Compiling DBXML 6.0.17 with JDK 8

Hi,
I'm working on compiling dbxml-6.0.17 on solaris 11.2 using jdk 1.8.0.  I'm using:
buildall.sh --enable-java
getting error:
Note: Some input files use unchecked or unsafe operations.
Note: Recompile with -Xlint:unchecked for details.

Has anyone been able to compile for jdk 8?  Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to debug/reduce-stop-world-GC times.Put it on a box that you can install whatever you want.
Set the max heap size to be a low value. Start at 500 meg and move it down. You want to get to the point where the app works but where it starts thrashing very soon (with little load.)
Then debug/profile away using appropriate tools.
Once you have an idea, up the max heap on that box, increase the load, and validate the idea.

  • Compiling dbxml with berkeley 5.1.19

    I'm trying to compile dbxml using 5.1.19 source. E.g.:

    +5.1, which is not a supported version of Berkeley DB. The version must be at least 4.3+
    First error is obvious: it seems dbxml cannot be compiled with somethin newer than 4.8. Is this right?
    The second error is in the following line:
    +checking if --with-berkeleydb=DIR option specified... /home/mariano/Code/compiled/dbxml+
    it tells me the berkeleydb option is set to */home/mariano/Code/compiled/dbxml* when I specified with-berkeleydb=/home/mariano/Code/srcs/db-5.1.19.
    Can someone offer a tip on the problem?
    TIA

    Hi,
    A generated configure script for DB XML 2.5.16 checks only for versions of BDB starting from 4.3 to 4.8, hence the misleading error message.
    if test "$db_version" != "4.3" && test "$db_version" != "4.4" && test "$db_version" != "4.5" && test "$db_version" != "4.6" && test "$db_version" != "4.7" && test "$db_version" != "4.8"; then
                    { { echo "$as_me:$LINENO: error: $with_berkeleydb is version $db_version, which is not a supported version of Berkeley DB. The version must be at least 4.3" >&5
    echo "$as_me: error: $with_berkeleydb is version $db_version, which is not a supported version of Berkeley DB. The version must be at least 4.3" >&2;}
       { (exit 1); exit 1; }; }
    fiI'm not sure whether I understood your second problem, but you can try to fix the first one by using BDB 4.8 or even actually omit the --with-berkeleydb parameter and then the distributed with DB XML version of BDB will be used, and then see whether the second problem is eliminated.
    Any reasons that you opt to use BDB 5.1?

  • Java 6u24 won't launch signed JNLP app with classes compiled with JDK 1.4.2

    Anyone else having a problem launching a JNLP app compiled with Java 1.4 using Java 6u24 on the client? Anyone have a Java 1.4-compiled app that does launch with Java 6u24?
    I am, and I have isolated the problem to some change in 6u24's java web start launching logic. The splash screen appears and then javaws just quits with no error. Trace shows it is not getting past checking of the first .jar. My JNLP app, fully signed with CA-issued certificate, when compiled with Java 1.4.2 will not launch on JRE 6u24 (or 6u25-b03). The same exact app launches perfectly fine when it is compiled with JDK 1.5 or 1.6. It is not a signing problem, though it is related to certificate checking logic or a concurrency flaw in javaws' AppPolicy and TrustDecider classes. It is not a host server or network problem as those have been varied with same results. It is not a specific .jar problem as I have varied what is the first .jar with same results. I have eliminated all other variables to find the only difference is what Java version the app is compiled with. Well, all but one other variable - I have not tried with apps other than mine.
    My app is compiled with JDK 1.4.2 so I can still support older platforms. That requirement is going away soon but this is still a regression from 6u23 that is causing a big problem for at least this developer.

    You can try to use the version of the jarsigner JDK 1.5 or later.
    Has changed the management of files in META-INF.
    So compile with 1.4 but sign with 1.5 or later

    A problem regarding set up of Oracle Lite 3.6.0.2.0 on Win 95, with JDK 1.1.8 and Java 2 SDK ( Ver 1.3 Beta)

    And, I can run JAVA.EXE from any directory on command prompt.
    With JAVA 2 SDK (ver 1.3 Beta) instead of JDK 1.1.8 I'm getting a different Error message as follows:

    java.lang.NoClassFoundError: 'FILES\ORA95_2\LITE\DESIGNER\oldes.jar;C:\PROGRAM'
    Please make sure that JDK 1.1.4 (or greater) is installed in your machine and CLASSPATH is set properly. JAVA.EXE must be in the PATH.

    the PATH and CLASSPATH were set accordingly, as with JDK1.1.8, and there was no classes.zip in classpath
    also the class file or the jar file looks weird or wrapped in the error message : 'FILES\ORA95_2\LITE\DESIGNER\oldes.jar;C:\PROGRAM'
    Another interesting thing I noticed is if I run oldes.exe from Installation CD, the Oracle Lite Designer runs fine, and without error, I'm able to modify tables in the database of my laptop also.
    Could someone shade some light on what am I doing wrong here ?
    Thanks for help in advance .

  • Is it possible to run OAS 10.1.2  with JDK 1.6 ???

    Well on the one hand we have Oracle ADF BC application that was developed with JDeveloper 10.3.4 and runs fine on OAS 10.1.2 JDK 1.4 on the other hand we have a 3rd party Map Server (servlet + java code) that is black box and only runs on JDK 1.6 because it needs JDK 1.6 features.
    Currently the only available course of going forward is to introduce a new open source 1.6 compliant server to run the Map Server and use AJAX to cross domain communicate the two. Client would like to avoid this, would like one application on one server.
    Restrictions are
    1) To get the Map Server in JDK 1.4 format is not an option and
    2) Upgrading to a Oracle Server that is JDK 1.6 and supports the ADF BC application is not an option. And not sure if OAS 11 can run the ADF BC application since I did a quick test by trying to compile the ADF BC application JDeveloper 10.3.4 code in JDeveloper 11 with out any success.
    So to my question if I could run OAS 10.1.2 JDK 1.6 it might solve the problem before i attempt that I like to ask the ideas of others that might have faced such integration issues before.
    This is urgent any help is welcome by anyone and everyone and especially the Gurus.
    thanks in advanced health and happiness to every one

    AFAIK, Oracle AS 10.1.2 is not certified with JDK 1.5 or higher.
    Oracle AS 10.1.3 is certified with JDK 1.5 and 1.6 on some platforms. (Check metalink.oracle.com -> certify for details)
    Oracle FMW 11.1.1.0.1 (aka WebLogic 10.3 plus JDeveloper 11.1.1.0.1) is certified with JDK 1.6
    Not certified means use it on your own risk - no support.

    As you can see the test machine has everything mounted on 1 partition only, whereas the production uses several. The test machine has a ext2 filesystem and the production machine ext3 filesystems. The dbxml binaries and libraries are installed in /usr/local/dbxml on both machines. The databases are installed somewhere in /home/koen/.
    I've compiled dbxml succssfully on both machines, but ran into severe compilation problems on the production machine when compiling Xerces. Instead of digging and solving into the problem I have simply copied the successful compilation of the test machine to the production machine. Everything seems to work.
    My question is very simple. Can one do that, copying one compilation to another machine with the same OS but with a different filesystem?
    Thank you
    Koen

    Hello
    Thank you. One can never be sure enough, isn't it? For your information, the copy is running fine. My question was more related to the file system. As we don't know the inner workings of dbxml, we can never tell if the knowledge of type of file system is used internally.
    Bye
    Koen

  • What is wrong with JDK 1.5 ????

    Greetings: On two identical machines I ran this simple program several times:
    import TurtleGraphics.StandardPen;
    class DrawSquare
    public static void main ( String args[] )
         StandardPen pen = new StandardPen();
         //pen.up();
         //pen.move(25);
         //pen.turn(90);
         //pen.move(25);
         //pen.down();
         for ( int counter = 1; counter <= 180 ; counter++ )
         pen.turn ( 2 );
         pen.turn(90); pen.move(150);
         pen.turn(90); pen.move(150);
         pen.turn(90); pen.move(150);
         pen.turn(90); pen.move(150);
    The Machine with JDK 1.4.2 executed it in 2 secs and drew a circle, while the one with JDK 1.5 took 60 secs. Is the cost of the new JDK extreme slowness in running programs ???????????????
    BMR

    I've seen a dramatic slowdown using the 1.5 jre as well. I haven't done any profiling, so I don't know exactly what my problem is, but this link seemed pretty interesting: http://jroller.com/comments/bloritsch/Weblog/interesting_discovery_with_jdk_1
    He says that java programs that were compiled with a 1.4 sdk perform extremely slow on a 1.5 jre, when compared with programs compiled with a 1.5 sdk using a 1.5 jre.
    Can you see if your external library (TurtleGraphics) can be re-compiled with 1.5?

  • Help to compile SQLJ in Oracle816 r2 with SDK2 v1.3

    Currently I have SDK2 v.1.3 from SUN installed in my Linux box. When I tried to compile an SQLJ file using the "sqlj" command, it seems that it has internal compile error.
    I read the README.txt in the SQLJ directory, and found this:
    "The SQLJ translator now works with JDK 1.2 [Bug 814692]. Ensure that you are using the proper Oracle JDBC driver file (classes12.zip)."
    Now, the default JDBC driver comes with Oracle 8.1.6 r2 is 'classes111.zip'. Is there a patch or something that can upgrade the JDBC driver so I don't have to download 560Mb of Oracle 8.1.7 just to learn how to use sqlj?
    Thanks.

    I would have expected both JDK 1.1 and JDK 1.2 JDBC driver versions to be distributed with your database. (The 1.2 version, while not certified with JDK 1.3 should work reasonably well.)
    The 8.1.7 JDBC driver is downloadable from OTN - the thin drivers (both JDK 1.1 and JDK 1.2) work with all appropriate Java platforms.
    One more thing: SQLJ 8.1.7 does not work properly under JDK 1.3. As a workaround, you can specify the -passes option (though error messages will not be given on the .sqlj file). A better workaround is to create a script (say "myjavac") that calls javac but captures stdout and stderr and sends both to stdout. Then specify -compiler-executable=myjavac in your sqlj.properties file and you should be in business.

  • Debugging with JDeveloper 2 with JDK 2

    Oracle Jdev team,
    I am running jdeveloper 2 (JDK 1.2), build 343. Whenever I
    attempt to debug an app i get this error dialog:
    Cannot debug project with Target JDK 'java
    version "JDK1.2_JDEVELOPER'", can only debug with Target
    JDK 'java version "1.2"'.
    My Project Properties Target JDK Version is pointing to the java

    Sourcepath
    [D:\Tools\JDeveloper20\java1.2\src.jar]\src\
    I've attempted to use various 1.2 jdks to get the debugger to
    work, but always with the same version.
    The project began as a JDK 1.2 project (did not attempt to
    switch from a jdk 1.1.x project).
    I;m sure you've seen this before, what am I doing wrong???

    I have the same problem but even wierder.
    When I try to debug my project JDeveloper says
    Cannot debug project with Target JDK 'java version
    "JDK1.1.7_JDeveloper'", can only debug with Target JDK 'java
    version "1.1.8'".
    I do indeed have such a Target JDK defined, but I have not
    compiled anything in the current project with that. In fact I
    haven't switched JDKs at all in this project, nor in this
    workspace.
    What gives?

  • JRE with JDK !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi,
    I am new to Java development.I have a doubt---why does SUN provide JRE along with JDK when u have a runtime environment available within ur JDK. It could have been provided only seperatley for nondevelopers to download.why JRE with JDK...
    Is it marketing :-) or Does the JRE have features that are not there in JDK ???
    Thanx
    Shiv

    The JDK is for development purposes. Sun could, if they wanted to, make the versions different. For instance, the JDK can be compiled with certain flags to help development (debugging, etc.)
    The JRE is used for a "real world" test bed.

  • Performance problems with jdk 1.5 on Linux plattform

    Performance problems with jdk 1.5 on Linux plattform
    (not tested on Windows, might be the same)
    After refactoring using the new features from java 1.5 I lost
    performance significantly:
    public Vector<unit> units;
    The new code:
    for (unit u: units) u.accumulate();
    runs more than 30% slower than the old code:
    for (int i = 0; i < units.size(); i++) units.elementAt(i).accumulate();
    I expected the opposite.

  • Issue while installing ODI 11.1.1.6 with JDK 7u

    Hi All,
    I am working on installing ODI on windows 64 bit. I downloaded lastest web logic server files, ODI files and JDK files from oracle site..
    I installed Web Logice server with no errors but when I tried to install ODI by running the setup.exe it was giving me an error:
    "Error: Provide the JDK/JRE Location while launching the installer. Invoke the sertup.exe with -jreLoc <JDK/JRE Location absolute path>Parameter(s)".
    So, I looked in to JDK file and noticed that it is an old file and need to be updated so I installed "jdk-7uf-windows-i586.exe". After installing when I try to setup ODI, I am still getting the same error..
    It is asking me to provide the location but I am not srue where to provide the location.. I know the location for JDK i.e. C:\Program files\Java\jdk1.7.0_04 but I am not sure where to provide this location for ODI..
    Thanks a lot!

    2 things must be noticed:
    First: ODI 11g is not supported by JDK 7, I always use the JDK1.6.0_27 and works fine. When you try to open the ODI Studio, this message appears, telling that ODI is supported only with JDK 6 versions, so don't try to use JDK 7.
    Second: I always install the JDK in a path without spaces, like "C:\JDK1.6.0_27\" and the excatly same thing to odi install files. So I call via Command Prompt:
    C:\ODI_INSTALL\Disk1\setup.exe -jreLoc C:\JDK1.6.0_27\
    I did over 20 windows installations using these settings, it'll work perfectly.
    Regards.
