Completely blank window on Mac OSX 10

Recently the desktop client has stopped working for me entirely. The window is completely blank. No text whatsoever other than the identifying "Spotify" text at the top of the window. I don't know if this is related to an OSX update or not because I don't use the desktop client very frequently and only just noticed it. I've tried wiping the system of it (including the app itself, the caches and application support files) to no avail. Clean wipe and reinstall resulted in this same black screen (screencap attached). Preferences is grayed out so I can't access that to make changes either like some posts suggested. Advice?

I did, no thanks to Spotify's tech support! I communicated back and forth with their twitter account for a week or so and they couldn't resolve it for me, so I actually gave up on it for a while. Then recently I decided to try again, and figured out the solution (for me, anyway). Apparently the issue was related to the login items I had set on my Mac. Spotify was one of them, and once I deleted it from those items, and then did the clean reinstall, it has worked fine since. Go to System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Login Items and click Spotify, and then hit the minus button to fully remove it from the list. Just unchecking it only hides Spotify at startup, you want to make it so it does not open at all at startup. Doing this, followed by the recommended clean wipe (deleting caches, preferences, etc. along with the application itself) and then reinstalling did the trick for me. I hope it solves your problem too!

  • Is there a way to change the look (skins) of your windows on Mac OSX?

    hello,
I'm new to the whole mac thing. I don't own one yet, but I hope to soon. But I've wondered if there was a way to changed the look of the windows on Mac OSX. Sorta like using WindowsBlinds from StarDock on the PC? With WindowBlind I can make my windows resemeble OSX or BeOS, Linux, or anything that the skin designers choose (windowsblinds.net).
Is there a similar program for OSX?
    Thanks,

i am sure that there will be specific handling for both of these os, but at the same time there could lot of code can be same.
is it possible to fulfill requirements of both these OS's through single code base. As of now i am more experienced with Dotnet C# on windows.

  • Can't open my .psd file using CS4 windows XP & Mac OSX

I am using photoshop CS4 on windows XP I cannot open my file. the message reads: Could not complete your request because the version is not compatible with this version of photoshop.
I did open the file on my mac OSX CS4 as well to try to use some of the fonts installed there. Now the file will not open on either platform. Are there known issues with crossing platforms? I believe the files were always universal before?

    There is normally no problem.
You failed to mention what format the file had.
If fonts are missing, it should still open with an error message about the font.

  • IPod OK on windows XP, Mac OSX, but not Vista

Just got a new (refurbished) 5th gen ipod 30G. It syncs fine to my mac OSX laptop. It also syncs fine (after restoring) to my Windows XP laptop.
But when I connect it to my windows Vista (the preferred laptop per the primary user of this iPod) it will mount in the OS and show up as a removable drive (F:) and I can click on the drive and see the default directories.
When I launch iTunes, I wait about 5 minutes then I get an error "iPod found but the name is not recognized. Try disconnecting the iPod and reconnecting" and it never shows up in iTunes.
I did get it to show up once in iTunes, and tried to do a restore, but after the restore ran for a while, it gave an error "iPod could not be updated. Device can not be read from or written to" (error paraphrased) and gave an error code 1437, I think.
I've tried restoring it on each of the OSX and WinXP machines before trying to connect to the Vista machine, but I get the same results each time.
All the messages I can find say that 5th gen iPods should work fine with Windows Vista but mine isn't working...

That sounds odd that one Windows OS is working, but the other is not.  Is there anything in your logic that could change the view states of these controls?  If you'd like, I'd be willing to also take a look.  Feel free to send your project or installer to [email protected] and I'll try on my systems.

  • When dual-booting with Windows 7, Mac OSX time settings reset every reboot.

I have recently installed Windows 7 Professional on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro via BootCamp (Running Mavericks BTW). Everything runs grean and have not experienced any problems on the Windows side, but I have a problem with Mac OSX now. When I am using Windows 7, and I reboot into Mac OSX, I find that my time settings are wrong. It seems like my time zone has changed, because the date is correct, as well as the minutes, but the hour is always wrong. When I go to Date & Time in System Preferences, and my time zone is correct, but I still have to chage the hour in the time. Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to stop it would be greatly appreciated.

If you dual boot your Windows PC with OS X or Linux, you may have experienced a problem in which your clocks reset themselves incorrectly every time you boot into Windows. Here's a simple registry edit to fix that.
Essentially, the incorrect clock setting happens because OS X and Linux use GMT time while Windows tries to synchronize with your local time zone, getting confused when you reboot between the two. Apple's own Boot Camp drivers for Windows are supposed to fix this problem, though some users have noticed that it still happens even with the drivers installed, and some Linux users are left out in the cold. Furthermore, if you have a Hackintosh, you can't install the Boot Camp drivers, so you'll need to find another way around the problem.
To fix it, just hit Start and type regedit.exe in the search box. Hit Enter and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation. Right click anywhere in the right pane and hit New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name it RealTimeIsUniversal, then double click on it and give it a value of 1.
Lastly, reboot into OS X, then reboot back into Windows. You should now notice that your clock actually displays the correct time.

  • Can't install windows to mac osx partition!

Hi, I had 2 partitions in my macbook pro, 1 for mac osx and 1 for bootcamp, and I wanted to install mac osx to a firewire hard drive, but i messed it up and installed mac osx OVER the bootcamp partition.
Now I have 2 mac osx partitions on the macbook pro, and can't reformat the partition to reinstall bootcamp.
Is there a way to reformat that partition and reinstall bootcamp (windows)?
    Thanks in advance!

That is why backup should be #1 and last.
You have to return (ie, reformat) your drive probably back to one partition with just Mac OS before you can use Boot Camp Assistant.
While at it, just clone one of your Mac OS volumes over to FW now. Later, with Windows installed, make an image of that (WinClone) while in Mac OS to your FW drive also.

  • HT201240 how to enable account preferences? it just show a blank window. Mac OS X version is 10.6.8

I cannot access account preferences, it only shows a blank window.

Run the OnyX > Verify > Preferences and locate the corrupt .plist file.
    #12 and #13 here
Step by Step to fix your Mac
It should be in your User/Library/Preferences folder, then place it on the Desktop and reboot, the file will be automatically recreated and system preferences accounts should work after that.
    Trash the bad desktop file.
If that doesn't work you will have to log into another Admin user on the machine, to recover your files out of the other user account and then do a #17 to delete and recreate the same user account.
If you don't have another Admin account on the machine, that presents some problems as System Preferences > Accounts is used to create another Admin user on the machine.

  • I'm having an issue on All ADOBE reader/flasher player opening window on Mac OSX Lion

I have tons of error when i'm openning Adobe reader/Adober flash player/Adobe application manager. When i went check out the Library/Adobe appiication support, it's missing and i can't get it to open. What are the solution to make this work. Cause i really wanna to download Adobe photoshop trial install and open it, but i keep on getting error all the time. What can i do to resolve this issue on my mac osx Lion 10.7.5 version? Any suggestion?

Could you try switching back to the PPAPI version of the plugin to see if that helps (reversing the steps outlined in the FAQ below)?  From what we've learned, this only effects the NPAPI version and the PPAPI version should display fonts correctly.

  • Will a Microsoft Office Add-In developed in Visual Studio work for both a Windows and Mac ( osx ) versions of Ms Office?

I want to develop a Microsoft Office Word Add-In for Mac Users. I would like to know if we create it using Visual Studios in windows will it be compatible with the Mac version of office or is there a whole another way to develop for Mac?
Please provide links so that I could follow some guidelines. The http://msdn.microsoft.com/site
doesn't exactly speak of the platform compatibility of the Add-In.
Thank You very Much in Advance.

Office:Mac 2011 only supports add-ins that were developed in VBA. Office:Mac 2008 does not support add-ins at all. A
new version of Office:Mac is slated for release in 2015, there have been no announcements as of this writing (December 2014) whether Microsoft will support additional methods of developing add-ins in the new version of Office:Mac.

  • Edit window lag: Mac OSX

    Hello all:
I'm currently having some issues while running Audition 5.5 on an iMac OSX 10.6 (2.7 GHz Quad core i5 / 4GB). Talked to adobe support [which was comical] and they had no clue what it was. Here's a sample of what is going on:
Zoom is extremely laggy both during playback and while stopped. Scroll in on the waveform and it takes a solid 3 seconds to realize that I want to zoom in. What's worse is if I try to toggle playback while zooming, it's game over. It'll take honestly 4 seconds for it to finally stop playing and glitchily zoom out. I even setup a hardware monitor to log what was going on while doing this and everything was practially idling; CPU, GPU, memory, everything. But Audition was off silently having a heart attack. I tried to adjust some latency settings to see if maybe that was it, but no dice. Walked through some admin steps, deleted prefs, everything except reinstallation with the tech dude but nothing. I'd reinstall, but honestly I don't think that's the issue. There isn't even any lag in the multitrack view. So I'm at a loss.
I guess what I'm looking for is if anyone else has experienced this problem. We've been using 3.0 on our awful PC's with zero issues. It's kind of irritating to have your boss buy this [expensive] software, explaining that it'll be the exact same thing if not better than CS3, only to have it be almost unusable. Any help would be appreciated!
    Reid

    Hi Durin!
Thanks for the reply. Here's what I got:
    - Do you see this problem at ALL zoom levels?  For example, if you open a 10 minute file and are fully zoomed out, are you able to zoom in a few steps without a problem, but once you are zoomed in very tightly, it becomes less manageable?
-Yes. This happens at all zoom levels.
    - Are the files stored on a local drive, or are they being streamed over a network?
-The files are on the local drive. I've tried doing it off the network drive also with almost the exact same result.
    - If you zoom in while stopped and then press play, does the screen scroll/paging update at a normal speed or does it also lag?
-It depends. Sometimes it will wait until it's finished zooming and then start playing, but some of the time it will start, in the middle, right on one of the choppy zooms. Regardless of playback or starting playback in the middle of zooming, it will zoom in at the same "choppy rate" (if that makes any sense)
    - If you attempt to zoom using the Zoom buttons in the interface, do you see the same performance problems?
-In a word, yes. It's generally about a click behind me.
    - This probably goes without saying, but Spectral Frequency view is NOT visible while seeing this behavior, correct?
-Correct. Spectral Frequency view is not visible during the issue.
Essentially, what I was expecting upon installing this on the Mac was relatively the same experience we have on our PC's running AA 3.0. Each click of the scroll wheel is instantaneously zoomed. It's almost like typing on a lagging machine where the letters don't come up immediately; sure it works, but it throws you off and you tend to make a crapload of mistakes. I really hope this makes sense.
Also, as a side note, is there any way to get added as a beta tester for 6? I was reading a few threads here and saw that you guys were really open to suggestions (which is awesome). We work in Audition regularly and would love to help make the next release even better!
    Thanks again,
    Reid

  • Live Media  Encoder Windows vs Mac OSX performance?

    Hi all,
We've got LME 3.1 set up on our Intel Core 2 Duo OSX Snow leopard machine and it's working, but we're dropping a few frames per second. We're working through the issues, but I am curious if OSX could be the cause of some problems. I noticed here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/flashmediaencoder/systemreqs/
that the system requirements seem a lot steeper for OSX than Windows.
Does anyone know if OSX does in fact perform worse than Windows?
Thanks in advance for any help / info!

Are these Input Frame drops or Output Frame drops. Which Video codec you are using. Can you check
CPU usageof FMLE from Activity monitor and let me know.

  • Both Windows and Mac OSX won't read/keep ejecting disks

I erased my harddrive and reinstalled Snow Leopard this way I could get Bootcamp up and running. After I reformatted the computer, I have been having serious issues with it reading any Windows CDs. The first issue was with the installation CD. My computer would take it in and spit it back out, it did this over and over. It was a Windows XP full installation CD. The same CD I have used when installing Bootcamp in the past. I also tried a Windows 7 full install CD and had the same issue. After many attempts, it finally read the XP CD and I had XP running. I installed the drivers and went about using XP. For the most part things felt alright, but I was still having issues with CDs. I would put most CDs in and it would just eject them, or sometimes eat them, and not eject them at all. Other times it told me some software CDs were blank, when I knew they weren't. The CDs worked in every other computer, but not in my machine. I figured I would get around it by using disk images all the time, but this has proven complicated and annoying.
Today I finally got the Vista upgrade CD to work. When in Vista I was still having CD problems, but then things got worse. Daemon Tools wouldn't work anymore and neither would Alcohol 120%. It seems like things just stopped working all of a sudden. The Windows 7 CD wouldn't read eother so I was stuck with a pretty useless partition and operating system.
I just erased my drive again and reinstalled OS X 10.6. I am still having the problem with CDs. It keeps spitting out the Windows CDs/Programs designed for Windows CDs or is telling me they are blank media. I am at a brick wall here. I really would like to get Windows up and running so I can run my important software. Does anyone know what could be the problem? I appreciate the help.

So, if he has a OS 9 bootable G4, do you think the external USB floppy would work under OS 9?
Also, if he upgrades the 7200 to OS 9, do you think he could install that drive into the G4 and boot from it? I think there were some options in earlier OS <9 that let you do a custom install for all computers, not just the target one, which is handy for an external drive that you might use to boot more than one comptuer from, but I guess that depends on the installation disk?
Networking is a good way to migrate the files over, but if you plan on retiring the 7200, why not take the hard drive out and put it in the G4, at least temporarily to copy stuff over.
