception. For the sake of simplicity, and to prove
    to myself it wasn't our code, I tried building one of the examples,
    and it has the same problem. Does anyone see anything I've done
    wrong in the configuration?

    Do all the examples fail to build, or just the EJB CMP examples? I ask
    because in 5.1, there's a separate WebLogic_CMP_RDBMS.jar that's part of
    the install process, but it's only used for CMP. If the other examples
    work, then that's likely to be your problem.

    Hi,
    Can a good folk help me.
    I am mapping an entity bean to an oracle table for the purpose of logging . I do not need a primary key contraint on this table. How do I specify in my entity bean file descriptor not to use any field for primary key ...

    you will have to create a sequence and a trigger
    CREATE SEQUENCE <SEQUENCE NAME>
    INCREMENT BY  1
    START WITH  1
    NOCACHE
    /this sequence will guarantee that each requested number is unique
    the trigger will select from this sequence and insert the obtained value in the new record
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER <TRIGGER NAME>
    BEFORE INSERT ON <TABLE NAME>
    REFERENCING NEW AS NEW OLD AS OLD
    FOR EACH ROW
        BEGIN
            select
                <SEQUENCE NAME>.nextval
            into
                :NEW.<COLUMN NAME>
            from
                dual;
        END;
    [/CODE]
    this will always take the value from the sequence, even if you already provided a value yourself
    (otherwise you will first have to test if :NEW.<column name> is null, but I wouldn't do this for a key column.
    if you need the generated key back for further processing (inserting it into a child table for example), you can use the returning clause on the insert statement
    see the oracle documentation for more information about sequences, triggers and the returning clause
    greetings

    I am new to Oracle and need to know how to create a table that uses an automatic incrementation on a primay key for it's default. I need the uniqueness automatically managed by the DBMS.. This activity is know as setting the Column (primary key with identity) in Ms-SQL..
    Your help would be appreciated greatly....
    Thanks....

  • Error while using sybase trigger with the CMP entity bean,ejb version 2.1

    Hi All,
    I am using ejb version 2.1 and using entity bean (Transaction required) ,i am trying to update data in sybase(ver 12.3) database table
    I am using session bean(Transaction required) to update the multiple entity beans in a while loop.It is working fine .But when i am trying to run it with the trigger which updates multiple tables in different sybase databases on update of each entity.Then it throws NoSuchEntityException and it rollback the whole transaction.
    My trigger has only few simple update statements and the trigger runs fine without my CMP entity bean.is the CMP does not support the update triggers in sybase or is it the problem with the transaction.
    Please help
    Thanks
    Anshu

    If you can have a look at a cmp example in the samples that ship with the server. My guess is that the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file is missing the <persistence-use> element which for 810 would look like:
    <persistence>
    <persistence-use>
    <type-identifier>WebLogic_CMP_RDBMS</type-identifier>
    <type-version>7.0</type-version>
    <type-storage>META-INF/weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml</type-storage>
    </persistence-use>
    </persistence>
    I seem to recall that the elements might be slightly different in structure for the wls700 version of the DTD, so please check that (I cannot, I'm at home and don't have everything here).
    Give that a try and see if it doesn't solve your compilation failure.
    Also, the compilation should not be throwing a null pointer exception in a case like that, I consider that to be a bug.

    Hi,
    The error was coming because of the table structure. All the columns were composite keys. I alter the structured by removing composite keys and added a new column as primary key. Now it is getting deployed successfully.
    Can anybody comment on such a behaviour of OC4J?

    If you can have a look at a cmp example in the samples that ship with the server. My guess is that the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file is missing the <persistence-use> element which for 810 would look like:
    <persistence>
    <persistence-use>
    <type-identifier>WebLogic_CMP_RDBMS</type-identifier>
    <type-version>7.0</type-version>
    <type-storage>META-INF/weblogic-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml</type-storage>
    </persistence-use>
    </persistence>

  • CMP Entity Bean with ejb-ql finder methods and INFORMIX database

    Hi,
    I have some CMP Entity Beans with finder methods defined in ejb-ql. In my ejb-jar, within <entity> definitions I have something like:
        <entity>
          <abstract-schema-name>BeanName</abstract-schema-name>
          <cmp-field><field-name>fieldOne</field-name></cmp-field>
          <cmp-field><field-name>fieldTwo</field-name></cmp-field>
          <query>
            <query-method>
              <method-name>findAll</method-name>
              <method-params></method-params>
            </query-method>
            <ejb-ql>SELECT OBJECT(o) FROM BeanName o</ejb-ql>
          </query>
        <entity>
    And in persistent.xml:
    <db-properties>
         <data-source-name>datasource_name</data-source-name>
    </db-properties>
    <entity-bean>
         <ejb-name>BeanName</ejb-name>
         <table-name>table_name</table-name>
         <field-map key-type="NoKey">
         <field-name>fieldOne</field-name>
         <column><column-name>column_one</column-name></column>
          </field-map>
         <field-map key-type="NoKey">
         <field-name>fieldTwo</field-name>
         <column><column-name>column_two</column-name></column>
          </field-map>
          <finder-descriptor>
              <method-name>findAll</method-name>
              <method-params/>
         </finder-descriptor>
    Once deployed, on server side, I can found a java source file (with corresponding compiled class file) in path:
    j2ee/cluster/server0/apps/companyName/MyEARApp/EJBContainer/temp/temp38837373733/route/to/package/
    with names:
    BeanName0_0pm.java
    BeanName0_0PM.class
    and the generated java file contains this code:
      public java.util.Enumeration ejbFindAll() throws javax.ejb.FinderException, javax.ejb.EJBException  {
        TransactionContext tc = pm.getTransactionContext();
        Connection conn = null;
        PreparedStatement pSt = null;
        ResultSet ejb_rs = null;
        int status = javax.transaction.xa.XAResource.TMSUCCESS;
        try {
          conn = pm.getConnectionForFindMethod();
          pSt = conn.prepareStatement("SELECT \"O\".\"COLUMN_ONE\",\"O\".\"COLUMN_TWO\", FROM \"TABLE_NAME\" \"O\"");
          ejb_rs = pSt.executeQuery();
    I'm trying to call this method but it throws a SQLException when preparing the statement.
    It seems that Informix does not like this SQL syntax because of upper case names, doble quotes on table alias, or something else.
    When editing persistent.xml in netweaver, I can define the element <datasource-vendor> as ORACLE, SAPDB, MS_SQL_SERVER, DB2_UDB_AS400 or DB2_UDB_OS390 but INFORMIX is not an accepted value.
    Is there any way to define how this SQL query is build?
    Thanks in advance.

    The return type of the finder method defined in the remote home interface is either the entity bean's remote interface or a collection of objects implementing the entity bean's remote interface. The return type of the finder method defined in the local home interface is either the entity bean's local interface or a collection of objects implementing the entity bean's local interface

    The error I get is:
    Compiling Stubs...done
    Generating Jar File...done
    Loading EJB Jar file and Comm Stubs Jar file...done
    Generating EJBHome and EJBObject on the server...
    An exception occurred during code generation: null
    I don't understand what am I doing wrong...
    Any help will be highly appreciated.
    [Could anyone point me out sample code for CMP entity beans with composite primary key?]
    Apologies for the length of the POST, just trying to pass as much info as I can...

    Hi Nikos,
    I obviously don't know what your entire situation is, but you may not
    be aware that Oracle's DBMS embedded EJB container does not work well,
    and as a result, Oracle decided to replace it with an external EJB
    container which is part of a product called "Oracle Containers for
    J2EE" (otherwise known as "OC4J"). The "other" forum (the J2EE forum)
    deals mainly with OC4J.
    As far as I know, Oracle recommends doing your EJB related work with
    OC4J and not with the embedded EJB container.
    Good Luck,
    Avi. That's correct
    Java code, implementing data bound logic, can still run in the database as Java stored procedures/packages/functions/triggers
    while J2EE componentsdeployed in middle-tier implement business logic. Java in database enable the database to be an active participant to your deployment platform
    in 9iDB R2 you will even be able to call-out Web client (using HTTP Client), EJB client (using oc4jclient.jar) or Web Service client
    (using SOAP libraries)

    What am I missing? Note that on 9.0.4.2 and its previous versions the deployment was successful.

    We use EJB2.0 and as per the specifications entity class and getters/setters should be abstract. This is what we have. I have verified the dtd used in ejb-jars and it has references to the correct version. Here is an example <!DOCTYPE ejb-jar PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Enterprise JavaBeans 2.0//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/ejb-jar_2_0.dtd">. Also the tag <cmp-version>2.x</cmp-version> is included for all the entity beans.
    Now I am just curious to know if anyone has tried deploying Entity Beans 2.0 on a 10.1.3? and if so was the deployment successful?
