Completely decommission SCCM and associated DB, etc.

Hi all,
Just joined a company, and we have a SCCM 2012 RTM server which I'm sure they installed and managed learning as they went, and not following best practices, etc. It has a lot of what I believe is redundant data, reporting is broken, I can't locate the PXE logs
anywhere, and a few other things. Talking to my Infrastructure manager we believe it may take less time decommissioning it and starting from scratch, one piece at a time (first making sure it can deploy windows updates, then OSD, then software distribution,
etc.), instead of trying to fix it (handover documentation is not also that good).
I'm quite of a SCCM newbie, although I had some exposure in the past to SCCM 2007. We basically have a SCCM server using an external SQL server. SCCM is integrated with AD. There is a number of SCCM clients deployed in our network.
Like I said, what we would like is to make it like we ever had SCCM installed and start from scratch. Can you share links that might be useful, advice, etc? I will start with these:
http://anoopcnair.com/2012/08/09/sccm-configmgr-2012-uninstall-cas-primary-secondary-server/
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712320.aspx#BKMK_DecommissionSites
I guess the workflow should be something like this, but I'm sure I'm missing steps in between.
Uninstall the primary site using Configuration Manager Setup
Remove DBs
Decommission server (format it, or whatever)
Deal with the computers with the client already installed
Install WSUS, SCCM, DBs, etc.
Point out computers to the new WSUS
Some extra questions:
- Can we reuse the old site name?
- What about the computers with the SCCM client installed? Is best practice to uninstall it (maybe via AD GPO?)? Can we just reconfigure them? What if it's possible to reuse the site name?
Thanks a lot.

Remember to also clean the System Management container under System in Active Directory. Regarding the clients, I'd not bother you could use any of the installations method to just reinstall it, or re-assign it with a script. Also, I'd consider coming up
with a good naming standard for the new site codes, as I assume that the previous setup may not have had the best names (CAS, PRI, SEC etc may not always be a good thing).
Once you've installed the OS, have a look at my ConfigMgr 2012 R2 prerequisites installation tool:
Some other notes:
- Consider installing ConfigMgr 2012 R2 and SQL on the same machine, depending on the number of clients.
- When you install a new environment, always go for the latest and greatest (CM CU's, SQL SP's and CU's).
Other than that, if you havn't yet seen Nial's excellent guides. I strongly urge you to check them out.
Regards,
Nickolaj Andersen | www.scconfigmgr.com | @Nickolaja
Thanks Nickola. Why do you suggest installing SQL server in the same machine instead of using a dedicated SQL Server? I could think of making sure that high usage on that server doesn't impact SCCM, but I don't know if you mean something as simple
as that. My environment is currently 70 clients, but it may grow in the future.

  • Moving photos and associated tags, etc. to a new computer

I have just updated APE-7 to APE-11 on my old computer which is running Windows 7.    The transition went well.   All photos and tags moved seamlessly to the new programs format.   I need advice on how best to transfer all of that to a new computer which is also running Windows-7.    You can think of the new computer as a clean slate, other than the fact that I installed APE-11 on it as well.
Question 1:   Should I begin by manually transfer all photos from the "My Pictures" folder on the old computer to the "My Pictures" folder on the new computer prior to using the "Restore Catalog" function or does that automatically happen when I use the "Restore Catalog" function within APE-11 to transfer Keywords and Tags?
Question 2:   I would appreciate it if someone would provide a link to an Adobe document that might give a detailed explanation as to how to use the "Restore Catalog" function, to a new, computer.   Or, perhaps a detailed step-by-step description of how to accomplish it in a way that all Keywords and Tags will remain associated with each picture.

All your questions are answered here
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/backup-restore-move-catalog-photoshop.html
You need to perform a backup in PSE7 and then move the backup you create in PSE7 (which includes photos and the catalog and associated files) to the new computer, then restore.

  • How can I completely remove iTunes and all associated files/programs from my Windows PC?

How can I completely remove iTunes and all associated files/programs from my Windows PC?

iTunes, along with Quick Time, iCloud, Apple Software Update, Bonjour, Apple Mobile Device Support and Apple Application Support can all be removed from your PC by uninstalling them using 'Uninstall or change a program' in Control Panel. The only obvious thing that will be left behind is your iTunes library which remains untouched. If you want to remove that as well it's just a question of deleting it.
    Hope that helps.

  • How do I get out of an iphone restoration loop, itunes keeps saying it has detected an iphone in restore mode and that it must check for software updates and reinstall the ios, it completes this process and then says: detected iphone in restore mode etc.,

Background: my iphone 3gs was running wonderfully - no issues at all, as normal.
I let the power run down to critical and got the empty battery screen - plugged it in and when it had enuf juice it displayed the cord-to-itunes-of-death-screen...
I had just backed up the previous to icloud so no worries... I just plugged in and thought ok this will just take a second...it completed the restore then said with a glazed amnesic font "Itunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode, and has never seen or restored this iphone ever before, since this is a stranger iphone, itunes does not trust it and must call the ipolice to check for contraban in its orifices and cavities, you must restore"... kidding of course... but
OMG at home I did the whole restore process no less than 20 times while optimizing and accounting for different variables each time (restoring on a new system with a fresh OS, trying to restore and a mac, restoring then restarting empty cache, restart unistall itunes then restore restart restore, installing an older version of Itunes and restoring. going back to Vista and restoring), and every single time it would complete the check, the update/check, the ios reinstall, and then whatever else and say "complete"... and then no icon menu would appear for the device in itunes so unplug the phone and replug and get the whole "Itunes must render restore aid" message. SO I went to the genuis bar at my local iBoutique thrice - each time the bewildered but very courteous and knowledgable genuis wanted to keep trying ... since I had been on this treadmill for about two weeks I decided each time to respect my fellow appletonians and not suck up genius time... but I really want my old 3gs back... why - I like that it amazes the youth who occaisonal are puzzled by seeing something apple that they don't recognize and in wonder and amazement at its age they learn that even though its no longer invited to iOS family gatherings that it still can call home and ask why Apple waited so long when it was a kid to give it copy-paste ability like all the other kids, then ask for money for the shrink bill.. ... . . ..

Soooooooo.... You obviously need to restore the device
It seems that you have tried several options to restore it. What I would do is leave it plugged it and hold down the Home button AND the Power button together till you see the white apple appears. Then let go of the Power button but continue to hold the home button. You should get the message in iTunes again saying that the iPhone needs to be restored. Hit OK then RESTORE.
    Hope this helps!!

  • SCCM and Mcafee anti virus

    Hi all,
we have been running SCCM for about 5 years now, both 2007 and now 2012 versions and in that time our only Anti Virus product has been Mcafee (unfortunately in my mind).  over this time we have had no issues with the AV blocking anything to do with
SCCM but in the last 2 or 3 months I'd say, I have noticed a few issues that I initially thought to be issues with Microsoft security updates, but have subsequently realised it is in fact Mcafee causing the issue.
basically what seems to be happening, and I have only noticed this on Windows 7 and server 2008 computers (don't have many win 8 computers yet to notice if there is a problem there too), is that when software updates are advertised to a computer and installed,
the updates install perfectly well but when it comes to the reboot phase, the computers start to boot, generally get to about 32% of applying the updates and then do another reboot, then try to carry on the software configuration bits only for them to
uninstall themselves again.  if I look in the windowsupdate.log there will be numerous errors regarding being able to apply the updates with access denied errors with associated error code 0x800007005 or something like that and if I look at the corresponding
logs in mcafee, they tie up with the timestamps of the access denied messages in the windowsupdate.log and blocking messages in Mcafee AV.
If I disable mcafee service, install the updates with SCCM, reboot etc etc. they install fine, reboots fine, applies updates during boot sequence fine etc. no problem
if I use windows updates via the control panel instead of SCCM, the updates also, install fine.
so.... after all that background my question is this.....
what other SCCM files, other than ccmexec.exe should my security team be putting in the exclusion lists for Mcafee that could be causing it to roll back the Microsoft Updates installed via SCCM 2012?
ie. why will the AV allow normal windows update to install the MS updates but block SCCM from doing this?
also, I would have thought that after the updates have been installed by SCCM and it reboots the computer or the user manually reboots, at that point SCCM ceases to be part of the equation and the computer should just update the registry etc as required
without AV blocking it.... is there any part of SCCM that could be causing AV to block the final stages of applying the updates during the boot process? it seem unlikely, however there is no question there is a relationship between the two based on my testing
    outlined above...
anyone who may have come across as well and have any pearls of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
    regards
    douglas

thank you Gerry, appreciate the response.
I notice most of the recommendations refer to the actual SCCM servers themselves in order to increase performance.
My particular problem is around the clients rolling back updates due to anti virus software not liking something to do with SCCM at the moment.  I notice there is reference to the softwaredistribution folder which is probably worth checking out with
the security team that that folder is not being scanned, but not sure if that would be why the updates are not installing as this issue is a relatively new issue and I would have noticed that a long time ago.
thanks again for the post and I'll get those added.  if anyone else has experienced this issue with clients not installing updates due to Antivirus software, would appreciate any help?
    thanks

  • When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.

    Problem:
When I plug in my iPhone to sync, it starts but does not complete the process and several pieces of data are not being transferred to my iPhone from my MacBook Air.
Any help that you can provide in helping my iPhone accurately sync with iPhoto and iTunes will be greatly appreciated.
    Symptoms:
    1)   Sync:  It’s not completing the sync.  Below, I’ve provided all of my settings from the iTunes Summary tab so that you might tell me if I’ve selected any incorrect options.  I prefer to sync the “old school” way – by connecting to the computer – as opposed to syncing over the cloud. Perhaps this is what’s causing the problem? Here is a list of the steps displayed in the iTunes window as the sync progresses:
waiting for sync to start (step 1 of 7)
backing up (step 2 of 7)
preparing to sync (step 3 of 7)
determining apps to sync (step 4 of 7)
preparing apps to sync (step 5 of 7)
importing photos (step 6 of 7)
waiting for changes to be applied (step 7 of 7)
syncing apps / copying 1 of 4 (App name) (step 7 of 7)
    canceling sync
    apple icon
    2)   Photos: I've selected only certain of my iPhoto albums to sync to my iPhone.  All of the albums are correct/complete in iPhoto.  All of the albums are listed on my iPhone, both before and after the sync, but the albums are empty (no actual photos) before and after the sync. Perhaps this is tied to the fact that the sync isn’t completing, but because “importing photos” is one of the steps that the incomplete sync displays, I don’t know.
    3)   Apps: When I launch iTunes and click on the Apps folder under the Library listing, then click on the Updates tab, iTunes searches for any Apps needing to be updated and provides a list.  If I click on Update All, the Apps are successfully updated in iTunes.  But, when I plug in my iPhone so that the updates will transfer to the apps on my iPhone, the updates don’t transfer to the apps on my iPhone and those apps still reflect that they need updating on the iPhone.
    Other Potential Pertinent Info:
The flash memory hard drive on my MacBook Air recently died (perhaps a month or two ago).  Apple had emailed me about a known issue and literally the next day, my MacBook Air crashed.  I installed a new flash memory drive and re-installed everything from a backup off of an external hard drive.  Everything seems to be working fine; it recreated accurately all of my software and data, including iPhoto and iTunes, the pictures and songs (respectively) for which are stored on that hard drive, as opposed to being on the flash memory in the MacBook Air itself.  However, I don’t recall if the start of the sync problem described herein started happening at the same time that I replaced the flash memory drive.  All I know is that the computer is working perfectly in all respects and that even as the sync is failing, it at least says that it’s doing the right things and looking in the right places (e.g., the list of albums on my iPhone matches the list of albums in iTunes, etc.).
    Settings/Status:
    MacBook Air
    OSX v. 10.9
    iPhoto ’11 v. 9.5 (902.7)
    iPhone iOS 7.0.4
    iTunes v. 11.1.3 (8)
    Summary Tab
    Backups (This Computer)
    Options
Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected
Sync only checked songs and videos
    Photos Tab
Sync Photos from iPhoto (429 Photos)
Selected albums, Events, and Faces, and automatically include (no Events)
    Albums – 9 are selected

You need to download iTunes on your computer. iOS 6 requires the latest version of iTunes which is 10.7.

  • After completely uninstalling iTunes and QuickTime, registry keys remain!

I have completely uninstalled iTunes and QuickTime from my PC (OS = XP Home) and deleted all folders and files associated with Apple, iTunes or QuickTime that were not removed during the normal uninstall procedure.
Also, I have cleaned my registry using Registry Mechanic. However, about 120 registry keys for iTunes and QuickTime stubbornly remain. I have tried to remove them several times, but on the next scan they are still there. Manual removal using Regedit also fails, resulting in the message:
"Cannot delete **: error while deleting key".
I don't understand how a program that has been completely deleted can still have registry traces. The offending keys (listed below) are in the Custom Controls section. How can I delete them?

    Try to reset the device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • Precedence and Associativity code snippet

Look at this code snippet and assume the value of i is 2:
((k = (++i)) + (j = (2 * (++i))))We have the pre-increment operator showing up twice and that operator is the highest level precedence in this example. Next in line as far as precedence goes is the multiply operator. So what I did was I went to the far right and raised i from 2 to 3
and then I figured since multiplication is the next in level of precedence I multiplied 3 * 2 to get 6.
But I guess that's not the correct way to evaluate this. The author said when you have two operators that are of the same level of precedence, Java uses associativity rules to "break the tie."
So I guess the correct thing to do is first increment i from 2 to 3 at the far left and then assign that to k.
I'm just a bit confused I guess. I thought step 1 would be to go to the far right and increment i from 2 to 3. Then step 2 would be to carry out the multiply operation.
Now the increment operator and the assignment operator are right associative. So the increment operator binds to variable i and the assignment operator binds to the result of incrementing i.
But I don't see the connection between being right associative and proceeding to evaluate expressions from left to right. I'm still not completely understanding why we evaluate the far left expression first and not do the far right one first.

Savitch said Java first does binding; that is it fully parenthesizes the expression using precedence and associativity rules. Then it evaluates expressions left to right. If that's what he says he is wrong. There is no such thing as 'binding; that is it fully parenthesizes the expression using precedence and associativity rules,' and I've already shown that 'evaluates expressions left to right' isn't correct either. See also the JLS, where none of this fantasy is mentioned. Compilers don't 'fully parenthesize' expressions. They parse them according to the grammar, which defines precedence and associativity; then they evaluate the operators in order of precedence, evaluating the operands of each operator in left-to-right order.
Walter Savitch is apparently a professor of CS and should know better than that. I'd like to see what he really said.
Since multiplication has a higher level of precedence than addition we perform the multiply operation first.Of course we do. That's not the point at issue.
    Java is actually doing this:
    d = a + (b * c)
That is the point at issue. This is incorrect. Java isn't 'actually doing this' at all. That's just begging the question. There is no compilation step that corresponds to the insertion of those parentheses. What is actually happening is that operator precedence dictates that the multiplication be evaluated before the addition.
As I said above, to a compiler writer, () is just another operator. Explaining operator precedence in terms of parentheses is putting the cart before the horse. It works the other way round.
Answer is 7Of course it is. That's not in dispute.
It's like the BODMAS you learned in 3rd grade.
The way it is actually done is (a) turning the expression into a parse tree, with the operators already in the correct place due to precedence, as dictated by the grammar, and (b) outputting a Reverse-Polish representation of the expression, which in the above case would look like this:
    PUSH 1
    PUSH 2
    PUSH 3
MULTIPLY ; pop the top two elements on the stack, multiply them, and push the result
ADD ; pop the top two elements on the stack, add them, and push the result.
    No parentheses there.

    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
         drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
      1. Cool Drives
      2. OWC
      3. WiebeTech
      4. Firewire Direct
      5. California Drives
      6. NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

  • SCCM and use App-V Shared Content Mode.

    Hello,
I am trying to use SCCM 2012 R2 with App-V 5.0 SP2 HF4 to use the Shared Content Store.
The App-V client is installed with the sharedcontentstoremode=1. When i deploy the app-v application with SCCM the content still hits the local disk of the client (streaming/Downloading). Is it just not possible to use the shared content store mode with
SCCM app-v application deployment or do i need to set some extra registry settings? I am unable to find any documentation that explains the way to configure SCCM/APP-v to use the Shared Content Store. The documenation i find is only related to the Full
    App-v infrastructure.

It has the status "ready for offline use" so that is not oke. The SCS value is 1 so that is oke.

    Thank you.

  • How to Apply Exchange 2013 Active Directory Split Permission Model and Completely Isolate AD and Exchange Management??

    Hi Experts,
I am Deploying Exchange 2013 in an organization where currently Active Directory is handled and Administered by a different Admins and they want Exchange to be managed by another set of Admins. My customer wants to completely Isolate Administration and Management
of both AD And Exchange. i have gone through some technet articles and tested option for both RBAC and Active Directory Split permission model. I think Active Directory Split Permission model would be helpful but while testing i came to know that, via Split
permission Exchange admin can not create or delete User/Dist. Groups but still he can Edit or modify the details (City, office address, phone no. Department and display name etc.) which means that this is not fully separation of Roles between AD Admins and
    Exchange Admins.
please help me to resolve below queries and Scenarios if supported by Exchange Split permission model -
    (1) only AD Admins should be able to create, Delete or modify the Security principles property in Active Directory. Exchange Admin should only need to modify Exchange related property/attributes from exchange Control panel or shell. they should not be able
to change the Display name, and other AD related common attributes via Exchange Admin centre or management shell.
    (2) similarly i want to restrict my AD Admins from modifying or changing exchange related attributes by any means (ADSIEDIT, ADUC,). i want to restrict my AD Admins from assigning organization management or recipient management rights to them-self and do
any modification on my exchange servers via Shell or Admin Centre and then Revoke the membership from Exchange Security groups. i want AD Admins and Exchange should do their respective tasks without any ability to change/edit or modify any settings of each
    others??
    (3) I Want to restrict to open Exchange Admin Centre (ECP) via some limited Systems only. i know we can block to open ECP via internet but i want to restrict it to open within internal network as well and from limited systems of my Exchange Admin.

    Hi,
For Exchange privileges, I suggest use RBAC.

  • I send an email from my Iphone to a friend.  My friend receives it on her Iphone, but as text message.  She replies and it goes back to my daughter's phone, a completely different email and phone number.  Why?

I send an email from my Iphone to a friend.  My friend receives it on her Iphone, but as text message.  She replies and it goes back to my daughter's phone, a completely different email and phone number.  Why?

We went through my friend's phone and my daughter's email and phone number are not in it.  I have never given my daughter's iphone number to my friend.  Is it something to do with gmail or my apple id?  My daughter (14) has been using my computer as her "base" for HER Iphone.
My friend does use her iphone number as an email address as well.
For instance:  her phone number might look like this:  (493) 305-3958
and her email address would look like this:  [email protected]
If I Iphone/email my friend, she receives it as a text message.  Then if she replies to that text message, it goes to my daughter's phone and not mine.  It's completely crazy!  We searched her phone contacts and did not find my daughter's phone number anywhere or attached anywhere to mine.  Since when does Iphone emailing wind up in the text messaging area?
