Completely and utterly dead?

About a month ago, my PB G4's cord stopped working properly--it was only today that the new one arrived. Maybe I should have shut the PB G4 down properly, but I didn't think and I allowed it to die. Today I plugged in the new cord--a third party adapter, so no helpful lights--but the cord and the area it plugs into on the computer feel warm to the touch after a little while, so I know electricity is at least moving around. However... Absolutely nothing happens. No response if I press to power button. No response if I press shift + control + power button, no response when I press the battery button on the bottom--it doesn't do anything but behave like a brick. I also tried removing and putting the battery back in again (no way I can afford a new battery).
This particular computer used to overheat sometimes--but it had not done it in a while--so I'm concerned about just leaving it to charge for a long time and trying again.
Suggestions? No way it's just dead like that, right?

Here's how to do a PMU reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431 . If that doesn't do it, what wattage is the replacement power adapter you got?

PSU is working just fine. The screen will not turn over, unresponsive to touch controls and no LED status light on this.
Im thinking display board, unless anyone can help out with a suggestion?

I think you're right. Check the brick first. If not, one of the boards is dead. The voltage regulators on the main board are famous for failing due to heat fatigue. You can't get parts for it. You could try to take it to an Apple store for diagnosis. The most cost effective option is to buy a non Apple replacement monitor. I loved mine but I just don't trust Apple quality in their monitors and I don't want the mini displayport hassles (like the old ACD connector.)

what kind of nightmare did I get myself involved with? Somebody told me how great Verizon was, so I switched from Time Warner cable. The installation guy leaves without setting up my email, saying I can call and they'll talk me through it. First call: half hour wait, guy knew nothing, said to reboot. Naturally, it didn't work. NEXT CALL: WAIT TIME 50 MINUTES. I hung up. And then I called back, pressing numbers at random, trying to find an ACTUAL HUMAN BEING so I can tell them to cancel my FREAKIN" account and pretend I'd never called their sorry excuses for human beings. NOTHING. I should call back when they've got a lower call volume. Oh, and they close at 8!
My email doesn't work. I can't send or receive email. I can see the topics of my old email, from Earthlink, but I can't see the bodies because it says I have to be online to fetch them from the servers.
So, sixty bucks more a month for this COMPLETE **bleep**? No. No. No.
CANCEL ME. Please, somebody tell me how to cancel. NOW. FOREVER.

Complete and utter newbie

I'll try my best to not cop an attitude but this is my first i anything and already I'm frustrated.
My wife got me an ipod Nano for my birthday, which generation is anybodies guess. Just purchased it at Best Buy with all the required equipment, to include a plug in power adapter.
My first problem(s) is/are I plugged in the adapter into the Nano, then plugged the adapter into a 110 electric plug. I never saw any of the screens that the owners manual indicates I would see. I had no idea if it was charging because the battery screen was not displayed. I left it plugged in for about 5 hours to be sure it was powered up sufficiently. Now I cannot unplug the end of the adapter that plugs into the Nano. I mean, I'm really pulling, and its not moving. Is it really supposed to take this kind of effort to unplug the thing? I'm really afraid of breaking it. Is this typical?

So now I've got the thing plugged into my PC and there is no battery screen. The screen it is displaying is the "connected" screen and I cant navigate away from it. I just want to make sure that the initial charge was a full charge but I cant get to a battery screen.
Also will this work with other media players other than iTunes?

BOTH my Airport extreme AND Express just stopped working. Specifically, I mean that I cannot get on either of them with my Powerbook. I have an ethernet connection to the extreme, but the Powerbook doesn't read it. I have had no significanrt problems in the past. I have tried everything. Powered down, reset, etc. etc. My Powerbook is ok connecting through direct ethernet, and piggybacking on a neighbor's WiFi, so I know it isn't the Powerbook. But, for some strange reason, it can't read either of my WiFis. I have tested the express, and I have the same problem.
Kinda wondering if this is a malicious virus thaty has cropped up.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. As to downgrading firmware, I can't even do that since the installer is unable to read Airport.

Been having similar issues. just setup my AX and ever since had intermittent problems. At first, I could not get a signal from either my Extreme or AX. Both BTW are plugged directly into my router. However, from my G5 hardwired computer I COULD access and configure both in the Admin utility. Finally figured out that my Exremem station was setup to "Distribute IP Addresses" which was a bad thing. Turned that off and PRESTO!
However, after 3 straight days of everything working, both my wireless computers (both macs) can no longer see WITHER base station. I CAN access both via the Amin on my G5 hardwired computer and can cinfig all I want. After many restarts and updates I cannot get any signal from either station. I am stumped and am tired of the late nights trying to fix the issue! I am not sure if my new AX is causing the probs or what...

So, I've just advanced from Premiere(elements) and got After Effects CS5. I installed it and imported some video onto it and I have no clue what's going on. The video seems to be playing in slow motion and there is no audio. I have looked at a few tutorials and none of them address this problem. Help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Please read the help! You are mistaking AE for an editing program, which it isn't. Very little in AE is realtime. It is all handled via creating RAM previews. Here's a bit to get you started, but really do read the help and the rest of the FAQ sub-forum.

Complete and Utter Meltdown

I have a 3rd Gen iPod which is clearly covered by the Class-Action Suit (it dies after about 3 hours max, if not less). However, because the resolution of that is being held up, I'm having to make do with my present one, which is getting less and less functional as time goes on. When I try to use it, it works for maybe those three hours, and that's if I don't try to change songs myself at all. Today was the last straw; I tried to use it and found that it had somehow erased all of my music. Okay, strange, but certainly only a minor inconvenience, right? Just put it back. Well, the problem is that putting songs on it drains its battery so drastically that it can literally only download songs for about two-three minutes before dying. And when I charge it, it's lost all but a few of the ones it got in that time. It looks like there's no hope for the poor thing, but I want to make sure. Should putting songs on my iPod drain its battery really fast? Is there anything I can do to be able to use my iPod again?

Fiction: How come when I use USB or Firewire to recharge my iPod, I have battery problems? My battery must be defective.
Fact: For best results, try not to use computer ports to charge your iPod. USB is especially sensitive to how many devices are on it and what the resulting bus voltage is. It may even display the charging icon but not be adding much to the battery. USB versions prior to 2.0 will not charge your iPod (and probably be too slow for its other functions). Even USB 2.0 is limited to 700 milliamps and an iPod "likes" to see one full amp for charging, plus some to spin the HD while mounted. Some (early) iPod models will not charge from USB, period. Some PCs use 4-pin Firewire cables (all Macs are 6-pin) which carry no charging voltage, so they won't work at all for recharging and can allow your iPod to run down and cause serious problems while updating firmware, restoring, or loading songs. Both USB and Firewire require the iPod to be mounted by your computer as an external drive, which means the iPod's HD is spinning, using some of the juice that the battery might like to have. And if the computer sleeps or is turned off, the battery won't charge and in some cases will actually drain through the port circuits. Bottom line: if your ports are not doing a good job of charging your battery, use the wall adapter to charge for several cycles before questioning the battery's credentials. If you have a new iPod which only comes with USB, don't panic; it can work fine. But if you do experience problems, either take everything else off the USB bus (except mouse & keyboard) and/or get an AC adapter.

Complete and utter Apple meltdown !!

I'm really stuck and the local Apple reseller is not much help.
I have the following:
IMac
2 x Old Apple TV's
Time Machine
Macbook
The problem is that the start up disk on the IMac is full, the misses has wedged it full of thousands of photos and soooooooo much music and videos in Itunes. I bought the Time Machine in the hope that i could move the photos and Itunes content to the Time Machine, couldnt work out how to do it because im and idiot and the local Apple reseller couldnt help either and was not really interested.
Is there anything that any of you guys can recommend that will get all of this rubbish off the Imac and onto the Time Capsule so that the Imac works again without buckling under the strain but can still access Itunes and the photos from the Time Capsule.
Please help, at the moment i feel like throwing the Time Capsule through the window.

Backup to time capsule and then erase content from HDD. But inderstand one thing; at the point your Time Capsule drive becomes full, that disk image could be deleted so making a secondary backup later might be a good idea.
However, I have 2 TB Time Capsule and have been using more than a year and still have about 1.3TB free so above is not really a big concern unless you are going to fill it close to capacity in a hurry.
I also got pretty frustrated my first use because setting up the account seems a but buggy, but once I got it set-up, the initial image copied (about 3 hours in my case). I deleted massive quantities of junk and disk really speeded-up.
What I really like is now I can go back to a specific file in an image and restore that.
That said, I am a paranoid idiot and have a 2TB Passport with the same stuff (origical back-up) on it, just not very user friendly once you get it on. I really like that time capsule does the back-up in the background, this is the main advantage in my viewpoint.

I know how to disable it for network directories. I just do not want to have it completely. Is it possible?

There have been complains that Windows implemenation doesn't work well. If i recall, Windows forgets settings alot.
It's not perfect. It does work well for single user systems. Like files on flash drives.
What is the problem you are experiencing with .ds_store files?

Phone line and broadband dead, tearing my hair out...

Can a mod help here please. My phone line went dead yesterday, just as my neighbour had a fault fixed. This is not the first time this has happened. Spoke to 3 different people in India on 3 separate occasions last night, but unable to get any sense out of them. One promised to call back but never did. Another insisted on changing my BT Internet password for some reason. Completely and utterly useless. I eventually spoke to someone who described himself as a senior supervisor who promised to look into the matter of speeding up an engineers visit (been told Tuesday which is just redicuous) and said he would call immediately after he arrived for work at 11.00 am UK time. Still waiting!

Mate, I used to work in the Call Centre for BT (Repair) then out in the field as an Engineer for some time.
What they told you is basically **bleep**, they're fobbing you off. For a start the majority of Exchanges aren't manned. Engineers just come/go when they need to run a frames jumper or change/alter the switching.
Even then the exchanges that are manned are certainly not by anyone who can prioritise your fault repair.

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.

Press the button at the top right and the home button together for 30 seconds, when you see the apple logo, let them go.
if you see a picture of the itunes symbol and a whitye usb chord then connect the device to a computer and perform a restore.

I am on windows 7 and I upgraded to 10.0.2 and now it will not open. I have removed firefox completely and uploaded it again and that did not work. So my latest attempt I removed firefox 10 again and uploaded the beta version and once again nothing.

I think when uninstalling you may also have to choose (tick) to delete the preferences and other personal data like the bookmarks, stored passwords etc. to erase completely. If you are installing afresh, please try right-clicking on the file and '''Run as administrator''' to install. And when uninstalling, please also make sure choose to delete all data and also manually delete any '''Mozilla''', '''Mozilla Firefox''' or '''Firefox''' from %appdata%, %localappdata% and %programfiles%. You can open a location by typing for eg. %appdata% in the '''Run''' box (Windows key + R). You may also have to check the '''VirtualStore''' folder in %localappdata%. Files in the VirtualStore can be problematic. I think a clean installation may help.

My messenger not working properly on my iPhone 6 freezes completely and I miss all my texts just not working. anyone else having this issue?

I have already swapped this phone out once for a new I phone 6. First one I was having same issues with.
Now I got the new one and it was good for about a month and now its doing it to but worse. It freezes completely.
Won't let any of my text messages get through to me. All my messages disappear completely and randomly come back when they feel like it.
This time its frozen where I can't even read any texts or get any texts and when I click on the messenger app it just goes to the NEW MESSAGE and won't let me get out of this screen. Should I once again take this back? or are all the iPhone 6's bad like this?

It's not the iphones, it's more likely one or more of your programs causing this issue. It's not the iPhone 6's. The possibility of you getting 2 bad iphones from different batches is extremely remote or you have the worst luck on the planet. lol If one iPhone has it, then you get a new one and the same problem comes up again, it's most likely due to an issue with a program that you keep getting back from restoring an old backup. Restore the iphone again and set up as a new iphone. Then manually import your music and your photos. Once that's done, try to use your iphone to see if everything is ok. If it works good for a few days, then try to add some of the apps. At some point, you'll end up loading the malicious app and the problem may come back. Make sure that the apps are all updated. If you still have problems, call Apple so that they can run a diagnostic report and find out which app is causing this issue. Then you can simply delete it and/or update the app. More solutions are available but that's all I will post for now.

Right after that, the iPod shut down completely and now it's on recovery mode. I plugged it in and it said that I had to restore it and update it so I could use it again but it doesn't let me. What happens when you connect to computer and restore via iTunes?
Without knowing that:
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
