Complete Apple TV Resync when upgrading my server? Is there a better way?

We recently replaced our old imac that served are the ITunes library with a new one. We have two Apple TVs.
I configured the new server using a time machine backup from my old. I de-authorized my old computer and re-authorized the new one. All of my music, movies and pictures transferred over fine. To get the Apple TVs to work (they weren't visible on the new server), I had to 'remove' them from the old computer. Then add them again be getting a code from the ATVs and typing it into the new ITunes server.
Even though both ATVs were current with all content, they reloaded everything. I'm about 48 hours in, and it still isn't done. Was there a better way?

No, unfortunately, it's one of the more annoying aspects of the ATV. If you replace the computer you keep your iTunes library on the ATV sees it as a different library even though it's the same library on a different computer. The hardware signature of the new computer is different, so the ATV doesn't recognize it as the same library. The same thing happens if you replace the hard drive in your computer, the ATV will no longer recognize it as the same computer. Your only option is to wait for the sync to complete.

Depends wher you obtained the iPhone from and it's original supplier
If the iPhone is an authorised unlock ( approved by the carrier) or was
purchased from Apple as an unlocked iPhone updating the iOS
will have no effect on the iPhone and it's lock status
HOWEVER if the software has been tampered with to remove the lock,
updating the iOs will lock the iPhone back to the original carrier who holds the lock
To find out the status of your iPhone you could call Apple support
and they may tell you if the iPhone is locked or not and if it is which carrier

When installing SQL Server is there a benefit to overriding the defaults for the Shared Feature Directory?

When installing SQL Server under feature selection you are given the option to change the Shared feature directories. When you choose to change from the default OS drive it seems that the installation
process still installs a large amount of files on the OS drive and then additional files under a similar drive structure on the alternative drive. Is there any real benefit to changing the default location?
Additional is there benefit to changing the default location for the installed features, database engine etc. We are trying to create some clean templates that we can bring up in our production
environment so we are provisioning separate drives for data, logs, backups, tempdbs but as we use the prepare image it seems like splitting the installation of sql server into two separate locations to safe minimally on file space seems counterproductive.
I have searched for best practices and this area seems glossed over in most articles, I found a few that indicate later installation of features on a machine that use a non-standard shared component
drive has caused issues. I would like to know there are benefits to taking such actions.

The best reason I can think about installing SQL Server binaries on another drive different than the system drive is the
fact the page file (pagefile.sys) is located on the system drive by default. The more I/O I can prevent happening on that drive the better for the performance of operating system.
SQL Server still installs some binaries on the system drive anyway, and creating a partition for SQL Server binaries alone
may seem like a waste.

In the future, there won't be any Flash. Adobe, who makes it, has cancelled future versions for mobile devices like the iPad:

You should check if there is another way to get the live stream. For example, I sometimes watch online classes on a site that uses Flash for the video. But they also provide a non-Flash video stream that can be watched in an iPhone or iPad web browser, and an iOS app that you can also use to watch the stream.

Hi, I have a server needs to upgrade from windows server 2003 sp2 to windows server 2008 r2.

And yes, it went through all the list of upgrade. After rebooted, it told me "the upgrade was not successful, Your previous version of windows is being restored. Do not restart your computer during this time.".
Is there a place located the upgrade failure log? What's the common cause about the auto roll back?

That usually means that your payment information is incomplete. Even if you want to download free apps, unless you were able to select "None" as your payment option when you created the ID, you still have to enter a credit card.
There is a very specific way that you have to create an Apple ID if you don't want to use a credit card and I am guessing that is what you wanted to do originally, but you didn't do it correctly. The instructions are in this kb article.

What should i do

Insert the install disk and boot from it. Use disk utitlity to repair your drive and check for errors (report any errors back here) then reinstall the os. This should not erase your data.

One Apple ID that the whole family uses it, is ther a better way to use family sharing?

My wife and I share the same apple ID on all of our apple devices (Mac-running Yosemite, Iphone 4s, Ipad), and my sons no have their own ipods and I want them to use the ID as well, but I am having trouble because I am getting txts and other messages when my sons send message to their friends.
My sons are 9 & 6 so getting them and Apple Id is not appropriate at this time (or allowed). Is there a way that I can set up a child account under our Apple ID?

Using waits to control when data is taken--there are better ways

I see this all of the time. It was brought up in the Rube Goldberg Code thread, but Altenbach suggested that I move it here.
My post:
I really don't like the idea of using any type of wait function in a while loop to control when operations are done. I see this over and over but what happens if someone wants to kill the program right away but they are taking data every 10 seconds with the way this is coded? The user hits stop and has to potentially wait 10 seconds for the program to actually stop! Try using a case structure and possibly a countdown timer to your advantage to fix this. I'm sure there are many other ways also, if anyone else wants to suggest something.

Problems occur in poorly desinged code with deeply stacked while loops and excessive use of sequences, for example. A well designed state machine will never have such issues.
You are right, hard waits should typically not be used for anything longer than fractions of a second, and ther are plenty of alternatives (such as events with dynamic timeout recalculations (example) as discussed here). A program needs to be able to react to user input, including stop commands, at any time. If you get long stalls, you're definitely doing something wrong. I don't think there is any literature that suggest to use long waits.

As I don't have LabVIEW on this computer it makes starting this thread a little difficult but I thought it would be good to start something where people could post examples of code where they take data or do operations at different intervals, but do it with efficient methods such as using a state machine, etc. This way new users of LabVIEW could see examples of how to program in a way that would, as altenbach said, react to user inputs efficiently, rather than having a crummy program that takes forever to stop, or take in a string, or change of control value etc due to a wait function being added to control when data is taken. I hope this turns into a useful thread!

When I share a file to YouTube, where does the output file live? I want also to make a DVD. And is this a best practice or is there a better way?

I would export to a file saved on your drive as h.264, same frame size. Then import that into youtube.
I have never used FCP X to make a DVD but I assume that it will build the needed vob mpeg 2 source material for the disk.
I used to use Toast & IDVD. Toast is great.
To "see" the files created by FCP 10.1.1 for YouTube, rt. (control) click on the Library Icon in your Movies/show package contents/"project"/share.

DBUA issue with timezones when upgrading 11.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.3

My task is to migrate an Oracle 11.2.0.2 test database (source database) to 11.2.0.3. The source database hat timezone files (RDBMS DST) version 18 installed. OS ist Windows 2008 R2.
I installed the 11.2.0.3 patchset into a separate Oracle Home (target) to perform an "Out-of-place"-upgrade. According to Note 1358166.1 I also installed the corresponding timezone files (version 18) into the target Oracle Home by applying the corresponding patch set using Opatch. The patch succeeded, and new files were copied into the \oracore\zoneinfo subdirectory under the target's Oracle Home. The files included a file named "readme_18.txt". As there is no database under the target Oracle Home there is no way to do the rest of the installation steps as described in Note 977512.1 (i.e. DBMS_DST.UPGRADE_DATABASE)
When I started the DBUA GUI from the Windows Start Menu (the version from the target Oracle Home), the source database was found, however during the analysis phase I got an error message stating that the timezone files on the target database have a lower version that the timezone files of the source database. The error in the trace.log (subdirectory of ORACLE_BASE\cfgtoollogs\dbua) reads:
*[PreMigrationCheck.checkTZVersion:101] new oracle home TZ file version 14 and source oracle home TZ file version 18*
To ensure that this problem is not resolved with one of the patchsets, I deinstalled the targed Oracle Home, reinstalled the 11.2.0.3 release, applied the latest patchset (Patch 13) using OPatch and then applied the timezone files version 18 using OPatch: Same error as before.
I started reading tons of documents, but I found nothing about this error in the forum or other places in the internet. So I started experimenting and I found a workaround: In the \oracore\zoneinfo subdirectory I renamed
- readme.txt to readme_14.txt and
- readme_18.txt to readme.txt
When I started DBUA again, the error did not return and I was able to migrate.
Question: Did I use a suitable workaround, or is there a better way to circumvent the DBUA error? Maybe I missed an important step.

How do I get the RSS Feed to work when loading onto server other than .mac?

Does anyone have any knowledge of this? I am uploading a site created in iWeb on to a Media Temple which of course, disables many key functions in iWeb. One thing it supposedly doesn't disable though, is the RSS Feed, provided you input the proper URL when publishing the site. However, after nearly 20 tries with as many variations on the url as I could think of, nothing seems to work. Anyone have any insight? Many thanks in advance.

It takes two things...
1. Entering the correct base URL in the Publish to Folder window, and...
2. Uploading the correct files to your server
Number 1
When you select "Publish to Folder", there should be a little text field where you are asked to enter in a URL. What you need to enter here is the base URL for your site, and in most cases this is simply your domain name: http://www.yourdomain.com That's it. Nothing more. iWeb will then take this URL base and generate a functioning RSS feed URL.
Number2
When you select "Publish to Folder", you are asked to specify a folder INTO which iWeb will save the files necessary for the functioning of your site. You will need to upload only the CONTENTS of this specified folder, which includes only TWO items: an index.html file & your sitefolder. You must upload only these two items to your server WITHOUT the enclosing folder (the one you told iWeb to publish into.
If you satisfy the above two conditions (and only if you satisfy these two conditions), then you will end up with a functioning, automatically generated RSS feed from iWeb on your own server. There are other ways of achieving this endpoint (a functioning RSS feed), but this is the ONLY way to get iWeb to do all the work for you.

Either you updated to iOS5.01 or iOS5.1.
Details are important... like details of the issue that is really occurring and not the BS "upgraded to 4G" because that simply did not happen.
