IOS 4 Pdf manual - too big for iBooks!!!
Thought the putting the manual in iBooks would be a good way to test drive new app. Well.... first you have to email the pdf (14 meg) and then it is too big to move into iBooks. Apple you can do better than this!!
OK. Now I see the details of your issue with iBooks.
Save the PDF file on your desktop or someplace where you can easily find it.
Open iTunes and connect the iPod Touch to it.
Now simply either drag it directly to the books on your iPod Touch or drag it to books on your iTunes and sync. This should put the document in on your iBooks app shelf. Be sure to click on the PDF tab in your app to display the PDF books.

AI and PDF files too big!
illustrator CS6 and CC keeps on saving huge file formats.PDF 72 dpi no compat. pdf ends up with 33 MB when the AI file is only 8MB ( that is already too big) I have tried everything. My PC is with no doubt big enough to run all adobe programs with no conflict. This issue started a few weeks ago and I can find any answer to it.
I need to present pattern files and outlines of underwear to the client in a PDF. I have 9 designs in one file.AI file is 8 MB while the PDF even in the lowest rez is 33MB....why??
I would be so happy to hear from anyone that have found a solution to this problem. The factories or clients do not take any files over 10MB
heeeeelp!
AnjaI am running win 7 home premium. PC have 8GB memory and 64bit op sys.

Interactive Links in exported PDF are too big (links overlap in TOC)
When we export our InDesign document to PDF, hyperlinks are automatically generated for each item in the Table of Contents (TOC). This is great, but the problem is the hyperlink area of each line overlaps with the hyperlink area of the next line. This can create confusion in Adobe Reader and Apple Preview when a user clicks near the top or bottom of a TOC heading on a line, thinking it will take them to that heading in the document but instead they are taken to the preceeding or following heading in the document.
We currently have to open the PDF up in Adobe Acrobat and manually go through and reduce the height of every hyperlink in our document, particularly in the TOC (using the Link Tool). Is there anyway in InDesign to change the height of hyperlinks that are exported? If not, is there a way to bulk update the height of all the hyperlinks using Acrobat rather than doing each one individually/manually (maybe some sort of script)?
Many thanks : ) LeeUncheck the reflow option and apply the updates to Acrobat Pro 9.0. Windows 7 was released after Acrobat 9 and the only way to make sure you have a program that will work properly with Windows 7 is to apply the updates. There have also been some significant security patches included with the updates.

Pagesfile size (saved as PDF way) too big!
I am sure that a PDF shoukd take up lesss room that do mine.
Tw A4 pages with mostly text and a few small photos. Gives me a PDF that is nearly 3MB. This is all great if you are on broadband ... but dial-up clients quickly tune out.
Have noted that ther PDFs of comparable composition take up lots less room!
Is there any way of producing smaller PDF files? There are a couple of ways to get a smaller PDF.
First, from within Pages, choose Good or Better from the Image Quality drop-down menu when exporting to PDF.
If you're using Tiger, you can also try the "Reduce File Size" filter in ColorSync in the Print dialog. Click "Copies & Pages" > ColorSync & then Reduce File Size under Filters, Then click the PDF button in the lower left of the Print dialog. This option isn't in the print dialog in Leopard. -
Making a interactive PDF from indesign, but it's too big. Tried to reduce file size in Acrobat, but it does not reduce file size.
Use the Optimize PDF command in Acrobat, it gives you more control. I think it's under the Advanced menu in Acrobat 9 Pro and File > Save As > Optimized PDF in Acrobat X Pro.
You might try playing around with different settings. You can also click the Audit Space button at the upper right to see if its from images or other things causing the file size problem.
Unfortunately, InDesign doesn't write interactivity in a very optimized way. You get better results with buttons, for example, creating them in Acrobat Pro and using the Duplicate command to duplicate them across multiple pages. -
Pdf and preview printing too big
This problem just began: When I click to print a pdf in either Adobe Reader or Preview, it prints off the page, way too big. The image is fine in the preview window. It happens identically on two printers. Gmail and google and Word docs print fine.
I have clicked FIT and scale in the Reader program, but the result is the same. It's obvioulsy a setting, but the answer is not obvious.looking again, it prints badly in Chrome, Safari, pdf, preview but NOT Firefox.
And, I was wrong about Gmail. it prints wrong from gmail, too. -
I need to compress an InDesign file to web-quality pdf but file size is still too big. Help!
Hi Bill,
It sounds like your document has a lot of pages and/or images in it.
Instead of using the normal InDesign > Export command to create a PDF, you may be able to reduce the file size by printing to a PostScript file, then distilling it to PDF using Acrobat Distiller. -
Keynote - files too big to email/share, looking for PDF resolution solution
Has anyone worked out how to change a keynote presentation PDF resolution when preparing for sharing? The file I get is too big to email (6 photos gave me 55mb) as it appears to retain the input resolution of the embedded photos?
If using Acrobat 9 Go To Document>Reduce File size.
If Using Acrobat X or XI to tot he tools sidebar and use Optimize for Web Distribution.
If you do not want to fool witht he pdf in any way then download Adobe Send Now app and use their free service or subscribe for a year for a whopping $29.95.
The free version allows you to upload files upt to 500MB there may be limitis to how many files you can upload it sends an e-mail to the parties you want to download the files and they simply follow the link and it downloads.
The paid version allows you to upload files as large as 2 GB and gives you 20GB of storage. I immediately myself purchased the paid version.
If you hppen to upgrade to the cloud then you get the paid version free. -
I have a brand new 2GB computer and have been making a pdf using Acrobat 8 Standard. Its 235MB and now its too big for me to do anything with it! It won't even load up anymore because its so huge. Any suggestions on anything I can do?
Oh, have you been editing and saving, and editing and saving? Just do
a SAVE AS for starters. Of course, it must load up. What happens when
you try?

My pdf file is too big to convert!
I just subscribed to Adobe Export PDF. I paid $102 to Office Max to scan a 500-page manuscript into a .pdf. Adobe Export PDF tells me my file, which is 199,600 KB, is too big. It cannot exceed 100MG. I don't know how to reduce the size of my .pdf file. What do I do?!
Hi sherryesta,
You have a couple of options here.
You could ask OfficeMax to split the PDF they provided you into 3 or 4 parts. Given that you've already paid them a large sum of money for the file in the first place, taking a few minutes to divide the file for you in Adobe Acrobat should be a simple task for them to accomplish for you.
Alternatively, you could download the trial of Adobe Acrobat XI to convert the file (or divide it). The trial can be found here: http://www.adobe.com/go/tryacrobatpro/

I created a magazine using a template including bleeds. When I exported to make a PDF, it cut off part of the document when uploading for printing. When I incude bleeds, it makes the document too big for printing. I need help

It is a problem with a secondary provider, "mag cloud" .
Right, so to advise you we'd need to know the particulars of MagCloud's spec for your project; format, trim size, bleed, etc.
It's doubtful that anything happened "when uploading for printing," so long as you were uploading a PDF, as opposed to the native InDesign file. Did the PDF look right to you before uploading? -
pdf file is too big (7MB). Need a pdf file with max size 4MB. How to minimize the size of a pdf file?
The other alternative is the Save As Other>Reduce File Size. The PDF Optimizer gives you more control. You might also use the audit feature in the PDF Optimizer to see where the size problem is coming from. You might find that in the WORD file you can select and image and then go to the FORMAT (pictures) menu and select compress for all of the bitmaps in the file. That will typically use 150 dpi by default that is adequate for most needs.

Hi i need to email mine but it's too big. 5 pages. How can i make it smaller? I tried making it a zip but it's still too big.
Hi, Anne.
I'm sorry that your files are too large.
I see that you have a paid subscription to the CreatePDF service. Can you describe your workflow in a little more detail?
It sounds like you may be converting a 5-page file to PDF using the CreatePDF service, yet your file is still too large. Is that correct? What file type are you converting to PDF? What's the size of the source file vs. the resulting PDF?
Most file types automatically are compressed when you convert them to PDF. For example, PowerPoint files are typically compressed by 50% to 80%. The CreatePDF service cannot do any additional compression. However, Adobe Acrobat has advanced features to further reduce your PDF file size (by downsampling images, unembedding fonts, etc). A trial is of Adobe Acrobat is here.
If you can provide a little more context, we may have some additional ideas.

Note that pdf file is too big 1.7MB, how I may reduce it ?
I did a brochure SummerTheater2009-3web.ai and convert to
SummerTheater2009-3web.pdf
located at
http://www.ancientgreekdramainstitute-cyprus.org/images/SummerTheater2009-3web.pdf
can you tell me how much this cost[50-100 prints will be printed] ?
Also note that is too big 1.7MB, how I may reduce it for web ?What to choose for "Compatibility" in the SaveAsPDF Dialog box ?
Once you have found a printer (see below) ask them. I suggest selecting Press Quality, and turning off Preserve Illustrator Editing Capability
How much cost the design about(out printing cost) ?
Open a damn yellow pages to P and start calling printers.
How in Illustrator I see an objects Dimensions/coordinates, like a Rectancle ?
May change where (0,0) in coordinate system is, change center, or this is fixed ?
What?
If you have an unrelated question, make a new post in the forum. Try to clearly state the problem: What do you want to do? What did you do? What did you expect? What did you get instead? Take a screen capture to show what you are talking about and add it to your post using the camera icon.
BTW: In response to your initial question, attached (and probably queued until Rapture) is the same PDF saved as press quality without PDF compatibility. 420 kB.
Your document Color Mode (File menu) is RGB, but for a printed document that should be CMYK. After converting to CMYK make sure your blacks (the text and frames) are not rich black (Left) but Process Black (Right).
