Complete Factory Reset of TC

1) What's the easiest way to completely 'Factory Reset' a Time Capsule with data on it?
Ideas?
2) Has anyone seen any addon software (third party) to work with or maximize TC yet?

Isn't it just a matter of holding in the reset button, and while its held, unplugging the power, waiting 5 seconds, plugging it back in, releasing the reset button?
To my understanding, that won't or shouldn't delete data written to the drive.
But what will the 'reset' button on the back actually change or reset?? Which settings?

Understood, the difference with iTunes being that Apple doesn't (currently) require you to enter any account info on the device until you try to purchase something from their store. Initial setup is just a connection to the iTunes software and you're good to go.
While I understand that RIM wishes the account to be defined, they also need to be aware that doing so during the initial setup without proving an option to do it later, while failing to provide any means to change it afterwards (short of a device wipe) doesn't always suit the the situation. Hopefully they'll be reviewing the forums to gather feedback that they can incorporate into future software updates.

  • Even after complete factory reset in a last ditch effort, my macbook is still awful. Why? Please help.

Aright, I'm really hoping I can get some help here. This macbook is the most expensive thing that I own.
So, I start up my macbook pro 13inch running macvericks a few days go and for some reason the fans are going full last and it's terribly sluggish. I dug around a bit and realized spotlight was indexing. I let it finish, then restarted my computer later that day. Then, as soon as it started back up this time the fans were going full speed again. I take care of my macbook, and I've never let it get close to overheating, then only thing that I do on it is browse the web, write, and record music using garageband. I was worried, so I looked at activity monitor and kernel_task was running full speed. I looked forever on the internet for a solution and found some useful tips about editing plists that solved my cpu problem. However, my fans still went full speed after I gave them some time to transtion, with a reset and all. So, at this point and I'm frustrated with merely the noise, I look around for fan control software and none of it stifled the raging monstrosity that has become my fan. My logic at this point? Back up everything and do a full wipe of the hard drive and reinstall mavericks. So I did. Here I am with a blank macbook pro that is now just as slow as it was and the fans are still going full speed. I can't believe I spent a years worth of saving to just have it suddenly combust on me like this. I hate to whine, but please help me. Now, the activity monitor shows levels of up to 80% cpu usage and no explanation on top of that. It's still incredibly loud and not hot at all. It's difficult to type this to you guys because my computer doesn't want to catch up. I read some stuff about involuntary indexing, I'll let the macbook run for a while today and see if anything starts to change. You're my lost hope guys. I called apple support but they wanted 19 dollars just to see if they could fix it or not, I didn't have the money to pay them now and I won't until school starts in a week, wherein I will deseprately need a fully functional macbook, the one that I paid for in August 2012 with literally all my savings.
*also, before I factory reset the macbook I did an smc and pram reset, I also took out the batter from inside the machine for 30 seconds.

    Hi,
I am having the exact same problem with my macbook pro, I was just wondering if you ever got a solution for your problem? Its been persisting for 3 days and i literally just wiped the system and am in the middle of reinstalling mavericks as we speak (i too resorted to a desktop) It was only after that i saw this thread, and now i regret wiping the system knowing it probably wont work.. but however, fresh start and all that jazz. My warranty ended just last week so im pretty disappointed with the timing, and i cant afford to keep up the warranty another year. If you could give me a solution or some guidance that would be great!
    Thanks!

  • How do I do a complete factory reset through itunes?

After I updated my iphone 4 to the new ios7 my phone wont turn on. Only the apple logo appears and says connect to itunes. Then itunes tries to restore it and says there is an error.

    Try this:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • How do I perform a factory reset on my ThinkPad tablet?

    Question
My tablet has been reasonably unstable from day 1, even pre-installed apps like ebuddy force close, I have tried removing and reinstalling the app but it still force closes immediately. I also have a heap of other apps that force close on my tablet but run fine on colleagues tablets (4 of us bought them together)
How do I do a complete factory reset on this thing, I don't want just my data removed I want a fresh Android install.
    AnswerTo perform a factory reset:
    Power the unit off.
Then hold the power button until it gives you the short vibration
Right when it does, hit the VOLUME UP button a couple of times.  (This may take a couple of tries.)
This will bring up a menu that includes a full factory reset.
Use the volume buttons to move the menu selection and the power button as the "enter" key.

i tried to install an update and now i have nothing but a tablet with a running logo. i have read everything on this site and i am very confused about what to do.  i have tried several suggestions (wiing the cache, data and trying to reboot) but i get nowhere. i am not great with the computer stuff so past the relatively simple steps i get lost inthe tech language.  going to a site and downloading to a SD card would be easy if there was just one place and not so many different ones that have multiple options and steps.   Is there a simple explanation as to what i can do to get my TPT1 working again? i dont know why Lenovo doesnt have a something to download on their website since getting bricked seems to happen often.  I called tech support and got told they couldnt help me as it was out of warranty and a new board is $575!  All they offered was what is in the manual which doesnt cover this situation as factory restore doesnt work.  i really would like to get it working again.LAlady

  • Factory reset and a minimized image recovery

    Has anybody tried this?
I am considering doing a factory reset to restore my computer to the original, and...... then..... doing a minimized image recovery to remove all the trial applications and games software on C drive.
What else will I loose doing the minimized image recovery besides the trial applications software?
How about the programs (Cyber...etc.) that were included for the Blue ray drive..play and record that aren't trials.
Just what exactly  are the trial applications ?
Any discussion or remarks on this ?
This laptop has 2 hard drives, C and D. HP's Dv7 Pavilion. Windows Home premium 64 bit O.S.
    Thanks
Spring fever, mud season and computer cleaning go together.

    Thanks saturnwings,
My reasoning for the factory reset following with a MIR is because I have 2 physically separate hard drives installed in the laptop. Looking back, I probably should have done this when I first got it.
I did finally get a response from HP stating the only thing removed by doing a MIR was the games. They had no clue what was originally on the computer even with the ser.# ( software dejour?). I might want to take this with a bit of caution (my thought).
If I was only to do the MIR only affecting my C drive with the OS, to completely? remove the games,  it would leave my D drive intact (I have 2 separate hard drives).
I loaded (installed) as many programs on to the second hard drive as I could because the C drive isn't that big. Because of this, I was worried about lingering problems, thinking  I might need to reinstall programs to regain the links to the start menu.
I'm still trying to learn how to get these programs to the start menu if I was to leave the D drive intact (MIR). I am assuming there is a way?.
What I want is a setup where my computer is free of the games, and trial software, but with the programs I have installed and the data and documents I have from these programs.
Probably the easiest way is a new install of windows and wipe the slate clean, costing me $100 +/-, but I'd loose HP drivers, etc. which I've found aren't that easy to replace.
I am leaning toward a complete factory reset, MIR to remove what bloatware I can, followed by "uninstall software" from controll panel to get rid of what I haven't used in a year with a reinstall of my prefered programs and documents but I'm still looking for other suggestions or experiences.

We want you to enjoy the best reliability with your Droid 2 Jaxie! What specific problems are you having with the device? Is your software up to date? The latest version available is: 4.5.621.A955.Verizon.en.US. If the software is up to date, we recommend running the device in safe mode to determine if third party apps may be causing the issues. I hope this information is helpful.

  • HP system restore and factory reset not completing

    Hello.
1:  Person tried a system restore to fix a user profile problem but once booted the OS changed the  user profile to "temporary" every time, checked the original profile but only the avatar was left , all other personal info was gone.
Working through "profiles list" in the registry and setting back to the original user profile from temp profile didn't work and went back to temporary.
Complete erasure  reset of all user profiles includig in the registry didn't work either. Went back to temporary profile.
It was no use to save any files while the OS was in this stat as every reboot would remove the files including in the temp profile.
2:  Tried all basic boot/DOS HP recovery for installed windows OS with no success, all system restore backups back several months failed.
3:  Tried a factory reset twice and while it did restore for the most part with the automated drivers installed the HP recovery  returns an error that factory reset did not or could not complete itself.  This was attempted twice.
While one could shut down the HP error screen in windows 8 and continue the failed reset booting error was still logged and it defaults to the HP receovery which ends up looping over and over again.
while still in windows once the HP error is closed one can goto the usual user name and password so  that was done  twice and with the simplest password.
Problems compounded when the OS rebooted and asked for user name and password, which returned "not valid" over and over again.   One time i entered the user "administrator" with the password "admin" and it worked, it started loading but then returned invalid username or password.  Point being that  that was not the actual user name and passowrd that was chosen and confirmed.
This part of the problem is the same as the first problem
3A:  I wiped the main and system partitions and reformatted them  and ran then HP factory reset once again, it restored faster than the first attempt, however it dropped to the same username/password error and i can't even get into safe mode any longer.
Again the system boot sequence registeres the restore as incomplete but i can boot select OS which is how i am able to get into windows to test the User/pass.
4:  I beleive that there is hardware malfunction with the hard drive controler in this system as i noticed that UEFI is intermitant no matter what settings you set in the BIOS/CMOS.  When UEFI boot CD/DVD does appear in the boot selection it can't detect the cd/dvd drive or a USB drive "invalid device".
Many of the boot options even when set in the bios will not always appear in the boot selector on every power up that includes legacy.
While i can boot from CD/DVD with the legacy boot selection. I can't install windows 8 or 7 becasue the HD is A GPT and without UEFI i don't get advanced options in the windows OS install partition setup.  Windows 7 or 8 won't install becasue the HD partition is a GPT format even after i wipe those paritions and make new ones with basic NTFS.
I could LLF the HD and hope that i could install windows 7 but the UEFI being intermitent would probably return the same resutls as the HP factory reset.   Similar problem with older computers when enabling AHCI in windows.
If i LLF the HD i loose the HP recovery completely.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Hello.   The laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6 notebook PC
I have since LLF'd the HD and installed windows 8.1.  It's still touchy but it's working for the time being.
A: The laptop's owner did a standard windows system restore
B: I did two windows system restores  as well as backups.
C:  Yes i usd the F11 at boot  recovery system to run windows system restores, cleanings, and finally the factory reset. Which is obvious as i stated above that if wiped both main windows partitions and it helped the factory restore speed so only restoring an image will replace the OS on the now empty partition.
D:  No i didn't keep the failed restore logs as they were randomly scrambled with all the recover cycle loops (both times).
Also i should mention that the factory restore once it failed the completion i got "insufficient sapce"  error as well  which i am guessing that it's trying to write the log file.
If memory serves there was only 40mb left on the recovery partition.  Yes MB not GB.

  • Does a factory reset delete all and make the new copy of OS completely fresh?

Hi all, so I forgot my book's passcode and I reset it from the Recovery mode. All is fine, but I was wondering does a factory reset delete all and make the new copy of OS completely fresh? All the chains, registries and all, just like a fresh copy of Windows ? Or did I mixed up all...
P.S. Strange after the factory reset and the system's downloading I got this as apps (of course some are downloaded by me)

does a factory reset delete all and make the new copy of OS completely fresh?
Actually, the "delete all" part is done by your using Disk Utility to erase the partition, as part of your clean install.

  • I loaded Win 7 on my laptop and didn't back up my phone to I tunes. I loaded IOS 6 to the phone and it needed to sync. The Itunes didn't connect to my account phone factory reset. I have logged on why can't I get my apps and music back to my phone?

I loaded Win 7 on my laptop and hadn't loaded I tunes yet when I updated my phone to IOS 6. It needed to sync and had to factory reset. I have loaded I tunes, logged on yet still can't get my apps or music to load on my phone again? I have added the I tunes back-up to the folder on my newly loaded PC? Any suggestions before I go to the apple store and use the F word.

The same thing happened to my poor sister, and she is panicking because of all of her photos of her "daughter growing up" that will be lost.  It seems that this has happened to several people already, and I REALLY hope that Apple figures this out so that it doesn't force all of these people to completely reset their devices.  Best of luck to you, and I am bookmarking this and other similar discussions to monitor for other, more desirable solutions.

    Hi James_uk,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with factory reset on your ThinkPad E530.
If you have not done any changes in the HDD partition, you can use F11 to perform the system recovery.
Below is the link where you can download the user manual to know the complete details on preinstalled OS.
