I need Help Uninstalling Lion Server thanks

You can't uninstall it without wiping the boot volume, but you can disable it.

  • Removing OSX Lion Server from Mac Mini Server (Mid 2011)

    Hello, fellow apple fanboys!
I was wondering if anybody knew the sollution to my problem. I have recently purchased the Mac Mini Server, the mid 2011 model, and I wanted to replace the server edition of Lion with the standard one. However, when I plug in my lion installation thumbdrive the system just displays a stop sign, meaning that I cannot boot from it. I was wondering if I could just wipe the Server HD and reinstall standard Lion OS on it.

I have the 2011 Mini Server and all I did was just not enable
any server functions.  It works just fine.  Unlike previous
versions of OSX, the server is an add on to the OS and
not intertwined with the OS.  So, my suggestion is don't
bother.  Just isn't worth the time.
As to why the thumbdrive doesn't work, it is probably a version
that is older than what the Mini was shipped with.  This is not
anything new as this is the way OSX has always been.

  • Lion Server, SL Client - list of users not displaying - only 'other'

    #1
So I've been running a SL Server at home without (many!) problems. All SL clients connected to server just fine and you always got a list of users to log in from (as you'd expect).
However, installed Lion Server from scratch on a my Mini Server (again without too much problems). All my client Macs (Macbook Air, Macbook, iMac - all core2duo etc) have been upgraded to Lion as well and they're all fine. You get a list of possible users to log on to - which is fine.
However, I have one core duo (white) 2.0Ghz iMac which (obviously) is remaining with Snow Leopard client but does not display a list of users -- just Admin and 'Other. I've triped check the settings and bearing mind this was ok with SL Server, I can't figure out why this is. I even re-installed SL client on said iMac and I still get no list of users.
I can log into the server using 'Other' i.e. specifiy full user name and password, so I know it is connecting to the lion server
So I am confused as to whether its a Client or Server problem (I presume server) -- any ideas?
    #2
Less of a serious problem, I am still getting the old (SL server) welcome message on all my Lion Clients logon screen (i.e. on the list of users) - how can this be if the 'welcome to snow leopard server' has been completely erased with Lion server? (I assumed the message was stored in pram but again, zapping it, does not change it)  I can't find in Lion server to config the welcome message either. Maybe zapping Pram of server? any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
    Rob

    Hi
Managed Preferences are composited (combined) together and cached locally on client workstations. These are stored in /Library/Managed Preferences. Remove the folder and restart the workstation. Hopefully on next client login this should pick up what you've defined for MCX at User, Computer and Group level.
For your other problem on the 10.6 workstation issue these commands:
    sudo rm -R -v /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    sudo rm -R -v /Library/Preferences/DirectoryService
    sudo rm -R -v /Library/Preferences/edu.mit.Kerberos
    sudo rm -R -v /Library/Managed\ Preferences
    sudo rm -R -v /Library/Caches/*
    sudo rm -R -v /private/tmp/*
    sudo reboot now
On successful reboot login as the local administrator and assign the workstation an appropriate name in the Sharing Preferences Pane. Make sure it's using the same NTP Server as your Server and then join it to the LDAP Server using the Accounts Preferences Pane > Login Options > Join. Hopefully this should get things back on track.
    HTH?

  • OSX Lion Server - Mail Server All Mail Lost

    Hi
    Can anyone help.
I opened my mail client and found a blank mail box.  It appears that all of my mail that I host on Lion Server has just vanished.  I checked it via my iPhone 30 minutes prior to accessing the mail.app on my imac and all of my mail was visible.  I then checked on my iPhone and slowly watched my mailbox contents vanish on my iPhone.
I'm at a loss as to what has happened and I can retrieve the email via a backup I did a day ago; however I have had some important mail since then and I appear to have lost them.
I'm truly finding OSX Lion Server to be a real pain where as Snow Leopard Server worked pretty well.
If anyone can assist I'd be really grateful.
    Thank you

    Thanks Colin
No one has been able to help so far in the Lion Server forums.  I've logged a call with Apple but so far they have not been able to help.
I've now completely shutdown all Lion Server Services and loaded up Microsoft Exchange in a VM.  Obviously a tad more expensive but Exchange is a far more mature and stable product.

  • How do I remove Mountain Lion and reinstate the original server OS

I have upgraded to Mountain Lion on my MacBook Air, the problem was that my Mac mini showed it available on the apps store, which I then (Stupidly) downloaded. Can anyone tell me know how to turn back time and remove Mountain Lion from my Mac mini and reinstate the server OS as now the server will not operate correctly. - HELP!

    pforkes wrote:
I want to do a completely clean install of Mountain Lion.
I had Snow Leopard installed, upgraded to Mountain Lion (by buying it from the App Store) but how do I tell it to format the drive and then install Mountain Lion?
Snow Leopard would have needed to be installed on a properly formatted drive, so I don't understand why you would need to format it again to that same format.
    Cheers

  • Unable to add/remove users in Mountain Lion Server (Options are greyed out)

For some reason, im unable to add/remove users in Mountain Lion server. The + and - are greyed out. It seems like something is wrong with the permissons because it looks like it cant write the the Ldav3 file (although that may be speculation). Does anyone have any advice for me? I URGENTLY need to add users.
Maybe theres a way to restore default permssions for the boot drive (if that in fact is the issue). Hopefully there is a way that I can fix this while leaving all users, groups, their permissions and shares intact.

Anything interesting and relevent in the server logs?
Anything interesting in the server alerts?
Since it's far and away the most common cause of problems with OS X Server and with distributed authentication (Open Directory is entirely based on network encryption and digital certificates and on responses from your local DNS server(s)), verify your local DNS configuration is working and requires no changes with the following Terminal.app (Applications > Utilities) harmless, diagnostic command:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
sudo requires an administrative password.  You might get a one-time warning about the sudo, and that can safely be ignored.  The command will display some details, and indicate whether the local configuration appears valid and no changes are required, or further diagnostics for (most) common errors that can arise.

  • Removing Exchange 2007 from SBS 2008 (In an Exchange 2010 Coexistance Scenario) - In order to remove 2007 Mailbox Objects from Active Directory and remove the SBS2008 server completely

I'm trying to remove Exchange 2007 from an SBS 2008 server
(Server 2008 Standard FE).  My ultimate goal is to completely remove the SBS 2008 Server from the network environment.
We have an Exchange 2010 Coexistence Scenario and Mailboxes/Public Folders/etc have been moved over to the 2010 mail server, on Server 2008 R2.
I have moved all Shares, FSMO roles, DHCP, DNS, etc over to their respective servers.  We have two full blown DC's in the environment.
I'm ready to remove Exchange 2007 from SBS 2008 and DCPROMO the server.  I can NOT seem to find a TechNet article that shows me how
to proceed in this kind of scenario.  I am trying to use the TechNet article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd728003(v=ws.10).aspx
This article references Disabling Mailboxes, Removing OAB, Removing Public Folder Databases, then uninstalling Exchange using the Setup Wizard.
When I go to Disable Mailboxes I get the following error:
    Microsoft Exchange Error
Action 'Disable' could not be performed on object 'Username (edited)'.
    Username (edited)
    Failed
    Error:
Object cannot be saved because its ExchangeVersion property is 0.10 (14.0.100.0), which is not supported by the current version 0.1 (8.0.535.0). You will need a later version of Exchange.
    OK
I really don't see why I need to Disable Mailboxes, Remove OAB and Public Folder Databases since they have been moved to 2010.  I just want
to remove Exchange 2007 and DCPROMO this server (actually I just want to remove any lingering Exchange AD Objects referring to the SBS 2008 Server, using the easiest and cleanest method possible).
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Based on your description, it seems that you are in a migration process (migrate SBS 2008 to Windows Server
2008 R2). Now, you want to remove Exchange Server and demote server. If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
On current situation, please refer to following articles and check if can help you.

  • How do I completely remove Azure from my Windows Essentials 2012 Server?

What is the procedure for completely removing Azure from my server?
The trial was unsuccessful and response from Microsoft Azure support to my emails non-existent.
But I still get occasional alerts telling me an Azure backup has failed even though I have stopped the schedule.
I would just like to clean it from my system.
    Any advice please?

    Hi,
Do you mean you would like to remove Azure Backup Agent?
If so you can remove it in Control Panel:
Press the Windows logo key + Q to open the Apps menu, and then click Control Panel.
Under the Programs item, click Uninstall a program.
In Uninstall or change a program, click Azure Backup Agent.

If you have got a backup, press Command and R keys in boot and restore an old backup. You can install Snow Leopard and upgrade to Lion if you haven't got the backup

  • Mp_statusreceiver directory over 50GB - MP has been removed from this server, but not completely?

I had a server run out of disk space today.  Digging in, the ccm mp_statusreceiver directory had 650,000 files in it, over 50GB in size.  From what I understand, I think that folder is queuing up messages to go from a management point to the primary
server, but the server in question had it's management point removed a couple of weeks ago.  It seems like it's still gathering data to send, but not sending it to the primary server, and filling up the drive.
If that's the case, then it seems the management point didn't actually get removed from the server, even though it's no longer listed in the config manager console as a management point.  (The server still has a DP on it.)
How can I clean up whatever remnants of the MP are installed on this server?

    Hi,
Yes, you need a path for mp.msi. I saw that is located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\bin\X64.

  • How to completely remove an Exchange 5.5 Server from a Windows 2003 domain?

I have recently inherited an environment that had a legacy Exchange 5.5 server in it.    I have migrated all mailboxes over to Office365, so there is no need for the Exchange Server anymore, but I don't have the Exchange 5.5 install media
to perform the uninstall from the domain.
Is there a way to manually remove the Exchange Server off the domain, and remove all its AD objects?

I just realized that this Exchange 5.5 Server is running on Windows 2000 Server, with an Active Directory Connector installed tying it to a single Windows 2003 Standard Active Directory Server.   Therefore the Exchange Server shows up in Sites
and Services as an AD server within my single site and forest.   This is also keeping my AD forest level at a Windows 2000 level, rather than at Windows 2003 native.
If I simply uninstall the ADC from the Windows 2000 Server running Exchange 5.5, will that remove the server from the Sites and Services and allow me to promote the Forest Functional Level to Windows 2003, so that I can then migrate the entire AD domain
up to 2012 functional levels in the near future?

  • What to do when SLS - Lion Server Upgrade & Migration Fail

    Hi everyone,
I've had a tough time over the past week trying to updating my SLS to LS. (It was a slow week at the office so despite the warnings in these discussions I wasn't disturbing anyone, so I thought I'd try...) Both an upgrade to the current running system and a clean install on a wipe of that hard drive stall at the "Configuring Services" "Upgrading services" screen of the set up process. The migration path eventually fails, and as far as I can tell, it seems that the upgrade path just stays there forever.
Don't worry - I'm doing this all on a Super Duper! clone of my primary drive, so I can go back to SLS whenever I need to.
BUT, I can tell that the server's status is at least partially okay, even in this stalled setup state - iChat seems to work on various clients, and I can use Server Admin to see stats and services, etc.
So despite the discomfort of a failed install, part of me feels like I'll be fine with the LS if I can just figure out how to move my old data into the right places for the new system to use it. But I can't find any guidance for that. I'm looking to migrate OD (seems to have migrated fine), iCal, iChat, Address Book, Wikis, Time Machine, and File Sharing (which should be trivial to set up, I reckon).
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks very much,
    Willhaus

Okay, so I've had some marginal success.
After leaving the hung install for a ridiculous amount of time (24+ hours), I realized that I could click the help button, and from the help window click the "further info about Lion Server" link to launch Safari. That gave me access to Software Update from the Apple menu, which then let me install the latest Safari update which conveniently enough requires a restart.
After restart, the Server Migration Assistant kicked in again, but failed quickly in the upgrading services stage. Another restart, and the sever finally booted more or less normally.
The strange thing was that although chat services worked fine during the hung install, all OD-related services stopped working after restarting. Turns out there were no users or groups in OD. Importing them from an OD archive, though, restored them.
So now iChat works great (even the old chat longs migrated successfully), and AFP is properly sharing our volumes across our studio's network. So our server is limping along.
The other services we need that aren't up yet are Wiki and iCal. Some info about those:
Wiki: administrators can log in and see all wikis just fine. That's awesome because it means the data migrated successfully. Any non-admin users can log in, but are then get a wiki-styled page that says simply "No wikis found". It's as if they don't have permissions to see the wikis, even though in Server.app they belong to the groups that the wikis are associated with. I've tried removing and re-adding users to groups, but that doesn't seem to do it. Any ideas how to fix this?
Calendar: While I can't get this to work, it's not like it's completely lifeless. An account in a client Lion iCal configured with the proper Lion settings returns an error that reads:
"The Server is Busy or Unavailable.
"The server at myserver.com is currently unable to handle the connection for account “ Calendars” due to a temporary overloading or maintenance of the server. If this continues you should contact the server administrator.
"You may try to connect to the server again or take the account offline."
As a logged in administrator, in a wiki clicking on Calendar in the nab bar goes to the calendar style page with an unending dialogue box that reads "Getting events from server". And clicking on Calendar from Home page footer takes me to the URL https://myserver.com/webcal with an error that says:
    "Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
    Apache/2.2.20 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.20 OpenSSL/0.9.8r DAV/2 Server at myserver.com Port 443"
Again, at least I'm confident that the data migrated properly -  I can find all the calendar data in it's proper new location - but either the service won't start or something's not configured correctly. I've tried chaining the hostname and restarting the service about a billion times. I've got no idea what to try next. Any ideas?
    Thank you so much,
    Willhaus
