Completely disable focus

I would like to completely disable focus. I know I can disable focus for individual components, but then I would need to disable every single button, which I don't want to do. Normally, I wouldn't care about focus, except that I have a specific jButton operated by the enter key. And I am using the GTK look/feel, so enter is the key that activates the focused button. The result of this is that when enter is pressed the focused key is pushed, not the key I specifically have set to be activated by enter. So how do I disable focus?

I don't understand the scenario.
If you need further help then you need to create a [Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable, Example Program (SSCCE)|http://sscce.org], that demonstrates the incorrect behaviour.
Don't forget to use the Code Formatting Tags so the posted code retains its original formatting. That is done by selecting the code and then clicking on the "Code" button above the question input area.

  • Can you completely disable data usage on iPhone?

I have an extra iPhone 4S that I got from a friend who's contract ended. My girlfriend has a very basic plan from AT&T (unlimited calling and texting). She can send picture messages also, but she doesn't have a data plan from what I understand. (I always thought MMS required data?) I was wondering if there was anyway I could completely disable data usage on the iPhone so there would be no charges. I know this limits the phone capabilities, but it would be an improvement to her current phone. Also would I have to register the phone in her name so she can use the phone with her SIM card or is it as easy as popping it in?
    Thank you!

Your problem is that AT&T does not permit iPhones, on their network, without an associated data plan. So, like it or not, you'll still have to pay for data. If you try to use the phone without a data plan, they will eventually catch you & bill you accordingly. All carriers call tell exactly what type of device is using their network.
In fact, I'm not aware of any carrier, in the US, that will permit an iPhone on their network without an associated data plan.

  • How to completely disable "Touchsmart OS software" Slows & interfers

How to completely disable "Touchsmart OS software"  What a  Hassle it slows & interferes  Windows & applications.
I can't find any information how to completely disable this software.  I can't imagine anyone likes it.  It just slows my computer & makes my other programs want to crash.  It wastes at least 2 to 5 minutes every single startup having to shut it down manually.
I want it off my machine & I bet I am not the only one.  It reminds me of the old Windows over Dos mess.

    Brilliant1, welcome to the forum.
When requesting help you should always include the make/model of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them.
I believe that you can go into the Control Panel under "Pen and Touch".  You would uncheck the box "Use finger as input device" (some such words).
I found this in another thread:
Per HP Technical Support:  "Hp TouchScreen Configuration" has been replaced by "Pen and Touch."   More recent models would have "Pen and Touch," older models would have "HP TouchScreen Configuration."  The "Configuration" option does not appear on any TouchSmart 610 series all-in-one computers.   So to turn off the finger-operated TouchScreen one would use whichever appears on the Control Panel of the computer in question.

  • How can I completely disable Airport / BlueTooth?

    Hello All,
I've asked this in another thread, but have just realized that there is a dedicated Airport discussion area. So, I figured I would refine my question using information gathered from my previous discussion, and see if you fine people here in this discussion group might be able to shed additional light on my question.
    So, here we go:
For those that want the background on my question, the original thread is at:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@@.68bc9dac
My desire is to completely disable the Airport and BlueTooth features that are now integrated into the new systems.
I am considering purchasing a new iMac G5 or Power Mac G5, and want to see if it is possible to disable these features before I spend my money.
While others are convinced that I am crazy, my personal desire is not to have this type of radio frequency / radiation emissions on my desk.
I know there are many who feel it is not an issue or problem, so rather than discuss whether it is a warranted concern, I would prefer to discuss the simple matter of whether it can be disabled.
(see my previous discussion for my feelings / research on the subject)
My previous discussion led me to understand that it is soldered into the main board on the 2 latest revisions of the iMac G5, and probably also on the Power Mac G5. Any confirmations / corrections there?
I was hoping that I could simply unplug them like I could on older systems to eliminate them completely.
If that is not possible at all on the iMac G5's or Power Mac G5's, then here are a couple of additional questions:
I have learned that there is a setting in OS X to "Turn Off" the Airport features.
Does this setting actually power down and completely deactivate the Airport circuitry so that it would be essentially the same as if it were removed? Or, does it simply ignore the Airport controller and leave it powered-up?
    Any knowledge there?
Secondly, anyone know if there is a similar setting for Blue Tooth? If there is, same question. Does it completely shut-down / power-off the Blue Tooth circuitry? Or, does it simply ignore it and leave it electrically powered?
My end goal is to have absolutely no signal coming out of the computer's Airport and BlueTooth circuitry. I want it to be essentially the same as if they were not even present.
If you know where I might find technical documents supporting or explaining how this enable / disable feature works (in relation to the above question), I would greatly appreciate it.
Additionally, in the event that disabling the features in Software / OS X doesn't work, is it safe (or possible) to simply disconnect the antenna from the Airport / BlueTooth controller or circuitry. It would seem that this might be quite easy on the Power Mac G5. It might still be possible on the iMac G5's with built-in Airport and Blue Tooth.
Yes, I know that some will think this quite unusual. Some may think I'm weird or strange. But, if you read my other discussion, you might understand my personal perspective and concern.
Either way, I am hopeful that rather than discussing whether there is a valid concern, that we might be able to discuss options and ideas on how to disable these features.
    Thank you in advance.

Your original thread on this topic has pretty well beaten the subject to death.
Yes, turning "Off" the Airport card from the MacOS Airport menu does indeed turn off its radio transmitter. That is the method recommended for people who, for example, want to take their Mac laptops on an aircraft where one is not allowed to have a radio transmitter on during the flight.
There is a similar setting in Bluetooth Preferences.

this thing is like using windows VISTA !
    please help !

You may have one of the 2010 models with the 'bad' GPU - see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US.
If so, it should be fixed for nothing. Read the Knowledge Base article and call support to schedule a time that you can take your machine in and have it diagnosed.

  • How do I unlock iphone 5 that has been completely disabled, tried going to itunes?

How do I unlock iphone 5 that is completely disabled?  It says to go to itunes, when going to itunes it says I need to have phone unlocked!  Thanks!

If you mean your passcode lock:
If You Are Locked Out Or Have Forgotten Your Passcode or Just Need to Restore Your Device
      1. iTunes 10 for Mac- Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
      2. iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
      3. iOS- Understanding passcodes
If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions
below but DO NOT restore any previous backup. If you do then you will
simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore, then restore as New.
If you are restoring to fix a forgotten Restrictions Code or as a New device, then skip Step 9 and restore as New.
If you mean unlocked from your carrier, then contact them as they are the only ones who can unlock the phone.

  • How do I completely disable TB's attempts to tag/flag/judge email as junk?

I don't want TB to touch my emails with ANY junk classification.
I don't want it to display 'junk' icons.
I don't want it to 'think' a message is junk mail.
How do I permanently, completely and irreversibly disable any and all code in thunderbird that messes up my precious messages and tags them as junk. I'm ok with deleting it's bs database of junk/not junk. It was worthless anyway.
I want it to go away. I never want to see any mentions of 'junk' in my thunderbird setup.
Seriously. Please stop defecating all over my email. There MUST be a way to disable this...
I've seen every google link coming up after typing 'thunderbird disable junk filtering', three pages in. Similar searches too. Any and all advice remains useless. 'Thunderbird thinks this message is junk mail.' is driving me mad.
If there's a function I need to comment out in the code, I'm OK to do it. Just please, drop me a hint, I'm desperate.
    </rant>.

In addition to ensuring all your mail accounts have diabled the adaptive junk mail filtering, make sure you have also turned off adaptive junk mail controls in Local Folders > Junk Settings as well as the mail accounts.
'''re:'I can't 'empty Junk' folder as it contains valuable data ''''
I was under the impression that disabling the adaptive junk controls, stopped this filtering/checking on new incoming mail although it would not change anything currently marked as junk.
However, I'm not certain, but if there are emails marked as junk could this keep the junk settings alive? hence why I suggested you deleted/emptied the Junk and compacted that folder to rule that notion out.
Perhaps it might a good idea to put valuable emails in a suitable folder. I would not assume that a Junk folder is the best place for emails that are not Junk. Then you can clear this folder which has emails marked as junk.
when you have no emails marked as junk and the Junk folder is empty and compacted, then make sure the training.dat is empty.
    '''re: $ find ~/.thunderbird -name training.dat --- returns no files. '''
If you have clicked on 'Reset Training Data' it should clear everything, but check that it is totally empty and you must have Thunderbird closed before you do any changes to the Profile folder.
Profile folders and files are hidden files, so you need to make hidden files visible first.
Select the thunderbird file and press Ctrl-H.
    more info :
    http://www.upubuntu.com/2011/11/how-to-show-create-hidden-files-or.html
Then when you start up Thunderbird, the Junk Controls should be completely disabled.
Just had a thought....do you have any pop mail account set up as a Global Inbox account?
If yes, disable this temporarily (set to store inside own Inbox) and then unset your Junk settings. There was a bug requiring this workaround, but it was fixed from version 17.
Close and restart Thunderbird after changing all the settings.
    RE: Junk controls.
I set up my Junk controls, trained the Junk to recognise junk and not junk and have not had any issues. From my point of view it works very well.
re: To Disable or enable Thunderbird's email scam detection and warning system
    'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Security' > E-mail Scams tab.
Uncheck/check the box and click on OK.
You could try creating a new Profile and make sure that all the Junk Settings are not enabled from the start.
If switching off absolutely everything in all accounts, Local Folders etc still brings up the warning. please post as a bug here:

  • Is it possible to completely disable port 23 on a Cisco device?

When we run the 'show control-plane host open-ports' command on any of our routers (but specifically a CGR 2010) we are seeing port 23 in a listening state.
Active internet connections (servers and established)
Prot               Local Address             Foreign Address                  Service    State
     tcp                        *:22                         *:0                                    SSH-Server   LISTEN
     tcp                        *:23                         *:0                                              Telnet   LISTEN
     udp                       *:123                       *:0                                                NTP   LISTEN
Our auditors are leery of this even though we have shown that we do not have telnet enabled on the VTY lines, only SSH, and there is an ACL in place for further protection. Is there ANY way to completely disable port 23 to keep it from running AT ALL upon startup? I have been scouring the internet for a solution to this and have come up dry. I feel that there has to be a way to do this, but can't figure it out. Is it possible to do at all? And if not I would really like to find some official documentation from Cisco stating that the ports are on by default and cannot be disabled so that I have something to give to our auditors.
    Thanks!

You cannot shut off the telnet service completely on an IOS router, including the CGR 2010. This can be done on NX-OS ("no service telnet").
As Leo notes and as you mentioned you're already doing, securing the vty lines is considered a good practice. You might also add control plane policing. I've seen that configuration pass NERC audits used in nuclear plants here in the US.
As far as getting something official from Cisco, you'd have to open a TAC case or work with your reseller to get something from the business unit.

  • Trying to completely disable "this connection is untrusted" dialog

I'm trying to completely disable the "this connection is untrusted" dialog. I've had this issue since 3.5 when the security model was changed. There used to be a plugin that reduced the amount of time it took to get through this dialog, but it stopped working with 4.0.
    Issues:
I am a systems administrator that managages 1000's of servers & devices. A large number of these have internal websites, and they can be replaced/change frequently (HP ILO's, temporary dev websites, switches, etc.). the frequency of the turnover and the effort to create and assign a certificate to each of these websites would cause a lot more effort then going through the dialog choices. however, the dialog choices frequently slow my work down on a regular basis. Adding an excemption for each website would not work due to the frequently changing nature of my environment.
    So to sum up:
I want to completely and utterly turn off/remove the "this connection is untrusted" dialogs from my Firefox. It will save me (and others I would imagine) time and effort to simply disable this dialog completely. I don't care how obscure it would be to get to work, as long as it's an option and it only has to be done once.

'''I am so tired of firefox telling me "This Connection is Untrusted"!!!!!!!!''' I'm tired of having to add exceptions, I'm tired of the extra tiny lag time of loading while it checks sites, I'm tired of typing the URL I want into the URL window only to look up to see that the lag time has now caused my cursor to stop typing in the URL window and has now started searching in my Google homepage halfway through my typing!!
Firefox, '''GIVE US A CHOICE of whether we want secure browsing on or off''' or I am OFF YOU and onto another browser!!!~~!!~!~!!!~!!! Quit forcing things on us like Facebook does with no options to opt in or out if we so choose.

  • Completely DISABLE wiki in 10.6 server

I have two Xserves running as heads for our Xsan. I want to disable as many services as possible that are not needed. Anyone know how I might completely disable wiki, web, ical, ichat services altogether?

first, check that wikid is even running. use activity monitor or ps to find out.
if it is, be sure the service is disabled in server admin. if it's still running, verify that by using sudo lsof -i and looking for the python processes or teamserver.
you can try telnetting to localhost port 8086 or 8087 to see if the teamserver/wiki ports are open.
you can also use netstat to see if there are any established or otherwise connections to the ports in question.
the plist you want is probably /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.wikid.plist, though verify this is true first. i'm making an educated guess here. if everything else looks like it's off, it should be off. it won't just spring back to life.
do you have an example of the log messages related to the processes that concern you? it's possible they're just informative and not indicative of a running wiki.

  • Is it possible to completely disable quicklook

We have a quantum tape archive which appears as a fiber connected volume on a 10.6.4 client. Users push files to the quantum via Finder drag and drop. The files then goto a temporary landing pad (which is a hard drive) for several hours and then copied to tape and deleted from the landing pad - however a stub remains which looks identical to the original file but doesn't contain any data except metadata.
Users that are restoring data from the quantum volume use Finder to locate the file (the stub) and then drag and drop to the destination required. The quantum tape archive then grabs the file off tape and drops it onto the landing pad before it is then pushed to the required destination.
This all works fine until the user accidentally hits the space-bar whilst on a file in the quantum volume - this triggers a restore and consumes resources. If I can disable quicklook on the client then I can eradicate the issue.
*How do I completely disable quicklook?*
NB If you don't know how to do this please don't reply. I have so far tried:
    • +sudo launchctl unload com.apple.quicklook.plist+ reboot
    • +sudo vi com.apple.quicklook.plist+ adding
    +<key>Disabled</key>
    <true/>+ then +sudo launchctl load com.apple.quicklook.plist+ reboot
    • Reluctant to try this as a permissions repair will kill it: http://hintsforums.macworld.com/showpost.php?p=485190&postcount=23
    Thanks in advance!

Did you try:sudo launchctl unload -w com.apple.quicklook.plistThe disable flag in the plist is no longer used as you think it is. See unload in the [man page|http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Darwin/Reference/Man Pages/man1/launchctl.1.html].
Sounds like a dumb idea to disable a useful feature instead of teaching the users to not do that.
Edit: And, repairing permissions won't undo it. What they did was disable certain generators by changing permissions on the folders. The launchctl command does not change any permissions.

  • Completely disable a specifict key {solved...kinda}

{Solved} ---> since i couldn't find a way to solve my problem i decided to remove the keyboard and manually cut off the connection of the key, i am glad to say it actually worked and that it seems the rest of my keyboard isn't going haywire i am a bit....dissapointed that i wasn't able to find a more....elegant way to do so (not cutting the key off, for example) but, it works.
    thanks to all of you who read my post}
My keyboard's(laptop) "Left" key is broken (due to a water related incident) so i am trying to find a way to completely disable it. I kinda found one using "xmodmap -e 'keycode #=NoSignal' and that solves most of my problem, normally there are no problems and i would be able to type whatever i desire without issues. The problem arises when i have to modify some file for one reason or another from the terminal and i have to go into SU mode, it ask for a password but for some reason my left key "reactivates"  it isn't actually moving my cursor but inserting some other text. It also bothers me when im trying to select something in a right click menu(or any sort of menu that allows for keyboard based selection) that has sub menus in it. I verify xev and indeed even if its not actually doing what it should (for example moving my cursor as a type) it is still stuck (aka spam as if i was holding it).
So i wonder if there is a method to completely disable my left key?
    apologies for the bad grammar.

First, think really hard about why you want to disable the PK. If it turns out that you really must change the PK, then do this:
    1. drop the primary key.
    2. recreate the PK with the DEFERRABLE INITIALLY DEFERRED clause.
This will cause the PK to be created with a non-unique index so that if you disable the PK, you will not get an ORA-1 exception. It will also defer checking and enforcing the PK until you commit. This could eliminate the need to disable/enable the PK.

  • COMPLETELY Disable Protected View in Excel 2010

I am currently running Excel 2010 Standard.  In our environment we have an AS400 that can create Excel files (97-2003 format) that earlier versions of Excel would open without an issue.  With Excel 2010 I am unable to open the file, even though
I've unchecked all of the Protected View settings.  Is there anyway to disable all of the protected view options from ever running?  I understand it's a security thing, but it is causing more issues in my environment than preventing.

Yes I know I was in protected view.  It's pretty obvious when you're in there.  I even turned off DEP just to make sure it wasn't intefering.  Just for your edification I've included links to three screenshots.  One showing protected
view, COMPLETELY turned off, followed by a screenshot of a file being BLOCKED by PROTECTED VIEW, then followed up with what shows on the details page.
    http://www.visionsrealm.us/images/proview/ProtectedView.jpg
    http://www.visionsrealm.us/images/proview/ProtectedView2.jpg
    http://www.visionsrealm.us/images/proview/ProtectedView3.jpg
Before you ask I have saved the file from my email to a folder within my documents.  So not only was it removed from email, to prevent the issue of opening in protected view because it was from Outlook.  But I also made sure that it was in a trusted
    location.
Now tell me, if it is COMPLETELY turned off, why is my file being BLOCKED?
Like my question said before, where else do I need to go to COMPLETELY disable protected view.

  • Completely disable SMS for my Skype online number....

I don't want to pay for SMS messages when people should be emailing me anyway. How can I completely disable SMS for my account so that no one can send me texts? Thanks!

I too would like to disable this "feature" as I don't use it, nor want it.
Just yesterday, my Microsoft keyboard malfunctioned and sent a burst of SMS messages through Skype until it drained my account which contained the default $5.00 credit when I signed up. I don't particularly care about the $5.00, but I'm annoyed that by dumb luck the feature sent these messages to my director (various quantities of 1s) and about 45 of them. The only thing that stopped sending the messages was that my account ran out of money. Good thing that it's not configured for auto-recharge. I have another Skype account with money in it and to prevent a similar occurrence in that account, I'm now going to dump the credit by texting myself. In texting myself because my cell phone has unlimited texting it at least will not cost me more money.
Depending on whether or not he has a text messaging plan on his phone this could create a nice little charge.
We need to have the ability to block SMS messages just as we can with our mobile phones.

  • Setting geo.enabled to false does not stop websites from knowing location. Seems to be related to my proxy setting.....Any ideas on how to completely disable this?

Setting geo.enabled to false does not stop websites from knowing location. It changes based off of what proxy I am using. Is there a way to completely disable this?

I use Comcast in the Chicago area market and have a problem with the "Opt Out" stopping about once a year or so. It appears as being enabled at the Comcast Opt Out page, but the unresolved addresses are still going to the DNS "domain helper" service.
What works for me is to turn off the opt out preference, log off from that Comcast account, and close Firefox. When I restart Firefox, log in to Comcast, and then set the pref to "opt out" again - it works as intended and doesn't cause me a problem until it happens like 10 to 12 months later.
As far as why it seems to affect browsers in a different way, I have no idea. I do have Safari, Opera, and IE 8 installed, in addition to multiple versions of Firefox, but I don't use those other browsers enough to have seen a difference. I am usually opening pages from within Firefox in those other browsers to view the difference, ''or to print something that Firefox screws up in the Print Preview''.
