Complaint: cannot sync calendars or contacts without icloud

I have an iphone 5s, and on the phone and laptop [macbook pro early 2011] fully update OSs, 10.9 maverix and iOS 7.0.3.
I cannot sync my calendars and contacts anymore from the phone to computer, with icloud, it seems. i am still searching for a solution to this obvious problem/bug.
If this is Apple's intention then i register my complaint. Removing this choice from your loyal customers is simply a bad decision. I do not ever want to use icloud, do not need or want it. Also that this non-icloud sync ability was removed, without a word anywhere that i can see, this dismays me and makes me wish i had checked out alternative phones/OSs. --I am not hopeful that android would be any better. Just wish i had learned before buying two days ago the 5s.
I hope that a future update will bring this ability back.

Don't know how you are able to continue receiving email with the account, but this will end soon.
If you are accessing the account with the Mail.app on your Mac, you should transfer all server stored messages to a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox ASAP. When account access is stopped which will happen soon, all messages that remain on the server will be lost.
If you don't intend to purchase a MM account, best to stop using it now since anyone that sends you email will no longer be able to do so once access to the account has stopped, which will happen soon.
Turning off over the air syncing for contact info and calendar events should allow for this and the same for when deleting the account on your iPhone. I read a post recently by someone with the same problem. They were told to delete and recreate the account on the iPhone but don't enable over the air syncing for contact info and calendar events after doing so.

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

  • Why can I no longer sync iCal and contacts without iCloud?

I dont use iCloud basically because by doing so all your data - specifically your contacts and calendar - gets uploaded to an Apple server where it sits for ever. If you decide you want to stop using iCloud (like you decide for some weird reason to use windows instead...or you move somewhere where there's no internet - its possible) it deletes your data from the device you have unsubscribed from. This basically means once you are on iCloud there is no going back. Apple basically acts as if it owns you and your data and inorder to access it (excude me but my calender and contacts list belongs to me) its obligitory to use Apple and iCloud...if you dont it gets deleted and is gone for ever.
So I sync via USB/WiFi...but now after 'upgrading' to Mavericks this option is no longer permitted? You MUST use iCloud.....WHY?? - I dont want to!
I run a business and use iCal to make all my business bookings - these used to sync easily between my iPad and my iMac. Now it doesnt unless I hand over the rights to all my data for all enternity to Apple inc.
This is my stuff and it doesnt belong to Apple - I want to keep it that way
How can I sync iCal and Contacts without signing away ownership of my diary and contacts to Apple?
Am I going to have to ditch my Mac?? Why wasnt this more widely publicized??
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply Arthur. Actually, I just got off the phone with an apple rep telling me you can't downgrade, and that yes, apple actually IS forcing you to use iCloud - if, that is, you actually want to be able to sync your contacts or calendar. Apparently you are special and know something different, so please enlighten the rest of us.
    Here is one way
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6311
    Here is another
    http://www.apple.com/au/osx/server/
    Here is yet another
If your Mavericks came with anything other than Mavericks pre-installed
OS X Mavericks: Revert to a previous OS X version
Also there are a host of other Cloud services you can use. You do not have to use iCloud at all. Although there ARE over 320+ million iCloud presently active, so it is extremely popular with users.

  • Cannot Sync Calendar and Contacts

I upgraded to Windows 7 but am still using Outlook 2003 as it is compatible with my office server for data storage. I am not sure when exactly but when I upgraded iPhone software to 4.3.2, I find that since Windows 7/Software 4.3.2, I cannot sync my calendar and contacts in Outlook 2003 with my iPhone. Old entries in my calendar are still there but the new entries do not show. I have even reduced my calendars to one single calendar. Worse, sometimes when I try to sync, it causes Outlook 2003 to hang and close. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

its done in the info tab
the most easy way is to get both OS X and ios to sync with icloud
but otherwise you need to spc. a bit more then "having trouble" too little info

  • Would Like for two Iphones and Imac to sync calendars and contacts on Icloud

I would like for my wifes Iphone calendar, contacts etc. to sync with my Iphone and Imac just like it did with Mobile me. Both iphones use the same Apple ID Will this work?

The data should automatically upload from your phone when you turn syncing to On in Settings>iCloud.  You may get a prompt when you do this asking if you want to merge the data on your phone with the iCloud account (if you get this prompt choose to merge).  Also, after the data is uploaded, when you turn any synced setting to Off it should ask you if you want to keep the data on the iPhone or remove it.  Furthermore, if you just delete the account from your phone without turning off data syncing first, any data you are syncing with iCloud would also be deleted from the phone.
Since you didn't get either of these prompts when you turned syncing on or off, and your data was deleted when you deleted the account before setting it up again, this all indicates that the data was never uploaded to iCloud in the first place.  Maybe it's just slow right now and it needs longer to upload your data to the account.  Maybe there's a problem with the server right now.  Suggest you turn off your data syncing in Settings>iCloud, then wait an hour or two and turn it back on and see if it uploads then.  (If you get a prompt when you turn it back on, choose merge.)

  • Syncing Calendars and Contacts without the complete home folder on the server

I've been trying to set up syncing of calendars and contacts using Mavericks server. I've read a lot of posts on various ways of doing this but am at a loss as to the how the various parts of the solutions work which may be why I haven't been able to get things to work.
I've installed Server.app and got Open Directory set up. I want to sync the calendars for two users on a couple of client machines (both running Snow Leopard at the moment) and three mobile devices. The clients were set up before the server and so the user accounts are local. Putting the home folders and all the files they contain on the server is not an option as there's not enough disk space. Ideally I'd like to have all the user files on the local machines and only the data I need to sync on the server. Is this possible? All of the information I've read on migrating local users to network users suggests that their complete home folder needs to be put on the server and I've not found any way to set up the syncing successfully without making them network users.

Thanks for the answer Simon. That seems simple enough but there are some things which aren't clear.
If I create accounts on the server for the users independently (ie not ownership of the home folder) they're going to have different UID's. Surely this means that even with the same account name and password, they're going to be treated as unique users. Does that not affect who has write access? I don't know how the Calendar and Contact servers work so this may be irrelevant.
How do you "have the server host their calendar and contact details"? Copying the files for the existing local users to the new users on the server will leave them with invalid permissions.
I have read that using the Calendar and Contact components of Server.app is not a supported way of syncing across machines and that they're intended to be used for shared information rather than syncing. But maybe there is no way to avoid an "unsupported method" without moving the home folder. Is this a method you're using?
I'll do a bit of testing with this but would also be grateful for any additional hints.

  • Outlook for Mac : Cannot sync calendars or contacts with ipad/iphone

I have looked at all the forums, product literature, etc and it seems that there is no way I can sync my calendars and contacts with Iphone/Ipad.. I know this is possible with Exchange or Microsoft Office 365 but I don't want to change my current sw. I am really frustrated.. Any clues?

No, the only online solution supported with Office for Mac is Microsoft Exchange.

  • TS4147 Is there any way with the latest version of iTunes to restore the ability to sync calendar and contacts WITHOUT using that cloud?

Until I got to the latest version of iTunes, I always synced contacts and calendar directly.  Now that option is gone.  I have shut off iCloud but still don't have anyway to sync these, apparently, without going to the cloud.  I don't want to share my information with Apple.  Further, in the past any time I have attempted something like this it was a complete mess with entries duplicated.

You can if you install OS X server (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/os-x-server/id714547929), as discussed here: http://www.macworld.com/article/2061183/itunes-ios-syncing-gone-solve-it-with-se rver-.html.

  • Cannot sync calendars after upgrading to iCloud.

I have an iPod Touch 2nd generation running iOS 4.21.  I knew it wouldn't upgrade to iOS 5 nor sync wirelessly with iCloud, but thought I could get it to sync via USB cable with my iMac and Macbook Pro, which are now on iCloud.  Music, apps and photos synced fine, and calendar events produced on the Macs sync to the iPod Touch, but I can't get events produced on the iPT calendar to sync to the Macs via cable, no matter what calendars I use.  Anyone know how to do this?

OK, here's an update.  I bought Week Calendar app for $1.99 and it's very nice.  It syncs to iCal and vice versa, only its events do not register on iCloud.  If you change them on iCal to an iCloud calendar event then they sync, and update on Week Calendar as iCloud events, which cannot be edited on Week Calendar.  If one is syncing between iPT or iPhone and only one computer with iCal, then you don't have to re-name the event, of course, but I'm syncing to several computers, and they all get it just fine.  It's a little awkward work-around, but a lot cheaper than buying a new iPT.

  • Cannot sync calendars and contacts

    Hello,
my friend just got a new iPod with video, and as I was helping him set it all up (he's not very technical), I realized that it won't let me sync contacts and calendars.
When you go to iTunes-preferences-iPod, there's no button option for 'contact' or 'calendars', they have been replaced by a 'video' button.
He has an iBook G3, running Panther.
    Any ideas?

Ok a solution of sorts is to create a folders on your ipod (if they don't already exist), called Calendars and one called Contacts.
Open contacts (the application) on your mac, select all your contacts and choose export vCard. Save this as iSync.vcf to the folder contacts on your ipod.
Likewise open iCal and export as a calendar archive named iSync to the Calendars folder on the ipod.
if you already have these files in the folder you will get the message' “iSync.vcf” already exists. Do you want to replace it?'
    choose 'Replace'.

  • HT204053 cannot sync calendar on my new ipad mini. my mac and macbook use a .me account for iCloud. How can I change this?

I cannot sync calendar on new ipad mini. My mac desktop and mac book have an old .me icloud account name. Cannot change that so how do I sync?

If you had a passcode set on your iPad your data should be safe.  The thief would have to force it into recovery mode and restore it in order to use it, which would completely erase it.
This shouldn't keep your daughter's device from accessing the iCloud account however.  If you can no longer sign into the account on iCloud.com from your computer, contact Apple support for assistance.

Hoping for some help with a very frustrating issue!
I have been syncing calendar and contacts on my iPhone 5 and Outlook 2007 using iCloud  2.1.3 (my PC is running Vista). All was well until the events I entered on the phone were showing up in Outlook, but not the other way around. I’ve tried the usual recommended steps: deselecting calendar and contacts in the iCloud control panel and then re-selecting, signing out of the panel and back in, and repairing the Outlook installation in control panel.  I even uninstalled iCloud on the PC and downloaded it again (same version).
The furthest I’ve gotten is step 2 (and once, step 3) of 7 while performing “Outlook Setup For iCloud.” At that point I get, “Your setup couldn’t be started because of an unexpected error.”  After the first attempt at all this, all my calendar events disappeared from Outlook, although they are still in iCloud calendar and on my phone.
Sound familiar?  Any ideas on how to solve this iCloud/Outlook issue?  Thanks much in advance!
