Complete loss of system audio?

I've just installed the new iPod software for my precious new 5g iPod and it works beautifully. However, I've noticed that I've lost all of my computer's audio. my speaker icon in the systray has completely disappeared. When i go to control panel and select "sounds and audio devices" the main window with the Volume tab says i have No Audio Devices. if i click on the next tab, the sounds tab and try to play one of the system sounds, i get a pop up window that tells me that
"Windows cannot play the sound %SystemRoot%\media\whatever sound file.wav. Your sound card may be in use."
anyone have a clue on this one?

Hi, Matthew:
Try a hard reset of the notebook first.

If that fails to restore your audio, then see if reinstalling the audio driver helps.

  • I'm at a complete loss...

I'm using Windows 7.  Recently installed 11 and seemed to have lost all my audiobooks and hated the new format.  So, I decided to revert back to an older version. I unistalled itunes and reinstalled 10.7 but then all my books were gone.  I called carbonite and they restored my books.  Two days later, I was unable to restore them back given the instructions from carbonite.  After a bit of effort I found I needed to "unhide" each and every book under "add folder to library" in the file menu.  It seems to be working, but my books are not set up the way they the used to be. I used to have a nice three column block under my menu.  It contained, "Spoken or audio" in the first column, Author/Artist in the second, and in the third each book the author wrote was listed.  I could choose one book, put it into my play list and then to my ipod.  Try as I might I can no longer sort like this and at a complete loss what to do.  Right prior to downloading 11 everything was fine and grouped just the way I liked it.  If anyone has any ideas, I would be grateful.  I've tried the sorting by artist and that doesn't set it the way it used to be.  Thank you in advance.

    Hi someotherguy,
Can you help me with this problem?
I hit enter to stop the normal boot and then appear a window to select different options:
    - F1: Enter BIOS
    - Another one I don't remember
    - F12: Select bootable device
Any of the menus I've tryied to enter I got a message afterwards saying:
    "Intel Boot Agent GE v1.3.81
    PXE 2.1 Build 091 WfM 2.0)"
And just stays there. Nothing happens.
After pressing F1 or F12 or other, I got a small message saying press CTRL+S to enter the setup menu. If I press it, I enter in a menu just to change the amount of time that message appear and if I want it or not.
    Can you help me?
I need to activate the virtualization on the BIOS in order to setup virtual machines!

  • System audio gets scrambled please help.

    Hi,
I was rendering one sequence and exported using quicktime (no quicktime conversion settings), as I needed to add the chapter marker on it.
I exported it as reference file (Full file gave me problem with the fade out at the end of the video).
When playing it back on quicktime, I heard the audio produced delay and then started to get scrambled, like the end of Mr. Self Destruct from Nine Inch Nails. check on youtube to hear what i mean.
but my sequence exported from final cut was only composed by a stereo soft music and spoken stereo track.
I did lots of cuts on this footage works fairly well on the video side (ACVHD 1080p) but both spoken audio (still in mov) and aiff file need rendering. I did only one fade in fade out effects, music audio has -8 decibel.
Those are all the changes i did.
Scratches files are on usb external hard drive. big one. User Settings is AVCHD 30fps (29,97).
    Audio is 48khz 24bit.
But among all the sequences (15) I exported just this one gave me problem. It is even one of the shortest ones.
Another problem is that when I play the sequence on Final Cut the audio stops at the same point all the time
(1 minute and 10), and also this time the whole system audio (itunes quicktime volume up and down) starts popping and mute completely until I reboot ! And then again when I play it from the timeline same problem,
although I do some modifications to re render the audio.
I uninstalled fcp and reinstalled it.
    I trashed the preferences.
I removed audio hijack and the hijack.ape from input managers folder.
    I reset the Pram.
I set all the settings for low/faster performance.
I closed all the application to free Ram.
I trashed all the render files on all locations (internal HD and external).
I moved out Audio and video Plugins, to make fcp light.
    But no luck.
Please note that at the time of this problem happened, I wasn't installing nor changing anything,
As I was busy in exporting the whole 15 sequences from the same project. I joined some sequences but not this problematic one.
I am on a macbook aluminum 2.0 4 gb ram.
My External HD has 3 partions, 2 Mac and 1 Win Formatted.
    Privileges are ok.
I looked throughout the forum but I couldn't see anything.
    thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply and tip. Can't remember what happened with fade out, I think simply didn't apply and it re looped the last frames.
I "solved" the problem by making a new sequence and partially remaking it from scratch.
Then i vaguely copied and pasted from old sequence as copying and paste the whole sequence content onto the new sequence didn't work either !
However this popping noise already happened to me before.
Then, when I was able to join all sequences on a sane quicktime mov, iDVD cut off the audio at one point, I re-exported the video_ts and again iDVD at the same point cut off the audio. I checked the quicktime mov tracks and everything was fine, I also started the iDVD project from scratch as when iDVD tells you that he can update the file for you, he then messes up all the time the Chapters as he simply can't handle this function (aka bug !). I mean it's been a nightmare, still is.
However this iDVD bug is another topic, I would like to keep this post open as it the initial problem has no official solution yet. Could be also useful to somebody else, and also, I am very curious what's the cause, and if it can be fixed properly and faster. If it could happen to me again I don't want to play with timeline.
    Thanks again for your reply.

  • PSE 8 Setup hangs (80% complete) with checking system profile message

    Hello
I have a  Elements 8 installation problem (Setup hang with checking system profile message). I'm running Mac OS 10.6.1 on a MacBook Pro  (Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz, Memory: 4 GB) purchased mid 2009. I have contacted Adobe support and tried all of their suggestions (open case #181253338). I did reinstall OS x 6.1, ran CS$ clean script, ran cache clean tool, and many reboots. I noticed in the discussions that the install of OS X 6 has, at times, corrupted some files creating install problems.  I am at a loss and would enjoy any suggestions on what to try next.

    Hi,
Attached are the logs from \library\logs\Adobe\Installers
I cleared out the logs, ran PSE Setup until it hung then did Force Quit on
    Setup and attached the logs.
    Thanks for your attention,
    Gary

    Hi,
Can you please send in the log files which can be obtained from the below
    location:
    \Library\Logs\Adobe\
There must be log files for the PSE 8 installer. Delete them once and then
try to install PSE 8 again, if you are not able to then attach the newly
created log files in the forum.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • IMac suddenly has no audio except system audio.

    Very odd.
I have no audio for movies, music, youtube etc, but I have system audio sounds like mail, trash emptying and those kinds of things.
I have tried rebooting and double checking connections.
It's almost like some driver or file has disappeared.
I do have an up to date Time Machine, so if anyone could tell me what to restore I'll try that.
    Thanks!
    Korky

OK, I've now got the audio device back on Device Manager, by updating the BIOS - it detected the  hardware change.
It's listed as Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus.
It finds the driver from Windows Update but won't install the driver, though. It fails before completing.
When I try and update the driver I get a similar error - saying that there is an I/O error.
Does anyone know how I fix this?
The tech support guy I spoke to suggested I go straight to doing a reinstall of Windows. Any softer/less painful options likely to work?

  • At a complete loss. Worried data is gone for good. Trying to fix disk by booting Disk Utility from installation DVD but disk ejects. Help!

    Hello Comunity,
I'm at a complete loss and I hope you could help me.
The machine I have is I believe an early 2006 iMac model. (Model identifier 4,1 if I recall correctly).
Awhile ago I installed Snow Leopard on the machine but have since begun encountering serious problems (but I think it's due to the hardware and it's age rather than the software, Snow Leo was running smoothly) and now the computer won't start - I'm faced with a grey screen and a flashing folder with a question mark on it. I tried booting using the various key combinations and as I understood it, my last resort at fixing it myself would be using Disk Utility on the installation DVD.
    This is what happens:
I boot the computer, insert the disk, press down and hold C (also tried Option). I hear the computer trying to read the disk, but after a considerable aount of time holding down the key and a grey screen, the disk ejects and the flashing folder returns.
Could anyone offer an insight or advice?
At this point I'm not even that interested in fixing the machine, but there are some extremely valuable files that I need to recover (the machine gave out just days before I got my extrenal HDD to back them up).
I'm worried about taking the machine down to the Genius Bar - I'm a completely self-supporting student and I imagine the recovery cost would be huge (if anyone could provide any information on the potential cost of the repair and/or recovery that would help).

One thing to try without needing the install disk: reboot holding down cmd-S. It should reboot to a black screen and text prompt. Type the following, with spacing exactly as shown, hit the return key after each line:
    mount -uw /
    fsck -fy
    Then type
    reboot
    and see if that helps.
Do you have any other Macs in the household (or cna use a friend's) that you can try connecting to it with a Firewire cable? If so, reboot the iMac holding down T, you should see a large Firewire symbol moving across the screen. Connecting to another Mac with a FW cable will show you the iMac's hard drive mounted to the other Mac's desktop.
You can also try Diskwarrior, which fixes drive filestructure problems. It's around $100.
Professional data recovery cost would depend on a) whether the hard drive is actually at fault, b) if it's physically damaged or just has a filestructure problem. A physically damaged drive can go into the thousands of dollars for data recovery; a drive with filestructure issues usually costs a lot less to recover files.

  • 10.6.2, iShowU 1.75, Soundflower 1.5.1 are not compatible - no system audio

Ever since upgrading to 10.6.2, the system audio features of ishowu no longer function. soundflower works properly but it seems that 10.6.2 does not let other applications switch/utilize soundflower in their apps. I was on a troubleshooting call with ishowu personnel and the problem was narrowed down to the Snow Leopard. All worked well in Leopard and Tiger but now problems. Apple is really going downhill with the launch with many issues.

Thanks. I had tried that previously and its not a soundflower problem. It seems that the new version of Snow Leopard does not provide the switch to allow 3rd party software to communicate with the sound system preferences. This was not a problem with earlier versions of Mac OS and seems to be a bug that was introduced with Snow Leopard. Mac will only survive if it moves forward with max compatibility with 3rd party software producers.

  • Entire System Audio mutes randomly while working in Premiere

    Hi everyone
Just recently switched over to Premiere Pro CS6 at my office. I'm an editor for a web video production company and so far I've been having quite a few problems with Premiere.
The biggest issue is that randomly, maybe 10 times a day, the audio for my entire system will drop out while editing in Premiere. At first I was resorting to doing full restarts of my computer and the problem would fix itself, but now I've discovered that if I go into "Activity Monitor," search for "coreaudiod" and then force restart that activity, the audio will reset itself for the system, but not Premiere. I still have to then restart premiere to get the audio working again in my project.
I've seen other people mention similar issues but I have yet to find a solution. Can anyone help? Thanks so much.
    Here are my computer specs:
    iMac
    27-inch, Mid 2011
Processor  3.1 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b)
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
    v. 6.0.2

I've worked on two projects so far and it's happened both times. The first project was using ProRes source footage and then outside video assets were brought in that were H264.
Now I'm working on a project that is using Canon DSLR H.264 native footage and video assets that are in H264 and a few that are XDCAM EX.
Also using many still images but it seems as though it will happen randomly when I load a video clip into the Source window. The video clip will play with audio in the source monitor, but then when I bring it into the timeline this is when the entire system audio will drop out and mute entirely.

  • System Audio Capture - Won't Work

    Hello all,
I'm trying to capture my system audio and I cannot get Cp8 to do just that. I'm running the most recent version of Cp8 on my MBP OS X 10.9.5. I open a new video demo, with system audio selected, with or without a mic. The mic will capture just fine, no system audio.
I have a request to capture some Skype interview and Tuesday, any help will be great!
    Thank you in advance

    Hi there,
Have you tried configuring 'Soundflower' audio driver? . Please refer to the below link for more information.

    Thanks,

  • Captivate 7 is not capturing system audio, and the software has a broken link

    The Problem:
Captivate 7 is not capturing system audio. When I start a screen recording, the line with "System Audio" and its checkbox are eternally grayed out. Next to the grayed out words is a link that says, "Why is this disabled?"
    The lnik goes to:  http://www.adobe.com/go/cpaudio
Which is not a valid link, so Adobe's site redirects me to blogs.adoble.com/captivate which is ZERO help. Both browsing and the search bar bring no answers.
    The Device:
Apple Macbook Air, Mid 2013, running OSX 10.9.2.
    What I've done already:
Obvsiously I have set Captivate 7's preferences to capture system audio, and have set System Settings -> Security and Privacy -> Privacy -> Accessibility to allow Captivate to control my computer.
I have also tried clicking the Mic icon, Selecting Source with the System Audio icon and that doesn't record system audio either. It acts like it is recording system audio, but when I stop recording I get a popup that says, "Cannot record system audio. Ensure that you are playing audio on your computer [Okay]"

    It's a wierd one.
One thing to try, and this fixes a lot of things, trash your preferences.

  • Second System Audio

Okay, so I edited my movie using the camera audio. But we actually shot second system audio along with the camera audio (ran the mic to both the camera and a hard drive audio recorder). The video is locked. No more video editing. Unfortunately, I didn't have the second system audio in my hands before video editing needed to get started.
So, does anyone know of some simplified, not horribly time-consuming, method for replacing the camera audio with the second system audio? And, of course, keeping it in sync.

FYI, it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be or people made it sound. Whole process took me 3 hours and a chunk of that was spent trying to figure out which track was from the second system audio vs the camera audio. Once the clips were merged, there wasn't really a way to tell just by looking at them. Another chunk was spent putting in some room tone and tweaking things.
I just merged the audio to the video. Put it in a garbage sequence. Set my in and out points to match the original edit. Copied over the new audio track to where the old had been. Boom. Done. FCP even knew if I messed it up and the new audio was out of sync with the video and displayed the + or - # of frames.
As for bad planning, it wasn't. The camera doesn't do time code. Period. There was no option to have any and it wasn't needed. The only thing I suppose we could have planned better was not having our audio guy suddenly having to go to the mideast for 3 months. Then we would've merged the audio and video up front. Probably would've been zero time savings when you consider that you'd merge takes you wouldn't ultimately use.
Just thought I'd put it out there for anyone else who may need to know.

  • Non-Apple Keyboard: any way to control system audio volume?

I have a non-Apple Keyboard on my new Mini Lion 7.2.1
Is there any way to control system audio volume via the keyboard ?

Well. I can do this. But just because, on my Apple keyboard, there are the keys that do the job. There's a key to mute, and the keys to adjust low and high the sound. But keyboard shortcuts, I don't think exist. The aren't in keyboard shortcut in Keyboard panel, within System Preferences. The bottom line is that isn't a menu item in Finder for lower sound and higher sound. The only option would be an AppleScript that you save as an applet within Scripts menu (activated in Finder via Script Editor) and you invoke with a shortcut... Well, you can do it, if you open the script Set Output Volume in UI Elements Script folder within Scripts folder. Try it out!
