Will ORACLE 9i after few years will be completely replaced with ORACLE 10g or higher versions.
I have worked on Oracle 9i database and i have basic knowledge about Sql commands and i am planning to go for Oracle 10g Certification does it make any difference if i do not take ORACLE 9i Certification and directly go on to do my Certification.

Will ORACLE 9i after few years will be completely replaced with ORACLE 10g or higher versions. Not sure what you mean by that. There are some systems which are running Oracle 7.x till date and the administrators have not even bothered to upgrade to Oracle 8i, let alone 10g/11g.

There are different things here to know about.
Did you also create database while installation ?
If yes then
C:\> set oracle_sid=yoursid
C:\> sqlplus username/password
If not then, please create the database first.

(1) Name : This is user name.
(2) Password: This is password.

But I'm writing the master of science work about three mobile databases (sql ce, oracle lite and sybase) and I have to write a program which will be testing performance of those databases on the mobile device.
Generally I hope this program will work ok. But I also have to write about fuures for example oracle database lite RDBMS, but in documentation there is only few generally informations and almost all document is about how to configure it and how to do something.
So if you have some generally documents (I have those white papers and other pfd on oracle site) please send it to me [email protected] .

I just successfully installed Ubuntu 7.10. I need to install Oracle 10g for Ubuntu.

How to trace an application in Oracle 10g

Hi,
I want to trace a complete application in Oracle 10g end-to-end.
Here is the scenario,
The are two systems:
System A: Oracle 10g server
System B: Windows server
The application runs on system B.
How do I trace the complete application in oracle 10g?
I read about the trcsess tool but will like to know if there is a way to collate all *.trc produced by the application.

Tracing the Oracle transactions is easy, but you need to decide what level of trace you want and identify the database sessions to trace.
Tracing can generate huge amounts of logs, so think carefully if you really need to do this.
The tracing will only capture the database transactions. It won't track what happens in the application (e.g mouse clicks etc)
Options to enable tracing :-

Importing all tables and users from Oracle 8i database to Oracle 10g

ur exp ur database from oracle 10g. from exp cmd instead of expdp cmd bcoz oracle 10g. expdp cmd is not compitable with oracle 8.
simple give cmd>exp cmd if u want exp complete database from oracle 10g..
if u have any problem go reference oracle database utilities ....
and then imp in oracle 8 using imp cmd cmd>imp cmd bcoz here u want imp complete database....

Problem Installation Oracle 10g Centos 5

I tell them my problem:
last week I'm trying to install 10g oragle realese 2 on linux. At first attempt to install on Ubuntu 11.10 but came to the installation and always had binding problems, I always look for a missing library every forum and never knew what it was. In previous versions of Ubuntu I never had problem. Another thing I do simulate linux on virtualbox.
To all this, I decided to throw out Ubuntu and I read that the distribution Centos 5 was a clone of Red Hat distribution, so, install linux all over again.
Install linux, I saw all the documentation of oracle 10g, I saw the notes on the installation, I did all the prerequisites, download the libraries that read the notes. and install it when I get this

Oracle 10G Checkpoint not complete Cannot allocate new log

We have an oracle 10G database that has 4 groups of 200M redo logs. We are constantly seeing Checkpoint not complete followed by Cannot allocate new log.. messages in the alert log. When I look at the v$instance_recovery table I see this:

It seems most of our checkpointing is being caused by the log_checkpoint_interval being set to 10000, which means we are doing 20 checkpoints during one redo log since our OS blocksize is 1024. What I'm thinking about doing is first adding two more redo log groups, and then either increasing the log_checkpoint_interval to 40000 (5 checkpoints for one redo log) or unsetting log_checkpoint_interval and setting fast_start_mttr_target to 600. Which would be the recommended parameter change? I think Oracle recommends using the fast_start_mttr_target. Are there any other suggestions?
